Great presentation! Massad Ayoob, the foremost authority on armed defense, has always preached that concealed carry permit owners are held to a higher standard of conduct. That means we don’t get drunk or high, stay out of sketchy areas we have no business in, don’t participate in road rage and walk away from insults. If you can’t behave, don’t carry.

Right on! And we should also know, as concealed carriers, that we should do EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to deescalate a situation. Our speech, body language, etc., should be more on the meek side so we can avoid ever having to draw our weapon. After 22 years in the military and three wars, I've had enough death and destruction. I hope I NEVER have to draw my gun on another human being. There is most definitely a higher standard, as well as a higher expectation from the public, for those who carry guns. It may require choosing a new set of friends and a new set of hobbies, etc. Realize the gravity of carrying a deadly weapon on your person and act and think accordingly. Stay safe.

This is a MAJOR problem in a lot of sectors in the general gun community. Lot of dudes say "I hope I never have to use my gun", but a lot of them do a ton of rambling about how they are just ready to shoot anyone for reasons that will get them sent to prison they think otherwise makes them heros.
Rude awakenings really. Like he said, dude think they're tough but prison tends to break a lot of wannabes who think prison is a justified means to an end.

8:28 "use it as a tool of last resort only when the alternative to using it is so heinous you can't live with it." I agree completely but the problem is in a situation like a mugging where you have to weigh between complying or counter attacking if you figure there is a less than 50% chance they won't hurt you if you comply. Or say you figure it's 20% (but you can't really know). You have to weigh the risk of getting killed against the risk of prison / losing the gunfight / going broke / PTSD, all in a split second. It's a tough decision.

If you're a concealed carrier, and you get mugged, the one thing you KNOW will happen is that the muggers will be armed with a real, loaded gun after they find yours AND you will be disarmed ... and they will be kind of angry that you had a gun on you.
You may feel that complying is OK before they find the gun, but the percentages change after they find your gun.

About a hundred years ago, when I first started to shoot, my father, who taught me military style, told me the most important thing about owning a gun, "Once you pull the trigger, you cannot take it back" more over, "What ever you do, you will have to live with the fact that you took a persons life away from him, a parent away from a child, a child away from a parent, etc". These things you will live with for the rest of your life. So if you have to pull your weapon and discharge it, think about these things. If justified and no other recourse then that is one thing, but be sure there were no other courses you could have taken, at least given the circumstances at the moment and a moment may be all you have, but arm chair quarterbacks will be making the judgment.
Very good lesson taught here. Thank you for sharing.

And heres why: Your presentation is current, fast moving comprehensive FOR THE CCW guy. Most of the outstanding lectures I’ve had on this material were aimed at police or military; and not me. Also I guess I’m a visual learner, and “OUR” use of video tapes has elevated “OUR” discussion to a more. in depth analysis. I’ve never had that before. (and I’ve spent quite a few hours listening to presentations on these topics). I feel better educated now (after viewing your content) Than I ever did after all the classroom hours I’ve had over the decades. Where I’ve spent valuable hours and substantial $$$ to attend. As a legal CCW carrier in Florida for over 20 years, I can honestly say the only good that is coming out of all these shootings, is I will definitely pull the gun first to stop the threat, not just pull and shoot. If it stops the threat, everyone goes home...If the threat continues and I am in fear for the life of myself or my family then it gets taken to the next level. I heard a quote that has stuck with me..."I would rather be judged by 12, then carried by 6". If I could tell anyone who wants to carry concealed...Please look up and understand "IMMINENT DANGER".

Call me what you want but I DON'T want un-knowledgeable "constitution carry" principles and laws to prevail. People who carry need to know the law and be at least minimally competent with their firearms. Same for automobiles. Just common sense.

Ive been on a few juries and sometimes some of the people wind up not caring what the result is if the day is late... they will throw in with whatever the consensus is merely to get home by dinner. A good scenario to do is when /when not to shoot someone on the back. Idk why but going into my ccw class this question was on my mind.
It feels horrible and cheap. As fate would hsve it my turn on the simulator had this exact scenario. In this scenario I am at the front desk . An employee gets into a heated fight with the boss, gets fired. He exists the building and returns with his pistol, points it at me then proceeds to walk down the hall towards the bosses office. As he begins to enter the office he raises his pistol and I let 3 go , all 3 to the back of his head. Again, even in this simulation it felt weird, dirty and wrong taking someone out in the back.. My instructor restarted this scenario to let it play out w/out intervention so we can discuss with the class. The aggressor/fired employee does the boss, and goes room to room doing 4 more people .
I was absolutely shocked to hear my instructor say that , at least in his classes (been doing it for 20 years) most people refused to shoot the employee because they didnt want to shoot him in the back (which is exactly what this scenario was meant to teach us, sometimes you have to , if you dont lotsa lives are lost.

Unfortunately a system of laws meant to prevent criminals from claiming "self defense" has gone bad to the point that it prevents honest citizens from defending their lives, imposing upon them an unreasonable amount of requirements to fullfill for it to be "self defense", all in a split second, and an even more unreasonable amount of consequences.
Roman law said "adgreditus non habet staderam in manu", "he who gets attacked does not have scales in his hand" meaning that the defender is not required to accurately weigh the amount of force he uses: the consequences of an unjust aggression are on the head of the aggressor, dire as they may be.
We should go back to that.
Now, before someone goes "Oh, and how would you consider the clip where...", I say it again: the DEFENDER. If you instigate an attack, you are not the defender.

Luckily there was enough people that saw what was happening and took action and tackled his ass and started providing aid. Responding LE said they wished more people carried a weapon cause the victim or by stander could of legally dropped the attacker. Use of force is legal to prevent serious injury or death to yourself or others. The wacko said him and his mom were "treated like dogs" by whom we dont know. His criteria to attack was " a male with no wife and children with him that appeared to be able to hold their own in a attack" im 6 foot 2 ,300 pounds 40 inch waist and i was planning on going to that farm store but needed to stop at auto zone. Ok I’m a lil confused about the punching example, like are you talking about someone just randomly punching you once then backing off & that’s it or what? Cuz even if they don’t have a gun on them they still assaulted you plus what if they don’t stop & start hitting you again as soon as you get back up, like how many times do you gotta get hit before it becomes justifiable to draw your weapon? I mean if someone’s trying to beat the shit outa you I feel like it should be justifiable to shoot them in that situation, I mean they already assaulted you so why would/should you assume that they’d only hit you once & then they’d just stop, unless they literally back off or walk away after sucker punching you for whatever reason,
or what if they sucker punch you once & then they back up a lil bit & square up like they’re about to fight you, in that situation would drawing your weapon be justified? & just to be clear I’m only talking about drawing your gun to scare & make them back off, I’m not saying draw it to just start shooting

& yee fighting back could work sometimes depending on who’s involved & if you know how to fight, but what could you do if the attacker is some huge roided out person who’s like 3~4x your size? Like if the victim is a very slender/petite woman/man who got punched by some jacked 300 pound jackass, Cuz if that’s the case unless they’re a professional trained fighter I don’t see that ending well either,
& sure running away can be a good option if they don’t just end up chasing you down, but people who live in states with stand your ground laws wouldn’t have to run away from the threat, so in states that have those laws when would you be able to draw your weapon, like after they hit you the first time (assuming they don’t just run away immediately afterwards), Or would you have to wait until they seemed like they were going to attack you again?

As you said in an earlier video, and I believe is the case here in Florida, you cannot use deadly force for self defense if you are the instigator. Drejka initiated the confrontation, but with the girlfriend. Question; would Drejka have been able to successfully claim self defense if he'd shot McGlockton immediately after falling to the ground, even though he was the initial instigator? Or would this be considered a separate incident?

It’s Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton not Bill Paxton. Also in Texas if you’re cleared in a self-defensive use of deadly force you are cannot be held liable in civil court monetarily. One more thing, if you are a parent picking your chid up at your ex-wife or ex-husband you do not have a right to trespass on private property. What you do have is the law on your side with your divorce decree and custody order signed by a judge. You leave the property and call the police and wait. Texas has very favorable private property laws for property owners. Take yourself off the property and wait. If he had went to his pickup on the street (public property) and waited he’d be alive and his ex-wife would be held accountable for violating a court order.

Punches can kill, more often than people believe. Fists are blunt force trauma. George Zimmerman. As a prohibited possessor he's going to get in trouble though. It will likely depend on the attacker (a 10 year old kid punches you vs a 210lbs tattooed ahole), if the attack is continuing (you can't shoot a guy who sucker punches you and runs away no matter how much he may deserve it for being a b!tch) and the political sympathies of the DA and Sherriff.

I would have called it a confrontation not a pursuit and just like in the Brown case who was charging at the officer he was charging at the old guy with the rifle and grabbed it.
