  • This episode shows how to install Cap-A-Tread stair covers like a pro. Even though this may be your first attempt at this project, my measuring, cutting, and installing techniques in this video will show you how to achieve similar professional results as mine on your first attempt as well.

    How much should the bullnose of my treads stick out for the cap-a-tread to fit right? I only have about 3/8ths protruding past my riser.

      Tex8814,
      Recommend that the nose of your treads fill as much of the Cap-A-Tread as possible. It would not be a good thing if you put a huge amount of work into installing your CAT's and have them break off over the years. Recommend that you email me a couple of pictures at abacon73@aol.com. It would be good if we could exchange phone numbers and discuss this.

    Do you belive there is any difference between the 60 and 40 tooth blades for the Cap A Treads?

    • @LetsFixItRight
      @LetsFixItRight  8 месяцев назад +1

      Linkkk68,
      I used a 40 tooth blade, which worked well. But, a 60 will give you an even better cut.

      @@LetsFixItRight I ended up using a 60 as well. Worked out great!! I used a Metabo as well for some finishing touches on the edges cause i suck with a table saw! Thanks for the great video!

      Kasey,
      As I mentioned in the video, I bought my Cap-A-Tread covers and risers at Floor and Décor 2 years ago. However, after looking at their current Web Page, this was the closest that I could find:
      www.flooranddecor.com/stair-parts/5140-cap-renewal-retread---47in.-100999697.html
      Home Depot and Lowe's also have some that look fairly close at these links:
      www.homedepot.com/p/Cap-A-Tread-Waveford-Gray-Oak-Stair-Tread-Reversible-Riser-Kit-47-in-L-x-12-1-8-in-W-x-2-3-16-in-T-for-Stairs-1-1-8-to-1-3-4-T-01CA71475/322686018
      www.lowes.com/pd/Zamma-Taupe-Grey-Oak-12-125-in-x-47-in-Type-2-Stair-Tread-and-Reversible-Riser-Kit/5014229195
      After looking at these, the Lowe’s looks closest to mine. However, if you get an opportunity, I recommend that you shop in one of these 3 stores to see exactly what you are buying.

    Can I use a jig saw? It’s all I’ve got besides hand saws. 🪚

    • @LetsFixItRight
      @LetsFixItRight  Год назад +1

      Stephanie,
      I recommend against using a jig saw. It will be difficult to cut a straight line and you will not be able to cut the circular front edge of a Cap-A-Tread plank with a jig saw.
      Recommend that you purchase a 10-inch saber saw similar to this saw featured on Amazon:
      amzn.to/3VqI6Xa
      In addition, I would use one of these Diablo Saw Blades for fine and accurate cuts:
      10 in. x 60-Tooth Fine Finish Circular Saw Blade: amzn.to/3SCUC4L
      10 in. x 40-Tooth General Purpose Circular Saw Blade: amzn.to/3BMnsc2
      I also recommend that you practice with the saw on scrap wood prior to cutting your expensive Cap-A-Tread planks.
      Lastly, I appreciate your interest in my channel. I retired recently and have plans for another 200 to 300 great videos.

      @@LetsFixItRight thanks for taking time to respond. As a single mom I can’t afford a table saw & wouldn’t know how to use one anyway. I’ll have to figure something else out for the cat damaged carpeted stairs.

      I’ve seen many videos online of people starting with the riser before the tread. Why did you start with the tread? Is there any benefit I am going to install and not sure which one to start off with?
