- Meet Lupe, a single mom who lives in a beautifully imperfect & permitted tiny house on foundation with her 9-year-old son Apollo. She built it mostly by herself over 4 years with help from loved ones. Originally, Lupe wanted to live in a yurt, but due to city rules, she pivoted to a building code-compliant tiny home. It cost $30k due to her resourcefulness and was built on family land on a rent-to-own basis (another $30k)--soon to be paid off! Her beloved tiny yurt is next door. It's used as a flex room for hanging out, working out, making art & a guest room. When Apollo becomes a teenager, he has the option to use it as a bedroom. Becoming a first-time homeowner means a lot to Lupe after experiencing poverty as a kid. She's made her 1st-gen American immigrant mother very proud!

@@rhodyreport8949 what’s that in your opinion? We love to see how resourceful folks like Lupe create affordable, safe, simple, functional & comfortable homes 🏡 😊
@@rhodyreport8949 If so, it gives me hope. This woman has put a really nice life and home together for her son and herself. I'm impressed!
Way to go!
Awesome👏🏼
I just absolutely admire this young woman and her son, for everything they have done to make a home for themselves! Cudos to you both! I do hope you get this message, as you both are so awesome. You are a brave, brave and resourceful woman!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I agree
It isn't her son's job to make a home. Its cool she built a tiny house, but in general I think we need to stop glorofying single parents, unless their spouce died.
@@Marie_AdamsWOW! How do you propose to stop single family homes? I don't see this as glorifying single families, as much as a testament to her and what she accomplished under the circumstances. Regardless, single or not, she came out of poverty to create this beautiful home for her and her son. Try walking a mile in someone else's shoes.
@@Marie_AdamsBut,,, you don't make the rules. I suppose you have your own reasons for your feelings and have a right to them. We all have the same right.
A few generations ago, my home province had the greatest percentage of owner built homes in the country. Helping people build their own homes should be a priority of municipal governments as a strategy to prevent homelessness. This amazing woman proves it's possible to create a home and not end up in crushing debt. Well done!
Such a great idea for governments to help and even provide incentives to help folks build their own homes!
❤gives hope
Excellent point! Humans have been building their own homes for millenia. We have been separated from that by making it next to impossible and illegal to build ourselves, which of course leads to homelessness! Housing should be a human right, not a commodity. I understand the need for building codes but it is far past time that the limits municipalities have set on home size are readjusted. I will not go into life-long, soul-crushing debt for something I can build myself for $30K.
Our county has passed a code that no one can live in a camper, shed or structure less than 1500 square feet. People just can’t afford to buy/build 😢
@@firegirl441fromga6That's terrible! Where do you live?
What a strong courageous young mom! What an inspiration, especially to her son. Not only is she trying hard to make a life for herself and her young son currently, she is also forward looking. You can hear it in her words. Amazing!!
Lupe! You blew my mind! No wonder you are your son's hero! Wow! You're a self-taught and accomplished home builder! Your home is so cozy, bright and beautiful! I love your bedrooms. Your house is so roomy for a 500 sq ft home. The yurt is so cute! I'm so privileged to have a tour of your home and hear of your family's awesome journey.❤
Lupe, you get a ⭐️ in life. You are amazing!
A yurt looks so spacious. You explained about your journey to accomplish this. I am glad Apollo's father helped, too. He can see that his Mother meets challenges and finishes things to make the dream home come true. I hope he still close with his Dad. Pets are fun too, I loved the under the bed with his cat!!
🙌💕☺️
I know, I wished they showed the cat!
This made me cry happiness. Am single mom in California Bay Area she did it by her self. Give me more motivation continue strong build something tiny house.
So happy to hear it! Best wishes to you on your homeownership journey! 💕
Oh my gosh, that tile shower is such a beautiful work of art. So gorgeous. ❤ Great job!!!
I completely agree!! And I love the shower curtain as well. 😂
Yeah, I love that shower tile. So pretty! 🚿
Her shower tile is awesome!! I love that she did this; saw it through to the end! Very inspiring!!
This was such a gorgeous segment. This tiny house exuded not only charm and wonderful practicality, but courage, love and incredible resilience. You could see all the wonderful mother love ideas she brought in to the living space for her son and herself. This was truly one of your best episodes. What a beautiful family and such promise she is giving her son. Thank you!!
Beautifully expressed! 🙌 Lupe is an amazing woman! 💗
Bravo for being such a strong and family centered mom, taking ultimate advantage of your resources in a manner that reflects your needs and integrity. Your son obviously sees and respects that, and the valuable skills you're teaching him. I especially like that you put your tiny house on a foundation. 🌄🙏👍
Your son is so fortunate to have such a talented mom .. and dad!
Congratulations for overcoming your fears! You’ve taught your son so many wonderful lessons and memories ❤ What an amazing Mom.
It's encouraging that she was able to build a small home on a foundation. Maybe things are changing! Lovely how creativity is evident throughout.

So happy to share Lupe’s inspirational story & home. 💗 We had a blast filming with her & Apollo!
Amazingly built!! I can only congratulate you for building this tiny house. Great acomplishment. Enjoy it and have a beautiful life with your precious son!!😊
You are woman! Awesome job
Wow what a stunning tiny house and yurt they have...I really love the two bedroom's upstairs that you don't have to bend in weird way's to make the bed...I'm not a loft fan because most lofts you need to crawl into...thank you for sharing 💜🇦🇺
We hear you on the loft! Making the bed was maybe the worst part of living in our tiny house 😅
The house and the yurt are great, but what really impressed me the most was this woman's determination, and also the love and support she received from family and friends. This is a house filled with love, and it shows.
It really does! So full of love!
Congratulations Lupe and Apollo! Apollo you did a great job in the video! Awesome home!
This is a great portrait! Thank you for sharing Lupe’s story. She did a fantastic job! And, she's an inspiration to anyone who thinks they can't do something like this on their own.
Most welcome! She is a real role model for folks of all ages ❤️
So impressed that she was able to meet with the city and work out building a tiny home! This has been my dream for 15 years, when I took a weekend seminar with the founder of the Tiny Home Movement - Jay Shafer. Looking at buying land now while I build out a van. So very impressive, Lupe, well done!!
Yes! You can do it too! We'd love to see your van and future tiny! If you're interested reach out to us! tinyhouseexpedition.com/get-featured/
I can see how proud your son is of you!! 🥹
Wow this woman is amazing! I think Apollo hit the mommy lottery. I absolutely love this place I love the layout so much what a wonderful property.
Yes Young Lady woman can do anything and everything. Running my furniture restoration and custom furniture shop I tried to get a female apprentice for one reason; Woman have a better attention to detail then men do! You can be as proud of yourself as your wonderful son is! Great job, Great house and terrific home.
You are in my prayers
Hoka Hey
Very inspiring. Beautiful 🏡 and family. Best wishes
It sounds like your mother was both a wonderful mentor and example for you to follow, and you will be a wonderful mentor and example for your son! Great job on the house, AND the yurt!!
I loved her home and yurt. That makes sense for the future. But, I really appreciate her sharing that people need to explore the less perfect but hand built home. I think it would help so many people starting out. What a wonderful mom!
💯🙌
Such a lovely home born out of necessity. Functional , warm and cozy , with a history built in from the start . Many happy dreams , and memories to you .
You did such a wonderful home for you and your son and your two fur babies. In the process of building your home you’ve taught your son anything is possible if you work hard and follow a plan. You did a beautiful job on the tile in your shower. I know your son and family is very proud of you. Great job!!!
Very nice and financially smart

Thank You for Your kind reply. 🫶🏾🤲🏾🙌🏾👏🏾😻.
So much here to admire! Pushing past her fears, taking on so much that is new and unfamiliar, all the determination, and working peacefully with someone despite your differences. Lupe, you have taught Apollo and us so many things. And you are so right about not worrying about a perfect product. Quirky and livable is a much better goal. You rock!
Absolutely!!
I've become obsessed with tiny houses 🤩🤩🤩
Amazing woman and loving mom.
Wow! What a great story this family has. Lupe has done an amazing job; from figuring out how to get the permits approved, to building a home for her family. I love 💕 the tile job in the shower; it’s absolutely beautiful. I found myself smiling the whole time I was watching this video. Thanks for showcasing their story.
Our pleasure! She really is amazing. No small task to do all that while working full-time and raising a little one. 🤯🤩❤️
U can do anything if u put ur mind to it. Great story
Really loved this one! What a great compassionate and strong soul she is.
You should be proud of yourself many blessings 🙏
She can be super proud of herself. She created a beautiful, safe space for herself and her son and she owns it!
I love your creative ingenuity! So proud of you and your courage! Bravo
Way to go mom. You have everything to be proud of!
Much respect to Lupe!! She did a great job building her home, while raising a small child. 👏 👏 The house is so warm and welcoming. The tiling in the shower is stunning! I love all the plants. Well well done!👍👍
Wonderful project, congratulations. Apollo is adorable.
This lady is a superhero!!
💯😄
What a beautiful home. Not only are you a phenomenal role model for your son, but for me and so many others! Wow oh wow. Oregon is so stunningly beautiful. Thank you for sharing your and your son and pets' home.😊
It is perfect 😊
This is Gonna b so Good THE🔥🔥🔥👍n Happy Friday😀….
Happy Friday! Hope you enjoy the video!!
Congratulations on your beautiful home .
Thanks so much for sharing such an inspirational video with us and it is important that we be a little more self-reliant. We can have everything maybe in a smaller version but we can have it. Why do we need 3000 square-foot house. There’s just the two of you. You have a beautiful, cozy home that you have put all your love and inspiration into. It turned out wonderful and your son is so proud of you. The best part of it all you are not swimming in debt. You could enjoy your life. You can enjoy your son. You don’t need to work three jobs. It’s important that we see what’s important in our lives and seeing our children grow up is watch important
So true! Thanks for watching!
She said she made the doorway tall because her son was going to grow to be tall. I couldn’t help laughing at that and laughed remembering I thought the same. . I’m 5’6”, my dad was 6’3” and my husband is 6’7”, his parents were both really tall. I am a mom to 3 sons. All done growing and all 3 are on the short side (they are all around 5’8”). Lol. Genetics are strange. Haha.
😂 the genetic lottery!
This is a beautiful home. You did a great job building this home for you& your son. Very cool tile work in shower.☮👍🎃🌻
Amazing strong young woman and a well designed home. I love her message at the end. ❤
Absolutely! Don’t the let the perfect by the enemy of the good 😁👌
Amazing accomplishment! Beautiful home that you have built for your son and yourself. So nice to see a tiny home built by someone who it makes a huge difference to. So many that are shown are good but a lot of the time is on their rich parent's land.
You are a true inspiration to other women, you have shown your son that anything is possible with determination and perseverance. You rock sister. I too am from Los Angeles, and had a single who taught us we could be anything we wanted and do anything we wanted to do. 👍👍♥️
Quirky is GOOD! I love her quirky love-built home!
Apollo, your mom is amazing!
Apollo is so lucky to have such a naming role model and mother! I’ll bet he’s going to vote for the yurt when he’s ready! What a cool teen hangout.
You are amazing! Congratulations.
The shower is a work of art, as is the rest of the house! Her home has such a warm, cozy energy & is as practical as it is beautiful! Well done, mom! Blessings to you, Apollo & your furbabies🙏
Great job, Lupe! The lot looks so sweet and cozy with both tiny house and yurt! And the yurt really does create a more flexible living arrangement. Well done for taking it on and getting it done at a great price. This is proof that anybody can do it - it just takes time and willingness, and a bit of money, and hopefully friends to help out!
Very well done awesome job 🇨🇦🛠️🛠️🛠️
Her son is adorable and seems so proud of his home that Mom built.
It's impressive when a couple builds a house...doing it alone is next level & huge props to her. I could only try to imagine how empowering that is. It's even cooler how they disciplined themselves during the build. I was sorry to hear the relationship didn't make it but it's a beautiful home with so much thought and personality. It's inspiring. I watch videos daily so I can learn for my future tiny home. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. 💜🪬☄️
Thanks for watching! Good luck with your future tiny! It is super empowering, for sure.
So proud of you!
What a wonderful Mum - has done a great job looking after her son and building a house - well done, beautiful property and love that Yurt :)
WOW! We're neighbors. I'm in Roseburg too. I've been wondering if building a tiny house in Roseburg would even be possible. Coming across your video makes me happy, and very hopeful. You did an amazing job on your place! Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for watching! Glad you were inspired! So cool that you all are neighbors.
Just incredible! Your home is perfect and I cannot imagine ever being able to build an entire home with a foundation by myself. Major respect for this woman.
I truly do believe Apollo's mom CAN do anything. What a triumph! Thank you for sharing your tiny castle. You're a great innovator and should be super proud of yourself!
A very nice homey home. Well planed and comfy.
💯😊
Such an amazing and strong young woman and the house is so beautiful 😍. I really love that she has built the entire upstairs to be open and there are no balconies. Fantastic job Lupe ❤
Lupe you are a real inspiration. You’ve made a beautiful home for you and your son that you’ll enjoy for many years. It takes real gumption to build something with little means or building experience. Congratulations!
Apollo must be so proud of his mom.
Impressive! I love how well this home was designed. This woman has made this work well!
Such a beautiful young lady...she built her and her sin a beautiful home.
God Bless
The only thing I would change is in the bathroom... I would stack the washer and dryer where the dryer currently is and put the toilet next to the window under the water heater and maybe build a little cabinet/shelf thing with a door to cover the water heater. Then I would put the sink, vanity, and medicine cabinet along the wall, where the toilet was. Also, I'd probably add either a tall and thin shelving unit or cabinet, in the corner where the sink was for extra storage to put toiletries, towels and linens.
Sounds like you have a solid design plan for your future tiny!
Your shower is worth ... ignoring any possible faults.❤️🏠🔆
She made a work of art in the shower! 😍
I adore your Yurt. I've always wanted to live in one. Thanks for the inspiration 🙏
Incredible woman. I love what has been done. She fit everything needed into that space and it’s so cozy. Love the plants.
Lupe you are amazing. Wow! Your mom is correct, " There is nothing you cannot do".
You are amazing!! So proud of you. You inspire me.
Go Girl! A a solo momma inspired by tiny homes, it's so nice to see you do this and with the addition of the yurt, gives flexibility and options. So happy for you and your son!!!!
Amazing she should be so proud of all the hard work she has done
You and your doggies together, make a lovely little family!
Your building a beautiful life with your son. Your journey with him will be with him forever.
There's so many wonderful things I want to say about this young lady, but I'll keep it short and just say "You are an AMAZING mom and person". I'm so happy for you and your son and I wish you both nothing but happiness in life. Once people began to realize "we" don't need huge house to make us happy. Having a huge house is why families can't survive on 1 income, why families are separated (too much space) and why families are in so much debt. Let's get back to the basics and live the true American Dream. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I hope to do something similar in the future, but a small house (400 sq ft.) and a 200 sq ft. shed as my office and crafting space. I loved everything about this tour!
Best wishes with your plans! 💕
Wow, how inspiring. Awesome lady, awesome build, awesome attitude. Gold stars all round 😁
oh and awesome Mom ❤
She has such a beautiful spirit she's built a beautiful home for her son and herself.
She's very inspiring and seems like such a good mother. He's so lucky.👏🏼 ✨️ ❤️
This house is beautiful, I love it!! It's very homely, welcoming and the plants add pops of colour. The tiles in the shower are incredible too. Such an amazing result for the money spent. What a beautiful family, Lupe should be so proud 😊 ❤
Beautiful home and yurt, Such a loving mother and son, Blessings,
Im so impressed with these homes and what Mom has done . Proud of you, Mom, for what you’ve accomplished! I don’t know if personally, I would want to take on the challenge of electrical & plumbing, but I absolutely admire you for doing that! And Apollo is adorable!!! Such a well behaved boy with so much love and respect for mom!😍😍❤️❤️
Wow! This is such a lovely video. Mother and son living in a cute’ quirky and very functional home, built with her own hands. The yurt is a great additional space for additional chill out, recreation space and guests.
It's one of your best homes/interviews ever!😊
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lupe, you are my new she hero !!! That you could build an amazing quality tiny home without prior experience, and for $30,000 isINCREDIBLE!!! You give so many hope that people can have a home without going into outrageous debt. God bless you and your son for sharing your beautiful story.
I love your tiny home and yurt! I've fantasized something like that over the years but unfortunately where I live in Seattle, WA the zoning prevents it. You did a beautiful job with the overall design, colors, and layout of your tiny home. I love the tile work in the shower and the carpentry of the interior. Your yurt is a wonderful auxiliary bedroom-entertainment-exercise room too. It's a great place for you, your son, and dog to enjoy. Jenny
Amazing! Good for you and all your abilities to build the home you want for you and your son ♥️
