It’s proven that social media increases depression and loneliness. Just live your life and stop worrying about others to compare yourself, you will never be happy this way.
Thank god I grew up riding bicycles with my friends, playing outdoor games at night, and not getting a phone until my junior year. Parents need to emphasize this balance more. It’s crucial. So unhealthy to grow up in the age of social media
An0nym0us Pers0n what I’m saying is that the very few who still do this are lifestyle gurus and Instagram “models” but other than that I’ve been noticing more honesty about not being perfect and more talks about mental health, sometimes in the form of a self deprecating joke but I like it, it’s much more relatable and honest.
yeah but still there’s a significant different between your mindset when on social media vs not on it. i got of socials like a few months ago and i feel so much better. it sounds stupid but social media is truly a waste of time
I totally agree ! I don't have those apps either, except for this one & when I tell them they get shocked and ask me how I survive without any... simple I live a real life, dot pretend to please anyone and once in while with a sweet, hot coffee while I have a conversation with some I care !!
I've stopped using social media back in 2012 at age 23, I never share my life, kids, husband or my house anywhere. I still don't have social media accounts. Quiting social media is easier than quiting smoking.
I agree. As they say, what people don’t know, they can’t destroy. Just how many ‘perfect’ couples and lives on screen are suffering greatly behind the scenes. They portray unrealistic standards just to please their viewers. 😞
My husband and I went out for breakfast and we noticed that everyone around us were on their phones. Father with his young son, mom & dad and teen son, young couple with their toddler who was on a tablet. I felt so sad for the kids. What a perfect opportunity for families to talk and connect. We didn't give our son a cell phone until he entered high school. We don't allow phones at meal times or when we're out at restaurants. It's just gotten so out of hand. It's no longer for convenience, it's an obsession, an addiction.
How did you get your son to not be bitter about not giving him cell phones until high school and all the rules? If i ever have a kid I want to do the same thing, but Ive seen my relatives' kids be unbelievable spiteful against their parents because of this.
Not letting your kid use the phone at the table is an error. You don't need to put rules, you need to make him appreciate the time spent connecting. I never had any rules about phones, and still every time I sit at the table with my family or friends I am the only one wanting to talk face to face, socialice and stop using the phones. What you are doing to your son is useless.
@@mochi8632, THAT is your problem. "Never had rules." When dinner is served in my house cellphones are not allowed at the table. Do so and YOU and your PHONE may be going out the door. You will get only one warning.
@@donotneed2250 Why tho? Also, you don't have any power over me so you can't tell me what to do. But if you do this to a kid without even an explanation then you are abusing them. You are making them fear you, they will not value any time spent with you because you are creating an abusive relationship. This will only make them more rebellious and hope to not see you ever.
@@mochi8632, is not child abuse. House rule and the same thing goes for adults.🤷🏼♂️ If you find that you have issues with my house rules then don't visit. Simple. If I take it from you I will toss it out on the grass the first time. Next time it hits the walkway.
True. People need to stop being so insecure nowadays to the point that they have to share fake photos and videos on social media. It's just weird how people think their self-worth and self-esteem is gained through posting those fake photos and videos.
I once dated a girl who was always on Instagram. It wasn't this bad but she was literally always scrolling thru Instagram. I had to explain to her that it's rude to be on her phone when we're eating together or when I'm trying to have a conversation with her but she still didn't get it. Unfortunately that wasn't nearly the worst of her problems but now I know that being on social media all the time is a red flag
I was at my in-laws for Thanksgiving and my Sister-in-Law would not let anyone eat until she got THE perfect picture of the dinner table all set up. Kids are screaming, everyone is hangry, and she is just snapping away... it was pure chaos. She ruined Thanksgiving dinner... But her post made it seem like everything was wonderful and peaceful. Completely disconnected from reality...
Sad this is common everywhere. I was at this tourist spot few days ago and it was a beautiful sun View that day and people are busy taking selfies and i was enjoying the view laughing at them in my mind.
Can you really blame her for making memories but yeah it's affecting others, I usually take pictures or videos but I don't really post them Just keeping them in the hard drive who knows if you get old at some point and see the nostalgia
Instagram started to teach me to be envious.. I come from a very humble family where am taught to appreciate every little thing that comes my way.. Social media made feel the exact opposite. Deleting my social media accounts has been the most wonderful thing I have ever done! My life is less stressful!!
@Stephanie Maria lol. Praise and honor received for an achievement. You deserve that! 3 years free from social media ain't a joke at all. Once again, kudos to you!🎉👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
My ex recently dumped me, I understand I messed up by being insecure but GOSH DANG boy even two weeks after she dumped me she posted herself out with new people and she seems so “happy.” I have personally been staying silent on my socials becsuse I feel no need to fake anything, but she is posting waaaay to much with people she literally just met; they seem so happy and it honestly hurts me, because it made me believe I was just replaceable. This video has certainly helped me come back to reality.
She's faking it. It would be different if she rewired and actually spoke to those people again, made friends, or posted something new. And in moderation. I too don't feel that urge anymore. Locked myself from facebook around September end, and it only did good.
@@archanakumaridasgupta5536 she may not be faking it. If she dumped him there’s the possibility she was eager to be single and is happy now. If he was The Who dumped her and now she’s doing the most with her posts then it would be likely she’s faking. It’s true that most things on social media is exaggerated, some things are outright fake, but every on social media is not fake. I think some people like to believe so as a cope mechanism.
@@jhonvvick1289 But almost everybody does. I'm just saying, we can't argue with the fact that a lot of people knows social media and uses it a lot, but for the wrong purpose, which is one of the problematic things nowadays.
I'm on the edge of quitting social media. The fakeness we portray and see from others on daily basis is driving us crazy. I do even catch myself doing it occasionally I'm not sure if it's really a gap within us that we're trying to fill or in my case it was kinda a rivarly type of thing.
I think because social media is like something we own. Like our personal space. Like there are no rules but our own. We can control it on the way we want it. When we want and where we want it. Anything that we cannot achieve instantly or express from a normal non social media relationship/life, we can put or say in social media. Social media is instant gratification that it can be addicting. And while being addicted, what's true and what is make believe can be mixed. That's when we can go to extremes bcos it's is gratifying. I want to explain my opinion more but i just have little hard time elaborating it. I dont use my FB anymore. Twitter is useless to me. I visit my instagram once in a while. You Tube is what i enjoy. Hehe..
you should definitely do it if you just want to live your life. i left all social medias because everyone only cares about what others think and its so depressing.
People on social media feel the need to post every aspect of their lives. Instead of enjoying the moment they would rather take a picture of it and show everyone else that they're 'enjoying' it. I was once like this
Norin Begum tbh the only social media i “post” on is snapchat and i only send pictures like black background with the hour or sometimes some text lol. i don’t like posting my life on social media, and the only reason i do it on snapchat is because of the snapstreaks i started long ago
I'm on social media but I barely use it to post pics, i use it for communication, like i found the instagrams of people I knew a long time ago and I'd lost their phone number
I Go to Lot of Partys bc my Boyfriend is a DJ and Most of the time i enjoy the time with the other people on the parties or Dancing Don't Using my Phone but i Take Like 3-5 Pictures and Vids.I Like to Share my memories but i just want to feel it too,Like tf Being always on the Phone when other Friends are around you? how unrespectful
Well, you didn't completely quit social media since you're obviously using RUclips currently. I strongly believe what you meant to indicate is that you now currently use the internet much more sagaciously wasting less precious time such as receiving an autodidactic education.

This video was the reason why I deleted my Snapchat, instagram, Twitter, and tik tok accounts. I’m only 18, but I’ve never felt happier. Highly recommend this to anyone, no matter your age. I’m never going back
I deleted Twitter, facebook, Instagram. Never used TikTok. Only kept WhatsApp which I later muted 95% of the statuses . My life has never been happier😁
I deleted Facebook, snapchat like 4 years ago, never used instagram (literally I dont know how it looks like). The only thing I use in Internet is RUclips and Google. Im 24 now.
Today is my birthday. I don't post photos on any social network this is my life a starting point that's a big message for me and thank you very much. Enjoy yourself not showing other’s people.
So true. I know some people can function fine with social media but I am definitely not one of those people. I tried so hard to stop comparing myself to others and seeking validation in likes/comments/messages/retweets/etc. but I'd fail every time. Life without social media is pretty isolating and you quickly realize who your real friends are and who you want to always stay in touch with.
I deleted my facebook account around three years ago. I NEVER want to go back to social media. My husband and I are actually talking about unplugging from mainstream tech and switching to flip phones for awhile to see the impact it can have on our mental health and culture in our home. I pray we succeed in that decision. 💛
the 2 worst people i met in my travels were 2 Europeans with no FB accounts. Even the coolest people have an account. They just never used it though. They dont post anything... but they on bday, you can at least get a greeting. So FB is not so bad. Just dont add friends and family.
I hope you never read this because you're too busy living your life instead of wasting it watching other people. I think I might just give it up too. ❤

For the last girl, with the boyfriend? I feel like social media posts like that are a huge reason why people are surprised when they break up; from the outside it all seems perfect :(
Yes I was that girl.. looks so good but in reality just fights.. and ppl on u like why did u break up with so and so.. you guys were so cute together ?!?!?
I stopped posting on Instagram before I saw this video, I felt like people don't like your pictures because they really do like them but because they want you to hit the like button when they post a picture. They see your picture hate, judge and criticize you then they hit the like button. It's so misleading and fake.
I'm a french teenager, and we studied this video in english class. The name of the lesson was ''performing in social networks'' . We spoke about it and I think it's a very good thing to have this prevention level at school. :)
they see others' photos (which are fake) but they're convinced that other people are having better lives than them (since everyone in their pics are perceived as perfect and nothing else) so they decide to do the same to make themselves feel better... it's sad how none of their posts are genuine
Talk about a depressing reality, Who remembers chilling with a group of friends who weren’t looking at their phone screen every 3 mins? (Sigh) 2007 Good ol days
Definitely. And since it’s now monetized, you’re paid to show the best or be quirky or create a brand, an image. Can’t imagine growing up as a teen now where what’s real? The norm is false representation. Shopping at a store but don’t mind the content creator recording his current episode to millions and I’ll be an extra in the background cause I went out of my house. lol Nah, it’s worse.
@@-freya- according to Google, "Yes. Though you may only be familiar with RUclips as a place to watch funny videos of laughing babies and puppies, RUclips has firmly established itself as a social mediawebsite."
Same here! The only thing I use is RUclips and my podcast! I got rid of my Facebook and Instagram almost two years ago and I love not letting the world see my private life! It’s no one else’s business and I don’t feel the need to get attention like that.. I think it’s people that are extremely insecure and need attention . It’s sad and pathetic and makes me cringe seeing stuff like this- nothing real or genuine .. just all fake to try and get attention and likes etc..

@thx473 whilst I get the point you're trying to make, I unfortunately don't think using the word 'connections' will make any difference or make people become 'aware'. Facebook already uses the term 'friends', and we all know how most people don't even speak to the 'friends' that are connected to their account. For this reason, I think the word 'followers' captures the reality of what people are doing, when they connect to a person's social media account, quite accurately.
It's actually really sad...Thankfully I gave up my instagram account a couple of years ago and never looked back. Life has been so much more enjoyable!
Fernanda I still have my instagram account, but I don't spend too much time on it.The real struggle is when all your friends are screen addicted and they can't stay five minutes without thei r mobiles! And whatever they do they must post it,that's so hateful
RUclips isnt social media, it's a sheep in wolf's clothing, it's a predator ready to pounce, it's a lowlife thief that steals your sanity, grammer, and intelligence away from you..... *And I'm one of the people addicted to it.*
I deactivated my instagram and my facebook a week ago, you realize how addicted you were to these social networks when you don't use them and you feel abstinence, like a drug.
Me too! I'm one month off of instagram and I couldn't believe the amount of times I automatically unlocked my phone and went searching for the app icon that first week...
social media ---> egocentricity and narcissism ---> misery People are NOT socializing in social media, they are literally competing AGAINST each other and constantly seeking more and more attention from others. We are not supposed to compete against each other, but to help and give love to each other. If you really want to find your self-respect and your happiness, start spreading sincere kindness and love to this world every single day. "Strong people don't put others down. They lift them up".
I deleted my Instagram and refused to make a Snapchat account. I just can't stand how people are faking their lives and proving that they are always "busy". I just can't stand people who are unfollowing people who they used to follow just to show popularity. I just can't stand how the number of likes define a person of who she/he is. Because if people are truly happy and busy in life, they wouldn't have time to prove to others that they're happy. Personally, when I started limiting my use of social media, I have learned to live in the real world. I have learned to cherish my true friends. I have learned to make genuine memories not to brag to others, but to treasure for myself.

We've come into an age where social acceptance and validation is a much needed feeling to fill the gap of neglected parts of ourselves that weren't fulfilled. Instead of recognizing it and fixing it for ourselves, we put tape on it instead because it's too much work. We push others to help us boost our sense of self confidence and constantly put on an air of positivity hoping it will solve eveything like magic. These things have always been here and the only difference between then and now is how social media has just made the flaws within ourselves that much more apparent and obvious. Social media isn't to blame. The blame has always been onto ourselves. Social media is only a tool and not the cause. We are the cause and we should stop having others do our work for us by trying to fix our problems. Fix your own problems and you'll be glad you did. I promise! 😊
Bangel911 Your comment is the reason why my English teacher so proud of me for using this comment for english speech.Thx m8 :D .I was going to credit you but I forgot sorry :/
honestly, when i spend time with my friends everyone is barely on their phone, and at least the people i know irl don't fake their life like that on social media, so maybe the people you know are like that or, maybe, just maybe me and my friends are a bunch of freaks
lamar wahb my definition of genuine is exactly what it's defined as. "What something is said to be." like, think of the girl in this video who posted the pic of her kissing her boyfriend. she posted it when she was angry at him and seeming to have second thoughts about loving him. she should have waited to post it until she felt sure (in my opinion). im all about being real. like, i post a lot of food pics on my instagram, and if a recipe turns out worse than i thought, i will either not post the pic or i will post it with my honest thoughts about how it could have been better. i actually did that with a post about vegan sushi. i shared my failed attempt then a few days later i shared my successful attempt. So being genuine it being honest by giving your real opinion and thoughts, or by not posting at all.
I didnt even notice I was living like this until I deleted my account for a week. 🙈 Resisting the urge to make things look insta-worthy from now on and focusing on actual life. Love it!!!
What annoys me the most is when I see couples or friends at a restaurant on their phones and not talking to eachother! It just drives me mad! Or worst, I was at a MacDonald's recently where they had put iPads for kids to play whilst eating!! Just TALK!!!
Ilona Winn , yes it annoys me also!!! Couple went out with each other but are busy with their phones!! Another thing is clicking photos after photos of the food and uploading!!! It's like I'm eating the food only to show off!! *So irritating these things are!!* 😥😥😥
I am happy that i didn't use anykind of social media except youtube and messaging apps . If people really do these things it feels like like they are living in delusion .

Brett910 SAME! Like okay, sometimes there’s a social media break, I’m guilty of sometimes being on social media but I don’t stay on too long. In real life, I see people socializing, but I don’t go out much, and I’m always paying attention to my company instead of the people around me.

Heard this somewhere, "Out of 24 hours, people hardly get 24 minutes of true happiness. During this time, the person clicks 24 pictures. Finally, he shares one single best picture magnified with filters, which ruins the mental well-being of next 24 people."
Absolutely agree with you! I hope one day in social media there will be a trend for truth and sincerity and people will understand that they don't have any imperfections, we will stop belittling ourselves.
Been two years I quit social media. I don't know how better it made my life but I can definitely say that it saved me from a lot.of anxiety, panic, garbage and waste of time.
The moment I deleted my FB and Insta, it took me 2 years to get a better hold of myself. I gave more attention to my studies, stopped comparing myself to others both mentally and physically, gave up trying to be a good friend all the freaking time and not to take my family’s words to heart. All these factors used to make me feel envious of others but now I only do activities that makes me happy such as reading a nice book or drawing and feeling contented with my body and mind the way it is cause no one can be perfect. Now I feel no panic attacks, anxieties and self loathing.
"Social media is where you try to impress or please people who don't even give a f*** about you in real life, while ignoring the ones who actually are"
What people fail to understand is being a slave to social media. Get out of the house and enjoy life. The more likes you get the more addicted you'll to false recognition. The only person who needs to understand your worth is YOU.
abrajunejo The irony is that I know my daughter "likes" the posts of people she feels sorry for - so the amount of likes definitely does NOT reflect on how popular you ....it is false recognition.
abrarjunejo I need help. My sister is supposed to be studying because she going to university, and all her focus is on is social media. Also putting makeup up, checking out her stories on ig/Snapchat and it's annoying! She is never gonna go to university and I keep telling her too, she never listens.
Everything is fine in moderation. And when you really want to share something that could may be feel unique.. genuine pics of travel, having met someone great with actually a good story behind, a moment of art, ... As long it doesn't rule your life, it's fine.
I don't know about you guys but for me whenever I'm eating lunch and I want to talk to my friends they are ALWAYS on their phone! Like it's really awkward and it makes me sad that most teens nowadays are constantly glued to their phone. I'll admit I do use my phone a bit but if someone wants to talk to me or is going to say something I always put my phone down and have eye contact with the speaker.
Ashley Delights Not a personal attack, but are your conversations interesting/awkward? I have friends where it's perfectly normal to do so because sometimes we have awkward silences but we quickly pick it up, even with the help of the phone. Of course with a best friend we'd be talking our head off, but the situation depends you know. When my mom and dad meet (they're separated for a good reason) she ALWAYS is on the phone when they talk and it's a blessing. It's a great conversation avoider. People tend to apologise when they are on their phone during a conversation but they really want to continue talking. Perhaps you should reconsider the company you have? 😅
I hate so so much when i'm talking to someone and her/him is glued on their phone .... so boring. I know phone have some cool things but be with it in every moment? Most times i prefer be without some tecnology, to have a i contact, to be close to someone (not following or coment what it posts) ... real worldyou know. Probably it's 'cause i don't have a phone like a long time haha
Hmm... we sort of forget what's the point why we use social media in the first place. It's used to spread happiness and show sincere with others and not competing each other. Comparing is kind of the norm in social media quite often now :(
Sumukh I agree. But I had a Twitter for 2 months b/c my friends finally talked me into making one and I didn’t really like it. It was just a lot of apathetic posts that people would never say in real life. What really surprised me were that most retweeted/favorited tweets were made from people that were pretty “anti-social” or lacked social skills in real life
I do not like twitter - it's hard to find communication there...btw no one from people i know have twitter. Maybe 2 or 1 so I don't know whom to subscribe and whom to read and whom to talk or with whom to share my thoughts
I deleted my facebook and instagram account as soon as I finished university (almost 2 years ago). I don’t regret it at all. I was always telling my friends that people only post only the best of their lives, and often it's not even real. That could make an average person think "Why is everyone life so much more interesting and better, and how is everyone way happier than me?" But that's a trap, because we are sad and unsocial generation. Also, start tracking your time on phone and "social" apps. You'll be suprised how much time you waste.

The problem has never been Instagram or Facebook, but the human being who likes to compare with others and want to live the lives of others.
Social media just allows them to let that side of them show.
social media was engineered to exploit that aspect of human behavior. look up videos of how instagram, facebook, twitter, etc were made

Unfortunately that wasn't nearly the worst of her problems but now I know that being on social media all the time is a red flag
lol
Wow… I totally know what you mean. That’s why I decided not to force pictures on Christmas. Just spend time with family cooking and bring together

She's faking it. It would be different if she rewired and actually spoke to those people again, made friends, or posted something new. And in moderation. I too don't feel that urge anymore. Locked myself from facebook around September end, and it only did good.

Hehe..
Quit it best thing i ever did!

I promise! 😊

Frighteningly accurate.
Be honest. Be real. If something you think of posting isn't genuine, then don't post it.
Lauren Vanessa Vegan Good point but what's your definition of genuine
honestly, when i spend time with my friends everyone is barely on their phone, and at least the people i know irl don't fake their life like that on social media, so maybe the people you know are like that or, maybe, just maybe me and my friends are a bunch of freaks
lamar wahb my definition of genuine is exactly what it's defined as.
Zairo Delgadillo it sounds like you and your friends are doing things right. paying attention to each other and creating quality memories. :)
1:48 I love how you show them putting away their phones for the photo, then are straight back into it - seen it SOOOO many times
I didnt even notice I was living like this until I deleted my account for a week. 🙈 Resisting the urge to make things look insta-worthy from now on and focusing on actual life. Love it!!!
same!
Same 😌🌻
Relate tho
For me it’s the opposite. I never really liked having many social media but I’m just curious so I’ll give it a shot.
lol
What annoys me the most is when I see couples or friends at a restaurant on their phones and not talking to eachother! It just drives me mad! Or worst, I was at a MacDonald's recently where they had put iPads for kids to play whilst eating!! Just TALK!!!
Ilona Winn ohmygod true 😭💔
They probably are talking, the internet is one of the best methods of communication invented.
agreee
Ilona Winn , yes it annoys me also!!! Couple went out with each other but are busy with their phones!! Another thing is clicking photos after photos of the food and uploading!!! It's like I'm eating the food only to show off!! *So irritating these things are!!* 😥😥😥
I hate thar Ipads so much... Kids this days... but its not their fault

Yes!!!!
On point!👍
Social media is causing a lot of mental health problems.
I am happy that i didn't use anykind of social media except youtube and messaging apps .
If people really do these things it feels like like they are living in delusion .
I feel sorry for teens today. Everything’s about image.

So, true 👍🏻
They said taking picture is to keep the memories, but that's not the case for today's world, it's more like bragging about your boring daily life that you created to make it look "fun", "happy", "luxurious", "my life is perfect", while it actually just for attention and gaining more likes, get a life and stop thinking what other people thinks about you

@@ladydancer20 honestly, yeah
Everybody sitting on their phone when out at a restaurant has always irked me.
Brett910 SAME! Like okay, sometimes there’s a social media break, I’m guilty of sometimes being on social media but I don’t stay on too long. In real life, I see people socializing, but I don’t go out much, and I’m always paying attention to my company instead of the people around me.
Same with me.
I'm to parsimonious for that. Have no data-tariff.
Brett910 we aren't allowed phones when eating out, this way we actually interact with each other 😸
Brett910 I work at a restaurant and let me just tell you it really pisses me off especially when a couple or a date is on there phones
7 years later, it's in my feed, and in a way it still holds true. They did something wrong to our generation.
Most people i've met that are like this have been the most miserable in real life.

People: Why are you not active on social media
Me: I don't feel insecure about my presence in this world.
....... Guess am not the only one.
@JustArtHobbies That's a good one 👍
People: why don’t you post anything? Are you a real person?
Me: I live my offline life. I’ve got no time to write, shoot and edit posts 😂
My SMM manager: you 🤬

Heard this somewhere,
"Out of 24 hours, people hardly get 24 minutes of true happiness. During this time, the person clicks 24 pictures. Finally, he shares one single best picture magnified with filters, which ruins the mental well-being of next 24 people."
It's so sad!! Honestly, the lies that are believed in social media really has an impact on everyone's self esteem.

I hope one day in social media there will be a trend for truth and sincerity and people will understand that they don't have any imperfections, we will stop belittling ourselves.
Indeed
Yup
nothing about social media is social.
MrProphetius should be called internet media
Been two years I quit social media. I don't know how better it made my life but I can definitely say that it saved me from a lot.of anxiety, panic, garbage and waste of time.
Same

Now that’s inspiring!
RUclips is also social media though
The only person who needs to understand your worth is YOU.
abrarjunejo yup
Many of them are out of the house when they use social media, lol
abrajunejo The irony is that I know my daughter "likes" the posts of people she feels sorry for - so the amount of likes definitely does NOT reflect on how popular you ....it is false recognition.
abrarjunejo amen
abrarjunejo I need help. My sister is supposed to be studying because she going to university, and all her focus is on is social media. Also putting makeup up, checking out her stories on ig/Snapchat and it's annoying! She is never gonna go to university and I keep telling her too, she never listens.
I'm amazed that some comments are from 2 years ago. Not one thing has changed since. This is why I never got instagram
It is social media period. They just used Instagram as an example.
Facebook is worse!
Same here. No Instagram or Twitter.

Ppl talk to you more online than face to face when you hang out with them.

Comparing is kind of the norm in social media quite often now :(
Instagram: how different are you from the other people
Twitter: how people think the same as you
Sumukh wise
Sumukh I agree. But I had a Twitter for 2 months b/c my friends finally talked me into making one and I didn’t really like it. It was just a lot of apathetic posts that people would never say in real life. What really surprised me were that most retweeted/favorited tweets were made from people that were pretty “anti-social” or lacked social skills in real life
St. Petersberg reddit
you FORGOT ABOUT ME FACE BOOK HOW DARE YOU!!!!! I only youtube for half my time whatever
