Strymon nailed that rotary effect algorithm.

I personally liked the sound of the Terraform more often than the Mobius. The one thing I wish both of these had though are infinity knobs with LED indicators (kind of how the mode knob is, but with a lot more LEDs) for all the parameters. That way you can see right away where your settings are when flipping through presets.

The Terraform sounds best to me, the closest to analog when I compared it myself to the Strymon Mobius and Boss MD-500. I consider myself an analog addict, and it won't be replacing my Moogerfooger Phaser or EHX Electric Mistress. But the Terraform does sound REALLY good for digital, worth trying for yourself instead of judging it based on a RUclips video. One note, it does need some sort of buffer pedal in front of it to get the best sound out of it and eliminate background noise. Any Boss pedal will do, even a tuner or EQ, or any other pedal that has buffered bypass.

I did not expect the Mobius to hold up so well in this comparison. I preferred the Mobius for all the different mod types. Just my ears though, I can see people loving the Terraform too. Thanks for the demo, shnobel!

Didn't seem to be a clear winner to me sound wise. There's some trade-offs between the two: size (terraform) vs. screen (mobius) probably being the biggest difference that I care about. A lot of comments in here suggesting neither sound that great, I have the Mobius on my board and it's makes studio quality sounds. Some truly great tones can be had adding it together with analog drives etc. YMMV. I have the Mobius because I don't use any one particular modulation effect (except chorus) often enough to warrant having a bunch of dedicated pedals on my board/taking up loops, but I still want to be able to use them when the moment calls for it. And as for the chorus, I had the Boss CE-2W and Juliana and sold them both after comparing them with the Mobius. I also treasure MIDI control as a singer - I need to be able to hit one switch and have my sound change completely, not do a tap dance.

I have owned the Mobius, currently own the MD-500, and owned the Terraform for about a week. The MD-500 sounds good, but I miss the Mobius. I originally bought the MD-500 because I didn’t love the fact that the Mobius cuts a bit of low end. And since I use my pedalboard for both guitar and bass, I thought it was important to have that back. But I have just ordered a used Mobius and will most likely replace the MD-500. I thought the Terraform sounded pretty bad. I flipped it within a week. I remember the chorus being pretty good, but flanger, phaser, and especially Rotary all were weak. I have been through plenty of analog modulation pedals and the best were the Diamond chorus and phaser. But I wanted more effects in a single unit, and the Mobius has been the best I’ve tried so far.

What's interesting is that the Strymon seems (to my ears) to have a bit more presence and top-end clarity... which makes the effects sound a little bit more complex, but also make a lot of them sound a bit digital and sterile.

"digital" is not a sound. Behringers cheap digital pedals can easily match more expensive analogue pedals in a blind test. Don't fool yourself

I almost always preferred the Strymon, but the Wampler had a better Uni-Vibe sound.

I own the Mobius. I was hoping the Terraform to be better but finally it's almost the same. There is not a difference big enough for me to change my current configuration.
Modulation effects seem to be the hardest to emulate with digital algorithms. Too bad. We will still have to wait for a massive improvement.

Very good comparison! I think the Wampler sounded more lush to my ears.

Really cool pedals and great demo. For me the mobius wins. I'm a big fan of the empress nebulus. But also analog modulations are killer like the EVH flanger.

I’m thinking of trading in my Mobius for a terraform but I’m on the fence. I’m really tired of menu-diving

    • @gearoftones8585

@@jared7611 the Terraform takes all of that away. The mobius is a great pedal but to my ears, the Terraform sounds better on most of the FX. Although I don't use this effect much, the Terraform has the best, most natural sounding digital flanger that I've ever tried. It's rotary and vibe and also excellent. All of the effects are really. There were a few effects on the mobius the were just no use to me at all.
Maybe go to a shop and give the Terraform a try? I haven't regretted it one bit. I suppose the one downside is you've only got 8 preset slots. That doesn't bother me but if you use a lot of different presets it might be an issue. I tend to just find one great setting that I like for each effect and that's what I always have saved.

    IMHO:
    Terraform wins: vibe and phaser.
    Match: swell (hahaha)
Mobius: everything else. Sounds richer, fuller to my ears.

I prefer the Mobius. But both sound harsh and digital.

For the $150 price difference I'd go with Wampler. Then again I have nearly everything these pedals emulate so unless I want space savings I don't need them.

@@ramon2008. Yes, individual pedals (analog) will always sound better, not least for modulation.
