I came here to watch a demo... I'm leaving realizing I should spend less time buying pedals and more time practicing 😢 Awesome playing!
22:37 broke my finger just watching that 😂
Kitty got a Uni-vibe! :)
I’ve seen 20 reviews on this pedal. They all make the pedal sound cheesy because they don’t understand how to use modulation. Tom sold me because he “gets” it. Stellar player, classy review. Nice work.
Coming back to this video after recently getting hold of a Terraform, I can say that this is the best example of the very hi-fi, high-headroom way the pedal sounds. It really is exceptional for its medium-to-high price and to me sounds better than some of the most expensive competition. It's been mentioned in user reviews that it stands up well in A-B tests with Boss and TC classics, too, but having more controls it's more useful. For example, the Blend knob can make the 4-stage phaser subtle enough to work like a 2-stage. It's incredibly small, too. On my board it fills the space previously occupied by only one normal and one mini pedal (EHX Mod 11 and Mooer Envelope, both excellent in their own right by the way). A modern classic.
It's Tom Quayle I'm here for, nothing else. The man is a guitar genius.
Yes he is Chris!
Goof for you.
I agree 100% Chris, Tom is just an absolute genius .
What he plays at 33:48 is pretty cool.
This is the best review of Terraform on RUclips. I'm thankful for you!
One of the best gear reviews I have ever seen. Thank you!
That was some seriously tasty playing during the intro demo !!
Another Listen, Tom, excellent demo and as always your playing is an inspiration.
Wonderful playing!
Awesome video man! Thank you
Tom is a master of all on the strings!
Great job explaining the pre- and post- settings. Very interesting!
good sound this machine pretty quickly thank you for demo
A great variety of rhythm in your improv Tom, nice.
This is so awesome! I'm going to buy myself Tom Quayle for christmas!
Excellent clear review, thanks for sharing :-)
Tom- beautiful playing!
I just purchased the amazing Ego comp and you have now sold me on the Terra!!! Brian is making some incredible products
Tuned in to listen to TQ jam. Added bonus review of the new Wamp Stomp! Thanks guys.
Very impressive pedal. With the pre/post functionality, this really can take the place of a couple rack devices. Thanks for your excellent playing!
This „demo“ music is ready for CD release 👍
Doing the lord's work 🙌🏼
Well done!!
Thanks Martina!
as long as you know we won't sound like that when we buy it. wonderful playing.
I'm so menu-phobic, I needed a nap after reading all the labels on this thing's knobs.
I love when your reviews are more like a conversation about gear, it feels so much easier to watch.
Great demo, lovely playing. Does not "sound" digital - sounds like almost all of the bases are covered well with this one!
Fantastic overview demo Tom! Really looking forward to mine - maybe this weekend. I think I will try to steal a few of your chord sequences when I try it out... hope you don't mind!? In any event was really enjoying this.
whatever your playing sounds great
Hey Tom,
Great demo mate.
The Thomas Blug Amp one has that same midi to trs adaptor too I think.
Awesome tones and playing as per your high standards.
Cheers from Down under.
I'm feeling that guitar (and combo amp).
Tasty!
Mmm, mmm good! 👌🏻🕶✌🏻
Strange....Wonderful.....
Great guitar player
The 3.5mm trs midi is genius. That should be an industry standard
Great sounding device... Of course it helps to have a great Guitar Player Demo it
For those that really wanted to play synth but only had a guitar, it's: The Wampler!
Brian Wampler is the man.
Me at 0:00: Hey, a cool pedal.
Me at 12:07: Wait, what the heck are those chords? (Rewinds 10 times)
Me after 10th rewind: gonna throw my guitar in trash.
You're just too good dude.
The Harmonic Tremelo & Auto Swell are two of the most unique effects on this mulimod pedal. Also interesting: the chorus is based on EHX Small Clone and the envelope filter and wah are derived from the Dunlop Cry Baby. If you get the one of the MD's those are based on Boss chorus, "touch wah" & auto-wah. Personally I love the Dimension, Chorus, Harmonic Tremelo, Rotery, Univibe & Envelope Filter. Note that two of those are inherently different on the Boss multimods...
I was wondering the other day, How many Wampler Pedals are to many. I'm thinking that was a silly thought, looks like another great pedal. I love my Tumnus and my Catapulp pedals. Really great stuff.
Really a great video. You went through all the core sounds. And yeah you okay great too so that helps. 😃 Do you currently own one of these?
Phat!
Ordered this out of the blue today. 2 years late to the party but hoping it sounds as good as it does in this video 🤘
me too lol
@@lexdarocy You won't be disappointed. Use the manual though and notice that Brian recommended to set most of the effects with the volume below noon.. he did that for a reason. Lol there's plenty of headroom. Especially stuff like the envelope, which sounds amazing and is super tweakable, you just don't want to rip ears off when you click it on. Lol but if for some reason you wanted the envelope to be a lead boost as well, you have the option
I love the way Tom can leave his index finger on a fret and move the rest of his body to a different country. And as if by magic can do the same with all his other fingers, like leaving a trail as to where he is going, or has been. Tom I hate you.
Good Player, Good Guy.
Damn I think all jazz players need to play through these Laney amps. Such an incredible tactile sound, and great pedal amp duh!
Ever since I tried the Terraform at NAMM, I was blown away. I want it so baaaad ❤
Just over 4 hours to go
TQ's playing is as usually otherworldy smooth! Nice not having to hear the same old tired blues licks, specially when showcasing a Mod-machine. As a suggestion though, it would be great to hear some more ambient/post-rocky textures on some of the logarithms, to accurately show the versatility of this pedal, being that not all of us guitarrists are that jazz/fusion oriented. Even if this ain‘t no rev/dly ambient pedal, but sth like the way Steven Wilson used modulation, that shoegazey wide chord thingie. cheers!
Just got one for the band I tech for. It’s a lot of fun. Very easy to use.
God tier tech holy shit
It reminds me of the guitar sounds on the Soundgarden song Black Hole Sun
That is indeed a Uni-Vibe in the song.
Damn you have some fine ass chops.
Bet Guthrie Govan is one of ur fan-type- people right? inspires
Definitely want this pedal sometime soon :D
Came because of the pedal. Stayed because of the music.
It sounds great, my only gripe is the same as the first Gen Fusion: side mount jacks, which in the context of a pedal board, make it take up as much space as a Strymon pedal anyway when you allow space for the jacks. If they made it larger to allow for top mount jacks, it would fit into most pedal boards much better. I'm a little surprised they made a pedal this advanced with side jacks.
No room to. It moves all the controls down way too much and puts them too close to the stomp switches.
Depends on your pedal board, I guess.
Square plugs are a huge help. They’re flatter than a mogami pancake.
@@thatbrianwampler Interesting comment to me only because of pedals similar size to the Empress Reverb and Echosystem. Unfortunately the side jacks really mess this up as an option, although I'm very interested due to the midi control.
Brian Wampler 1/2 inch Taller @ rear. No big deal. It's not like it hasn't been done before. & It's 《VERY MUCH》 Worth the COMBINED Side space. [ I've been gigging for years ! ] I would have thaught, rear, In/ out jack location would be Industry Standard by now. But I fully Understand the Music Industry point of view. 95% of Purchasers, don't play in a band. & Rarely stand.
Don’t like the univibe in any demo so far but the rest its very good. Definitely getting it as soon as I get some extra cash
Help deciding: Terraform vs MD-500 vs Mobius. I need a good rotary, Vibe and tremolo sounds. Also I need something that Preserves clean sound.
Hi Tom, what's the pedal using to play that bass lines on guitar at the beginning of the video? Cheers mate
Technically, midi over trs is not utilizing converter per se. Midi only describes the protocol, the connector itself can be anything. Most of the USB connection to effector unit are also midi (over USB connection).
I think anything that can establish rs232 (serial port) connection can be used as a medium for midi.
And I think the Boss 500-series also uses midi over trs as well. I might be wrong though.
The new boss 200 series uses trs for midi. 500 series are full size. 👍 trs to midi adapters are fairly cheap, as well, if needed.
@@MrDonc78 Thank you for corrections :-).
that chorus effect on the drive tone sounds cool
Damn sounds great to me it looks big but I guess not when you compare it with the competitors
What settings are your lionheart set to? Sounds punchy and bright while mine is more warm
Less is more with this pedal.....no need to "over effect" when a subtle effect is what 99.9% of songs need!
Can you use an expression pedal to defeat "auto" bit of the wah mode, and just use it operate the wah manually with your foot? This can be done on the Strymon Mobius, and it's really the last question I have before choosing either the Terraform or a Mobius. Cheers
11:42 … this is all run through a Timeline and a Blue Sky … are you serious?!! lol
How do u think the Terraform is in comparison to the Boss MD-500 in terms of tone? I currently own the MD-500 and even though i really really want to love it, it just has this brittle digital sound to my ears that i really dont like. Want to give the Terraform a chance before going down the route of individual stomp boxes for the effects i want to use.
*Fantastic Planet 2.0*
Brian, thank you for this marvelous pedal ! The Lex has got to go.
Since there’s no analog dry through does it affect the basic tone!
Sounds great! This or MD200?
wampler all day
I had the same question. Bought a Terraform 2 days ago. Tremendously happy with it. I have no doubt I made the right choice.
Wait a minute, I think I figured something out... Does he have the 1st string tuned to an F note? Up 1/2 step? I think so... no wonder my brain was hurting so much trying to figure out what was going on. At 23:15, G chord, hits a G note on the 3rd fret 6th string, then high G note on 1st string 2nd fret -- you sneaky guy. May also have 2nd string up, I haven't got that far.
Hopefully Brian is working on a Delay version of the Terraform
Interesting. I’ve been waiting for Gfi system’s mod pedal to come out. This looks cool though
super awesome pedal an explanation. Super awesome feature this pre and post, but.... minute 10.50 I had it all the other way around... he said phasers, vibes, flangers before....auto wah, filters etc after.... hm 🤔
That's of course entirely up to you. It was a long day!
@@tomquayleguitar you're the best! 👍
How would you compare the Terraform to the Mobius Tom?
Mobius or this??? What your recommendation?
Anyone else hear the identical sound for the start of Purple Rain at 25:06 in the vid?
Pretty sure Purple Rain was a Roland Dimension C Rack....the precursor to the Dimension D compact pedal...the new Waza has both on it..
I can't seem to find where to buy it... sweetwater doesn't have any
Patience.... ;)
@@thatbrianwampler there won't be another version with Top Mount Inputs coming out will there???
Absolutely love the Dual Fusion but wish I would've waited for v2...
I know Wamplers are real good but EHX has the MOD 11 kinda the same type pedal for quite a bit less but probably not quite as good you know what they say you get what you pay for but I like mine! Ya this pedal does quit a bit more but it is double the price!
precisely
MONO and no presets, not even comparable imo
No, not as I'd hoped.
The Rotary and Tremolo are actually BETTER than I hoped!
And it's an easy pedal to live with with some smart design happening.
Although the flanger, phaser and chorus are a digital letdown. Odd considering the Leslie sounds good; something about the all-pass filtering algo there is different.
Too "ice-pick to the eardrum" at times with some side-band aliasing like it's 1994...but not too bad for a first digital pedal.
Tom, are you gonna replace your möbius with this??
Daniel Estrellado Hey Daniel! I never owned a Mobius. The terraform is on my board now though!
Tom, the link doesn't work!
It does now!
Why only 8 presets, even with midi?
André Orsel 128 with midi according to manual.
Hate that preset button. Otherwise awesome
Is it just me or does the phaser sound kind of, let's just call it, mild?
John Scoffield, eat your heart out.
Needs time stamps
Um
Extra voltage does nothing - it’s regulated down to 9v … go too high, you’ll prob blow it … all per Brian himself.
I sent mine back as it did not one thing very good and the presets sucked and some were very weak and it is not at all worth the cost.
I didnt like the sound, but the guitar player is awesome.
It doesn't remember your settings? No presets. You have to fiddle with knobs each time you switch effects. So...useless on stage.
34 minutes wow!! Bye!
Bye!
