  • Join me on a road trip as I explore the world of affordable machinery, featuring the seasoned Takeuchi TB016 mini digger. Witness the excitement as I test its functions and share a gripping tale of a past digger-buying experience gone awry, involving a character fresh out of prison for running a car theft ring.
    Experience the highs and lows as I drive the digger onto my land, envisioning a future akin to the legendary Andrew Camarata. Playfully ponder if I'm having a midlife crisis amidst my multitude of ongoing projects, including building my own house.
    As the video unfolds, I candidly reveal the challenges encountered with the pre-owned digger, discussing the required repairs and why I deemed it a worthy investment. However, a twist awaits as I delve deeper into the machine's intricacies, discovering more work than initially anticipated. Join me on this rollercoaster of excavator ownership - was it a good buy, and can I conquer the challenges that lie ahead?

    Don’t forget, when you’re finished with it, worse case you’ll still get 4K back. I looked at that and thought 6k at the start, you did ok. I’ve been in plant all my life and still run 5 machines now, that money machine will always sell you will never be stuck with it. Only thing I would say is, it’s done more than 1300hrs.

    Aidan take my experience with a pinch of salt, renting mostly micro and one 2.5t machine, buying a Chinese micro that now has 30 hours on it. That machine is a 5k+ hours. It's not the end of the world. If it does what you need it can be made to then win. The Andrew camarata reference, you've made my day, if only a single person I know understands the reference I'd be a happy man. Now can you speak to farmcraft101? Good luck fella, I'll be following you 👍

      I used to love Andrew Camarata. The guy can do anything. But recently I've become a fan of Farmcraft101, and he knows about 'seals'!....which I suspect is where Aiden is heading.

    I admire your honesty mate! It's not like most guys admit when they've been hoodwinked. I bought a boat once that had hidden problems I chased, pouring more time and money into it than I would ever admit. You might cut your loses and give the next bloke a deal on it. I like your effort to rationalize how you might be able to make the piece of s--t worthy. Hate to see you suffer any more than you have to. Prison is a good place for the ass that saw you coming.
    You're always are able to laugh a bit and know you'll be right in the end. It's only money.

    I took the plunge like this myself last December and bought a small JCB. It is tidier than your but I paid quite a bit more. It has been really useful to have on site so far and will be great for landscaping. I am hoping we don't loose as much as we would have paid on rental. Its really handy to have on site when you need it.

    I totally know that buyers regret, not with plant (although part of me would love to buy a digger). The advantage you have is the digger will provide more content for your channel and I’m not alone wanting to see you do the work on it. 👍🏽 Excited about the merch and I’d pay £25 for the knife to support the channel. Thanks for your honest and real videos keep up the great work.

  • @davidsmith3995

    Everyone has great hindsight and expertise in the past. If the digger can do most of what you need, and you have to do some repairs, thats just the way of buying used. I am certain having the digger there when you need it will outweigh all hire costs and all that goes with it. And as you a have a go kinda guy, you will be able to tackle most of its repairs. Roll on the utility knife, £25 is a fair price

    Like others have said you will get your money back at the end of the day when you come to sell it.
    What i did need was a load of acrows, found. guy that was selling x10 but at a good price. when i went to collect he also had a scaffold tower which i was going to need. Turns out he was a genuine builder but had just had enough of the game and this was his way of making him self stop. He kept coming out with bits and asking I needed 100mm pipe fittings, manholes, electrics, GRP roofing it just went on and on. took me x4 trips to collect it all. In the end I ended up paying way more than i budgeted for acrows but nearly every thing has been useful.
    Point is, it really scared me how much of my budget i spent so early in the project (DIY) but it has proved a good investment, knowing that if I look after it I will get the same if not more than I orginally paid.

    The value of something is linked to how useful it is too you. If you get a lot of use out of it and then sell it on then its a bargain. It also gives you time to procrastinate - rather then rushing cos the hired digger is due to be picked up you can procrastinate your little heart away 😀

  • @dwalsh3469
    @dwalsh3469 6 месяцев назад +3

    If it works, I’d just use it and then sell it. Without being unduly insensitive, there will always be somebody else who thinks they want a digger. Most people who head to B&Q to buy a drill don’t really want a drill - they want a hole. So they buy a cheap drill and make the hole they were after in the first place. If you even just cover the rental costs, you are on top - you can do the work at your own least inconvenience.

    Has it done a full circuit around the clock...? It's like when you get a car and the the pedals and gear knob are all worn shiny but the odometer says 50k miles 🤨
    I don't really know current plant prices, but before you said all that was wrong with it I was thinking £1800...? 😁
    Once you've spent a bit tarting it up you'll likely get your money back if/when you sell it on at the end of the project.

    I think I would use and abuse it if its in a working condition (top up the coolant). Don't go throwing a bunch of cash at it unless it breaks. Buy some cans of paint to tidy it up maybe. Problably best to put a roll cage on it or something.

    put a minimum amount of money in the machine and use it until you have earned your money back in rent, I think you need about 250 to 400 hours, I would look at the cooling, the sweating of the hydraulic oil is not a problem if you tie a cloth to it the goal is to get the job done even if it takes a little longer it is always cheaper than overhauling the machine keep it good enough to get the job done I have done a little more work on my large crawler excavator, but I like it and had the goal of using for it longer
    hours , but I am in the process of replacing it with a wheel excavator because it is practical for me

    If you don't know anything about machinery, always go and look at 4/5 bits of machinery before seriously trying to buy one, you will quickly notice a pig when you see one - that digger has had a long hard life!!!

  • @Sean006
    @Sean006 6 месяцев назад +1

    I think you'll just have to use it until something big or dangerous breaks on it. Make sure the engine isn't overheating though.
    It will never be a perfect machine. Get as much use out of it as you can.....but fix anything that makes it unsafe to use. Your life is more valuable than any machine.
    A bit of a learning experience. Unfortunately it looks like you've gone swimming in a sea full of sharks and got bitten. Hopefully you'll survive and not come away too damaged. But use it, abuse it, get your money out of it....and put it down to experience.
    I might even buy a knife!
    As someone else mentioned....Farmcraft101 is an inspirational guy. He bought an old dozer that needed a lot of work. But I suspect you already have enough on your plate. Use it until it breaks.

    He bought a machine that he thinks may have been stolen?

    • @THE-AIDEN-PROJECT
      @THE-AIDEN-PROJECT  6 месяцев назад +2

      It seems I may have confused some people. So I will explain. The last digger I tried to buy was probably stolen. This digger I don't think is but loads of people do because there is a plate missing that has the serial number on. That plate is riveted to the outside of the machine so it can easily come off if it's had a hard life. The riveted plate can easily be replaced at any time, just because the plate is missing it doesn't mean it's stolen. The serial number is stamped on the actual body. If that was gone then yeah, that would be totally dodgy. But the serial number is still there. The engine number is also still there. If someone stole one of these they would get rid of the serial number all together or try and make a good job of changing the number on the body and then put a new plate on.
