Digging a Big Hole for a Famous YouTuber: Behind the Scenes of a DIY Soakaway Project

- Join us in this exciting behind-the-scenes adventure as we team up to tackle a crucial home improvement project! In collaboration with the renowned RUclipsr, Keith from @RagnBoneBrown , we took on the challenge of building a brand new soakaway for his rainwater runoff issues.
With limited access, we used a JCB micro digger to excavate a sizeable hole for the soakaway crates. The process involved careful pipework installation, stabilizing the dig with metal ramps and structural ply, and layering the soakaway crates with pea shingle and geotextile fabric. Keith's main video provides an in-depth look at the project, while our video offers a unique perspective on the teamwork and DIY approach that went into making it happen.

What a great day it was (easy to say that now that the aches and pains have subsided!). It was another two days before I could finish off the trench and guttering 🤣 thanks again so much, you're a legend. And just let me know when you need a helping hand (need any gravel moving?) ❤
How about shifting 10 tonne of crushed limestone one day? 😂
@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT Would be a great video. But don't forget to record the day after: "Keith's whole body in pain"
What a nice guy helping Keith out - favour to be returned?????? 😜
I'm sure I can find something he can help me out with one day 😉
I remember I subscribed because of Keith's video but I forgot to watch this at the time, LOL. Very hilarious to see Unplugged Rag'n'bone :D
Just subscribed on Rag'nBone's recommendation.
Looks like nice free draining soil, I’ve got clay over bedrock, so no soak-away.
Similar to my place, just solid London clay for meters 😑 luckily enough I arranged to pipe to a ditch on my neighbours land 😁
Watching this, I can't help but think of your video a few months ago about being reluctant to ask for help. Hope you're enjoying the power of teamwork and seeing the fruits of having some lil diy buddies!
It's like I said hey, I like helping other people but getting help for myself is a struggle 😬 I'm sure I can think of something he can help me with sometime though 😅
Just subscribed, came over from the "rag n bone brown" channel
Welcome aboard 👍
2 awesome youtubers, good job!
Thanks!
Well done! An unexpected collab, but a welcome one. Luckily the ground looked like fairly easy to dig; we found our soakaway dig was a concrete-like mixture of hard clay and rock.
Yeah I was surprised it was all pretty much sand, round my way it's all clay and massive lumps of flint which is an absolute b*tch
What a guy, nice to see you helping Keith out
Rag and Bone Brown man sent me here! Subscribed
We had to do a new soak away for our extension, 4m out 2m deep but thankfully were able to get a bigger digger in, was still a lot of effort and money for something we will never see again.
that doesn't look like 4m from the property
@@peterthebricky Theirs isn't, they do explain why at the start
A load of money ends up in the ground or just hidden hey 😅 I do prefer bigger diggers, they're easier to operate
Nice work boys 🥳
Thanks for the sneak peek! Newish to your channel, been watching Keith's for yonks. Both have great content; Keep it up. Take care & stay safe.
Welcome aboard 😁
Two top RUclipsrs, well done!
Thanks! 😃
It was Keith’s recommendation that got me watching your videos so great to see a collaboration between the two of you. Also highlighted a point I hadn’t looked at in the regs which means I can not do my soak away and now have to rethink the whole thing 😢 cursing the previous works done on my house even more now.
Ah what's the issue that you have then?
@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT drainage from a slopping drive currently running to the house with no means of getting rid of it. Storm water drain is at the rear with no easy access. Was planning a soak away but to get the distance from the house will be next to a public footpath and fairly busy road. So looks like I may have to look at a French drain but not sure I’ll have the fall to the rear. The cowboys that did previous work got rid of the drain that was originally in place and left the gutter emptying on the front of the house. Sort that but the drive run off needs something.
@@Gman4633 maybe just do the best you can like Keith has done, I'm sure there's lots of people that do the same as you can't always do 5m
@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT to many people can see what I’m doing and should there be a failure on the path or Road I cannot afford the fallout.
How long do you think Keith will need to recover, I wonder how much you saved him by doing it
He commented above and said 2 days 😂 he was definitely a broken man by the end of it
Err, how do I go about booking you? 🤔
😂 why do you need a digger man?
😂 why do you need a digger man?
@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT Crikey no! I wouldn’t want to share it! I loves a toy 🤓
Though I have to admit, you were pretty sharp on that thing 🫡
@@workingonthehouse8038haha yeah I'm pretty good with getting my head round driving and operating different machines, have had plenty of practice on diggers though
@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT I was quite surprised at how difficult it was! But then I’m not very coordinated 🤪
The fact that you removed the roll bar , then continued to operate the machine without re-attaching it is beyond belief. Also after accessing where you need to be why did you not operate the machine correctly and widen the track base. Obviously because no one had explained to you how to do it. Great job in what you have done , but it is just the way you have operated the machine what I found annoying. 🚜🚜🚜
Hey Jamie, thanks for the feedback and your concern 👍 it was a calculated risk, I didn't extend the tracks cause I was on stable ground. I've operated lots of diggers up to 5 tonnes on my build so I've got a good grasp of the capabilities and any stability issues so I knew I was safe
