i found that the biggest bang(performance factor) for buck upgrades are, tires, brake pads, anti roll bars, suspension (handling). Weight reduction, Final drive upgrade, exhaust (power). couple these with good engine oil, spark plugs. get used to how the car feels now first. After some time, progress into horsepower enhancement, with intake upgrades, engine upgrades, a tune with an ECU. But TAKE THINGS SLOW, as once u give your car in for tuning, there will be some new headaches.. which u may not want. because with the cost of secondary mods, you may end up ruining the car, with a hole in your pocket! So enjoy being a car enthusiast! but control the expense!

ThatGodDamnPotato TRD parts work better than any other brand. Trust me - I have a few decades of modding Toyotas in my experience- I’ve made all the mistakes
I had the Hotchkis bars on my 09 xb too. The BEST mods I did to that car were a fidanza lightweight flywheel (REALLY woke the engine up) and a quaife lsd. That thing was a different car on the back roads after that.
Lynn Mckenney One of the cars that finished in the front pack of the 1st Texas Ralley was a 1st gen xB - kept up in the twisties with Celica GT4, MR2s and AE86s. Blew my mind.

What an awesome review on mods guys! Honest, clear and very informative stuff, your presentation had me glued to the screen till the very end! Keep these reviews coming.
Yes! People need to learn their cars first before they have an overbuild that they don't know how to drive. I started stock, to springs, and now full suspension work. The difference was day and night with how I learned. It's like how Piccolo or Rocklee from DBZ and Naruto removed the weights in their fights.
Most of the time you can drastically improve your suspension by simply installing new shocks and struts. The factory shocks are only good for about 20-30k i've seen many cars beyond 100k that still have the factory shocks on them
Changed my front ones, was gonna do the back but decided to wait until coil overs the real surefire upgrades to do. Tires, shocks and struts, brakes rotors , cv axles, tie rod ends etc. Take care of the little stuff and you'll feel a major difference
I'm surprised that sway bars were not on your list. That has to be one of the most effective suspension part to upgrade, decrease body roll is very noticeable
All the mods here are certainly great. I guess I'd add a tune and freer flowing up/downpipes for the turbo folk, but not before adding the previously mentioned better brakes.
Okay, so I've been watching videos on performance vehicles for many many years and have never commented on any of them. This guy had the most useful information on the fundamentals I've ever heard. I have a 96 Trans Am with 1000 mods. Some of which were done before me most of which I did. So I thought I knew it all. This video this video closed a lot of gaps for me
Soon to be banned in UK.. They only Want electric and hybryd cars on our roads within 15 yrs... Many city centres already banned its crazy... Bloody gretta 😩
Catless exhaust, removed weight AND heat from the engine bay. Best mod I have done to date. My primary cats are right off the manifolds, so they retain a ton of under hood heat. This caused hot intake temps and poor performance until they came up to temp. So much heat that my hood was too hot to touch after even a short drive. A simple tune did away with the o2 code and no mufflers gave me a big smile. Now the engine can breathe and I can make pops and bangs all the time. Best mod so far.
All jokes aside , I’m surprised he didn’t mention a tune .. granted a tune really o my works on cars with some kind of forced induction (turbo .. supercharger).. but in my experience with both .. I found a cold air intake is a great start ! It’s not terribly expensive and you really notice quicker response from the engine and a slight power gain followed by better fuel economy . Enough to where you’ll be seeing good fuel economy even when you drive the car hard. .. in most situations you NEED a cold air intake in order to support certain mods. Such as headers .. a tune .. or Ext. Car culture is car culture .. opinions aside the love for Cars is universal . Regardless of what you drive !
lxp3lxp3 any gains from a cold air intake are at high RPM, which you won’t be at on the street much. So yeah, he’s right, they’re a waste of money. I’d rather invest that money in headers, or suspension components.
Pretty much if you drive a Subaru and want to go stage 2 or higher is when the intake would be useful, combining it with a custom tune, exhaust, injectors, fuel pump, etc, it gets costly for all that but that’s when it’s worth having an intake. And besides, if you don’t even have any other mods it still sounds wicked awesome, like having a freaking hurricane under your hood.
Lol I love the sense of opinion ! But remember THE LOVE FOR CARS IS UNIVERSAL . Regardless of what you drive ! I personally had a matte gray Veloster turbo that I tuned and did a bunch of shit too.. and now I have a VW R32 that is also slightly modified so I’m boast toward hatchbacks and stuff .. but that’s what I love ! I also sell cars at Carmax .. and it’s taught me that All cars are cool lol just to different people :)
I got gains off my IE CAI for my mk6 gti in the mid-high rpm range. Plus whoosh with no bov is so lovely. I think Tony was talking in generalities tbh; most cars people tune are 90s and didn't come stock turbo like 240sx (ka24, were talking state side atm), integras, vr6 gtis (r32/mk4 gti) etc. So the CAI isn't going to be a big of an improvement on those over a car that 1) has forced induction 2) the ecu can adjust to the increased air flow (though as OP states, tunes can help with this and a CAI is generally needed for anything stage 2 or above)
Best mod I've done is going for a set of Enkei EDR9 performance rims. They were about 1.5lbs lighter than the stock rims and they looked hella good at the same time
Best mod I’ve done to my $2k Porsche 944 so far is reworking the ignition system. New spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, coil, etc. Amazing how much of a power difference actually running on all four cylinders makes.
I drilled loads of tiny holes in my pistons for extra weight reduction and to help the piston move faster, il let you know how it goes when it wants to run.
It is important to stop and handle well. For power mods, in order of general expense, start with breathing mods. (Intake and exhaust) Some cars see really nice gains with a tune at this point but you can see benefits without one. Cams are one of the best HP per dollar you can buy, but normally require a tune. Nitrous is pretty much engine abuse for a daily driver, and it runs out. You can stay naturally aspirated (heads, headers,...) or go forced induction, but both routes require engine components to be specifically matched to work well together. There's too much engine theory for a RUclips comment. Keep in mind some stock clutches (and automatics) really don't take power well, and can cause a real big hole in you pocket when they break. Edit: All cars are engineered differently and respond to mods differently. Cars with poorly designed air boxes will see real benefits from an intake, and there's some cars that will lose power. Research on what others have done to your particular car is the best resource. Also regular maintenance and high mileage services should be done before any investment in power.
@@kylelaughinghouse1893 That's a good point, the diff ratio can change the car. You wont see it on a dyno because the operator is supposed to correct to 1:1 ratio to estimate horsepower at engine (minus drivetrain loss). But it can seriously effect acceleration. It's a real pain on my car, not only labor but requires ECU and TCU flash. And i'm happy at 3.38.
Yep thanks and its cheaper than the route in the video. I've never seen anyone start with suspension mods. Its a bad start unless you are tracking the car. He said CAI are a waste but failed to mention that no matter what you do to the engine you need to increase the amount of air that can go into your car if you want to maximize any power or torque gains. I agree 100% start with intake and exhaust faster in faster out.
Had my car for like 3 days now, so mods that are my favorite, which are the only ones I've done 1. LED lights for mood lighting the interior (I absolutely love this one) 2. Pedal covers cause I thought they looked cool.
i mean you're not wrong but top speed is just engine rpms -> top gear in trans -> final drive ratio in diff -> wheel/tire size, those are literally the only things that affect the top speed of your car you could spend $15k turning a 200hp brz into a 900hp brz but if you leave the trans/diff/wheels at stock ratios/sizes all you're gonna do is get to 150mph faster (admittedly a LOT faster)
Cold air intakes work and will increase hp dramatically on large displacement engines *let's say 6.2 chevy truck and lt1-lt4 motors as well as 5.0's* I've seen someone gain 20 wheel hp on a new silverado on the dyno from just a cold air intake. Those were back to back runs, same climate and only an hour apart.
LSX_ moe I don't think he's talking about those type of engines. I think he is talking about people who are new to it all and maybe just bought a let's say e36
e36 also gains from cold air, even smart gains from cold air if u do it propertly.... I dont talk about a cone air filter but cold air intake, like a "demon"
Ill bite. I had an LS3. I put in a BTR stage 3 cam, upped the valvetrain components and put on LT headers. Significant gain on the dyno. Later, I put on a cold air intake and a "rod mod" to the intake manifold. Got it retuned and back on the dyno. No peak gain, tiny low end gain. I'll also include that the cold air intake that I put on actually had a housing that required me to relocate my windshield washer reservoir so that I can put on a metal "scoop" in its place just to push air from the front bumper onto the intake, effectively making it a RAM air intake. Rod Mod to IM - 300 Cold air intake - 400 Waste of 700 + 300 for a tune and dyno.
I mean most people that this video appeals to speed does more of less come from the engine. I doubt most of these people are taking their cars to the track so coilovers and breaks are basically negligible. Traction is obviously important but in a straight line it's only going to get you so far. Most people looking to modify their car just want that surge of execration while they rip down an on ramp burning through gears, and if you drive a stock turbo charged car you can get away with throwing 1500 bucks at a stage 1 tune and be perfectly happy.
Thanks for the video. I have a ‘96 Cappuccino and, as much as I love her, hearing the little 64 HP engine cry when I’m above 65 MPH makes me cry for her and she deserves some love.
Alright.... straight piped mustang does a burnout on their block at 10:00PM and his neighbor who is a cop is gonna hear that, but if it had stock/muffled exhaust he might’ve not even heard it

TRD parts work better than any other brand.

My best mod for my e90 gotta be the suspension Bilstein B16 with the M3 Control Arms upgrade. Car handles like a beast!

that little horsepower advice can make someone's day
I put bicycle tires on my car for weight reduction. Worked... Great
best mod out there for sure. If u feelin extra fast you can do a seatbelt reduction...trust me mate...insane weight reduction

What an awesome review on mods guys! Honest, clear and very informative stuff, your presentation had me glued to the screen till the very end! Keep these reviews coming.
Best mod for me has been racing driving school. Mod the driver, then the car.
Sounds like you need to go back
For turbo car. Bigger intake + catless downpipe + custom tune

a video that took some work to put together.
Loved it !
Bolted my cold air intake on my turbo sounds amazing couldn't be happier with the sound. Plus added 11 hp without a tune.
I modded my ford escort by removing the radio. Weight reduction bruh
Yes! People need to learn their cars first before they have an overbuild that they don't know how to drive. I started stock, to springs, and now full suspension work. The difference was day and night with how I learned. It's like how Piccolo or Rocklee from DBZ and Naruto removed the weights in their fights.
Wildchild_inc nice dbz reference
I didn't know another way to compare it to haha
I like how honest and truthful this video is.
This video has an eerie 90s vibe...
5:36 freaking hilarious, I missed it the first watch! 🤣
This video this video closed a lot of gaps for me
this is why american v8’s are great because you can rip it apart at home a rebuild it to be a screaming monster of an engine
Should get an Australian Barra Inline 6...superior to Yankee crap 😘

Cory Falcone haha cool story bro, I’m only 28 and I’ve forgotten more about cars in the last 3 years than you’ll ever know. Good try though
5:48 anyone else notice the face?
Yeah fuck getting 60mpg and helping the environment amirite guys?
@@Metabrotropic get your environmentalist ass off here
Best mod I've done is going for a set of Enkei EDR9 performance rims. They were about 1.5lbs lighter than the stock rims and they looked hella good at the same time
FMIC - first and foremost
CAI does work but needs a proper tune and the gains are minimal, but sounds awesome
They might be minimal but noticeable. And better mpg.
Best mod for my Datsun 240z was probably the high compression V8 I stuffed into it.
I am sure adding stripes to your car adds 100hp
Millen Rogers and if you play eurobeat it adds 50hp
Millen Rogers no wonder my prius beat a Toyota camry
wtf dude, it adds like 600 murican horsepower
100hp with stripes + 500hp with popup headlights. You already have a 600hp car.
fart cans can give up to 350 hp, did i also mention the stickers and red brake calliper.
Exhaust doesn't really help the car drive better, but totally worth it! The smile on your face is priceless!
I buy 2 cans of energy drink nos everyday. One for me and one for my gas tank. Been getting about an extra 30 hp lately. Really do recommend 👌🏽👍🏽
Best mod that you kids don't ever look at is ring and pinion gear
Had my car for like 3 days now, so mods that are my favorite, which are the only ones I've done
1. LED lights for mood lighting the interior (I absolutely love this one)
2. Pedal covers cause I thought they looked cool.
Those aren’t mods 💀
When it comes to the best shocks, Bilstein is your only man 👍🏻
Here here. Got me some adjustable (coilover) Bilsteins on my TT 👍🏻
"making your car faster means improving on 3 principals of vehicle dynamics: handling, braking and acceleration"
top speed: am I a joke to you?
i mean you're not wrong but top speed is just engine rpms -> top gear in trans -> final drive ratio in diff -> wheel/tire size, those are literally the only things that affect the top speed of your car
you could spend $15k turning a 200hp brz into a 900hp brz but if you leave the trans/diff/wheels at stock ratios/sizes all you're gonna do is get to 150mph faster (admittedly a LOT faster)
Best advice I've seen for a long time - straight up to the point !!
Cold air intakes work and will increase hp dramatically on large displacement engines *let's say 6.2 chevy truck and lt1-lt4 motors as well as 5.0's*
I've seen someone gain 20 wheel hp on a new silverado on the dyno from just a cold air intake.
Streetspeed? And yeah I agree cold air intakes are not a waste. 10 to 20 more hp and is a good 1st mod you can do yourself.
LSX_ moe however it can trigger the engine check light, you wont be running an optimal ecu tune unless it comes with it or you do a dino test
Rod Mod to IM - 300
Cold air intake - 400
Waste of 700 + 300 for a tune and dyno.
Solid video. I shared it for all my bonehead friends that swear speed comes from the engine
chris google84 90% of all street racing is in a straight line anyways so they're not wrong either
E & J you mean the boring, "mine is bigger than yours" pissing contests?
I mean most people that this video appeals to speed does more of less come from the engine. I doubt most of these people are taking their cars to the track so coilovers and breaks are basically negligible. Traction is obviously important but in a straight line it's only going to get you so far. Most people looking to modify their car just want that surge of execration while they rip down an on ramp burning through gears, and if you drive a stock turbo charged car you can get away with throwing 1500 bucks at a stage 1 tune and be perfectly happy.
Luke AOD even if only in a straight line, if you want to go fast, it's also important to slow down fast.
Thanks for the video. I have a ‘96 Cappuccino and, as much as I love her, hearing the little 64 HP engine cry when I’m above 65 MPH makes me cry for her and she deserves some love.
