This is exactly why I love my '02 SS. That double wishbone setup is pure magic. I have Eibach Sportlines with Konis, upgraded swaybars, strutbars and poly bushings everywhere with Copper Cobra tires. It does circles around my brother's C6 Corvette through the Twisties. 🤘
When you're referring to "Cavitation" around 7:25 you end up explaining aeration cavitation is actually voids of nothing being formed in the fluid, this is usually the primary reason hydraulic power steering pumps and water pumps fail. When those little voids collapse they actually cause pitting and damage to metal surfaces as the voids collapsing are actually incredibly powerful!. Love what you do Jerr bear, as a technician I usually have a strong "dislike" for engineers, you've changed my opinion on them....slightly.
I think he just didn't do a great job explaining but the aeration is a result of cavitation. There is some air dissolved in the oil and the cavitation causes a low pressure area that pulls the air out of the oil as a vapor. It's not really the bad kind of cavitating that violently collapses and destroys pumps and is more like steam bubbles when you boil water.
@@ShellSide I'm far from an expert on the matter but my understanding is Aeration and Cavitation are two different phenomena one is in which air is introduced and the other is in which air is actually restored after being dissolved, so by that understanding Cavitation wouldn't cause aeration as no air is actually being added into the system. That's why aeration doesn't cause the same collapsing of bubbles and pitting of components. I'm fairly certain jerr bear is correct in saying Cavitation as no air is being introduced to a sealed shock absorber assembly, but he explained the wrong process which is honestly an easy mistake to make.
When I was just starting 2 get into mods shortly after getting my license I had already gotten use to a 92civic hatch but when I purchased a friend's 4door 93 civic sedan which had the v tech and Turbo ready setup with it chipped and programed he also had Tokiko blue lowering springs in the front and a complete set of energy suspension bushings installed and I was astounded what a difference that made. Taking a left corner you'd normally feel the car wanting to go right giving resistance but instead you'd take that left had turn and you can feel and see the car sucking itself to the ground as the turning GeForces got higher. Still blown away at how safe and capable that car was. Granted there where a few that I plan on leaving regular rubber instead of polyurethane but overall wonderful to have on the streets of Wisconsin...

I also had the subframe connectors welded in and it was solid all around. Handled way better than my 2006 GTO IRS rear and all...
Love your video. I spent most of my adult life as a formula driver. Rebound shock settings made the most positive difference in lap times. My theory is go soft on the bounce and hard on the rebound.
I completely agree with this, I work at a restoration shop and every single build people spend all their money on the motor and nobody ever thinks about brakes and suspension

Tyres, brakes, suspension, in that order, always before adding power. Though a correction about shopping cart wheels, they actually have negative caster like a car. When the axis of rotation lines up ahead of the contact patch, that's negative every time, it's only positive if the contact patch is ahead, which will cause the wheel to want to rotate to put the pivot ahead.

Either on the catfish or the Tacos (does high car have adjustable dampers) or one of the other Donut cars it might be interesting to see what happens when you transition from an overdamped to underdamped system. I'd like to think it would make a good visual but maybe the differences are too small to show up on camera.
Superchargers and suspension are both good, but can we get a video on how seat time affects speed? What makes a driver fast, and how do you know when it’s time to step back from buying parts and focus on yourself?
I’m glad you bring this up. to answer your question, the right time is YESTERDAY, lol. Every dollar spent on mechanical mods can be replicated with $.50 spent on driver training. (And I’m just being generous in assuming that the mechanical mods are *always* favorable..)
Like the other guy said basically.... It's always time to work on yourself. There will never be a point that you're so good that all that's left is physical upgrades. What makes a driver fast? Reaction time, understanding the physics of the car on the road, racing lines, and so much more.

Would love to see a part two of this vid with more time showing the swap almost like a money pit style, feel like there’s gotta be a ton of usable footage even if narration has to come from in front of the green screen. Regardless, nice vid nice work
This is exactly why I love my '02 SS. That double wishbone setup is pure magic. I have Eibach Sportlines with Konis, upgraded swaybars, strutbars and poly bushings everywhere with Copper Cobra tires. It does circles around my brother's C6 Corvette through the Twisties. 🤘
That Hyundai Kona N commercial was great 😌
When you're referring to "Cavitation" around 7:25 you end up explaining aeration cavitation is actually voids of nothing being formed in the fluid, this is usually the primary reason hydraulic power steering pumps and water pumps fail.
I work for Hyundai and you guys did such an amazing job on the commercial!!!! I say this all the time… WE NEED BETTER COMMERCIALS!!! Love you guys
Damn I remember when you guys were at low 1 mill subs. Almost 6 mill now. Hats off to you boys
MOST cars get better with just tires and some good suspension
(Thanks for making videos guys. You guys make me like cars again.)
Tires have stiffer sidewalls for the higher speed ratings.
a real car lover will always be a car lover
@@speed4age I mean depending on if you work on cars then you start to hate them haha
@@unfinishedquest I feel that, but the reality is that in one way or another you will always like them, although sometimes they give headaches
There diagrams of everything are absolutely amazing and so helpful with understanding how things are working together
i want to thank you guys. i’ve been trying to get into cars especially since i just got my wrx and i never really knew where to start. you’ve taught me and told me what stuff is and i can’t wait to start modding my car. ( with more knowledge ofc )
Best channel out there, I have a major question . Where did you guys go to learn your trade ? Do you have any specific schools you’d recommend ?
Ironically, in the past few months I have installed front and rear sway bars, control arms, panhard bar and relocation bar, strut brace and poly bushings and mounts on my 1995 formula, all of them from UMI. Just those things have made my bird handle like it’s on rails. And UMI made it so easy that my 12 year old son did most of the work. Great, easy, cost effective and noticeable! Next up, autocross!!!
Well that's awesome Matthew! Thanks for choosing UMI.
@@rameywomer3139 thanks for making it easy and exciting for getting the next generation interested in cars. And I won’t even mention the other brands that my buddy used on his 4th gen camaro who sent him ill fitting and wrong parts. Always UMI, and always in red!
@@matthewwiles7067 Damn, wish UMI had parts for export cars. Would love to kit out my E36 with their stuff if it's THAT good 😞😅
Matthew I can vouch for that. I used BMR chromoly parts on my 1994 TA and it was a mean machine with the panhard bar, torque/tranny brace, Hotchkis sways and upper strut brace, lowering springs, Bilstein HDs....
Is sth worse than front end lifting quickly when exiting the corner?
I absolutely love seeing all these guys getting along in the garage. Wholesome car work is best car work 😊♥️
Facts. Try doing it all yourself, it's so maddening. 😕
As a man who’s first muscle car love was GM F-bodies 22 years ago…this video was both informative and soul food. 🥰 💪🔧
"I could have put a supercharger on it, but oh no, we gonna go fast, by gettin low, les go."
BARS
I completely agree with this, I work at a restoration shop and every single build people spend all their money on the motor and nobody ever thinks about brakes and suspension
You should put back the progress bar when playing Ads... That was so appreciated.
Love to see a cross over with Jason from Engineering Explained and Jezza . Two engineers with a love of cars and great sense of humour
That Hyundai commercial was the only car ad I think I’ll remember, first time I watched the full ad read in any video in a long time, bravo 🙌🏼
im a skyline specialist and i honestly didnt know this but always believed there to be a reason upper arms were shorter, thank you for this video, you have my respect
That Hyundai ad is gold 😂
I'd really like to see ya put these theories to the test. Say, two near identical cars, one upgraded with better suspension, wheels, and tires; and the other with more powah baby. That would be an interesting video.
If theres lots corners on the road the test takes place on, the one with the suspension is winning 100 percent guaranteed!
“Big thank to Honda” is what I heard and I got very confused.
I liked this video 1.5mins in solely because that ad was amazing. I don't even want a Hyundai but this ad made me want it lmao. Amazing work. You guys do not get paid enough for your creativity
12:11 this info about double wishbone suspension is giving me ideas for my next car suspension upgrade.
Love seeing the catfish. I think your boss needs to buy you a supercharger to test out the new suspension
I know how Hyundai felt when he mentioned the transmission wet 🤣
I've never known what a wet clutch is, can someone explain? Maybe it has to so something with heat
@@iLIKELASAGNAaLOT It means the clutch in submerged in transmission fluid
@@iLIKELASAGNAaLOT Wet clutch is the system that clutch plate bathed in transmission oil. They are more durable than dry clutch but has more power loss.
Excellent excellent video! I would totally watch a whole series explaining suspension, please make that!
Was rocken out through Germany, Switzerland, and Malta last week. Saw two Donut window stickers, a hoodie, a Hat, and a shirt.
Horses without borders!
Damn dude you just given me a quick recap of suspense basics! Awesome vid as always 🔥🔥🔥
OMG I had to do a double take, The videos you guys produce are amazing!! been watching you for years. I am also an AMC ape LFG to the Moon!!
APE strong we got this!!
Haha me too, had me rolling🤣
Gme is the way tho
I miss seeing Zach Jobe in front of the camera! Donut, PLEASE tell me there’s something in the works? Gracias 🙏🏼
they surely make lots of videos per week... even a short time out on vacation could mean 1 month out of screen ..
Zach and Jerry are working on an all new show, keep an eye out in the coming weeks 👀
I miss seeing Zachs hair on camera
I love hearing Jerry educate me about my holes. Thank you Jerry! 😮
I work on tractor trailers, it's cute how it came apart with battery impacts. Great that you can figure out how to squeeze into those tiny gasser gaps and tight angles!
Please do the whole series on tuning the suspension🙏🏻
Personally, I combine both.
Take the Red pill, for Power
Take the blue pill, for the suspension
Real Enthusiasts take both with a huge sip of good oil‘ liquor
And sweat
@@aegypter1n exactly!
Translation you buy power first and keep convincing yourself you'll buy suspension later
I combine 4 :
Power
Suspensions
Brakes
Tires
Yeah, why improve one component when you can just improve everything(although if there was a budget cap, then each part can only be improved by a small amount
You guys should do commericals like ligit amazing 👏
Learning about cars is always fun. 🤩 me working on my 05 Mazda 6 is a great journey so far
So happy to see Zack in an episode again. Long overdue, I was getting worried.
Would love to see a side by side comparison of suspension vs HP on the track
Petition to make this an actual Hyundai commercial 🎟
So what you're telling me, is that the engineer of shooping cart wheels needs to see this video lol.
Its awesome how these guys work on day to day cars for everyone, not like other youtubers "This is how to TT you Huracan!!" In this channel the guys work on these cars most of their viewers afford and have, i love that!
Damn they convinced me to trade my Sti for a Kona n
I simply refuse to believe that Jeremiah is 6’8.
Edit: Never mind, he absolutely towers over the other guys.
He's actually only 5' tall, everyone else is just ridiculously short.
You can clerly see him next to James in the ad, James has claimed to be 6'3, I think jerry is maybe 6'2 - 6'4 but NOT 6'8! That's Brian shaw's or LeBron's height, no way his tha't tall
@@KANMANDE from this video alone, it seems to me that he is around 6’6-8 for sure lmao
Suspension is very important in drag racing, I knocked off almost a 1/2 second tuning my Suspension.
Go Jimmy! Love you guys!
that hyundai add was hilarious!!! some may find it a bit on the edge of good taste with that ending but i'm certainly not one of those people! This is what addvertisment should be. It kept me entertained while putting the product in the best light possible
Day 6 (i think) of asking an up to speed on the midnight club series
I agree with this statement. Even more so it helped define car culture to a younger audience
ruclips.net/video/1dvXOfMxg6Q/видео.html
There was a past gas on that
Either on the catfish or the Tacos (does high car have adjustable dampers) or one of the other Donut cars it might be interesting to see what happens when you transition from an overdamped to underdamped system.
I'm impressed, at 19:50 the car actually sounds like the Camaro in need for speed 4!
Nice work and explaining.
honestly never cared about cars but then I found Donut. Learning is great and this channel does a great job teaching!
Jerry is the "Jimmy Fallon" of the donut crew in that he can never get through a skit without laughing.
Jimmy Fallon is a joke. Don't insult Jerry like that.
@@Sheridantank was gonna say the same thing lol
