Everything you do is a Balloon is a masterpiece. I spent a lot of time coming down from a trip to Nepal before returning home to Manchester. I felt really alone during that time. This track made me feel like it was okay being this way and that everything (really) is alright.
tout a fait d accord ce morceau est d'une profondeur incroyable, c est un peu comme plonger en apnée , il y a de la magie transcendental dans ce titre everything you do is a ballon , un chef d 'oeuvre , c est vrai !
I really love the subtle visual edits in this mix, such as the black elements appearing one by one in the first few seconds, then fading into the background over time. Then, on the half asleep mix the background color shifts to envelop the art/text elements over time, ending with farewell fire fully enveloped in orange. So thought provoking!
The Boards aren't Christian as well, but I think that was indeed the intended effect, that religion even to an outsider can inspire a strong feeling of human connection and some ephemeral sense of meaning. I don't like the song that much, it reminds too much of the damage that religious indoctrination on the very young can have, and I'm glad it wasn't on the normal release of Geogaddi. But it is an interesting art piece
Some of the "religious" parts like the children saying prayers (Tony Schwartz Records the Sound of Children 1970 Folkways Records) is juxtaposed to references to the Branch Davidians and unsettling Satanic references, especially in Geogaddhi (which is 66 minutes, 6 seconds long), so you are missing the underneath layers that are about being highly skeptical, even horrified by religiousity. I almost feel bad pointing out these things to you, where you've detected the innocent, childlike parts, without realizing disturbing parts. BTW they've also sampled dialog from porn films. BoC is definitely not Christian, although feel free to play it in your local Church group!
They were first introduced to me by a friend in school when I was 14. Still finding so much beauty and freshness in their work at 30. Hearing it it's like being let into the world as if it's all a work of art. Really hoping they've got the inspiration needed for releasing another project sooner or later.
I can't even adequately articulate what their music means to me or what an effect it has had on me today to fall upon this mix, with some music I haven't heard before. "I will get it tattooed" into "From one source all things depend" had me teary-eyed.
Everytime "From one source all things depend" makes me teary and I don't know why, I think it's the innocence and wonder, something so precious about it
first 90 seconds of "everything you do is a baloon" is an epitome of the feeling of nostalgia and unspecified yearning for the past (and childhood), especially for those who were born and lived thru the 80ies. The fragment has the uncannily 80ies vibe to it.
I was born in the late 80s so didn't really experience the 80s, but my childhood in the 90s and early 2000s was filled with like educational/science programs and stuff that all had these same sounds. The teacher would chuck on some old VHS during a rainy day and these sorts of sounds would come on, haha.
Growing up in the 60's and 70's with the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company), I saw and heard many National Filmboard of Canada short films and documentaries. They always had a very specific sound and so much of what BOC created just makes me feel like I'm going backwards in time - and yet forwards at the same time - and it's brilliant. I love these guys.

I feel such wonder and nostalgia and joy listening to this tape and BOC in general. Kiteracer 2 specifically on this tape is just so fantastic to me, one of the most beautiful artworks I've ever experienced.
contrary to what I read in the comment field, Boards of Canada never evokes feeling of nostalgia. For me, it is steel-cut and meticulously engineered images of an exciting future, with strict lines, spacious accommodation, slightly blunt but rational arguments. Very good stuff.
This is one of the best mixes one can ever find, on any era, genre and style..... the atmosphere is fantastic, for a Boards of Canada fun, we here some standards, but then they manage to mingle unknown gems of tracks and a few concrete specials to suit the mood!!!

thanks to whoever uploaded this mix online and made me discover the track called 19:35 Highscores, a beautiful, wonderful track. There is also another Boards of Canada song with this name but it is decidedly different.
Found BoC after grabbing up Meat Beat Manifesto maxi single that they had a remix on. MHTRTC had just come out, so I grabbed it as soon as I saw the cover because of how much it reminded me of when I was little in 1983, and the family photos of my brother and I. It struck a chord that no other music had at that time.
I remember buying MHTRTC in 1998. At first I wasn't overly impressed, just thought it sounded like a minimal version of Black Dog's "Spanners" which came out 3yrs previously. After a few listens & especially ROYGBIV I got it.
isn't it weird how some music doesn't hit you right away?... I chock that up to the difference between mindless pop music which is, generally speaking... a mind-control exercise in IMMEDIATE gratification through tried and true chord progressions and heavy, in your face processing... meant to sell a product and keep you addicted... trouble is, the mindless average music listener will never reach deeper levels of satisfaction from chords and structures which take the subconscious some time to process. I notice stereolab did that to me alot (and there are countless examples). I was lisening to some strfkr album and dude, the processing was absolutely spectacular... but the chord progressions did not click right away... the more i listened the more and more I could finally feel the chord progressions and anticipate them... such a great experience. I will say though, the simple structure and melodies notorious of corporate pop, are still enjoyable styles.. only as long as they come from bands you never heard of :D
Their music evokes a strange sense of nostalgia for the mid-to-late 1970s, the tail end of 20th century techno-optimism. During this era, it still seemed possible that institutionalized social science, medicine, and psychology might rescue the planet's parasites from their own worst tendencies. Not coincidentally, this was also the period during which we discovered and began living among them. Since much confusion about "children" remains, I would like to make clear that this term typically refers to the smaller, less developed meat-things, about which the larger units frequently become sentimental. For what it's worth, I once replaced the lower jaw of one with a mechanical apparatus by the movement of which the small creature might appear to "sing along" with certain tracks. The moisture of its eyes was quite affecting in this context, though the sounds it emitted rather ruined the effect. Lovely mix though...
There seems no beginning or end to these sounds .It guides the senses towards a completeness that is transitory without a loss of freedom and allowing one to stay in the same place but wallowing the mind to comfortably travel as if travel buddies .
Il coule de cette vidéo comme un rêve de fièvre brumeuse de vieilles légendes et de campagnes inachevées. C'est à la fois subtil en arrière-plan et demande de l'attention. Musique translucide

thanks to whoever uploaded this mix online and made me discover the track called 19:35 Highscores, a beautiful, wonderful track.
I also bought MHTR based on the cover alone, knowing nothing about them. Been in love with them ever since. Best lucky choice ever.
Dandelion (reversed) at 18:30 takes you on a journey, beautiful!
I will say though, the simple structure and melodies notorious of corporate pop, are still enjoyable styles.. only as long as they come from bands you never heard of :D
fade out is lovely. Perfect sleepy ending.
This album is a masterpiece of all time.
This is really a dope ass mix. Big props to OP and mad props to YT for recommending this 🖤🥀🖤
Fantastic mix, thanks for putting it together.
Best BOC mix I’ve heard so far👍🏽
Beautiful mix made of dreams, feelings, and wonder. :)
5.9.78 is often used in the wavywebsurf videos.
In The Annexe is really relaxing
Thank you so much, BoC truly has something special.
whitewater melts my head everytime
My BOC journey began '98 after wondering into a FOPP in Glasgow and asking what was being played. The rest is history. Love it.
what's FOPP mean?

I've loved Boards for many years.
Me too
Great post and reminder of how deep, broad, and high BOC was.
Have they stopped creating new music?
I actually loved this album while been playing it during a driving at night.
2022 and I listen to this while I work, I can log in for work and listen to "Hiscores" on a loop and never tire of it.
I first discovered BoC in 2016 and coincidentally at the same time I overcame depression. Their music boosted my healing
Guys we need to stop this channel, this bot is commenting on lots of yt videos

Great selection, been listening a lot while working recently. Thanks :)
Brilliant mix. Just a shame I missed The Half Asleep Mix.
Damn this cover of Echus is perfect!!! ❤
I do so wish that this were officially part of the BOC catalogue. I'd be first at the record store.
PS : Thank you for the upload!
Excellent Electronic music album!
one of the best BOC mix
There will always be new music to be made. Just when you think it's all been done before compositions like those from BOC come along.
wonderful sound journey
I would buy this in a heartbeat.
Musique translucide
hard times. good music.
I will never become bored of listening to BoC. May you live happy, for that I am grateful
Many thanks 🙏! That’s how I fell most times during my day… the problem is that it creates an anxiety state so I get in a loop. I think this will help me.
Thank you for this, such an awesome mix
I have been making music for 25 years. This is pretty rare I find music in this genre that doesn't get too cheesy . This has yet to get cheesyily new agey , so refreshing, inspirational sublime. Thanks
the sophisticated way BoC flashes back memories of analog era broadcasts' aural quality is such good company for creative work
Thank you so much Gabriel, this is gold !
Omg this mix is absolutely perfect!!!! Thank you!
