The first song i heard from Aphex Twin was - Window Licker, on Rage ( ABC Channel years ago) I missed the song title, loved the song and had it stuck in my mind for 2+ years, wondering and wanting to know what it was. Taping Rage for 7+ hours and waking up in the morning and going through it all was a great experience! The next song i heard was Come to daddy, and that was it. Those 2 songs blew me away as much as that old lady got screamed in the face by that creature lol. Then i discovered his genius nuianced music and was astonished that i had found something that could invoke such great emotions.
It's rare to find a band or artist that you find yourself agreeing with so much from their music, because it has to connect or speak to you in some deep meaningful way that you're probably not even aware of about yourself. You can learn things about yourself by seeing what moves you, and RDJ moves me a lot.
DrukQs would be one of my favorites, and a few other songs but mainly that whole album.
Update: Syro is my favorite now then Analord, hadn't heard those when i wrote this :)

Now Im kinda appreciatting this artist a lot more than just the bizarre videoclips... I just turned 39

I remember when I started diving into everything. It's overwhelming. I stay with trance, house, acid, idm, breakbeats, break core, drill and bass. It just goes on and on. Psy trance is really cool too you should dive into Infected Mushroom. For cool laid back lounge house check out 16B's "How to live 100 years".

I recorded this into Pro Tools to work out what was happening. The amazing innovation [Edit September 2021: by 'innovation' I don't mean it's never been done before, I just mean 'cool element'] in this track is that the main acid loop that comes in at 0:30 is a nine sixteenths loop - i.e. rather than running for the standard 2 beats (eight sixteenths), it adds an extra sixteenth. This is the main driver of the glorious disorientation of this track. The beauty of the start is how the orderly metre of the pads comes to be dominated by the off-kilter acid loop when it enters, but the acid loop in turn is dominated by the drum loop. There's more to say about the rest of the track, but you get the gist.
Edit August 2021: In the replies below, Audio Maverick asked this question: What are you talking about? Is the loop an extra 1/16th longer than the other loops? Do you mean the loop itself is longer in duration or has an extra 16th crammed with in it like a polyrhythm?
Here is my reply - I think it adds to my original comment: Yes, the acid loop is 1/16th longer than the other loops (in real time). And importantly, the 16ths in the acid loop are the same length of time as the 16ths from the rest of the track. The notes in the acid loop come on the following steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6-7, 8-9 (the 6-7 and 8-9 notes are tied). But the really cool thing is that when the acid loop first comes in, the brain doesn't register it as being a 9/16ths loop as such, but as a normal 8/16ths loop. We tap our foot once at the start of the loop and again in the middle of the loop, but, the second tap falls between the 5th and 6th step. Sooo... In this sense, the loop also has an extra 16th crammed into it. Both perspectives are correct. How fucking damn cool is that?
... The success of this comment is rapidly turning into the highlight of my life. It's up there with the time I won the costume contest at a screening of the Big Lebowski - as decided by audience applause - when I dressed up as Marty when he was performing his dance quintet.

I won't forget the first time I played this. I had just finished my last year of school, was home with my family.
On a lovely bright morning, I awoke... I made my mother and myself a coffee, and offered to put on some music. She smiled and said go ahead.
I opened youtube on my phone and saw this at the top. The cover art intrigued me -- reminded me of those old VHS tapes I watched as a kid, in the same family home all those years ago. I played it on the speakers, and the first track really spoke to us as we sipped our coffee.
We didn't say anything; we just smiled. How nostalgic those days are ..

Nah sorry don't believe this tale. Just has a whiff of bullshit about it; you put on amazing beautiful music, probably unlike anything she's ever heard before, and she never said "What's this?"
It reads like a short creative writing task with you asked to describe a personal memory which evokes emotion.
"She smiled and said go ahead", come on, you're laying it on a bit thick there. "I awoke". OK.
If you watched 'old VHS tapes as a kid' then streaming RUclips music on your phone was not a thing when you finished school.
This particular EP only came out in 2017 so the timeline is impossible. Sorry :/

I hope someone reads this. I discovered Aphex Twin's music randomly through this EP, clicked on the video because the cover looked cool. I've been listening to this now for about a year. I still haven't listened to any other projects of his to completion, because it's difficult for me to do that with any artist. I have listened to about half of Drukqs and something around 3 songs from each of his albums/EPs. When I set my mind to listen to an album all the way through, it feels like a chore and I procrastinate, even though I know the album is good. But that's not my point. Some song of his popped up in my recommended page and I listened to it, then autoplay put me here unexpectedly. It's been some time since I don't listen to this EP, so I let it play and got to read the comments. Seeing them gave me some weird feeling, because they're all engrained in my memory from having read them tens of times. I took so long to type all this that I forgot a bit about the feeling :) but it was comforting, and now, while the last track plays, it feels more nihilistic. Do you have some feeling about revisiting an old, familiar, comment section?

    • @Kumodatsu
      @Kumodatsu 29 дней назад

Hey, I can relate to this a lot. I've known about Aphex Twin and some other artists for quite a while, always wanted to listen to more of their work, but rarely actually get around to doing it. Mostly because I usually find myself in the mood for specific music that I already know, so it takes a while before I get myself to listen to new songs and albums, even when I'm pretty sure that I would love it. I've seen this video in the recommendations for a while now and only today decided to give it a listen, and I'm very happy I did. Reading your comment made me realize I should be doing this more often. There's a lot still to discover. ^_^
And yes, sometimes coming back to a video after a while and seeing familiar comments gives me a kind of warm, nostalgic feeling. But there is also something inspiring about when I first watch/listen to a new video/song on here, and find sentiments in the comment that make complete sense to me even when I haven't had any prior experiences with the video/song myself.

The first version of sci-fi staircase really strikes a chord in me compared to the other, even though they have the same instrumentation, rhythms and patterns... After they fall to the ground and decompose they are still happy together, desiccated by worms and bugs and car tires their joy lives on through the shadow they cast through the fall. It just randomly appeared on my suggestions and now I finish the day listening this with this composition on instant repeat. Very cosmic, quite depressive and cold, yet so full of impulse and passion like our heartbeats

I saw both these guys twice in the same week, Big Day Out and The Prince Of Wales Hotel. First gig was them onstage together as a unit, the second was Luke opening for AFX

when he dropped this somewhere at the beginning of his BKS set, it kinda caught me off guard to play such a calm tune at during a set, but after a while I realised this is going to be the part I'm going to remember most fondly in years to come

I cant speak on this in any musically informed way, but i can say that this one's something special. Ive been diggin this track since i found it a year or two ago and every time i listen to it, i further appreciate something in it which i dont quite understand.
RDJ, my friend, you will likely never read this, but thank you dearly and with the utmost sincerity. This one takes me on a ride every time.

You know, sometimes, at the right moment, Aphex's music makes me feel like I want to cry. My sadness about the general plight of humanity is usually quite strongly repressed (sensitive people are taught by society at a young age that their sensitivity is weakness or failure, which is a misconception), but Aphex brings it all out in a very special way.

I feel the same way. There is some sorrow in his music that I can relate.

"Let everything that’s been planned come true. Let them believe. And let them have a laugh at their passions. Because what they call passion actually is not some emotional energy, but just the friction between their souls and the outside world. And most important, let them believe in themselves. Let them be helpless like children, because weakness is a great thing, and strength is nothing. When a man is just born, he is weak and flexible. When he dies, he is hard and insensitive. When a tree is growing, it’s tender and pliant. But when it’s dry and hard, it dies. Hardness and strength are death’s companions. Pliancy and weakness are expressions of the freshness of being. Because what has hardened will never win." - Stalker (Andrei Tarkovsky)
