Hello, I am the mod author of TBH - Compressed Ores. The video was a fantastic show case and my jaw dropped after I realized that my mod was included! Keep up the great work :)
For hand drilling I absolutely love the "Automatic Ore Pickup" mod. No need to chase bits of ore around to pick it up it just goes straight into your inventory. For ship mining I've always like the "Tiered Tech Blocks" mod which adds enhanced, proficient and elite versions of many of the blocks including drills, grinders, welders, refineries, assemblers, thrusters et al. They require special components to build that you used to only get from looting unknown signals and sometimes finding for sale at stations but they've added a second mod called "Tech Blocks Everywhere" that allows you to craft them instead.
Tiered Tech Blocks are absolutely insane. Reminds me of a time in which i soft locked myself from my base by enabling an elite welder too close to the medbay.
I used the resource nodes mod in my Agaris run because of how it worked well with the static resource locations. Setting up a base, getting it running, and keeping it defended were great 'strategic gameplay' additions in my opinion. It also makes setting up automated resource pick up and drop off drones viable if you have the fuel capacity (which with water>hydrogen you can easily do.)
That resource node mod looks game-changing. It's now worth setting up bases rather than running around nomad style. Really well balanced and a refreshing way to play the game. Edit: it turns any planet into Agaris, basically. Gah, mind-blowing
You actually changed the time of day so we could see what you were doing/talking about. Thank you so much. Some reviewers seem to forget they exist and just let it set in pitch black
Build and repair has a mining version called drill and fill. A bit overpowered, although not cheap. It can mine a specific ore though which is nice, and fill in voxel damage
i've been playing on a small server for a bit, and our faction loved miners, like the first ship we did was an ion powered small grid miner which was used to hollow out an asteroid, it was wide, had close to none storage and excessive gyros and spotlights, we called it the skittle because of it's coloring and shape, then i've designed a drill-like miner which was just a large grid stick with large cargo containers, hydrogen systems, and everything else packed with small cargo, after losing it to orks along with our donut base, we had a few different miners even one or two from the workshop, but i wanted something heavy duty so i made the evolution of the stick - the shlong, it had 3 large cargo containers and just a lot of everything needed for mining along with minor defences
Cheers for the video. I really need to pull up my sleeves and get my head into Space Engineers modding. Always wanted to build upon the Ecocomy style in Space Engineers: build up rep with different factions to get better and better blocks: going from base game stuff, to the static mining right up to the big boy versions like the Heavy Mining Drill. Cheers, again for the video, got me thinking ^_^
@Shack, have you tried the tiered tech mod. It lets you build better functional blocks if you got more resources. It was made back when uranium was on planets so 2nd tier tech needs it and 3rd tier tech needs platinum . 1st tier needs gold and silver. So these days most people skip tier 2. Want a better range ore detector? Build a higher tech one. Tech 1 is double vanilla, tech 2 is double tech 1, etc... also double ingredients and weight
I can't believe MexPex's enormous drill head still works, unchanged, 6 years later. Space Engineers from six years ago is almost unrecognizable compared to the game today.
Resource nodes are a great tool, good for "infinite" ore, but they have 2 massive drawbacks - 1) the sound will drive you nuts after a while, and 2) they shake the whole base like a regular drill shakes the ship. Got a couple saves that use these for massive underground bases on hostile planets. Also, those drills will mine stone if you drop them in stone. I'm glad that you mentioned the the Nanobot Drill and Fill System and the Nanobot Build and Repair System. I use those religiously in every game I play, just makes life so much easier.
The static drills are so nice, set up some very small outposts with them on asteroids and just get some pure ore to go pick up here and there. (Especially rarer resources like platinum or uranium)
I remember having mod called Deep Ores few years ago, it replaced vanilla deposits with HUGE chunks of ore, but hidden deep under ground, up to 1 km for rare elements like gold. I liked it very much, but later something happend and mod stopped working. At least, there was a bug with missing ore veins on the surface, so I could not even see where I should be diggin. If anyone knows is this fixed now, or maybe if there are new mods doing similar things, please tell me. Thanks in advance
The double ports on the Advanced Static Drill are for Speed or Power Efficiency modules. Also, the Resource Node mod needs the drills to be just inside the voxel you want to mine, so you need to excavate to a given ore deposit if you want to use a drill on it. They also have to be a decent distance apart or they start slowing each other down, so you can't just stack 50 next to each other.
I enjoyed the ore chutes mod, adds a bunch of trenches you can build that lets you have ores roll down to a collection area. Not entirely practical in SE but it's still a cool idea. It even has a rollcage you can hop in and roll down the trenches
The Radio Spectrometry MOD is what they should have done with Space Engineers when they removed the surface information from the voxels to indicate underground ores. If it had worked on planets (which it doesn't) with a limited range, it could be the perfect partner to the Deep Ores MOD and make it less of just drilling for luck.
I basically used the ore scanning script(can't remember name) for planets, and Radio Spectrometry mod for space. My biggest gripe was waiting for the list to scroll, but I think larger monitors helped get around that. I remember using screen/monitor mods specifically for this, and placing them so I could see them from the cockpit or the camera next to the ore scanner. I used Deep Ores very little since I could no longer scan for all the ores from the surface. I don't know if the ore scanner's range still has a hard-coded limit anymore, but I just couldn't deal with the monotony of drilling like that.
One thing I really love about the node mining mod is that instead of focusing on building drill shops, I instead focus on logistics ships to move resources around (And having to give them combat escorts in dangerous areas!).
This is the way. I built this back in 2018 I believe, it used to be a very long ship, and I ended up merging two of them, and making it a fully automated facility that was mobile. Auto nanite repair keeps it going indefinitely.
AutominerV1 came out a few months before Nanobot Drill and Fill, they mine in the same manner but yet I've never heard of AutominerV1 or V2 until now. Autominer V2 seems to have a bunch of built in restrictions where as Drill and Fill you have to add in restriction yourself through the INI file. Seeing as Autominer is station only I think Nanobot Drill and Fill should have been mentioned right next to it considering everybody I know from the extended Xebon Twitch community plays with it and its sister mod Nanobot Build and Repair most of the time. Personally the best thing about these method of drilling while still removing the voxels stopping unlimited resources is that you can move the mining field under the surface to you don't leave gaping holes when you are using rovers or just hate seeing gaping holes everywhere. Another one that could have been mentioned specially since you mentioned EVE is the Autotmated Beam Drill. It is modeled after the EVE Online strip miners and while it is a very old mod it is still updated.
My favorite "autominer" was some sort of nano miner, it's been a few years cause I've lost interest in SE but it supposedly used nanites to mine with. What I liked about it was that you could control the shape of the holes it dug, so if you had the patience you could very precisely dig out perfectly square tunnels, then tinker with it and make perectly square rooms etc. I can't remember the name of it though.
Laser mining drill is also a very nice one. That mod even comes with a turret to smack on top of the laser drill block. Since it's a laser it's not actually a drill but works sort of as a drill. Check it out, I think it's cool and would've fit right in in this collection video! Anyways, nice collection & good video! 🙂👍
I notice you dont talk about the 'Industrial Overhaul' Mod? or did I miss it? I really like it but it has some issues. One is that basically just adds more compexity without purpose for the most part. But it also adds variation (like Oil vs Hydrogen vs Gasoline - which is really nice for vehicles - vs nuclear, etc). and it does not play well with other popular mods. Like the deep ore one. I think I got that to work just once with the Ind Overhaul. One Good thing I like about it is that it spreads the Ores out, instead of clumping them into predictable batches.
A mod like "building hints" or so would probably help with visualising the drilling sphere (one of the overlays shows exactly the "Drill" and "Excavate" Sphere for any block). You also ma wanna look into the "Build Vision v3" mod which makes controlling blocks from outside so much easier.
Along with the other comment I made about Ores and such. In your travels thru Mod land have you run across any mod or settings files that allow u to control when and where ore deposits are? The one combination of feature I would really like I cant find. 1) Ores in more Realistic settings. Geology is a thing and by looking at how the land is laid out should give ideas where to find certain ores (ie., Iron in the side of hills and gold at the base of mountains or rivers. and so on). 2) varying deposit sizes and ore veining. (Ie., gold in very small pockets, silver in small thin veins that require mining 100 rock to get 1 silver, etc) 3) Ore without Exact location Icons? (Ie, can see surface indiators but to actually find the depth and placement u have to drill.) It would also be nice to find ores in regions. OR grouped together but not like right next to each other. I would like to know that if I find ore in one spot I could be sure others are around and not just completly random. IE., ore regions and regions without ore.
I think there's some articles related to the Deep Ore mod about just this. I haven't played in ages now, so I haven't read anything about it recently. If I recall correctly, it was the mod author talking about it, but I don't remember what they said. Might wanna browse around the mod page.
@@armastat No problem. Hope whatever I think I remember is still there. Thea are sound suggestions for the game, tho. Who knows what all they’ll add eventually. Wish I’d dive into modding myself; I’d loose some hair, but finally get to see some ideas become reality.
For Deep Ores you gotta keep in mind the range of ore scanners. I haven't played in a long time now, so I don't know if limits have changed, but I always had to make a large grid vehicle to even be able to scan deep enough to find the ores(And if I remember correctly, that's still not enough range for the rarest ores). Other than that, I guess you could just drill till you find it; unless you use another mod to scan with.
As someone who loves mining in Elite Dangerous these mods are actually making me think about taking on SE again even though my laptop is not the best for it and the game is curently not working on the steam deck.
Aah reminds me of the old mining ships I have made back when things were simple. Gravity funnel, hot knife, tunnel snake (even had a rotating drill with drills to make near perfectly round tunnels). OH, almost forgot the set and forget drones that would bore a hole through the asteroid and then stop just outside the hole once it popped out for easier collection.
shack used about 40 of those advanced static drills on my server in the middle of mars while messing with the mod with a few members of my discord and we all swear we are trying to summon a dam worm (the giant ones from DUNE )
I’d prefer if the auto miner options for SE used some kind of ammunition, and were much more high tier materials. As I like the idea of working up to it, and then thematically it having to use something to get something…
13:40 if only melting ice and maybe creatihng gas too would be part of the game, essentially ice mining could be a matter of melting it with heat and sucking up the droplets.
I like the Ressource Nodes Mod but you cannot use it on ores that are deeper than 20-25m I think or else it just mine stones. So if you are using a mod that makes the ore rarer it usually makes it deeper you still need to dig to the ore and then place the static drills on it for it to work.
They're just finicky on their direction of facing; being offset slightly due to planet curvature can mess you up. They can mine up to 125m from contact with voxels I believe.
Talking about mining I'm surprised you didn't bring up the nanite control factory and its ability to mine voxels and specific resources from a large area at the cost of lost of resources and power
is there a mod for just transporting resources great distances? like a teleporter that takes everything from 1 grid to the other but requires more power the longer the distance
im still using giant mining lazers and their turret. just park your ship (or movable home base in my case) near and asteroid and work on something else while the asteroid just gets eaten. passive mining is an absolute must for singleplayer I think.
2nd mod is really good i loved it, you can dig a capital ship size hangar into the ground in 5mins. I do enjoy that mod forgot the exact name but something like more ores It adds ores that are a mix of ores And they have thier specific names Its very cool to find ore that is a mix of uranium and cobalt or like silicon with nicel combination its very cool
Oh yea, I'll be using most of these for a vs run me and my friend will be doing soon. I'm also going to include the industrial overhaul mod for increased complexity.
I'd be curious to see what kind of server load some of those autominers cause in numbers. Seems like no matter how awesome a mod is, if servers can't handle it, it doesn't mean much. Sure wish Keen would do a more technically sound sequel to SE or something so it could actually handle some of the great inventions players make.
A good substitute to camera panning is recon camera as it gives more range. Now I say substitute as if you run both of them together it'll be really hard to control. You also can not run recon camera with weapon core as WC bakes camera panning in. Personally I don't like WC in general, a side the point.
Although not a mod (script) I use Spug's Easy Auto-Docking 2 with my flying miners. Poor visibility with large grids and easy to damage bits with small, this script with the Auto-refill one, makes connecting up easier and making sure your craft has fuel and electricity to fly.
I have seen this episode so many times. I have started a deep or run. I plan to use the drill and fill only to displace the stone i do not use. Their is a plan to make a sky base up in the air. Drill and fill needs voxles to build. Start from the ground am to the stars. Dig with first mod and digging deep for ores.
They really need to fix the Grinders in vanilla. it's stupid that the tier 3 hand grinders cut faster than the large ship Grinders do. So basically Nerf the hand grinders and ramp up the ship grinders. I really don't know why it hasn't been done already.
The camera panning is a basic function of a camera that should be in the game by default. That and colored icons. Not sure who on the Dev team suggested monotone blue colors for every inventory item, but they should be fired
when it comes to mining, ore detectors are a big deal... again not many mods that ive seen or used... currently Vas's ore detectors is my favorite, and it give tech levels or tiers if you prefer... also noticed you did not list the drill and fill mod for mining... which mirrors nicely with build and repair.... the compressor though is a nice touch mod wise... i will likely try the northwind heavy equipment though....
Hey dude. Love these videos. I’m crazy and I’m looking for mods to make my survival experience the hardest possible. Harsher Gravity Scrap Mod (no reusing components) Deep Ore More power usage/Consumption I turn production and refinement times the slowest Inventory the smallest Honestly anything that makes the game harder. I like the moisture farmer mod -- sure, it's free ice from the atmosphere, for a little power, but it makes sense to me.
Perfect for a game based on Pertam
Agreed
You could use it for power if it collects enough ice for little energy and use hydrogen engines

Better Stone is a great mod for the mining enthusiast. Also Tiered Ship Tools by NukeGuard is very cool.
The main thing for better stone is that it limits what planets you can use because not every planet is better stone compatible
One thing with the Autominer V2, they have 3 speeds, Normal, High and Max. Power usage does change a lot between each speed.

I do enjoy that mod forgot the exact name but something like more ores
It adds ores that are a mix of ores
And they have thier specific names
Its very cool to find ore that is a mix of uranium and cobalt or like silicon with nicel combination its very cool
Are these kinds of mods availabe on consolse... Specifically playstation 4
Have a good day Captain.
Imagine slapping 8 of those wireless automoners on a mobile hauler.
Drive, park, go to the next vein.
A good substitute to camera panning is recon camera as it gives more range. Now I say substitute as if you run both of them together it'll be really hard to control. You also can not run recon camera with weapon core as WC bakes camera panning in. Personally I don't like WC in general, a side the point.
i LOVE space engineers my only gripe is how unplayable public servers are and the lack of real life friends that play to enjoy the game with.
FYI, for most mods that cause parts to be invisible after reload. Just repaint it and you're good to go. \o/
can we get a link for that mining ship?
Although not a mod (script) I use Spug's Easy Auto-Docking 2 with my flying miners. Poor visibility with large grids and easy to damage bits with small, this script with the Auto-refill one, makes connecting up easier and making sure your craft has fuel and electricity to fly.
I have seen this episode so many times. I have started a deep or run. I plan to use the drill and fill only to displace the stone i do not use. Their is a plan to make a sky base up in the air. Drill and fill needs voxles to build. Start from the ground am to the stars. Dig with first mod and digging deep for ores.
"Bagger" is actually a german word for "excavator" and its pronounced more like bugger (from bugging) and not like badger
Or bugger from buggering? 😂😂
@@eno88 you just made me spit out my coffee 😂😂
Just as it is in Dutch
The Eve geek in me would like to add they have added Compression to orca's now :)
100% no 2 is the best drill. Excellent at excavation also!
Resource node doesnt ignore stone btw Captain Shack-Man... Theyd be great on.......HAVEN! Lol
What happend at 10:44
ba sing mod is interesting because alot of the time people just go to nanobot builders because of the range issue with vanilla stuff :-)
The static drills i cant find on xbox
They really need to fix the Grinders in vanilla. it's stupid that the tier 3 hand grinders cut faster than the large ship Grinders do. So basically Nerf the hand grinders and ramp up the ship grinders. I really don't know why it hasn't been done already.
One thing with the drill that does the ice and gravel is to check the production tab
The camera panning is a basic function of a camera that should be in the game by default.
That and colored icons. Not sure who on the Dev team suggested monotone blue colors for every inventory item, but they should be fired
some mod blocks disappear. the way you can make them re-appear without grinding them down is to go outside of view distance and come back.
Wth is that image of between 8:23 and 8:24?
Same thing happens at 10:44
When you first showed the mexpex drill I thought it was using the small grid
when it comes to mining, ore detectors are a big deal... again not many mods that ive seen or used... currently Vas's ore detectors is my favorite, and it give tech levels or tiers if you prefer... also noticed you did not list the drill and fill mod for mining... which mirrors nicely with build and repair.... the compressor though is a nice touch mod wise... i will likely try the northwind heavy equipment though....
Time stamps would be sooo useful. Otherwise great video :D
I want a mining laser! It seems a hopeless task, but I am going to try to learn to mod just so I can finally turn that doom laser into a mining tool.
Not a mod, but I do like the Connector Ejection script by JetDave_2nd that allows you to dispense with sorters on your mining ships and rigs.
Hey dude. Love these videos.
I’m crazy and I’m looking for mods to make my survival experience the hardest possible.
Harsher Gravity
Scrap Mod (no reusing components)
Deep Ore
More power usage/Consumption
I turn production and refinement times the slowest
Inventory the smallest
Honestly anything that makes the game harder.
Please please please could you make a video of the hardest mods for beast players?
Are any of these available for Xbox?
I personally prefer the tiered ship tools more expensive variety
You forgot one that I believe to be the best auto mine system is the Nanobot Drill and Fill system
