This is THE BEST space engineers video I've ever watched. Just screams quality. Widely informational, detailed and quite entertaining to watch at the same time. Explanations are extremely clear and yet not over-simplified. Just right on the spot. And the editing is over the top. All the cuts and transitions are right where they are supposed to be and all little details and "cinematic cutscenes" are just perfect *chef kiss* It's very sad that such topic is not widely popular on RUclips, with the amount of effort this video probably has taken to make you sir deserve a bigger audience.
KITT thanks a lot I appreciate the comment! I kinda dug my own grave after I made the intro lol, the bar was set and I can't come down. Ep. 2 is more entertaining IMO, what's finished of it that is. Too bad it's a niche game but it's still my favorite
my guy, you are a literal genius: you've streamlined and updated possibly the most cohesive and applicable method for mechs into something even better. that is true innovation. Like the engineer from tf2, while more gun is a solution i've seen you use, like the engineer you also use your absolutely gigantic brain to find solutions to problems that lay in plain sight. It's absolutely clear your main strategy is Improvise. adapt. overcome. thank you black armor, for getting me into automation in SE.
@@BlackArmor718 my proudest creation so far is the sevastopol: a 219m long rolling fortress with 3 custom turrets and a full base inside. it's still nowhere near as impressive as even the smallest of your mechs due to the sheer complexity you employ
I came into this not really expecting to even attempt to build a mech, I thought it would be too complicated but you absolutely nailed it with this guide. Explanations are as streamlined as they can be and and you even gave good tips for the design itself. Absolutely fantastic work , nothing else to say except bravo!
I didn't even come here with an expectation that I'd want to build a walker, I just stayed because of how well organized and voiced the video was and appreciated the production value. Quality video, quality world, thank you for your dedication to the modding community.
The opening to this is exceptional dude, definitely demonstrates you know what you're talking about and also is badass enough to hook anyone watching; "I wanna drive one of those!"
I had a chuckle when you mentioned inspiration. I realized I started playing space engineers when I saw your video with the vengeance bomber that got me interested in space engineers but the centurion battle mech made me download and start. I gave up hope rather quick because i couldmt even make a blocky ship fly. My first mech was a small backward knee biped that took me hours to make and barely worked because i over compensated everything on rotor settings. I had to spend almost a full day studying your mech tutorial world to understand since i kept trying to rush or make massive mechs. A few mechs later your titam jaeger came out and thats when I decided to make striker eureka from pacific rim. Ever since then ive made almost exclusively walkers In my worlds and ive made several jaegers. There have been times where I quit because they arent good for survival or i have no one to admire them but I constantly challenge myself to make bigger and better creations because i see your videos and it inspires me to keep building. I am so glad to have found your channel and hope to get better with every build. Side note: my biggest mech so far is 160 (400m i believe?) large grid blocks tall and based on the mech from avatar legend of kora
Wow this is awesome to hear! The vengeance video was the first one I used music in. That was quite a while ago. I’m glad you never gave up on building mechs, it’s a great way to learn the hard stuff. Keep it up
14:00 that tip is one of the best yet! I never thought about doing that mirror imaging. You sir have just saved me loads of time! Thankyou once again! Great videos!
Omg i wanted to learn how to make fluent mech walking so bad! Can't wait for the next video to see the technical issues that goes into it. i really Appreciate someone finally explaining how mechs work and how to make one funtion in such away. Wish more content creators teach this
I just found this game like 2 weeks ago and let my imagination run wild. So at the base that I finally built my most basic machine is still somewhat complex lol to get material fast but have a base at the bottom of a mountain pretty much shaped in my giant funnel. Then there's a catapult that literally launches me halfway up the mountain and the ark of flight the technically a y-axis velocity of zero and so it took a few tries but I finally got it placed correctly to where my speed of flying up this mountain without a jetpack will not kill me. then I can just build drills up there and have it shoot the rocks a little sloping up dug out that goes to the final itself which isn't hard to do since it only has to fall straight down pretty much I'm just let it go and it does all the work. There's a bunch of crazy little contractions you can make. I have done their 3D printer idea but I also put a little floor on there so if I need the parts from that vehicle I can just drive it on there and then drop it into a grinding unit machine to get on my parts back. Now to do this without killing me is that I put it on a floor that slides
Wish I saw this before I started making my mad cats. This just happened to pop up while I was editing my channel.. I was never able to download your world on Xbox so I had to figured it all out on my own but these new videos are extremely helpful and I might be able to make some adjustments. Nice to finally see you're working examples with commentary/context/instructions
I'm really also looking to compare, contrast or upgrade, in any sense. My first 2 mad cat/timber wolfs are basically in weapons testing but over all functioning. I've been transferring clips to be edited and uploaded recently so my SE playlist is empty right now. I'd ask for any kind of input or criticism if I ever get more recent clips transferred.. but I'm also trying to work out an actual mad cat leg rotation at the moment. If you don't mind a mention or a shout out, when the time comes, please let me know. Definitely looking forward to your next tutorial
even with how stiff and wonkey they are its still so awesome that we can just slap together walkers by manually figuring out how to use the games physics and pistons, so cool.
If Blackarmor can't make feet work without breaking away, that means it is impossible to make them. Also, I've waited on this video for a long time. King is back :)
This is a very in detail tutorial and you did a great job leaving in a whole whallop of naunced information that most people wouldn't or couldn't bother explaining. The animation background in the back of my mind does nag at me wishing you would mention more about the complexity of walk cycles and the entire concept of any shape of grid's center of mass. which I will admit is probably not suitable for a first episode, but it definitely makes me look forward to your next episode. Keep up the good work BA. B)
things evolved a lot from when i first tried (2014), lol... :) There were no timers, no command blocks no sheet... just using the rotor strength options and gyros to "move" the legs that clamped and declamped using the "detach strength"... it was a mess :D and of course they worked only in space on the platforms :) You did a way better job then i did back then dude :)
I'm know I'm atleast a few minutes late, but how did your friend make that indestructible block, and is there a large grid version? Or do you already have one on one of your uploads?
I'd like to see you build a walker that uses in-line walking motion, but can use sweeping motion for strafing, turning, etc, like a more realistic hip. Ideally a biped or quadruped design
Lovely video. Seeing this I would like to try out recreating some of the mechs from the Front Mission manga (and game). Lots of kickass designs that scream carnage
Oh, regarding leg design, I actually know of two mechs in science fiction that use bipedal swing legs The first one is the Castaferrum-pattern Dreadnought from Warhammer 40,000. You know, the boxy, stout one that everyone thinks of when you say "space marine dreadnought". The second is the Granite Grinder from LEGO Rock Raiders. One shared design element with these two mechs is that they have very large, wide feet.

Tv shows about robots made in real world applications don’t go this in depth with this quality. Very nice 👍
I am slightly obsessed with that intro, the editing with the rhythm is absolute perfection. I would watch a full music video in that style.
