      @@watchartsci Hi, Bill. I just saw this ruclips.net/video/nFMC6LVjHoE/видео.html about a JLC minute repeater. Wow! Who made THAT? Is there a single hidden genius or was it a cast of thousands?
      All the best, Jeremy

    Thanks for another informative video Bill. I must admit that I’d never heard of Wiederrecht but his work is ingenious. I doubt I’ll ever own an example of his work but am grateful that you’ve taken the time to explore his work with your viewers. Thanks Bill.

    • @watchartsci

      Hi Jeffrey, I felt the same way, but I'm going to keep looking for watches with affordable modules with Agenhor/Wiederrecht in them like my Harry Winston Premiere Bi-Retrograde that I didn't know about the Agenhor retrograde module until after I bought it. My biggest surprise was Agenhor's work with both Hermes and Parmigiani Fleurier. It's like an Easter egg hunt! Cheers, Bill

    Dear Bill, Great content. The behind the scenes specialists like Agenhor and Mr. Wiederrecht have a profound impact on horology. In this vein, there are a whole host of specialists worth highlighting, some of which companies are in turn owned in whole or in part by renowned watchmakers like Journe and Voutilainen. As an example, Paul Gerber is an AHCI member and has his own small line of watches. But in meandering on the web, I keep running across his name as a consultant who has had his hands in the development of many watches. This would all be fodder for other videos. Finally, if my wife has a Lovers Bridge watch, she could probably not get it off my wrist. What a cool complication! Cheers.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  5 лет назад

      Thank you Howard! Yes, we can find some first rate watches with complications or modules by watchmakers whose own watches bring in 10s of thousands of dollars! I totally understand the attraction of the Lovers Bridge. I think that women's watches have more interesting and innovative complications than men's. Cheers, Bill

  • @nssomething8370
    @nssomething8370 5 лет назад +2

    Great video Bill. In the age of "in house is all that matters", very few people pay attention to the individual watchmakers that are often brought in to develop modules or whole movements.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, NSsomething, in-house vs. not-in-house is an over-simplification. Orient Watches have in-house movements that aren't very good [or expensive...] and while the buyer gets his money's worth with Orient, on the more expensive watches with cheap movements, they do not. We've come to think "In-house = good" rather than the more important query, "what's interesting about the movement?" or "what is the quality and craftsmanship of the movement?" Cheers, Bill

      Growing up I remember my grandmother's Singer with the foot-pedal power source! For our own heroic efforts at cobbling together watches from existing movements, cases, dials and hands, there may be a lesson here ... the only thing we lack, Bill, is craftsmanship and talent. Cheers, Bill

    Good job Bill - very interesting, really enjoyed it. Wearing my Toric chrongraph - an early Parmigiani using the el Primero movement before he had his own chrono, so maybe pre-dating the Vaucher acquisition?

    With the Faberge watch, you have to look directly at the watch to see the GMT time. So, someone next to you will not likely be able to see it, due to the angle and the way the GMT is displayed. Very surprised you did not mention the very cool Van Cleef & Arpels Double - Jumping Hour Retrograde minutes dual time watch, since that is one of the few complete watches where Agenhor did the entire movement - not just the complication.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  5 лет назад +1

      Southnc63...I only listed the winning watches that Agenhor listed ... Arpels has won with movements by Christiaan van der Klaauw and other watchmakers, you know... Cheers, Bill

    Does a Fiona Kruger buy a minimum run of movements from Weiderrecht or buy one movement at a time as orders come in? I imagine he charges a design fee and then some amount to make the movements and assemble (guessing he does that too) to fit a case he may or may not make.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  5 лет назад

      Hey Forbin, how would I know? They work out some kind of deal that works for them both. At $26k a pop for a titanium watch, I'm guessing most of the dough went to movement design and development. I hope the same movement can be used in future watches by FK with a more conventional design, but the Entropy design has been growing on me... Cheers, Bill

      Hey Decon, this is not for the faint at heart. It's for serious collectors and not flippers or those who measure their watch's value by how much they can resell it for. It's for guys like us! Cheers, Bill

      Faint of heart meaning,don't have money.
      Serious collector meaning,have money.
      Gambaling with a lot of money is a rich thing.Not knowing if you can get your hard earned time piece fixed When it needs,i guees that's a risk the middle class doesnt want to take.Rich people have more room to gamble.Flipping is for people who need money Ie the middle class.I get it.Thanks for the video.Its nice knowing that these time pieces are around.Thanks for showing them to us,the horology lovers.Cheers
