just got a 2009 MT-10 from a 79-year-old. 6,000 mi, garage kept, 9,400. he had it on cycle trader for 65 days. amazing upgrade from my 2007 vistrom 1000. The power is unreal and it feels so much faster without fairings or a proper windshield. 140 plus mile an hour wind to the face and body makes the bike feel more than enough. I still want to get an exhaust and flash though. 1500 bucks can get this bike from 135 wheel horsepower up into the low 150s.

As a current 2022 Tuono V4 owner I have to say, don't underestimate the MT10. The Tuono is my first Italian bike and it may be my last. That said, heres some thoughts. The Tuono is the best handling bike I've ever been on and it sounds amazing. It's totally ridable and can be riden smoothly without feeling like it's going to take off without you. Touring mode works great and doesnt limit the max power, its been dyno proven. All my prior bikes have been Japanese and im going back. Here's why... reliability. The Tuono is about to return to the dealer for the sixth time in only six months. The MT10 is going to be way more reliable and I'm planning to trade the Tuono for an MT10.

I feared this about Italian bikes, or almost any euro bike. I have an old 04 FZ1 and when it finally dies I’ll need a replacement. The Tuono is a little tempting. I’ve always wanted to ride a v4, but it doesn’t have much for saddle bags. I’ll probably end up with another Japanese bike, or maybe a bmw 1000XR

Love this bike! I had an FZ1 Gen 2. These things bring out the idiot in you if you don’t control yourself. My FZ1 had no rider aids. Needless to say I broke the rear end lose in corners and hit wheelies quite often without trying. I use to get about 180 miles out of the tank. I switched to a KTM 790 adventure and while it’s not as spirited it’s still plenty fast and I get almost 300 miles out of a tank.

Had a 2011 FZ1 with the full Yoshi exhaust, ECU flash treatment. 150 wheel hp. Loved it. One knock is it was a bit buzzy above 7k rpm with a lack of counterbalancer in the engine. Got a pretty consistent 37 mpg with it, no matter how I rode it. Yamaha really beat the lineup with the ugly stick going from the FZ1 to the FZ/MT-10. No denying the crossplane engine is special, but also thirsty.
I find plenty of capability and satisfaction in the 850-950cc class of bikes these days that I don't need more than 130 horsepower. Just don't. They are the best use of motorcycle buying money. If you absolutely must have a 1L naked bike, the least expensive way to go that direction is GSX-S1000.

You have to ride the Ducati at 7:10 (or more) for it to be happy, in order to enjoy it. With the mt10 you can Cruise all day long and comfort.. and when the little kid inside your starts to poke you you can go crazy like a madman. I have previously owned two Yamaha FZ1 over the years... I picked up a used blue mt10 late last summer. Just under 1k mi, essentially new, $9500. Already a fantastic bike but a $300 flash transforms it to another level. Leave the stock exhaust/cat/emissions intact if you want to keep it quiet, still do the flash! I did it that way then eventually put on a yosh 3/4 system. Whenever a change is made, reflash accordingly is a must. 95% of the power gains are from flash, NOT exhaust/decat. Exhaust just brings out that beautiful cp4 music. I have a new gen '22 mt09 too, I can't keep them both, tough choice but I'm keeping the mt10. Does that tell you how good it is? Beware: that 30mpg falls to more like 23-26mpg after flash regardless of exhaust. Mind you, I flog it reasonably hard😅. Mpg is annoying but damn this thing is SO fun that's quickly forgotten when I hop on and send it😊. These bikes are pure jailbait, careful.

They are complete monsters, fast, wheelies all the time, corners like a dream, the sound is ludicrous with the right exhaust, they're comfortable, I think it looks absolutely dope especially modded properly. You can get the weight down to 440 ish, power up to 150+ WHP with 80 ft lbs. The only bad thing about it is the 29 mpg I get with my ECU flash. Tuono chills out just fine on cruise control or around town in a taller gear with easy maintenance throttle. Although everything on it (ergos, engine, suspension geometry) definitely works best when you go after it, put putting along isn't really its happy place. Gabro map (went from stock bike Gabro map to stage 3 with a slipon and rsv4 airbox conversion; headers don't do much for these outside of weight savings) makes the power delivery and throttle response smoother and more immediate, also smoothens out the shifts when using qs.
It definitely requires more attention and effort than lots of other bikes that can be more forgiving and easy going, but that adds fun and character.
Anyway old man me is thinking about switching to multi v4 pp because doing 3-500 mile days on the tuono hurts me, even 30ish mile highway commute isn't amazingly comfortable due to the aggressive leg position, dunno why I do this to myself when it only feels amazing when I go after it in the corners or have an opportunity to open it up.

I've got one with the de cat and GPR exhaust tuned by Seton racing uk, it's so different to standard. The extra 35bhp makes such a difference ! Power mode 1 now tries to rip your arms off and beat you to death with the bloody stumps. The front wheel comes up in 1st 2nd and 3rd on power with no clutch. Mode 2 is just better smoother throttle response than mode 1 on the standard bike. It's a beast. And I love it. If you like the standard bike you've got to try one with a pipe and good re mapping. Ps it sounds awesome

I love the mt series bikes. Probably will never own a mt10. I’d like to keep my license, and not die. But the mt03 is a great cheap city bike and the mt07 has enough beans to be the bike you keep forever. Great line when it comes to value. I personally don’t mind the looks either.

as an MT-10 / Tuono v4 owner I cannot imagine touring it since it only lasts about 100 miles / 160 km on a tank. I love it, don't get me wrong, but it has no chill. And the brakes are crap if you don't upgrade them, even with the Brembo master cylinder. try the Tuono on full Brembo and you'd understand that they lack braking at Yamaha.

I traded in my Duke 390 for my FZ10 at the time. I will add that I was on a leader bike before the 390 Duke I had a few years off of writing and decided to buy a brand new bike and love the price of those dukes. Certainly a night and day difference in power. That Duke was never enough power wise for me. If they offered a single cylinder 690 I might have been happy as all hell on that thing

I had an opportunity to buy this bike a few years back, a 2018 model with only 350 miles. Seller was asking only 9500 because he was moving to another country and needed to sell it immediately. It was kept in climate-controlled indoor storage for a year (he had it for a year after buying it brand new) and so it was basically still brand new from the factory, still had the color strips on the tires and everything, just 350 miles, he said it was babied and he never even redlined it. It was all stock except for the only mods were frame sliders, a tail tidy, and some kind of aftermarket windscreen that looked really nice. Honestly it was perfect and a great deal. The only reason why I didn't buy it was because I had only been riding for a year at that time in 2019, and my only bike I ever rode was my 2015 KLR 650 that I bought in 2018, and I was concerned that I wasn't ready for the BIG jump in power from my KLR 650 to the MT-10, so I never pulled the trigger on it. But man now I'm really wishing I could just go back to then and buy it... needless to say it sold right after I passed on it, but the seller said I would have had dibs if I wanted it since I was the first to look at it, so it would have been mine for $9500 if I wanted. But oh well, now 4 years later and I'm still riding only my KLR haha

I have an 04 FZ1 and while I love it, the accessory pool is all but dried up, particularly for decent saddlebags. This is the spiritual successor to my FZ1 but one I can get factory bags and easily turn into a quasi tourer and that is tempting. Also I disagree on the looks, it's odd for sure but so am I. It looks like a pissed off robotic hornet and for some reason that speaks to me.

I don't know, I like so much about it but I'm in a weird spot...
I went from a K5 Gixxer 1K to a ZX-14, and now I'm trying to find something in-between (aka the perfect motorcycle 😆). I love how the Gixxer feels like a surgical instrument when pushing it, and I love the comfort and extra power of the ZX14 (specifically the extra torque). But the ZX is heavy and gets "upset" too easily on less than ideal road conditions, and the Gixxer is as bad at low speed (around town, lights, etc.) as it is good when rollin.
I don't think I need 200 HP (maybe 100 torque tho😈) I just want something with a little more low end than the usual 4 cylinder + decent top end, not heavy, and tolerable comfort. I'm thinking Z-H2 but that seems overkill, complicated, and I can't come to terms with spending $20K on a bike. I'll just keep the ZX until I ride something that makes me think "This is it! I won't miss anything about the ZX"

I've waffled about trading in my Tracer for an MT10 for the four years I've owned it. It's a great bike by any metric, and in its current form (upgrades suspension, shorty windshield, no handguards, etc) it's basically a MT09SP with a stretched swingarm.
Tough though. I'd lose range (meh, gas stations are everywhere) and the inevitable spring and farkle tax when changing bikes.
