American cinematic legends who got a call “Hey, what are you doing Thursday? We’re making a movie.” And they showed up. Brilliant. The Pontiac Trans Am police cars were a Cannonball Run specialty.
The one in the original movie at the beginning was likely one of the bandit 2 cars used in the desert scene. You can tell by the t-tops hidden under the police light bar.

It's a very underrated car in my opinion. A quick Google reveals that whilst rare, they're not considered collector's items, and can be purchased for under $10k. As for the hero car, it was evidently salvaged and painstakingly restored by a member of the StarQuestClub - the national owner and support club for Starion as well as Conquests, and it's a beautiful roadworthy car today.

The submarine was a reference to Jaws (has the same music) plus the Lotus Esprit car that could turn into a submarine in The Spy Who Loved Me. The in-joke, of course, is that the driver here, alonside Jackie Chan, is Richard Kiel, who played Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me 👍
