This isn’t a Mel Books movie, but Brooks’ tribute to Dom when he passed was to say that Deluise "created so much joy and laughter on the set that you couldn’t get your work done. So every time I made a movie with Dom, I would plan another two days on the schedule just for laughter. It's a sad day. It's hard to think of this life and this world without him."

I had the opportunity to meet Dom DeLuise & Burt Reynolds when they stopped at the store where I worked to get gas while on their way to the Flat Rock Playhouse, where they were guest starring in a play. They insisted that I call them by their first names & asked if I wanted autographs. They even posed for pictures with me, then both shook my hand before they left. Two very nice guys right there, total class acts...

Saw cannonball run when it first came out in 1981 when I was 12 years old.
I was going to the movies with my then best friend. We were a couple of fanatics about the movies. We talked, read, ate, drank, and slept the movies. And we went to the movies together once a week, every week, from the 1970s-1980s. We saw literally hundreds upon hundreds of movies together. He always chose the movies we went to see. I didnt mind. I loved the movie theatergoing experience in itself. And after seeing our movie, we'd retreat back to his place to watch even more movies on his tv, whatever happened to be airing that afternoon and evening.
We tried to see every new movie that came out regardless of the story, genre (he loved horror movies, I preferred comedies), critics reviews, or who starred in it. So, there was no particular reason we went to see Cannonball Run. It just happened to be one of the latest, newest releases to the theaters.
It initially got bad reviews mostly, but when I saw it, the theater was packed, and the audience, my friend, and myself thoroughly enjoyed it, laughing all the way through. It's a real fun, crowd pleaser of a movie and was one of the biggest box office hits of the year.
Going to the movies in the 1970s-1980s with my best friend is among my most fondest memories of not only my childhood, but my entire life.
