I love this kind of "looking back" kind of videos. Goes to show some of the few things we take for granted today
Why is that a thing now with some review videos having music sounding like a warped record ?
Iconic phones
Lg g2-g4
Galaxy note4
Iphone 4-7
S7-S10
me too!!
Great video M8!
... like mate? M8? Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week folks
Incredible xD
Had the M7, M8, and the 10. Loved them. Btw, the M8 was an early adopter of the QC fast charge protocol, it would fast charge at 18W. If you have any of their old charge blocks laying around they will happily fast charge a modern Motorola, LG, or Samsung - all of which encompass the QC standard (you'll need an A to C cord of course). HTC were true pioneers, they manufactured the Pixel 2 for Google. Then Google bought the HTC engineering division, and the spirit of HTC lives on in the Pixel (a)-series phones.
HTC didn't have anything to do with the Pixel 2, but they did manufacture the OG Pixel. You can kinda tell the OG Pixel is basically a HTC phone as it shares a lot of design language with HTC phones.
I bought mine in 2014 . I'm still using it today as a primary phone . I have replaced the battery two times . Average battery life is about 3 years . It's a bit of a pain to replace the battery since I had to disassemble the phone . It is sandwiched between the main board and screen . Other than that , it has proved itself to be a great choice . This is my first smart phone . Too bad the new HTC company is trash .
Agreed.
Woow I can't believe you've used it for so long, I custom rommed mine and rooted mine, I also had the HTC one m8s which was a European version with a worse 64 bit chip and a slightly larger battery but better camera however it got awfully hot and wasn't a good phone.
@@RinzSach someone should invent a way to use a more modern battery and implant or attach to the HTC M8 & M9 plus, this would be essential and ingenious, it is possible?
WOW that is awesome you made it last so long!
I remember this phone used to be one of my dream phone.
Also I remember Htc U Ultra, a very good looking phone with gorgeous blue color.
Used it, loved it... Just broken my HTC U ultra... Lasted my about 4 years
Just at first sight I immediately fell in love with the design of the M8. Still today it looks awesome.
I miss HTC, my m8 lived for 5 years with dozent of drops on concret and other hard hits. The power button failing was what killed it.
You might find a repair service on eBay.
I went from iPhone 4 to the highly anticipated One M7 and loved it, I still think about that phone from time to time. Best experience i ever had with a smartphone.
Literally the greatest phone of all time. And so AHEAD of it’s time it was ridiculous . The FEEL of that ice cold machined aluminum back in your hands. Those incredible ffs stereo speakers . The OIS even 8 years ago and 4k recording . It was like the martians had arrived and gone “look at what we’ve got you stupid humans” . I was fortunate enough to get one of the limited “cranberry red” editions and people couldn’t help but to ask to handle and gawp at the thing . Strange to think a phone released 8 years ago still hasn’t been equalled today
could even use it as a remote controller too lol. It definitely set the bar for premium feeling Android phones imo.
Totally. We take good speakers in phones for granted today, but back in 2015 when I had an M8 in high school, most others had an iPhone 5/5S or 6. I remember playing a sound clip of something as an example in a science class, over half the class looked over and multiple astonished kids commenting "That came from your phone speaker?!". Way ahead of it's time.
Belongs in the industrial design hall of fame. To this day the best looking cell phone ever made. Sense 5 overlay was so intuitive it puts to shame any iPhone or Samsung. LED screen was a true color rendition compared to the Samsung AMOLED screen everyone raved about. No one has ever come close to the speaker quality. And while we all like the bigger screen size of more modern phones the HTC one is perfect for the human hand. Now it's all about a smart camera not a smart phone. HTC...the best engineers and the worst marketing department in the industry but if they would ever come back with an upgraded One I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Still own my M9, use it as a media player/backup device. Loveee the older HTC models no one makes phones like ‘em anymore.
M9 the underrated phone.
I remember because of heated problem. People think it will die fast but now it still work.
My fav phone of all time. Years later, it's still the best looking phone to me. Premium and functionable aesthetics
I had the first HTC when it launched, and at the time it was by far the best phone on the market and the best phone I have ever used. I feel like it honestly still holds its ground today, and wish they would revive it. The Harman Kardon speakers were amazing, and graphically the screen was ahead of its time.
I had one and loved it !!!
When I got this phone, even my Apple loving friends at the time were envious of the elegant sleek design. It was a truly beautiful phone. That was peak HTC and then they lost their way :(
Rocked it from 2019-2021
Running Android 8.1
Then stopped using after Android 10
Power button got jammed(the plastic on the top was brittle it broke off)
It bootlooped and the battery died
Best display ever
The HTC M7 was my favorite at the time. Used it for about 3 years before it just shut down on me. really wish HTC was still in the game.
i disagree with pretty much all. I owned this when it came and had it for two years. The camera was great still got pictures on drop box and went to check and it still holds great. some of the pictures that i made with macro camera look stunning. dropped it so many times with no case or protector, not a scratch. mine came with free sub woofer to compliment the speakers. eventually phone battery gave up. still think it was one of the best phones of the decade
I still have this bad boy . Everything well but just 4g is done!
I still use a M8s as a radio player & banking app. Still love it. I do use another phone (SamsungS9+) As my main phone. Love the feel and shape. The stereo speakers are very good.
super easy to root and flash Lineage OS 17.1 Android 10 on the HTC One M8. HTC 10 had the nice feature of setting headphone / earbud profiles tailored to the sound profile of what you are using and a great built-in dac/amp. HTC screwed up with the Ultrapixels camera marketing and just lack of marketing budget in general. The battery and wifi degradation was kind of an issue too.
literally one the best looking, best feel phone till date. I had/ still have one just as a collection because I bricked mine way back lol. There was something about the htc ui that just spoke to me, they had a great thing going on too bad how it ended...
Still got my old M8, stayed with me for 4 years and would've continued for longer hadn't the battery expanded and popped the screen from the body. Loved the phone back then
you can always fix it...
@@afiqalbawah4039 I did eventually cave in and fix the phone but it's only a fraction of what it was back in the day. Too slow and heats up alot :(
Send this message from the M8
This phone is a legend ,growing up I've owned 5 htc phones, two of them were the htc m8 and I still have them
This was and is one of my favorite phones ever. I remember when this came out, I was in awe. Premium build, great software (at the time). I truly wonder what HTC would/ could produce in 2024
My very first smartphone brand is HTC which is ahead of it's time... And still today, I am using this phone as my main smartphone also I played LoL Wild Rift of it.
This was my first cell phone and I still love the build quality and appearance
It was Nokia, BlackBerry and HTC that made Apple, Samsung who they’re today. HTC was one of my favourite brands names that I loved.
Hi, there.
I have a whole collection from hTC ONE M7, ONE Max, E8, M8, M9+, E9+ dual sim, and Desire 12+.
M8 owns the finest texture and ergonomic shape due to its thin, round and blunt one-piece aluminum body, in my opinion, it's appearance is one of a kind in the ONE series. It's trendy even after 9 years.
Speraking of apps functionality, apart from replacing a new battery, I also upgraged it to leanageOS based on Android 9.0. It brings sleek swiping and scrolling to her without doubt.
There's a trade off between slim outlook and battery durability, so I'm not going to make M8 my primary but a spare phone, and using it to dig out shopee coins from time to time to reclaim my investment on it. |o|
Thanks for sharing, dude.
oh, I miss my old m8, an iconic phone.
M8 was my favorite phone ive ever had. I was so into smartphone tech back then, and marques convinced me. Build quality was ahead of everything and the speakers were great. Wish we could get the same phone just modern internals.
The M8 was the last android phone I had before I moved back to iPhone. It was a great phone back in 2024-2015 but moved on to a great deal on an iPhone 6 and haven't gone back to android until recently. My work phone is Galaxy S21 FE and I love it!
Just wait until the Z Fold 6 comes out later this year. 💯❤️
Still have it, was a great phone.
such an iconic phone. i’ve always wanted one.
I had this when it came out, and then a 10, a U Ultra (which is getting very tired) and just bought an M8S again, out of nostalgia (and disappointment in new phone designs in general). It's a "new" specimen (prob refurb or something) for 90 euros, but the whole thing looks original and unused and it's just brilliant. These were so much better than anything today. I expect to daily use it for a year maybe and save it for my flagship collection.
I had M7 and M8 both. In fact I still have my M7 with swollen battery.
Battery was a day long only on M8 and processor's inefficiency was apparent. The phone killed the battery very quickly and after 2.5 years of usage, the phone started giving some pop up errors. Upon checking we found out that the phone's battery was swollen.
The difference between boom sound from M7 to M8 was also just a software tweak. M7 had less volume but deep bass. In M8 they increased mids so the loudness increased but the bass dropped . But if the enhanced sound was off then it would sound the same as M7 more or less.
Camera was fine for general photography back then. I didn't have a complaint there but M7 lost its main camera. It was a problem in almost every 2nd M7. The camera would over expose and burn the image with pink haze. Really lot of people lost trust in HTC just because of this.
All HTC needed to make software better and keep on updating their phones. Every Samsung user would call that gap out in HTC that HTC wouldn't update devices. Two software updates were all.
But on the other hand the phone was a jewel. Solid build, lot of unique features like dual camera and speakers, blinkfeed, very sharp screen, a cover that could show notification like a matrix screen and list just goes on.
My absolute hands down favorite phone I ever had. At the time it smoked everything and after 4 years of using it I still loved it
Great review dude. It’s a nice change to see a looking back video rather than latest devices which are basically all the same.
I remember when this came out it was so beautiful and even now it’s still beautiful definitely in my top 3 smartphones even in 2024
I actually just bought an M9+ as well as the desire 21 pro. i still love the phone and wish htc would bring back an all metal flagship they would have my money in a heartbeat
Why the battery of M9+ is só bad?
someone should invent a way to use a more modern battery and implant or attach to the HTC M8 & M9 plus, this would be essential and ingenious, it is possible!?
Even by 2022 standard, the design is still flawless
the sound out of this thing was incredible. front facing speakers and incredible internals to deliver amazing sound through headphones.
The M8 was the best Android phone of its day, no doubt about it. But obviously it'll be rubbish compared to today's phones. Still, it's a classic and HTC have never hit those heights since the days of the M8.
In terms of speakers, the one m8 boom sounds will still outperform most speakers "when gaming" playing music and videos the phone isn't that loud, so try compare it with gaming
Still waiting on the ad but THIS is the content I love 😂
I had an M8 back in the day as my FIRST smartphone. I chose it because i heard it was a pretty good phone. I never regretted buying it and I loved it so much. Funny enough I destroyed it in the first week I got it, not for a trivial reason like dropping it, no-no. The phone asked me to lock my files due to security and tap on yes and let do its job. But I wanted to get some pictures onto the phone so I cancelled the process by rebooting the phone. Only to witness the lock-screen asking for a pin to unlock the locked files. Because I cancelled the securing process and never came to the possibility to set a PIN to unlock the locked files, I effectively locked myself out from the phone. Needed to send it away and got an HTC One M7 (a really good phone though) as my replacement.
What I really adored about the M8 was the quality of the phone, the performance and the built-in theme designer, with that I could design my own themes with my own wallpapers, symbols and even sounds! I made some game or anime related themes. It was just awesome. It lived through 2017 when I got a Samsung S8+ as my new daily driver (it's still in use).
I still have my m7 today unfortunately even google chrome doesn't work well. Great speakers though.
Funny. I looked it up today because i remembered that i wanted to have it back in the days but could not afford it back then. They should use the body and put in new hardware and a 6000mah battery and i am in.
this was my first smart phone changing from a blackberry bold. it was such a great phone sadly ruined it a bit (still alive) but oil fell on it while working on a car. Great phone for its time and miss all the gimmicks it had for its time.
I had this one! Wasn't a great phone but the speakers were a BOP and the curved metal phone felt good in the hand.
BOP? black ops?
Just bought one for £10 yesterday, and its sharp relevant and many apps still good .Some do not show up but the phone is still really positive. For a tenner ,with the £125 price tag still attached it was a bargain! battery life weak, so what as a good battery charger accessory solves that easy 10 000mah
Does it support WhatsApp features
@@chinazochukwunenye9062. Yes it certainly does
Watching this on my HTC M10. 🙂 I'm not an app/games/social media type of smartphone user but I'm still using my M10 because of the sound quality. Regarding the sound quality between your HTC M8 Vs your iPhone, I've heard that the sound quality of the M8 is better for me than your iPhone. Regarding battery, yeah it sucks! I only get a few hours of usage then I have to charge it again (around 4-5 times a day 🙁). Finding a original battery replacement is also almost impossible as as the model is already not supported. Like your video though
someone should invent a way to use a more modern battery and implant or attach to the HTC M8, this would be essential and ingenious
I used my 10 until last year, then I moved on to a u11 and u12. I used ebay batteries and the quality varied a bit, some tested out as 1900mah but more often than not some were VERY GOOD and tested even over 3000mah. replace that battery!
I am looking this video in my HTC m8
I saw in RUclips recommend
Love this phone. This or the original RAZR surely best looking phones ever?!
Could you flash a bespoke firmware on there? I suppose the camera and battery are still gonna be dreadful regardless of the software
One of the things I really liked was if I took a photo and I didn’t like it, I could just hit the rewind button and see the photos before I hit the shutter and see if they were better. HTC was the first company to start that concept and they did full resolution photos even before you hit the shutter.
The phone has alot of features that camera phones don't have today. Infrared capabilities etc
I was expecting the depth camera to be featured, which was basically the main thing of this phone..
I wish it was updated to Android 6.0. It'll have even greater app compatibility & newer versions of Google apps, Gmail & Instagram might work on that device! I still have my ASUS ZenFone which I've updated to Android 6.0.
What I like most about this phone that separates it from the rest is it's infrared capabilities
It get's toasty
60-70 degrees idle
Had to underclock it to 1 ghz
So it idled under 60
It also have an extra hour of battery life
It took 4-6 hours to fully charge
I recently sold mine. It was new and boot looped. I finally decided to flash RUU. Fixed it this last time. I don't know what happened I think I unlocked it and never rebooted back into system. Idk. I loved that phone. Someone bought it as a throw back.
I'm planning on buy one, and change the os to lineageOS, sound like a cool project
If HTC just rereleased the HTC One M8/M8 Eye M9 and especially M9+ they would sell as hotcakes; only thing needed is updated hardware.
I absolutely LOVED this phone. I upgraded it to the HTC 10 and then after the 10, I got sucked into the Samsung ecosystem and am using an S22 Ultra now.
I had the 10 and u11 and u12. The 10 was SPECTACULAR, that phone corrected all the issues I had with my m8, which I was in love with as well. The 10 was one of the best rounded and beautiful phones I've owned by far, and it was quick. The u11 was a stunner as well, but the glass didn't ever feel as solid as the metal.
I have a HTC One M7 in Blue and a HTC One Mini 2 in silver . Love both phones !
Loved it, had this phone so it was cool to see this!
I used this phone .. man it gave me a lot of memories back there. It's one of the coolest smartphone ever in 2k14 . Who ever had this phone , they seems to be god 🤓🤓. It's a really really good phone .
Switched from iPhone to one of these. Bricked itself within a month, got another, found that it was clunky and just generally not as good as my iPhone was. It was my venture into android and I won’t go back there again
Custom Rom plus gcam and a Kernel Flash will make it way more usable
Besides gaming, I find that 95% of Apps still just work fine on Android 6.
I loved the One M7
HTC and Sony are my jam when it comes to design and perfomance
Htc 10 is also awesome a d legendary
bad design ... one series foreva
Still my backup phone, working well.
Love it
The only real competitor from Android against Apple. I wonder if HTC survived Apple would have to struggle more to get the customers. I have huge respect towards HTC as a company back in the day. Google should not have bought their employees, we would be able to see wonderful devices from HTC.
Best phone ever made. All these things people's iPhones and others do tiday that phone did way back then. I'd still be using it if the software still worked and battery.
the battery and wifi over time is kind of what killed HTC imo. Also, not enough focus on camera (Ultrapixels marketing instead of MegaPixels was a bad move imo) and perhaps too much focus on 'music listening experience' (I don't mind, but unfortunately most didn't care at the time).
@@CknSalad yeah my m8 took great pictures. My Moto G7 power is awful. But it was $250....
@@regularguyfixes3142 yeah HTC's camera was underrated imo. probably overall third or so best out of the Android flagship phones consistently imo. It's a real shame HTC is a shell of its former self.
Can you believe that I am using it as my main phone.
Great review .
You mentioned the efficiency of the processor,
How did you measure that ?
I actually made a video too of this last year. I love the model.
Had this phone… Loved this phone.
I loved this and droid turbo. Best phones I ever had
I had the M8 and while I understand your complaints about the phone that was your personal experience of an almost 10 year old used phone. Not every phone is going to be as good or as bad as yours.
😂 those days, I still have that htc one v
this video is gold and underrated ! thanks for the video. i wish if you can give a try for htc u11 +
I still miss mine, although the vibration could cause an earthquake.
My mom has one of these but she did a good housing swap 😂 She hated that phone cause she came from an iPhone at the time
I use to love this phone. Had two the blue and black model
someone should invent a way to use a more modern battery and implant or attach to the HTC M8 & M9 plus, this would be essential and ingenious, it is possible? And why does the battery take so long to charge the device?
I used this phone for 5 years, and loved it. Would have used it even longer if I hadn't dropped it in the toilet 😅.
I remember when this phone was the king of android phones lol
Man the m8 was such a good phone in it’s time.
The best in the world, my loyal companion in my chillwood
Is it just me or do all the photos still look pretty decent?
Missing the days of IR Blasters in phones.
Used to do the most devious stuff in school with my Galway s4
Still the best looking phone I've ever seen
Probably my favorite phone I’ve ever had.
I loved it Ill love to see this run lineage os
I just bring this back to turn it into a makeshift Audiophile DAP.
I was gonna say the battery was probably old.
Mine lasted all day.
Why can't we have metal smart phones today?
Best phone design ever!!!! one m9 looks ugly hope they make another one with slimmer bezel
In today's world, what do u think will happen if phone/gadget companies produces lower end phones and install the SD801 chipset in them? I mean it has a CPU that clocks 2.5ghz that's faster than the Helio g90t
