I have to apologize for the audio during the unboxing segment, I'm using some new equipment and 'learned' a few things I shouldn't do. Sadly, unboxings can't really be reshot.

Great video!!! I work for Verizon and I sell this phone a LOT! Before your video, I wasn't pleased by the critical or bias views about the phone- and a lot of the negative comments about the phone were caused by actual "user error". Your review and explanation was wonderfully in depth... I don't comment, like, or subscribe much but I am happy to after watching a video with a length of nearly 42 mins and didn't feel like it was long at all! Keep it up...

Nice video, Mike, as always. I really wish HTC would come around on the power button placement. The only time I don't mind it on top is when the phone is really small (i.e. iPhone).
Also, your dogs are awesome.
I agree that the phone is too big to have the power button on top, it seems everybody wants to put them in different locations except the best location, ha! It also doesn't help that the button is almost completely flush.

Thank You! I'm using the HTC One M8 as my primary phone right now, and will then jump to the Galaxy S5 at the end of the week when I review that. I'm primarily an iPhone 5s user, and that is what I always have with me and will likely revert back to.

I probably should have concluded that the camera is still too low resolution despite solid real-world performance. Cropping is the biggest issue with low resolution.

Took me a few hours of searching but I finally found your channel again, I really like your reviews, IMHO one of the best when it comes to cell phones. Sadly I had to change from the HTC One M8 due changes and updated tech with the cell networks. I miss this phone, I had / have the fully unlocked HTC version.

I do not comment too often on youtube but honestly what a great video. Congratulations. Of course I have watched most of your videos but this one was great. Keep up the good job and thank you for your time and effort. As for the M8, what a smartphone. I have the M7 and I had low expectations on what HTC could do to make the next generation better but HTC proved me wrong. More beautiful, more features (and those are usefull ones) and even better build quality. Well done. I hope that HTC will surpass all the problems of the last two years. Sorry for my English, Greek is my native language.
Thank You Aris, I was feeling pretty bad about this video because of the audio quality problems that cropped up, and it was a hard one to shoot for an number of scheduling reasons. But I got it in and accomplished what I wanted to in terms of the content.

It still has 4 MP. I don't care if you call them ultra pixels or super ultra pixels. If I try to zoom or crop the photo, it will look really shitty.
Funny how people think the number of megapixels matter. The HTC One M7 had arguably one of the best camera's on a phone of 2013. And if you want to take awesome pictures, get a dedicated camera. Not a phone.
James Holland No, it didn't have the best camera on a phone in 2013. The iPhone 5S, Lumia 1020, and Xperia Z1 all beat it. As for your ignorant comment on a dedicated camera, not everyone wishes to lunge around a dedicated camera everywhere they go just to take decent pictures that can be cropped or zoomed in to later. I, personally don't care at all about the camera, but please don't act like your perspective is the only one that matters. Megapixels do matter when they are such a small number.
James Holland Megapixels matters. You need it to have resolution. 8-13 should be standard as of right now. The ones beyond like 20 or 50 can be said as gimmicks. You can clearly see the large amount of grain in the photos taken especially on the flower. It looks like the VGA quality of the iPad 2.

The S5 didn't change anything either. They just added a finger print sensor and a heart rate sensor among some other useless gimmicks. The design is also pure shit, worst design ever.

WSFD10 I did, believe me, all they did was throw in some more useless gimmicks that most people didn't even need. The bezels are much bigger and it's still made of cheap plastic and a very cheap design. Touch Wiz also looks lame compared to HTC Sense,

WSFD10 It's not ''leathery'' it just has an organic feel to it and it's still cheap and ugly.

Thanks Luke! I will be reviewing the GS5, although I tend to avoid vs videos since I ultimately can't draw a final conclusion regardless, just pro and con. I will say that the GS5 has one striking quality that has me excited. According to Displaymate, the GS5's display is ranked as the best on any smartphone, which is very exciting to me as somebody who has preferred LCD to OLED for years.

I was looking forward of buying an iPhone as a Christmas gift for myself this year. However, when I have read some of the latest news about this phone, I became interested immediately in knowing its features and specifications. I even watched some of the unboxing videos, and honestly I was a bit pissed-off of those since those do not cover the most important usage, specifications and features of the phone. Recently, I found this unboxing video, and I am very happy that someone has made a wider scrutiny and gave us (viewers) a closer look into the phone. Now, HTC One M8 is on my Santa's wish lists (haha! Kidding aside.). Seriously, I will buy this phone. Congratulations and thanks to the maker of this excellent video. You assisted us in choosing the best phones based on the harmony between our needs and wants. ;-)

The M8 is simpler, but there is a little less design detail because of that.

Til this very day, the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition was my favorite phone that I've ever owned!

I just got this phone a few days ago. I upgraded from a Nexus 4. I HAD to upgrade because my Nexus started getting hot when charging and losing it's charge very quickly. I was kind of reluctant to get a new phone when the "new" phones are about to come out. All my worries are lost now! This phone is AWESOME!
Thank you for the great review, but I believe that the upper part where is the power button located is a glass material not a plastic and the speaker grills are still made out of aluminum "check out the teardown video of the M8".

Wow, thanks for that review. Soooo long, but you covered just about everything!
Couple things I noticed. Virtual buttons only rotate one way. At one point in the camera they were upside-down. Mic sounds much better when using the camera on the back, but there was also some popping on the dog segment, did you have headphones plugged in or something that were hitting the phone?
On this good review, I'm going to stop looking at reviews and just enjoy the phone when it arrives on Tuesday for me :) Surprised on the camera quality after a bunch of other reviews bashing it, looks fine to me. Also, you didn't touch on battery life, but I'll find that out soon enough.

The IR blaster is still located within the power switch. That Argentina black plastic piece is simply a design choice (as an HTC employee told me)

Currently watching this on my m7. I had to actually turn down my speakers when you tested the audio haha. Well, I'm sold...again. it would be nice to see a higher 'ultra pixel' number, but as a photographer, the higher the number doesn't necessarily mean better image quality. A higher number would only get them more sales since people are so brainwashed into the "higher numbers = better" concept. I was considering this phone or the new 'OnePlusOne' simply because of it's battery. Hopefully that comes to the US and SOMEONE does a review of it ;) Otherwise I'm pretty sold on this phone...I don't know why I had to make this comment so long...anyway, great review (:

Got this phone yesterday, and so far loving it, no complaints. Only one thing is if u have somewhat small hands, it will be hard to text on the phone at first, but u do get used to it after a while because the screen is a little big. Fits in a pocket fine, and would highly recommend this phone over Samsung or apple if you want a high end smartphone.

Till today, this phone in gunmetal with the brushed look and that beautiful unibody full metal construction is my favourite android phone design ever. Loved the way it fit in my hand and the simplistic software too. Awesome phone 👌

I love the features on his phone and blink feed seems like it would be pretty awesome. I have an S4 atm and I think I'll probably get this phone in the same color as this video soon(gunmetal or something like that).

I bought this phone and the build quality is just amazing, it is also super smooth and fast. A great and well worth device for the money.

The double tap is "unreliable" because the swipe is antisapated so the first tap may be interpreted as a swipe, then you have to tap twice. That means sometimes you have to tap three times, but just use the swipe upwards to unlock and double tap to go to sleep.

I found my gun metal M8 att unlocked and boot stuck on splash....6 damn years. I tried so many , soooooo many times to flash ruu and hard reset ....Unlock the boot and nothing worked. Sent it in to a company that sent it back stating no dice the partitions were corrupt. I still tried ....So I found it in storage. I downloaded an RUU again. Plugged up and though it ran through the process I walked out as I didn't want to see it stuck. Came back in and I'll be damned. It booted. Haah. This thing I held onto all those years because I never got to truly enjoy it ...the display is incredible. I use note 9 V20 and pixel 4xl ...all 2k ...this panel looks just as good. Something about it. Plus not a scratch on the gorilla glass. This is insane. It's sat in a couch cushion , glove compartment and storage. The phone is great. Sadly I use Verizon towers now. Anyway so happy I had to come and brag about it. Forgive me. Lmao

I have taken phenomenal pictures with this phone, many that have been obviously better than my good friends 5s, the sensor is superior only drawback is the inability to crop but we're not using zoom lenses here, simply move closer
So what ur trying to say is that the camera quality on the M8 is better regardless of the 4mp?
