I've basically been thinking of an army build built around those State Troop steam tnaks as a frontline, followed by A line of handgunners (preferably the Surefires) and some artillery, along with some demigryphs on the flanks for security. Just let'em gather round the tanks and flay their infantry alive with volley fire!
Remove the handgunners for more tanks, the steam tanks ARE artillery and the flanking units can also be steam tanks. Fixed it for you :) (But for reals, the AI will aggressively go after your gunners and arty, and steamtanks aren't fast enough to stop them. Demigryphs will work until you go against someone with lots of ranged or cav, at which point you probably wont have enough to stop the enemy)
Unfortunately, everything that's not a steam tank is a weak link. As much as I love Demis, they'll take casualties and either have to be babysat, or allowed to die with honor. It's a similar issue with Carrowberg GS. As much as you love them and want to use them in builds, what happens is they get ground down completely in an engagement, and then you've got an empty hole in your army that should just be another unbreakable Steam Tank.
@@KingfisherMC the idea was that demigryphs are flankers to intercept any cavalry that get sneaky, and the steam tanks act as the front line to let the enemy blob up and pose an easy target for my artillery and handgunners. Add a couple characters to provide more frontline coverage and act as emergency interception, and I'm not too worried about the survivability of that army.

I would love a Steam Tank mount for Gelt. You just hear "For Heldenhammer!" before a cannonball the size of an Ork's chest flies through the man next to you. You follow his finger in horror, as a million pieces of shrapnel fly toward your squad, seemingly from the heavens. Luckily, you're spared the pain, as the tank's newly loaded cannonball ends your miserable existence before you can register it.
Since the most recent rework of the Steam tank in Immortal Empires, thanks to these Thrones of Decay DLC, this stack may have become twice as powerful than before (I say "may" since, while I know the game quite well, I have never played it) and with the addition of the Volley Gun variant of the tank as well as the fact you can give one as a mount to the Master Engineer, you can have now 2 full stacks of 2 different types of tanks, which I personally believe is the BEST THING EVER for a game such as this
"The Imperial Army's advance into the Badlands is swift and brutal. In mere months, we have reached Iron Rock - the last line of defense before the Greenskin capital. They outnumber us ten to one! But wave upon wave of our infantry are unleashed upon them to clear the way for our armour. Once we have control of Iron Rock, we will begin the march to Black Crag.
