I love it! I live in a building where people move in and out quite frequently, yesterday I found a beautiful green ceramic stool, it was rough getting it up four flights of stairs but worth every panting breath. Trash on, peeps.

I respect the hustle, man! So many people out there complain they can't get a job. Well, TBH there's sooooo much you can do that isn't a "job" and will actually make you MORE money than some "jobs". And you're doing it. I've always done similar side jobs like this. Good for you dude!

obviously this town doesn't have a disabled veterans organization, or thrift shops, or homeless shelters that gladly accept a lot of these items. can't believe she told him the fans work but they didn't have a need for them- so throw it in the landfill! glad you are salvaging what you can. Reuse-Repurpose-Recycle !

    • @robertwalton1054
      @robertwalton1054 5 лет назад

Exactly, she didn't have any use for them so throw them in the garbage. People want easy and easy is putting it all out for garbage and if it goes to the landfill so be it.
I have a friend that is always getting rid of good usable items and she always tells me I can everything otherwise she's just going to throw it all in the garbage. I asked why she didn't donate the stuff and she said it's too much of a hassle and when she tosses stuff to the curb the garbage men take it away and that's what she wants

One person's trash is another person's treasure. When a neighbor of mine moved, she gave me a beautiful coffee table with a glass top. She also left stuff at the curb, and I looked through it and found a jewelry box with costume jewelry in it and a few more pieces that were too nice to be thrown away. I also got an office chair with wheels and it was in perfect condition. I am sitting in it now. I've had it for several years and got it from next door when the people moved out. They put two used but new looking Raymour and Flanagan hairs out and I took them home and got compliments on them from family members. I love other people's trash.

I've read lots of comments here about how you left behind the rubber turntable mat. But I didn't see any about something that might have been a lot more valuable. Visible at 20:21 is the side of a wooden box in one of the trash cans. This type of wooden box originally contained a table flatware set. Silver plated, or sometimes solid sterling silver. Silver plate is not super valuable but it does sell at the flea market or on ebay, as does the wooden box. People discard the silver-plate sets because they have the wrong family's initials monogrammed on them, or the set is missing a few pieces. Solid sterling silver tableware also came in the same kind of box. It's extremely unlikely that it contained sterling silver (think $500 or possibly more), but you absolutely should have looked at it. Throw it in the van, look at it later.
A few years ago I bought a $150 solid silver bowl at an estate sale for $2. All because the people were too lazy to turn it over and see the word "sterling" stamped in the bottom.

A friend of mine is retired Navy. He was telling me that when he was stationed in Japan that the Japanese would throw out really nice things like perfectly fine and great shape tv’s, furniture, and a lot of other things. He said that he and other guys stationed on the base would drive around in a pickup truck the night before garage pickup and get really nice stuff. I guess they furnished a lot of their dorm rooms on base with nice things that the Japanese threw out.

Once my husband saw an Electrolux vacuum cleaner by the curb for garbage pick up. He brought it home. Only the hose was stuffed and we got a 2nd hand hose to replace it. Still works the best after all these years. It is over 25 yrs that we have it. My own newer model of the time didn't even work as well as this one either. Est. value of the time. $639.00.

We donate our really nice things to a charity shop and other stuff we put at the curb. It's great you can make money off other people's trash. I started a craft business recently that i use items i find at charity shops like figurines, decorative items, wreaths etc and use them to create a new item or miniature scene. I also buy cheap stuff on ebay too. I try to reuse as much stuff as i can for my crafts. Some people at craft shows thumb their nose at me doing that others say what a great idea it is. Keep doing what you're doing. 😁👍

taco a couple questions, 1. when you get home do you take all the metal items apart and discard the plastic and fabrick from a stroller Etc, before you take them to the scrap yard? 2. Do you strip the plastic and rubber off cords before taking them to scrap? I know you can't hear me but I'm a repurposer and sometimes I yell at you. Old dressers with real wood drawers are very popular right now, so take the drawers. People are screwing them to walls and using them as shelves very handy. 3. Can you record when you go to the scrap yard, show us how the scrap yard works, please thank you. 4. Why do you park so far away from the junk piles?
    enjoy your videos TY

Hey Taco the walking (7:16) sticks/canes can fetch you about 5.00 each if they have the metal or rubber tips at the flea market. I couldn't tell if the one beside the cane you put back was a carved walking stick but those go as folk art and fetch sometimes 100.00 bucks depending on the carving.

When my kids were small we got the biggest kick of putting trash to treasure things outside and see how long it took before someone came by to claim it. They called it the magic curb! Rule one was it had to be still useable items. No junk. Kids are all grown now but truth be known, I still enjoy it! Hey if I can give it away to someone who can use it instead of throwing it away, it is a good day!!😁

I've met a lot of male pickers who aren't familiar with brands, and they'll go to thrift stores and thrift outlets and fill their cart full of stuff, that will be a pain in the butt to re-sell, and I'll dig in there and find jewelry, old coins, designer bags, that are worth more than the guys whole cart. I loved trash picking as a kid, but where I live now rains too much for that, so people just donate to thrift stores.

I only have a little Prius but every Sunday evening I go through my surrounding neighborhoods trash picking. I don't pick up scrap metal though since I have very little room. But I can get some surprisingly large pieces in my car with the seats folded down. This past week I got a 6' tall cabinet, wicker basket, and storage container full of fabrics. One of my favorite finds was a chest of drawers and a rocking chair with cane backing. I plan to refinish these pieces and sell them. My hope is to purchase a truck with my profits so I can get bigger stuff. Yay upcycling!

I would have taken that dresser with the caster wheels on it and refinished them. Made them bedroom side tables.

Mai Britton ..For some reason in his area furniture doesn't sell well at all. He's had some very nice pieces, priced really inexpensively and no one buys it at all. He talked about it in a recent video. He said that he has to store furniture in his warehouse, it takes up room, he can store lots of boxes of stuff that he knows will sell in the same space. Now that I understand I don't shake my head, as if he made a mistake, nearly as much. Lol

Angie D yeah I can see his point. Where I live we only have pick up days like that once a year. I think I would furnish my house that way.

Mai Britton that dresser with the caster is a vintage , i have one just like it and it’s almost 100 years old !! 1920’s could have restored it and re sell it . The mirrors have the date printed on the back of them that’s what makes it valuable.

Fun vid! Just a word of caution about lamps; the harp (the part the shade is attached to) is not fastened on. It just slips into a bracket on the lamp itself, and frequently slips right out again if you pick the lamp up by it. I had to learn this the hard way, lol.

I love that you are recycling/reusing/whatever, I do my part by putting stuff out there neatly organized so guys like you can take it before the garbage man does. I just put out all the steel from a trampoline that was only a few years old (the springs were all breaking off - terrible purchase) and the guys took the steel as my kids were dragging it all out there - they were thrilled. However, when I put electronics out there, I have to tape big signs to them stating they work, but still people cut off the cords and make them useless for anyone to reuse or repair, and they usually make a mess while doing it.

Probably not your thing but I see what looks like antique furniture that could be refinished fairly easy with chalk paint or if enjoy sanding and staining or painting.
Depending on your storage and workshop determines how much you take on. My son's are 21 and 24 and neither one is into woodworking. It's all engines, cars,am lawn equipment. Please look up chalk paint. Love to see that blue dressing table with mirror painted white or light grey and then sold at a flea market or online. Good luck from Texas!
