      You could potentially size down to a Medium for M825 (but that’s another pattern range size), make sure that you fit your shoulders that is key the for this pattern and that you use a cotton lawn fabric.

    I totally understand how you feel about the drafting of patterns. It’s disappointing to put so much effort into a project and then to find it isn’t going to work out. I can also relate to the lack of enthusiasm over a hobby. Much of my frustration or, lack of enthusiasm with my sewing hobby is a mixture of finding the right fabric for my project and spending more time altering patterns for a good fit. It seems to suck the life or enjoyment out of me. Plus, I am finding that after a day of work, getting dinner on the table and kitchen cleaned, prepping for the next day, I don’t seem to have the energy like I used to. Hoping this is a phase that will pass quickly. Always enjoy your sewing journey. Love the gold fabric. The pin-tuck is a beautiful feature but, not sure how I would feel with it across the front bodice of a dress for me. I’m getting so that I can’t stand anything fussy up around my neck. Guess I won’t be making too many tops and dresses in the near future as this does seem to be the trend. Love watching your Sew Along Videos and your sewing journeys. Thanks for sharing!

      I will finish this and send it to the donation pile. If you do try this pattern with the pintucks use a rayon challis fabric (although that is going to bring up some other issues if you do the pintucks and honeycomb pattern). But there is something I didn’t talk about this pattern. You do the entire front bodice piece with the pintucks and then you cut it to your size… I had to release two of the pintucks from the sides to make sure it fit on the template pattern piece that you cut around. That’s were I wonder if someone tested out the pattern in the larger size range. Like you, after a long day I don’t want to have to wrestle with neckbands that don’t work or things that are not properly drafted. I just want to sew!

    I make muslins because I’ve had fails in the past and it really bugs me when I waste beautiful fabric. I’m glad you are starting on what you will be sewing for fall. I am chomping at the bit to get ready for fall. Look forward to your next post!

    Yep, same here. I always make muslins because I don’t feel that I have a good grasp on the adjustments I need to make and because I don’t want to waste the beautiful, and expensive to me, fabrics on something that would not fit well. I stop a project after making a muslin more times than I would like to admit. In part, because I have chosen a wrong style of garment in the first place. I was so discouraged with my last two muslins that I agreed to make two baby quilts for a friend as a break from the frustration. Now I can’t wait to sewing garments again! 😉

    I quickly learned to make a muslin for any woven pattern. I usually need a petite adjustment between the shoulder and the armscye. Then check the dart, and on and on. I even start with flat pattern measurements and make the adjustments before sewing up a muslin. My muslins are old sheets and sometimes just basted together. I test out new to me details, like those pretty pin tucks you did. I abandoned a big 4 pattern recently, it just wasn’t going to work for me. Adjustments I made caused more problems than they solved and I was just done with fighting it! I have patterns that fit me beautifully and I’d rather spend my time getting new looks from those. It takes a certain amount of courage to walk away. I’m not always sure if a pattern is “me” but there are definitely some worth getting right, others, not so much. ❤️
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these projects.

    Wow, it really is beautiful. Its too beautiful not to recover the work you’ve already done and recut it into another bodice pattern. I almost bought this pattern & so glad I didn’t.....however I will look for another pattern with pin-tucking done this way.

      There is an OOP Butterick 6208, it has pintucks and it’s more of a tunic length but it has pintucks that you can turn into a honey comb pattern.

    My summer didn't go as planned at all, I had a lot less leisure time than I'd hoped. I haven't sewn clothing in years so I'm planning to make a couple of patterns marked as "easy" to get back into it. Your learn to sew pattern looks a lot harder than a beginner pattern lol! I would a lot rather put in zippers, ruffles, sleeves, etc, than those wavy pintucks on the front! Good practice. This kind of technique would make pretty pillows if you wanted to use it again?? I have always liked to make costumes - so I have a couple of bolts of muslin. If the fabric isn't expensive I will just go for it. Usually only if I am altering an old pattern to fit me or using very expensive fabric do I use the muslin.

    Yes, I’ve had a recent issue with the drafting, made some cargo shorts for grandson, made a 36, thank goodness he wears a 34 still (mom was unsure when I cut it out) but the 36 is indeed a 34. Runs small. Never had that happen in Big 4. I lucked out this time, but hubby’s shorts I will need to size up. Seems a little all over the place. Headed to the blog…..

    Do you think I could use the pattern piece #2 , the guide for pin ticks and lay it on me first to see if is too big? I so love this pattern and stubbornly want to make it. Any other suggestions on nailing the right size or is it just too full in the body that your don’t like it?

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  Год назад +1

      so here is what I have to say.... make sure that the pattern fits you in the shoulders. That is first things first. second make sure that the fabric you are using is something like cotton lawn that will keep those pleats in place. I used linen... perhaps not the best fabric for this. I say make it. Go for it. If all else I learned a new technique . It was time consuming but I loved the effect.

    I need to get into the habit of checking RUclips before buying a pattern....not just before making it. But I started sewing way before YT so it's not in my thought process. I bought M8325 recently. I like the look & I've seen these types of shirts in RTW. Now, I'm not so sure in my size. 😢. They really should have 2 different size models for each pattern. So much ease! Maybe this is where adding a waist casing would benefit. I'm having a hard time getting my sewing mojo on because I don't want to waste time & fabric..so I just sit and binge watch others making things. 🪡

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  Год назад +1

      I know what you mean about the wasting fabric thing BUT perhaps just buy some muslin and try a pattern out with inexpensive / cheap fabric so if it doesn't work or you don't like the fit then what is $5 worth of fabric vs. using a precious Liberty Tana Lawn that set you back $50 on sale! I wasn't too sad about this pattern, I got that linen on the cheap, it was nice to try a new technique but the ease on these patterns is insane and really hard to fit because you have to make sure it fits you on the shoulders first. But perhaps pick another pattern, go get some cheap fabric (I usually just use muslin so I can see what needs to be corrected) and then go use your nice fabric. I assure you have I have the same issues and it's almost paralyzing because you don't want to waste your nice and $$$ fabric if it doesn't work out. But don't let that stop you. It's just fabric.... we aren't making a rocket or performing heart surgery.

    I just bought this pattern and really that the choice of fabric matters a lot. I would only make this of rather silky rayon or light eight cotton. Muslim will not drape as it is supposed to…

    • @MassonLifestyle

      Which one? The Fira from Liesel & Co or M8325? I gave up on the Fira for now, I think using the pattern as a top would be great and the McCall's pattern I can only see it in a cotton lawn and that's it. Like you said, the choice of fabric matters a lot for both of these.

    • @Attirbful

      @@MassonLifestyle Goodness, I did not expect such a fast response! LOL. I bought the M8325 and what to make it with pintucks, sleeves and the frill (sorry, I am a native German speaker and am not quite certain of the correct vocabulary). Seeing your Muslin version, I feel it really must be made with a very soft lightweight cotton. Never heard the term before but looked it up and lawn cotton seems to be a good English equivalent for what I would use here in Germany. I think the pattern is very charming, but I also have somewhat of a bust and fear that it might add additional weight visually. Therefore, I want to extend the pintucks in the front a little, too, possibly in a V-shape. In any way, I think pintucks will be less problematic than the criss-cross tucking. Maybe, I’ll make it in a light Muslin first as well after all…

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  Год назад

      @@Attirbful I always reply to comments! Some times, it might take me a little longer but I always try to do so. Yes lightweight fabric on that one FOR sure! If I were to do it again, I would use a Liberty of London Tana Lawn fabric. Super lightweight and the pin tucks would be really crisp.
