I think you peeked in my pattern drawer, LOL! So many things I plan to make "someday," and in the meantime I buy new patterns 🙄! And I have definitely had those "what was I thinking" moments with fabric, too, although I'm getting better at moving it along to someone who might really use it. One question I found useful from a video about deciding what to keep is "would I buy this today," and if the answer is no, then why is it in your closet now? However, still not sure I can part with those old fleece pants that are so cozy on a really cold night - just hope no one but immediate family ever sees me in them 😂! I would say that even small scraps of good cotton fabrics are useful to quilters when bundled into a plastic bag and bits of lace, trim, buttons, etc. are often used by folks who make stuffed animals, doll clothes, etc., who only need a little of something for a project, again, bundled into a clear plastic bag to be donated to Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.

I actually looked at all my patterns last night after thinking I was going to buy a pattern from VikiSews and Merchant&Mills, I decided to check out the stash. I have two patterns that are pretty darn similar so I decided to skip those other two patterns and use what I have. I must say I do have some pretty amazing patterns, some others…. what in the world was I thinking and they are headed to Goodwill because I know for a fact I will never ever make them. But laughing a little because I keep all the swatches I get and I’m always thinking this will make an amazing quilt some day. Some things are useful to keep around, others are not.

I cracked up about it being sold at a garage sale... it's soooo true! That's how I get some of my best stuff! I've been using it lately - trying out all those patterns I've accumulated, as well. 😀 Thanks for a great video.

I tell the story because you KNOW that woman is NEVER gonna make that pattern. EVER! If it’s been sitting in her stash for 30 some years, she might as well make $50 and let it go to someone who will or at least let the person borrow it. So you know the day she passes her family will call all that stuff “junk” and either send it to Goodwill or sell it at a big Estate sale for nothing. Which i gotta say will be a shame. BUT alas… I get it. I love my patterns too and some are just hard to part ways.

Alex, thanks for all the suggestions about what we can do with our fabric and pattern stash. The sale lures me in every time, but I am trying hard not to buy until my stash is more manageable.
