My dad played for Iowa in the 60s so watching this collapse as a 10-year-old was pretty crushing... and not being able to make it back to the Elite Eight since? I don't think anyone would've believed that. Amazing.
Had to pause this game because I don't know if I can stand the disappointment I did when I was a kid. I was crushed. To think if we won we would have faced Indiana again who we beat at home that year I think. I think that game in on you tube as well. Number 1 vs number 2. Perhaps I will watch the rest of this sometime. This was the beat Iowa men's basketball team in many generations. Bj Armstrong was my favorite. Still have a picture taken of me and him at Iowa's basketball camp that I attended during this time. Still remember first year coach Dr tom saying I looked like brad lohaus. Also remember watching Robocop with brad and other hawks during basketball camp. Good memories.
This was a great game during a great era for college basketball. The trifecta was introduced at 19'9", few teams had more than 1 decent three point shooter (UNLV had 2-3), "bigs" were big, 45 second shot clock reset after an offensive rebound, and you had games still in the 80 point range.
And more of a shame still is the fact they've only been back to the second weekend of the tournament a handful of times in the 34 years since! That was Tom Davis' best team and I was pulling for them back then! I believe Iowa would have had a great shot to win it all had they advanced
@@bradlewis6514 Yeah and Iowa went 1-1 during the regular season against the eventual national champs Indiana that year. That Iowa team was absolutely loaded with talent.
My story, My Dad and I went to get a 12 pack a beer during halftime and when we got back the lead was down to 8 we couldn’t believe it what Tom Davis did wrong was he started to slow the game down big mistake!!!!! He got the big lead my full court pressure and run and gun and shoot so that’s what cost Iowa and Iowa would of won it all
I thought this Iowa team had more talent and depth than the Indiana team that beat us. But hand it to Coach Knight, he was a legendary coach(so was our Tark).
As a kid growing up in Vegas in the 80’s, this was definitely a very special time in my life.

Iowa had a great team that year. Watching big ten basketball was exciting back then.
Watching college basketball period was exciting back then. Today's game is unwatchable.

Longest night of my life when the Hawks lost.

@@kevinbrewer3002. Just like the Football Team was Heavily Favored in the Rose Bowl in 85 and ended up laying an 🥚🥚🥚🥚🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿
do you have any of the other games from the rebels 87 tournament run?

There's no way you lose this game. Say what you want about Marble, but he blew it in the 2nd half.
This one hurt lol
The Hammer !
Iowa has four of their five starters make it to the NBA and still didn’t make final four? Shocking.
The guy at 01:21:42 seemed pretty bent out of shape about the charge call...looked like a charge to me.
Rebel highlights: 1:03:33, 1:05:44, 1:09:45, 1:11:50, 1:15:54, 1:16:42, 1:17:46, 1:18:36, 1:19:43, 1:23:02, 1:23:32, 1:27:07, 1:33:32, 1:34:28, 1:36:39
Someone adjust the vertical hold please...
Way too painful to watch, even 36 years later
Iowa should have won
