    Glad I chose this video first :) Very nicely presented. I like the one that let's you pair to three devices. Might use two connection for work during the day and let my child use the third one for homework in the evening. Thanks.

    Mechanical keyboards are a bottomless rabbit hole. The selection of switches is ever-growing. The switches I put on my mechanical are far more sensitive than my logitech chicklet keys. Too sensitive in fact, it makes me mistype twice as much. I feel like I'll eventually grow into it as my touch typing and dexterity improves

      The last time I reviewed a mechanical keyboard I was sent bags and bags of different keys. It was like having a LEGO set again. And I also realised that I could put off actual writing for hours if I just made sure I played with them all.

    4:40 I still have my old Apple Wired keyboard as well. The key feel is better than the current Magic Keyboard in my opinion - nearly the same crispness with a bit more key travel.
    Interestingly, the Apple Store Genius Bar keeps those wired Apple keyboards handy. They’re grimy and worn from years of Genius Bar use, but they still work.
    PS: PC users, check out the Dell KB700. Similar look and feel to the black version of the Magic Keyboard.

      I didn't know that about the Genius Bar, that's so interesting. I still have my wired one too but it felt so heavy on my fingers now.

    Hey 58 keys, thank you for this concise video on Keyboard for writers. Since the ratio of gamers to writers on youtube is very one-sided all the guides are regarding "gaming" "mechanical" and "cherry switch" keyboards. The anecdotal tips, the humor, and a display of different types of keyboards and their advantages made this video insightful and a lot more useful for me (personally), as someone who is getting into writing! 😁

      Thank you, that's very good of you to say. Now, get back to writing!

    Finally I found someone who feels the same way about mechanical keyboards as me. I find the large key travel to be really tiresome. I am writing on one right now, looking forward to get a low profile chiclet one to mimic my old laptop, which I tried typing on again recently and I was surprised at how fast and accurate I was, compared to when I'm using a mechanical keyboard.

      That's so interesting: I have found I can be more accurate on a mechanical, but it's specifically because it slows me down.

    Great video! I laughed, I cried, I bought a keyboard.

    At 15:03 you show a "UK keyboard" which has a US layout, with the @ over the 2. On a UK keyboard " is over the 2.
    As a touch typist, the difference between the two is annoying. I have two Alphasmart Neos, both with US keyboards. Because they emulate the pc keyboard I have to use @ as speech marks!

    • @WilliamGallagher
      @WilliamGallagher  2 года назад

      Are you sure about this? I just checked that point and zoomed in: it looks like the correct UK layout to me. But I'm so with you on the differences: I thought I could settle for a Windows version of one keyboard I really liked but I couldn't bear it. Gave it away and overpaid on eBay to get the Mac one.

      @@WilliamGallagher Although it has a L shaped enter key the sign over the 2 is @. On a UK keyboard the sign over the 2 is "
      And yes I'm certain that a UK keyboard has the " over the 2 and the @ over the apostrophe key to the right of the semi colon.

    • @WilliamGallagher
      @WilliamGallagher  2 года назад

      @@muskndusk Aha! You're a PC user. I don't know why PCs and Macs have the @ and " in different places but they do and I used to be tripped up by it a lot when I was switching between the two platforms. I expect there are third-party external keyboards for the Mac that follow the PC layout but Apple's own are as you see in that image.

    • @muskndusk
      @muskndusk 2 года назад

      @@WilliamGallagher Thanks. This must be the cause of the confusion. I've always used pc's, not macs, though I believe the Alphasmart is based on a Mac design, which is probably why I have to use @ as the quotation mark (it emulates my computer keyboard when inputting the data).

    Just followed up on the Waytools keyboard, which looked really handy! Looks like their site is defunct, and several Reddit threads suggest they collected a lot of preorder cash and have not been quick to refund it even though they've not shipped the products they sold. Sad, looked really cool and super portable.

      It really was: I have one. And I met the people behind it: I liked them hugely. I'm very worried about what's happened; I've not been able to get back in touch with them.

    Thank you for another great video. I have a number of friends who are obsessed with mechanical keyboards but I haven’t spent much time trying one myself. As I begin to write more with my iPad, it has become clear that the basic Apple keyboard folio does not offer a satisfying typing experience for anything longer than a quick email or pithy RUclips comment. I have seen several recommendations for the Logitech keyboard, so I may give it a shot. I sold two iMacs recently so I no longer have the “Magic” keyboard or the extended keyboard with the number pad. On an aside...I chuckle every time there’s a mention of chicklet keyboards. I grew up in the States and Chicklets chewing gum was quite popular when I was a child. The shape of the gum (in candy and in keyboard key form) has survived much more so than the brand name. images.app.goo.gl/992cBtu22mSTAbb26. Best regards!

      I know you're right about chiclet coming from the candy, yet every time I say the word, in my head I'm thinking chicklit. Which is unfortunate as chicklit is a somewhat derogatory term for novels aimed at women, most usually romance titles. And there aren't half some brilliant romance titles. But as for keyboards, I've just filed a review for AppleInsider.com about the Keychron K3 and I'm writing this to you on a Vissles mechanical one that I'm reviewing next. I find when I need to really buckle down to some writing, I push these aside and go back to my Apple Magic Keyboard, but right at this moment, I am finding the clack and the feel really fun. Much more fun than I've felt before.

    Logitech K800 for the win :)

      I adored the Logitech K811 but it was discontinued years ago - just about the time I went to buy one. Spent too much money on eBay to get it but haven’t regretted that.
