Hey Ali, a quick ergonomic tip for you. When you're using a keyboard, it's best to hover your hands over the keyboard. When you rotate your wrist, you're adding a bit of stress on it, and it can lead to carpal tunnel. So try and bring your chair up, or your desk down to keep your wrists from getting bent :)
It definitely negatively affects typing speed to do this. It's probably better for long term health but you lose so much leverage. I go from 130wpm to 60. Granted if you type on an apple style keyboard with a wrist rest you might not have as much drop in performance, but with mechs I feel like the leverage is necessary (for me at least).
Make sure you type the words correctly though otherwise your comeback is worthless lol. I some times try to hurry and say something in game and I make spelling mistakes because I hit the incorrect key and then look even more stupid hahahha i would work on accuracy instead of speed because speed naturally follows
Just in case you didn't know, the keychron keyboards don't only have one lighting mode. You said later on that you didn't like that the colors switch around, but you can change that by just pressing FN + arrow left/arrow right. Plus if u don't like the color look of it, you can always just swap out the keycaps, it's really easy to change them. Hope this sways your opinion a little bit for esthetics on the k2.
Anyway not surprised, mechanical keyboards are bad for fast typing (as someone who averages 170), mechanical keyboard simps who mostly type slow disagree, what else is new

@@gamerunner478 umm. I used to practice everyday. I like used to improve 10 words per minute in every month but from 90 wpm, i started to improve slowly and i guess took around 11 or 11 and half months.

What you are using in your mechanical keyboard is a regular mechanical switch which has way more travel than the apple magic keyboard. If you are interested in trying more there is 'Kailh low profile choc switches' which is mechanical and low profile (also less travel obviously) and also some people are buying custom switch and spring to replace their regular mechanical switch spring for better feel and travel. There's a whole rabbit hole in this hobby lol
Great share, as someone working in software development, I love the tips you give and totally agree. I also recommend learning to touch type (i.e. without needing to look at the keys)
I mean, it’s fast. I feel proud even when I hit 40 or somewhere around that. Just that you’re comparatively slower but that doesn’t mean that 60 - 70 is a bad speed. It’s actually kinda what I hope I would reach at some point in my life.
Seriously, every time I see one of my favorite RUclipsrs make an unprompted video for mechanical keyboards, I get seriously hyped for the keyboard community. So much growth in the last few years 😊 I love this video
My colleagues and I are all sitting in our office watching this video. We type for hours on end because of the work we do. These are some great tips so thank you!
When personal computers first started to become more common, circa 1985, I bought an IBM personal computer and also a Keytronics keyboard that was so highly rated at the time. I've never had a better keyboard and wish I still had it.
Since your last guide, I have reached a record of 167 WPM on a MacBook keyboard. Remember, no keyboard will ever give you everything you need, you also have to put in a lot of work, and your last guide inspired me to do that Thanks for that, it is very fun showing off at school :D
From my research on the topic, I understood that red keys are normally more suited for gaming: They require little force to press, which makes them fast. They are also quiet. It would be super cool seeing you also try out different switches that have different spring strengths, as well as mechanical switches that are considered low profile.
it's actually much harder to keep the flow when you type random words with no sentence structure. I mean when I take typing test I'm at like probably 75 ish wpm, but when I communicate my own thoughts I'm a bit faster than that. Mainly because the words I'm typing come naturally as a flow, whereas for the typing test my brain often stops and thinks like "why is bearable coming after pub" or whatever :)
I personally think feel and lack of mistakes are easily as important as raw speed when it comes to overall productivity. My favorite typing experience is without a doubt the IBM Model M or one of the modern buckling spring descendants from Unicomp (who operates the old IBM keyboard factory in Kentucky). Absolutely wonderful keyboards, if a bit ugly.
Same here. For one, I spend much more time thinking about what I'm going to write than actually typing out the letters. And for two, every mistake takes much more time to fix than outright speed can really correct. Of course usually speed and accuracy develop together so it's not really "either or", but still I'll always err on the side of accuracy than speed. I think both of these are things typing tests don't really account for. It would be interesting to have a typing test mode where 0 mistakes are allowed, i.e. you HAVE to go back and fix the mistake.
I’d be interested to see you ,as a writer, to try out different types of mechanical switches (tactile, clicky, linear, low profile) and different styles of key cap profiles to see how that changes typing speed, feel, and experience. Like if you prefer penguins with KAT keys or ink blacks with OEM profiles (random examples) there’s just so many factors like switch actuation points and travel distance, key shape and wobble, layout. I’d value your viewpoints in contrast to the gamers and coders.
I started typing practice around April of last year. I have basically done it every day because I just like it for some reason, and I finally reached 100 WPM a few days ago. It feels great and all, but my accuracy still sucks XD. edit: BTW, I started somewhere around 28 WPM.

Hey, thanks for your comment! I recently came across this awesome product called the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule. It's a compact device that offers both powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities. It's perfect for keeping your desk, living spaces, and even your car clean and tidy. Plus, it has some great features like high-quality filters and efficient storage. Definitely worth checking out!
Mechanical keyboards can be hard on the fingers and--in my experience--can be more likely to cause repetitive strain injuries if you use one as your daily keyboard for writing. I would suggest getting O-rings for your mechanical keyboard if you plan on using it as your main tool as a writer. It really helps!
One point I would make, despite your aversion to the MX-Keys, is that it's portable. Every other keyboard you showed was ridiculously chunky for portability, the MX-Keys at least slips in to a laptop bag.
I raised mine from 80 to around 110 in around the past 3 months. My goal is around 140 ish so hopefully I can achieve that in a few months of practising
To both increase typing speed and reduce the potential for RSI (repetitive stress injury), I would highly recommend using a wrist rest that is level with the keyboard you are using. Especially so with the taller and more angled mechanical keyboards. Much like playing piano, it is ideal and most comfortable to have your arms and wrists level with the keys on the keyboard.
You also have to take into consideration that it takes a bit of time to get used to a mechanical keyboard, considering there are different keycap profiles, switches, and every keyboard has a different stiffness.

To both increase typing speed and reduce the potential for RSI (repetitive stress injury), I would highly recommend using a wrist rest that is level with the keyboard you are using. Especially so with the taller and more angled mechanical keyboards. Much like playing piano, it is ideal and most comfortable to have your arms and wrists level with the keys on the keyboard.
thank you i love you for thisss
Yeah, since switching mechanical keyboard with OEM profile keys, my wrists feel quite strained.
It really is wild how the Apple Magic keyboard is so pleasant to type on. 😌
You also have to take into consideration that it takes a bit of time to get used to a mechanical keyboard, considering there are different keycap profiles, switches, and every keyboard has a different stiffness.
