Just in case you didn't know, the keychron keyboards don't only have one lighting mode. You said later on that you didn't like that the colors switch around, but you can change that by just pressing FN + arrow left/arrow right. Plus if u don't like the color look of it, you can always just swap out the keycaps, it's really easy to change them. Hope this sways your opinion a little bit for esthetics on the k2.
Love the video! Just as a viewer perspective, the second camera angle is a bit to much and dissolves the illusion like you are talking to ME. I think a down facing camera showing the keyboard only would be great and keep the illusion that its just me and you baby!
I’m a videographer. And this is the reason why, if we do an interview shoot. It’s only a 1 camera setup if the talent is looking straight to cam. If he looks off center, (to an interviewer, for an example), then 2 cam setup can be done.
it's actually much harder to keep the flow when you type random words with no sentence structure. I mean when I take typing test I'm at like probably 75 ish wpm, but when I communicate my own thoughts I'm a bit faster than that. Mainly because the words I'm typing come naturally as a flow, whereas for the typing test my brain often stops and thinks like "why is bearable coming after pub" or whatever :)
I suck at typing but your other videos influenced me to buy an IQUINX with reds and it's by far the most enjoyable keyboard I've ever used . Makes me want to practice typing. I had the Keychron for a week and couldn't get into it. Question: Are you much of a left pinky user?
What you are using in your mechanical keyboard is a regular mechanical switch which has way more travel than the apple magic keyboard. If you are interested in trying more there is 'Kailh low profile choc switches' which is mechanical and low profile (also less travel obviously) and also some people are buying custom switch and spring to replace their regular mechanical switch spring for better feel and travel. There's a whole rabbit hole in this hobby lol
I personally think feel and lack of mistakes are easily as important as raw speed when it comes to overall productivity. My favorite typing experience is without a doubt the IBM Model M or one of the modern buckling spring descendants from Unicomp (who operates the old IBM keyboard factory in Kentucky). Absolutely wonderful keyboards, if a bit ugly.
Same here. For one, I spend much more time thinking about what I'm going to write than actually typing out the letters. And for two, every mistake takes much more time to fix than outright speed can really correct. Of course usually speed and accuracy develop together so it's not really "either or", but still I'll always err on the side of accuracy than speed. I think both of these are things typing tests don't really account for. It would be interesting to have a typing test mode where 0 mistakes are allowed, i.e. you HAVE to go back and fix the mistake.
You also have to take into consideration that it takes a bit of time to get used to a mechanical keyboard, considering there are different keycap profiles, switches, and every keyboard has a different stiffness.
I’d be interested to see you ,as a writer, to try out different types of mechanical switches (tactile, clicky, linear, low profile) and different styles of key cap profiles to see how that changes typing speed, feel, and experience. Like if you prefer penguins with KAT keys or ink blacks with OEM profiles (random examples) there’s just so many factors like switch actuation points and travel distance, key shape and wobble, layout. I’d value your viewpoints in contrast to the gamers and coders.
Seriously, every time I see one of my favorite RUclipsrs make an unprompted video for mechanical keyboards, I get seriously hyped for the keyboard community. So much growth in the last few years 😊 I love this video
Mechanical keyboards can be hard on the fingers and--in my experience--can be more likely to cause repetitive strain injuries if you use one as your daily keyboard for writing. I would suggest getting O-rings for your mechanical keyboard if you plan on using it as your main tool as a writer. It really helps!
I started typing practice around April of last year. I have basically done it every day because I just like it for some reason, and I finally reached 100 WPM a few days ago. It feels great and all, but my accuracy still sucks XD. edit: BTW, I started somewhere around 28 WPM.
4:55 This is consistently one of the first pieces of advice that I give to junior devs. Or at least, it's a part of that advice. Your keyboard is your friend, it will save you from so much work.
As someone who can also type at around these speeds: Keyboard doesn't matter. As long the layout isn't weird and the keys aren't hard to press, you will be consistently the same across all keyboards after enough practice.
Hello brother. i have learnt Python and java programming. But dont know whats next. What things i need to learn to become a web developer or a software developer. And what steps we need to do to take this sector at enterprunership. Please make a video where we can get the proper guideline. I watched all of your videos that helped me to think my future newly.
Hey Ali, I think this has less to do with the type of keyboard and more with the type of switches in those mechanical keyboards. If you love the magic keyboard - on the Keychron or IQUnix - you should try smthg like the "cherry mx fast silver" keys which have lesser travel distance - & you will love 'em. Satisfaction plus speed :))
Thanks for shortcut tips too. Great work. Feeling is everything as if we are happy, we type more. Also, in your testing, remember that as you practice, you get faster, so to be fair to the keyboards you need to begin with each one in the same typing state of mine and practice. (Being nitpicky now) You are such a darling that yous stir my mind. Love the pink, white blue look keyboard. Cherry blues? 140 words per minute? Great work all round, down, across, etc.
Great video. I have on my desk the MX Keys AND the Magic Keyboard. I primarily use the Magic Keyboard because I like its smaller footprint and use the MX Keys’ numerical keypad whenever I need it.
You type insanely fast. However, these videos have motivated me to start typing more efficiently. I am much better now, and I have to say that it really does change the rate at which you can work. Precision is something that I still need to work on though as I make mistakes that could be easily fixed. I recommend starting without having to look at the keyboard at all.
Keep in mind that the Keychron warehouse is in Hong Kong. It ships from there, and if you don't like the product, you're responsible for returning it to there. Which means, effectively, there are no returns. Keychron doesn't offer a return label, so you can pony out more money than you spent on the actual keyboard, trying to return it.
I am quite obsessed with keyboard noise and I love to feel the noise and the depth of the keys when I type. The keyboard typing "noise" that are presented in your video, is REAL or is it enhanced by you? I just want to know before I make the decision to buy any of these.
Very interesting video. What is your opinion/experience with ergonomic keyboards? Wouldn't it help with typing speed and above all prevent fatigue (which leads to slowing down)?
Great video. But.. 1. *Gateron 2. Mechanical keyboards don't need the keys to be bottomed out. So if you practice with the same keyboard, your speed will increase massively. 3. The musician theory that you gave applies to qwerty layout too. It's inefficient. You should look into other layouts like Dvorak, colemak, workman, Norman etc. They all boast impressively low travel distance compared to qwerty.
Of course the winner is an Apple keyboard. Sigh. I'm outside the Apple ecosystem and not going to dive in. Those mechanical keyboards are gorgeous. I use an ergonomic keyboard with a split design, and arrange it at an angle to avoid stress on my wrists and elbows. Right now I'm using a Goldtouch which has a lovely clickety clack and requires just a little bit of pressure to get the key to depress. My typing speed is only 88 wpm, though. Hats off to you for that insane typing speed!
Please say about your finger placement for all the keys.. as you said that Little finger is rarely used, which finger is used for which key to achieve that speed. I think your answer for this helps lot of people.
6:15 the fact that he uses the mouse to reload is lame. He could use a tab. I have seen how useful keyboard shortcuts are from him. I started learning more shortcuts.
10:06 I actually prefer throwing out my keyboard to throwing out my mouse for pretty much everything that isn't typing. If my games ask me to touch my keyboard I feel annoyed I can't just sit back, relax, and click on everything with my mouse. I do type with my left hand and don't use my mouse when I type, but there is no world where I use keyboard shortcuts to navigate thats gross. I also don't really understand why I would be navigating during my typing sessions regardless.
Makes me nostalgic about the first video that made me sub, nice video. But you should try MonkeyType, much more customizable and sleek than 10FF, or Typeracer to see how well you do with puncuations and backspace.
Hi mr. Abdaal, great video! You mentioned having 8 the same keyboards, with different switch types. Which switch do you like the most? Is there much difference? Thanks!
if you want to have that short travel distance consider trying out gaterons short switches i forgot what they are called but if you search up geteron short swtiches youll see what i i am talking about
Nice i type 160 wpm, on a cherry mx red. But i type fast as a membrane keyboards, but they are a bit more fatiguing to use it but im prone to less mistakes with them.
You should take a look at the Vimium plugin for Chrome or Firefox, because you like to use the keyboard for everything. If you press F with the extension active all links will be highlighted with key shortcuts to be opened. I like it and use it a lot.
if you tried using the mechanicals without bottoming out, you might like them better. Use a tactile switch, or a blue one, and touch the key until you get to the bump or the click. You only need to press the key that far to actuate it. Bottoming out, hitting the key until it touches the bottom of the switch, is time-wasting and puts strain on your joints.
Red switches are linear, and some may enjoy the feeling of a smooth press down on a keyboard but alot of people prefer a tactile exprerience. if you ever get soldering experience, or get a hotswap keyboard that supports *choc* switches, i would reccoment those as they are mechanical switches, but they are low profile like membrane keyboards. while they do take a bit of the satisfying factor away, it''s still better than membrane switches.
