11:16 The reason for making noise as you are typing is that audible feedback confirms whether or not you've struck a key, if you struck a key one or two times, or when you have released the key. Hearing the audible feedback of the keys is vital when typing very fast. That is why IBM Model M keyboards with their mechanical buckling spring keys are highly desired by fast typists.
Cool to know
ooh, I actually have an IBM model M that i found in the dumpster lol
thats right
For the "learn keyboard shortcuts" section, another fix for that is to do Ctrl + Right, which moves the cursor over one word left one word. Sometimes it will move differently depending on the editor, but it has the same movement as Ctrl + Backspace, just without deleting the word
Very helpful tip and just to add to this, once you fix your typo, pressing Down Arrow will bring you back to the end of your text and you can continue where you left off. Likewise, Up Arrow brings you to the beginning of the text.

I was looking for this comment lol
Could you pls explain me that comment you wrote.
@@reginaldspectre6512 Exponential growth means that it is proportional to a^t whereas linear is just t ("a" is a constant, "t" is time). Main point is he is saying that the rate of increase in typing speed does not increase with time.
@@pancakes465 thank you so much.
Well it's not technically a linear function; generally speaking, according to the "power law of learning", learning processes can be displayed as a positive powerfunction; You learn a lot, relatively quickly and then it tapers off towards a certain "skill cap" which you can only reach by absolutely pushing yourself. That is when content becomes more complex and difficult, or when skills become more and more difficult to automate/perform. (i.e. where the "learning curve" starts to really get steep.) However, regarding progress: You do most progress relatively early on.
Think about it: Say you were learning to play the guitar. You learn the basics in a few months, some more intermediate things follow that, and a few years of consistent daily practice, learning becomes slower and slower as the content "to be learned" becomes more and more advanced. It's like that with professional tennis players as well. They learned the majority of the skill within a few months very quickly, but the progress that sets them apart is done relatively slowly over the course of several years of practice. You can earn 60% of proficiency of a certain skill within months or a few years, but the other 40%, to truly make you a pro-guitarist or tennis player, will take you several years (if not at least 10 years, for extreme levels of skill, like professional musicians and tennis players).
Same thing goes for forgetting content. The "power law of forgetting" postulates that you forget the majority of content very quickly at first, and it then slows down after a while, taking longer and longer to completely forget what you've learned. Forgetting can be displayed with a negative powerfunction.
Same thing goes for typing. When you first start out, your speed can increase a lot within just a few months of practice, but after that, getting from say 130/140 words per minute to 150 (like Ali) will take you a lot more practice over a longer stretch of time. This is where an "increase" in your abilities (direct palpable improvements) start to taper off and slow down. You're still making progress, but at a slower rate than when you went from 40WPM to 80WPM within a few weeks.

i can relate to alot of the things you pointed out in this video. Get yourself a really nice sounding keyboard. But before doing so ask your mate if they prefer clacky, clicky or thocky sounds and then chose your keyboard setup from this infromation.
Then tastefully type infront of your mate something which sounds productive, then act as if you are stuck and ask them for assistance on how you can continue your text.

Agree
Hey about the loud, forceful typing. I used to do that in my youth too. I typed VERY loudly, and over 110 wpm on dvorak. Annoyed the hell out of coworkers but it was just habit. The more in the flow I was, the louder, harder, faster it got. But as I aged (now mid-50s), I developed all kinds of RSI problems in the hands and fingers (not wrists), in spite of having always been heavily focused on proper ergonomic desk setup and posture. (And using two mice with alternating hands, the rare times I use them. And also augmenting keyboard with footpedals.)
I've even had to switch to heavily modified ortholinear split programmable keyboards with ultra-light, very short throws, and had to design my own layout over several years.
I believe that my very heavy, agressive typing was what caused my RSI, because there were no other complicating factors.
The obsessive focus of ergo keyboards helped some, but what really turned things around was focusing on as light a touch possible, and keeping the fingers as close to the keys as possible. In general, moving the fingers themselves as little as possible, and using as little force as possible. It also ultimately helped me speed up. (I'm not yet back up to 110 wpm on my own radically different layout, but steadily climbing. Age/slower learning, and slowly improving RSI has definitely slowed the learning curve - not like it was when I could switch from 100 wpm on qwerty to 110 on dvorak in 1.5 years in my 30s. But I'm nearing 70 wpm.)
Maybe you won't face that same fate, but just in case I'd strongly recommend making that adjustment now, just in case!
Thanks for making this video, I learned some useful keyboard shortcuts! I would love to see you make a video on how you can think and talk so fast. Are the videos your normal talking speed, or were they edited to fast-forward in order to fit more content?

I think I'm the only person who has this feature in chrome, since I've seen absolutely no one talk about this feature in the internet, the feature is: when you type in a website and press tab, it lets you search with that website.
So for youtube, you just type youtube (or if it autofills for you, the better), then press tab, type the thing you want to search then click enter, it will redirect you to youtube with the results of your search.
I've seen absolutely no one talk about this and it makes me sad to be honest. You can also add certain websites if it doesn't let you do it at first, but not all websites are compatible though especially if the thing your searching doesn't pop up in the address bar.
holy shit this is amazing
This is extremely common. I use it everytime n everyday
Thanks for this. Only seems to work for youtube though.
Thank you for the tip!
what you're talking about is search engines. if you visit a website, sometimes they'll add a search engine for that website to your browser automatically. however you have to visit a website that was programmed to do that (e.g. a shopping website). otherwise, you can just make your own search engines. the cool thing is if you make your own search engines you can specify your own keywords. so for example for RUclips, my keyword is yt. whenever I type in yt in my browser, it switches to my RUclips search engine. browsers are meant for search engines and I think the real reason why people don't know about this is people the average person doesn't really understand what a search engine really is and how search engines aren't decided by the browser. in fact, if I wanted, I could use my address bar to search my RUclips search engine by default, only searching Google if I type in a keyword like gg.
btw, a fun fact, you can use your browser address bar to go through your computer's file system as well

thanks, doc; I'm aiming to reach half your typing speed and now I have an idea how to get there.
How interesting and impressive, good Doctor! Typing intelligently is honest and skilled work.
At the end of his first date with his mate:
"Soooooo...I very quickly realized you're my type"
Underrated
It was at 69 likes but i had to like it
"hopefully one day it will help me attract a mate" lol
Man I have watched this video so many times already but its always nice to come back.
He is useful as a doctor and a very useful man as a human being, a useful person, thank you.
Imagine people in the 19th century flexing their writing skills with a pencil
The typewriter was invented in the 18th century
@@laurenpeterson6625 okey? I didnt say other wise i just picked a random time before technoleggy was a thing
@@leonleon9294 yeah but the typewriter being invented defeats the purpose of using a pencil to flex
@@leonleon9294 also wdym technology
Penmanship used to be a sought after and well respected skill. Especially in the 18th century

Thanks so much for this video, so useful!
I'm a speedy typer I took keyboarding twice due to moving schools so by my 2nd course i really just owned the class. It stayed with me almost 25 years. Kind of amazing how I can finish my work in 4 hours while newbies take 12hours
luckyy, no, actually you deserve it, hope i can be at that level... someday. someday too.
From “A doctor working in UK” to “A doctor based in UK”, Ali has come a long way to indirectly express his unemployment!
Yes
@@user-op8fg3ny3j Yes but he did not lose his job, he is taking a year off
He chickened out and got scared of corona, and forgot about his doctor oath. It’s the same as someone signing for the marines and then running for the hills the minute the war starts
@@carlsanc3880 Idk how did you get such baseless thoughts but the truth is he's finished his Foundation Year training and now he'll have to go for Residency program. Go get some life dude!
Vinit Gothi I have a life, I am a senior software engineer, and systems architect. And I sustain my claim. A doctor taking the year off during the pandemic it’s a bitch act.
CTRL-Backspace to delete a whole word (on the heathen's keyboard). This is revolutionary! I've been typing (fairly quickly) for 30 years and didn't know this...thank you!
Great video thanks for the tips.
As of now, June 23 my best wpm was 131, my average around 120.
