      7 Wood with the extra loft, potentially could go a touch higher with the higher initial launch, shaft length would be less also so less carry distance and less ball speed so on balance I think it would be less 👍🏻

    I hit the Cleveland HaLo fwy just two hours ago at an outdoor demo day. The clubs are insanely easy to launch and I was getting a high repeatable ball flight. Good enough that I am going to order a 7 wood for starters and ditch the 4 hybrid. Cleveland doesn't get much love, but if you are an older guy or someone who struggles with consistent contact I think you should take a look. I was impressed.

    Good stuff. I had the Cleveland Halo 3+ Hi wood when they came out a few years ago. Shorter shaft than a 3 wood but with the loft of a 5 wood -from memory it was 18 degrees.Nice club, , but I couldn't really see the difference performance-wise to my 5 wood. Yes, it had a shorter shaft than a 5 wood but not enough to really make it THAT much easier to play.

    Just switched to a 4 hybrid from my 4iron. Definitely lands more soft, goes much higher and a little further. Very happy.
    I switched to Mizuno 245s so my 5iron bridges the gap well and also has a decent decent angle.
    I’ve taken my very old 3w & 5w out of the bag and replaced with a 4W. Again very happy with this choice (suggested by Jay in chat).
    I’ve been cut 2 shots already in 2024 so I’m heading in the right direction.

    My go to club is my 3 wood, hit it better than any other in my bag. We all have a club we prefer, when i was able to play and 30 years younger it was my 2 iron, but now fly my 3 wood 210 yards, when there is run out, who knows given the rain in the UK, age 67, take that all day. So manufacturers playing with our ego, doesn’t work with me, have lessons, practice and challenge yourself on the golf course. New equipment will not make you a golfer.

    Regarding the 15HCP hit % from 221yds, I will go as low as 5% (!) Maybe that's a bit too low expectations, but just a shot from the hip... ☺
    The HyWood really looks like the Goldilocks of tools to put in the bag🙂. Could fit well into the spot just above the longest iron. I'm currently looking for something between my 5i and 5W, and this deserve a closer look. It's just (almost) a deal breaker that it's not adjustable 🤥. Still something to think about🤔. Maybe other brands have similar tools with adjustability...?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 месяцев назад

      It's a shame they didn't add that in my view is a crucial thing. Someone also commented that most golfers are so bad that there natural variance goes way passed the level of adjustability and that does have logic, but as a whole and for the range of golfers looking at this club, and that could easily be a scratch golfer, then the addition of that not only distance but flight adjustability is in my view a deal breaker at least 👍🏻

    It's an interesting area to explore. I've got a 7 wood, a 21* UW, and a 4 iron. I haven't tried a hybrid for years, as they used to go left on me. It's an awkward spot in the bag that sometimes calls for different answers depending on the course and conditions.

    I have the last iteration of the Halo Hybrid 5 (24"). I have been hitting it left a bit but realised that was me- too much toe- but does have that bias too. Just bought the latest in the 4 (21") and 3 (18"). Was going for the Ping 430's but the Clevelands were half the price here in Thailand, and although no adjustment, it just made sense- they felt very similar tbh and I don't use them that often so wasnt worth double the price for a club i may hit each once per round (the 3 and 4). I'm a 7 hcp.

    Hi Jay, I believe Wilson were first to come out with this concept about 17 years ago. They called it the FyBrid..... it had a 19.5º head and was supposed to be an optimised hybrid/fairway wood. Even Padraig Harrington sung it's praises when he won his Open Championships back in 2007/8.
    However, my question regarding all of this is: what about the recent trend for 7 and 9 woods? Don't really understand why you would go down so low.... Personally use high launching hybrids and they seem to work just fine ........ ho hum!!

      When swing speed reduces quite a lot having the loft in the hands that would naturally follow suit in the longer irons but in a fairway head, allows the golfer to get the distance and stopping power back due to shaft lengths and CG position difference. This is only realised though if, you have control of strike with the longer shaft 👍🏻 👍🏻

As in I went to a fitting with that club and G430 4H looking to fill out the top of the bag. Nothing could beat the Hywood 3+ - I hit it straighter and longer (!) than other 3W and 5W. Similar story with the G430 4H. Just goes to show you really need to get fit. At a previous driver fit I swore I'd end up in a G430 10K but Smoke AI beat that (and Cleveland). Go figure...

    2%, there are a lot of 15 HCP golfers who cannot hit the ball that far with a driver!
    As a fairly average swing speed player (80 mph with a 7i) I find the idea of the Hy Wood to be interesting. I know from experience that a 3h in my hands produces too flat a ball flight so I go 5i, 4h (set at 23 degrees), 7w, 5w, driver. i could see the hy wood replacing the 7w

As I swing @85mph for 3 hybrid to 5 wood, I would be very interested in you doing full reviews of the Cleveland fairways, hybrids and hy-woods. Cleveland is high-quality and great value for money, so am looking at getting into these. With my swing speed, I thinking 3+ hy-wood, 4 hybrid, 5 hybrid - I’m not keen on fairway woods as I don’t hit them consistently enough. Wondering also if 4-Hywood would be worthwhile for gapping.

    I have a question, what golf balls are you using? Apparently you need specific type of golf ball to accurate spin numbers when using a track man or similar radar system. Is this the case?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  4 месяца назад

      Hi Geoffrey, you do need special balls, balls with metallic dots on or RCT balls that are designed to be used with an indoor radar system. Generally radar based systems are notoriously unpredictable and sensitive so commonly gives strange data.
      The special balls ping the doppler radar for more accurate results.
      Obviously this isn't great as golf balls do do different things and the chances of golfers using RCT balls as their gamer is slim at best.
      I used GCQuad which is a camera based system so doesn't have these sensitivity issues.
      My ball I use for all tests is the RB Tour premium ball from Mizuno (basically a Pro V1)

      Possibly so and it's been a pattern over the last x amount of years to continue to push for increased shaft lengths due to the added head speed and potential ball speed due to that. Although they win the launch monitor distance war, they don't win the functionality test 👍🏻

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  4 месяца назад

      Please enlighten 👍

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  4 месяца назад

      Horizontal (Bulge or Roll can never remember which one it is) is designed to offset Start direction to counter the natural gearing of the Ball from the 2 Centre of Gravties not impacting in line with each other. The Vertical has a similar effect on the top of the face, launches higher for the reduction in Spin, the Lower Strikes never really offset correctly. Hence why Ping has been working on their Vertical curvature or Spinsistency to create a more favourable launch and spin window.
      Did I miss anything out? 👍

    A longer hybrid shaft , same length as the Hywood, would they perform the same?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 месяцев назад

      Nope as the CG of the HyWood is similar to that of the fairway wood. To override the CG on the hybrid, you'd actually have to increase ball speed so that it peaks higher but it would have to be far longer than that of the fairway wood which would have severe strike uncertainty 👍🏻👍🏻

    I had the previous Hywood, which was 18° - I think it was a 3+. That's the same loft as my 5-wood, but with the shorter shaft the Hywood came up...well, shorter. And the Hywood wasn't any easier for me to hit or to control. Now obviously that's my own personal experience and comes with the caveat that 5-wood is a club I'm very comfortable with hitting full, shaping, and gripping down and taking a bit off. In general, a shorter shaft will lead to better control - I just didn't see any benefit with this particular club for me.

    Is hywood only available in 20 degrees? If so, comparing to 5w lofted up to 20 degrees limits the 5w adjustability? I know you kept dynamic loft comparable for the tests, but realistically you could easily strengthen the 5w from 18 degrees static to 16.5 which would increase the gapping potential, assuming descent angle isn't compromised? Is hywood only a club for the 20 degree loft part of the bag?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Paul, the HyWood is available in 3+ and 4+ lofts (17 & 20). All of the Hybrids/HyWoods and Fairways are fixed heads so no adjustability options are available. This is the only negative I have about the whole range, its poor flexibility loft adjustment. 👍

    • @ToddRichmond
      @ToddRichmond 5 месяцев назад

      @@AskGolfNut I think for the target audience, variability in strike means the utility of adjustment is limited (along with a highly variable gapping due to mishits). For a better player who often swings flatter and wants to tweak loft and lie, these aren't the club. They are $50-$70 less than Ping/Callaway/etc. No free lunch. Love the channel btw, appreciate that you do lower speed swings for those of us that have lost a few mph.

    • @AskGolfNut

      No not at all, in fact it may make the 5 iron easier to hit but it would also compromise it's ball speed and then suffer with peak height and descent angles, may even carry less than the 6 iron and ruin it's flight 👍🏻

      @philstevens9914 hi Phil, nope definitely not trying to draw the ball, just trying to hit it fairly straight but left the face a fraction open on most shots, it's not massive at that distance whatsoever. My feet play little to no part in my aim, I aim by shoulder alignment. I can move my feet in different directions and still hit the same shot so for my personally as long as the feet are somewhere near sensible then it's shoulders for me all day long 👍🏻

    I always think it a waste of time pros or low handicappers hitting these ‘new’ clubs coz you generate so much club head speed. Get a couple of 16-20 handicappers to hit them and then you will get a more representative idea of what these clubs are like and whether they differs from their own clubs 💁‍♂️

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  4 месяца назад

      Hi Robert, the only issue with running highish handicap golfers in the datasets are the elongated nature of the test. To remove the variance to determine the actual differences between clubs, they have to run a lot longer datasets and especially too long for a love video as such. The process around us pros testing is that we can more quickly see any differences between the clubs in question. This test was different to that of my normal review, where I test the forgiveness of a club by purposely striking from different parts of the face and showing how well it keeps ball speed up from toe, low and heel strikes 👍🏻

      That's not technically true and even different mats have different properties. Absolutely agree that standard very tight packed driving range mars very much so give the golfer a false sense of achievement, and it's marketed towards that for certain. But my custom divot mat doesn't allow ground first strikes to show very well whatsoever so it definitely does depend on the mat in question 👍🏻
