Story behind the song:
There are few "hooks" in the movie-music world that are as grabby as the Bourne Identity Soundtrack riff (starts at 0:29). Like the movie series, its intensity commands attention. We just had to figure out a way to use it. In our usual style, we thought we'd create an "action movie soundtrack" that combined this and a piece of classical music. In the early 1700's Antonio Vivaldi wrote a concerto for an instrument that was then largely "undiscovered" by the music world -- the cello. Among the first cello solo pieces ever written, Vivaldi was gutsy enough to write it for not only one, but TWO solo cellos and string orchestra. With no "action movies" in the 1700's, this piece was probably the closest you could get to one. It has intense and exciting moments between beautiful lyrical moments. It was this piece, among others, that got Steven (the cello guy) excited about classical music-it was one of the first pieces he played with orchestra.
90% of this tune was written in 3 days. We worked on it day and night because it was so enjoyable to write.
This video features Steve's newest cello "Thor." It was handmade for Steven by Dawson Swan out of STEEL. Dawson is an amazing artist. This cello inspired a lot of this music and video. ALL the percussion sounds you hear were created by THIS cello. Thank you Dawson!

2:53 After so many years, this is still my favourite piece from The Piano Guys. The break here with the change in arrangement and the unexpected visual of a painist playing a grand piano and a cellist playing a cello on an open platform on a train traveling across a beautiful landscape never fails to astound me. The music, the visuals and the arrangement just worked so incredibly well together. I am just awed that the production was so polished when this was still a "hobby" thing.
That shift at 2:50 is just too good. I love the entire song but this bit is just out of this world.

its cool to look at, but they fake it, eliminate all sound from the setting, and play it in a studio and set it up so it looks like they play it at the setting.

I saw them play this last night in Tampa. It was great!!
I missed the Piano Guys when they came through Tampa last time, but caught this show.
To those who may be wondering... If you like their videos, if you think they play with passion and love of their music, it's all true. My wife and I agreed it was one of the best concerts either of us has ever seen.
They pretty much sold out one of Tampa Bay's largest concert halls. When it was over, even the ushers were bemoaning the fact that it was not a multi-night engagement, as they would gladly see every show, as would I.

I think that they need to have a high-speed camera re-shoot the piano portion from 2:10 through 2:32. Jon Schmidt's hands move faster than a regular camera is able to capture. Can you say "AWESOME"

is it just me or does this seem like one of their most technically challenging music thus far. Lots of comments on Jon's nifty playing but look at Steve's fingers fly on the cello!! i can play piano myself but cello n stringed instruments is just hard !! major thumbs up 👍👍
