I have one and I love it for expensive coffee. Don't want to brew 4 cups at a time on a standard technivorm and waste those expensive rare beans. Great little machine, extremely fast and perfect for a single user. recommended! My v60 and goose neck kettle now collect dust. The technivorm single cup brewer is just so much quicker and simpler to use on daily basis than manual pour over. I usually give a quick stir during the first 15-20 seconds to for more even extraction.

I used to pull away the brewer lid and enjoy watching the coffee bloom, but then I had found ; (by testing with my IKEA thermometer) that if I do that the temperature inside the brewing cone does not get over 87 degrees Celcius but when i keep it on it gets almost 92 Celcius. Recommended range is between 88 and 96 i think.

Could you possibly do an annual review of all the sca brewers compared? Like the Bunn heat and brew, Cuisinart, Kitchenaid pour over etc. I think that would be fun. I’m sure it would bring a lot more viewers and would be extremely helpful for a lot of folks looking for a sca brewer. Thank you for your time.

I have this machine. I’m drinking the coffee from it right now. It does make a solid good cup of coffee.
The problem with making only one cup with larger machines is the coffee grinds do not come in contact with the water long enough to make a great cup of coffee. This machine solves that problem with a very small drip hole. You can still use a larger coffee pot to make a great 1 cup of coffee though: just leave the pot off he machine, put a timer for 4 minutes, and when the timer is up just place the pot back on the machine; the coffee will pour out of the machine very quickly, as it’s meant to brew large batches of coffee.
For this machine make sure that you clean the black plastic part that holds the filter each time you use it to ensure you got every speck of grounds out, and that it pours freely; if you do not, the filter will clog, even with just one fine ground of coffee. Once you learn that rule, you will be blessed with much better coffee than any Keurig or one-cup automatic coffee maker.

Trouble is that it's not that much cheaper than pot version (8-10 cups) ....just a bit smaller.
Also people have come up with work arounds before making your coffee like heating a small amount of liquid so the metal pipe and the cup is already hot.

One thing I never see anyone doing or is even mentioned is to “wash” the filter before adding the coffee to brew to remove that “paper” taste. If I neglect to (my coffee maker is 40 feet from my sink), I can taste the filter. I’m using Melita unbleached bamboo filters. Or was. Ran out during pandemic lockdown and stitched my own from unbleached cotton and over 2 years later still use them exclusively. I made a batch of wine years ago and used a home wine filtration appliance without knowing to run clear water through it first and totally ruined the entire batch as I could taste the paper.

@@SaidAlSeveres: I’ve had a number of them over the years and I’ve found that they don’t filter out the fine debris that drops to the bottom of the pot making it muddy to drink. Mine just has a glass carafe (actually, I prefer it - call me crazy), but since all thermos-type carafes retain that last little bit anyway, it would make not much difference as you can’t get that last bit of coffee anyway. During the pandemic lockdowns, I was short on paper filters and made some from thicker weave unbleached pure cotton “shop towels”. They work very well too, however, not pretty after a few uses although they could be bleached but I didn’t bother.

@@SaidAlSeveres : The only tips I have are 1) get yourself a proven coffee maker. Not only do they continue to work well Year after year but have a better chance of brewing a good cup because they will attain the optimum brewing temperature; 2) put the filter into the “funnel” and fill it with water a few times to rinse out the paper taste; 3) a decent coffee can be found at Costco. Yes, it’s nice to be able to spend $30, $40 lb for freshly roasted beans from the micro-roaster down the road but not totally necessary unless you’re a total coffee snob; 4) buy beans and grind them yourself prior to brewing. And remember: a quality coffee maker can brew a decent cup from mediocre beans. My Technivorm is still working and it will be 16 or 17 years old this spring.

It might be tolerable with a proper shower screen, but it's way overpriced for what it is. The whole point of pourover is control, right? This just pours in one spot. And does it allow for dialable temps? One could easily just use a small pan and thermometer, boil some water, stir in coffee right as it cools to the preferred brew temp, and then pour it through a paper filter. It saves a gadget and counter space and things that can break, and is knowledge that can work anywhere.

I really don't get point of this. You can just as easily get one cup with regular size machine. It's an overpriced kitchen gadget, I call it gadget because it's that redundant.
It's pretty much same size as regular coffee maker, it has less features, less utility and it's more expensive.
If you get a machine where you can turn hotplate off, you can even do this same trick with normal one.
