When I was a kid I would ride the bus downtown with my older brothers and sisters to Satellite Records which was connected to Stax Studios where Otis recorded. I don't remember a lot but I was told we met Otis, Issac Hayes, Booker T and others that would hang out in the store between sessions.
Later in my teens there would be Sunday jams at the Overton Park bandshell with all of the Stax and Sun Records crew along with whatever traveling shows were in town. Best I remember was when Zepplin was in town and being there watching Jimmy Page on stage with legendary Soul musicians and old school bluesmen like Muddy Watters and Furry Lewis. Jimmy hardly played because he was too busy fan boying over who he was on stage with. He even mentioned in an interview that it was a high point in his career being accepted on that little stage in the park in Memphis.

That is a great story! This is why I weed through comments, though I knew this particular song might have some special fans watching! Thank you for sharing.

Of course I loved your reaction Lizzie! Always do🤗 And I haven't heard this song before either. I don't think it got a lot of airplay back then. I was in my sophomore year of college when Sitting on the Dock of the Bay came out in January of 68. I was in the college rec center with a bunch of other students when the song began playing. It became very quiet. Otis had just died in the plane crash in December. It was eerie cause we all knew he died near a dock on a lake. And this song, Cigarettes and Coffee, reminded me of something I learned about Otis Redding. He was deeply devoted to his wife and family. Whether he was traveling overseas or in the US, He would always call home every day. Now that's love!❤ Best wishes Lizzie!

This is on my short list and yes
brings back memories of stopping at a coffee shop on the way home LATE.
Omelette and coffee and cigarettes with THE ONE

    Thanks for the memories.

I give this a 'like' for the name of the song alone.
Those two were a morning ritual for me.

Lizzie I'd love to see your reactions to two completely different tracks by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. An instrumental called "Albatross." This is a complete chill out track. And Peter's masterful version of a Little Willie John 1955 track called "Need Your Love So Bad." #2, which is slightly over 7 minutes long.
