We don't care what your name is boy, we'll never turn you away! That sums up the people of Liverpool in one sentence! Thank you Gerry for the songs that made our city the envy of the world.
This morning we sung this at my Grandad's funeral at his request.I'd never heard of these guys before but it seems fitting as he immigrated from Liverpool to New Zealand 70~ years ago. I had the chance to play it for him a few hours before he went. It's been on heavy rotation the last few days.
So Sorry to hear of your passing. I remember Gerry and The Pacemakers on the ED Sullivan show in my teens back in the 1960s. What a beautiful voice and beautiful ballads. See you soon Gerry with guitar in hand.
Two years ago December, I had an opportunity to visit Liverpool There was an ambiance, a palpable warmth, just like Gerry wrote. The Beatles could not have come from another place.
"This land's the place I love, and here I'll stay" Gerry passed away in Liverpool - his home! Aside from a great 60's singer and hit-maker, incredibly under-rated songwriter and guitarist. This song is simply beautiful - and singing about Liverpool before John and Paul (Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane) - now that's something that should be noted! Thanks for the great music Gerry and the Pacemakers.
@@Willowsmum Only a few moments ago did a similar sentiment occur to me. Will there ever be another time in pop music like the one we had the good fortune of experiencing? Will that historic cycle come 'round again?
As a tiny child my Dad played this record and tons of others, every Sunday morning. A touch of sadness with some very happy memories of my Wonderful Dad. Thank you Gerry and RIP.

Ferry cross the Mersey, Don't let the sun catch you crying, You'll never walk alone are just a few of my favorite songs you sang. You will be missed by a lot of people. RIP and you definitely will never walk alone.
Certainly one of the most beautiful songs of the entire British Invasion! So is "I'll Be There" too, which Bobby Darin's original doesn't even touch. A great time to be alive-- RIP Gerry and thanks for contributing to the soundtrack of my life!
A true Mersey side star, just loved your music and stage performances. So many thanks for the entertainment you have given. Condolences to your family.........xx
I've been in Liverpool for half a year. I love Liverpool, especially her music and football. My two favorite songs are yours,Gerry,Ferry cross the mersey and You 'll never walk alone! RIP Gerry!
I once heard Paul McCartney say he wished he had written that song. I understand why. The lyrics speak about accepting and loving one's life, and loving one's neighbor. But it does so in an understated way, which I believe makes it even more powerful. At the end where Gerry does the final, "Here I'll stay," the instrumental ending (with the great George Martin producing) is music that makes you visually think of a ship crossing the Mersey, doing what it is intended to do, and Gerry being at peace with his life. Since we all desire that, I think that's one reason the song continues to resonate so deeply.
Noooo, January 3rd, 2021, our weary world just lost the great Gerry Marsden. Forever in our hearts, thank you Gerry fro the greatest music and best of times!

I was six years old when I first heard 'Ferry 'cross the Mersey'. I instantly fell in love with British pop, and I will never lose that thanks to Gerry Marsden. Much love from Oz.
This song is a warm rush of nostalgia for me as it's one of the first songs I remember hearing as a boy. There is something about the sound and the chord structure that has taken on a dream like quality over the decades since I first heard it.The kind of song you dial in on your radio late at night coming in on a wave of static from some far off place.

It's a song about home. You dont have to live near the Mersey to get the song. Such a sweet, beautiful tune. :)
@@MThyne-oz2zu Agree it's about home. There is something special about Merseyside in the 60's but it captures something for us all. And as another sweet beautiful tune puts it, Home Is Where The Heart Is (Elvis Presley)...
@@deborahshah9536 Well said. The Mersey beat period was something special. But this song, and I don't know why, always moves my bladder closer to my eye :). Someday I'll make it to Liverpool and Manchester. See The Cavern and the old location of the Hacienda in the same trip. Take care!
good on u pet
One of my favourite songs of all time. I used to listen to this all the time during my childhood.

Another Great One Gone,
RIP Gerry...
I was fortunate enough to cross the mersey with my late father, I'll always remember it, he sang the song and made it so special.. Little did we know that he would be dead in about 4 years with the big C he was 41, my life changed in a heartbeat, that's why this song means so much, RIP DADDY LOVE YOU ♥️
Majorette UK Thanks for that touching story! I love hearing stories about the good old days with family and friends. Your story touched my heart. THANK YOU.
What a lovely tribute to your ad god bless hun
...yeah lovely story...lovely memories for you...✌🏻
R. I. P. Gerry Gave us so much pleasure for so many years. Your music will never be forgotten.
I always thought Gerry had one of the most beautiful and soothing voices ever.
53 years later and I still love this song.
RIP Gerry Marsden 1942-2021 😥😥
You'll never walk alone 💔
So Sorry to hear of your passing. I remember Gerry and The Pacemakers on the ED Sullivan show in my teens back in the 1960s. What a beautiful voice and beautiful ballads. See you soon Gerry with guitar in hand.
Hello Lucia, how is things going with you ?
Two years ago December, I had an opportunity to visit Liverpool There was an ambiance, a palpable warmth, just like Gerry wrote. The Beatles could not have come from another place.
I’m 77…saw the movie in the theatre. That song has stayed with me and brings fond memories.
No one sounds like Gerry Marsden, he is irreplaceable.
I was born in 1965 when this song was released, next year this song will be 60 years old, and i still listen to them every weekend
RIP Gerry, you gave us some of the greatest sounds of the 60s and beyond...
I’m 66 and heard this song as a kid. Thanks to the internet I can continue to enjoy it.
Such a mild and soothing song.
RIP Gerry Marsden, A Scouser but respected by us Mancs.
What is that mean?
He's a Liverpudlian who wouldn't get beaten up in Manchester.
My mum was from Formby and loved him- I didn’t know he died recently 😢
A proud Manc myself Paul. God bless the Great Scouser! xx
Amen to that 😇 🙏 💯 Ty for sharing ☺
Gerry & the pacemakers and the Beatles were part of the Mersey sound
Life will never be this good again. I’m glad I was born early enough to have these memories. Wonderful times.
it was a seaport and the sailors brought lot o records from u s
@@Willowsmum Only a few moments ago did a similar sentiment occur to me. Will there ever be another time in pop music like the one we had the good fortune of experiencing? Will that historic cycle come 'round again?
There was no voice like his. Loved it.
@Hello David how are you doing
Woke up with this song on my mind this morning. Must be true that in our later years we regress and remember our youth and simpler times.
As a tiny child my Dad played this record and tons of others, every Sunday morning.
A touch of sadness with some very happy memories of my Wonderful Dad.
Thank you Gerry and RIP.
I heard this song when I was 13 years old in Malaysia. Now, living in Macau, walking tru You Tube, saw this page and decided to hear one of my favourite songs. Sad to know that he has gone. May God bless your soul.
I love Malaysia!!!!! I try to make a visit often
Meine 73 Jahre geraten dabei fast in Vergessenheit. Danke
This is a treasure. Who lived this time will remember the grandeur of it.
Thanks for the good moments!
Takes me back instantly to a happier golden time …
Ferry cross the Mersey, Don't let the sun catch you crying, You'll never walk alone are just a few of my favorite songs you sang. You will be missed by a lot of people. RIP and you definitely will never walk alone.
Hello Martha, how is things going with you ?
So very, very sad, I danced at the Mecca Locarno in the 60's to his music, R.I.P, Gerry, you were one of my favourite Liverpool Groups.
Beautiful song sung by the one and only Gerry Marsden.
Nobody else could sing this song like Gerry.
Gerry you missed and loved.
RIP. ♥️❤️♥️
Hi Elissa
R.i.p Gerry Marsden will never be forgotten
We had some talent in this country in the 60s.buzzing!
got goosebumps! remember this the first time round living up north, though a Londoner - manager was Eppy! Fab Fab time
Love this song. I miss my childhood. My grandchildren will never know the feelings I had.
My late brother and I loved Gerry and the Pacemakers. Olive from South Africa. It always reminds md of him he had a beautiful voice❤
Noooo, January 3rd, 2021, our weary world just lost the great Gerry Marsden.
Forever in our hearts, thank you Gerry fro the greatest music and best of times!
Memories of better times.
No drugs. No gimmicks. Wholesome, innocent.
Great vocals + wonderful and evocative instrumental arrangement.
No drugs?
You obviously missed who was presenting this episode of Top of the Pops.
These old songs are unforgettable. They touch a place in my heart.Memories from the past. People I've known. I love Gary and the Pace Maker's. Heartwarming always.
I was born in 1960 . Hearing this everyday in the 60s was so kool. I would sing it in school a lot..love this group..RIP.GERRY MARSDEN. YOUR SONGS WILL LIVE FOREVER.
I love the lyric " people around ever corner they seem to smile and say we don't care what your name is boy we will never turn you away" If all people could all live that way today
Jim Roberts true!
If it was safe enough to do so, I'm sure more would.
Jim Roberts it describes the people of Liverpool or better yet Merseyside very well.
How true! People in this country have forgotten, what it says on the Statue of Liberty.😔💒
Jody Wilke this song has nothing to do with the USA.
I was six years old when I first heard 'Ferry 'cross the Mersey'. I instantly fell in love with British pop, and I will never lose that thanks to Gerry Marsden.
Much love from Oz.
I was about the same age and also was a huge fan of the British Invasion. Sad to hear of Gerry's passing.
Also one of the first songs I remember hearing when I was quite little, so I can relate to the experience you describe.
My experience too!
@blueborn Very well said !!
Beautiful description thanks
Yes
Gerry's voice is so beautiful and the songs were amazing!
