Beautiful memories, lost youth, better life, no mobile phones or social media. Life was so good and simple things in life gave us so much joy. Thank you for these beautiful memories with this movie and song. I am sooooooo grateful that I grew up in that era. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
We have had our days that can never be bettered by anything today that could recall a connection with a heartfelt emotion we have with those days 😊😊😊😊😊😊
I was lucky enough to have gone to an old school like the one portrayed in the movie. Primary and secondary. These clips have just brought the memories flooding back. Some of the best days of my life ❤❤❤
This unforgettable film should be shown in every classroom around the world, so that everyone learns that tolerance, education and respect have no time limit to be taught... Today is Teachers' Day in Brazil! Congratulations to everyone! 🤩
Totally agree not only a classic but brings to light no matter where you come from you can always succeed.especially when time were so different then.go out and grab your goal.❤xx
I taught world history and had some of the typical troublemaking teenagers who thought they were the center of attention.(Fortunately, they were the minority.) One of my students had seen the movie somehow and he told me that I should show it to the whole class. If they don't remember dates and specific laws and tariffs, I'll live. If they learned the constant themes of nationalism, imperialism, religious fervor, disparities between the wealthy and the poor, themes that have marched us to war since time immemorial, then I am grateful for every moment I spent as a teacher. To all teachers everywhere, thank you. To teachers in Texas and Florida who are having chains bind them from teaching the truth, I stand with you and pray that people come to their senses.
My mum took me to see this film along with Guess Whose Coming to Dinner? What a powerful, handsome, brave and talented actor Sidney Poitier was. We were both smitten and incredibly moved even though I was only eight at the time. Lulu's beautiful song still moves me to tears especially with the movie clips. I miss the 60's, Sidney Poitier and most of all my mum. God bless you both.❤
The controversy was about the timing, which follows a jazz format, but a pop cadence. Anyone who says she can't sing is freaking tone-deaf. Not a "phrase" but ACTUALLY tone deaf. As in, can't hear actual tonal range. This is a magnificent piece of music, and she performed the piece as it was intended. I am a professional vocalist, and I will tell you *point blank*, that it took a concerted effort to NOT fall into a 4/4 time, and throw off the composition. She did a magnificent job with this song, and the fact that it is STILL a classic... *to this very day*... is a testiment to her vocals. (on a phone... edited for spelling typos)

In 1967 when this film was first shown, I was a seventeen year old student. I went to see the film and fell instantly in love with Mr. Poitier! That love still lives 56 years later and every so often I come to RUclips to listen to the wonderful song and relive the memories. Thank you, Mr. Poitier. You are legend! Amazing film, powerful performance. Mr. Poitier is so charismatic and his role in the film is so inspirational also!
This song and it's lyrics... most definitely are affecting; even after all those years... Mr. Sidney Poitier is a classic! Rest in peace, Sir, with love...😊
I had the biggest crush on Sidney Poitier. He was so handsome and a class act. I was 9 years old when this movie came out. Rest in peace 🙏 Mr. Poitier. ❤
They don't make movies as character driven as To Sir With Love anymore. Now it's all action-heroes, super-heroes (for kids masquerading as adults), and special effects. We are in one of the worst eras of film making of all time. Perhaps the worst. And it's not going away any time soon. And please, NO MORE dinosaur movies.
At the end of my teaching exchange year in 1987 from Albany Oregon to an all girls comprehensive school in Coventry England I put a slideshow together of me and students set to this classic song. I was 36 then and am now 74. I get choked up hearing this song every time.
This movie just shows us what a great teacher can accomplish, and the influence he or she can have on students and the world. Teachers, great teachers are to revered!
R.I.P. Sidney Poitier. He's one of the greatest actors of all time. Lulu sang her heart out on this song. This is the theme song from the 1967 movie To Sir, With Love. which starred Mr. Poitier and Lulu.
I'm 72, watched this movie 1968 in East-Germany where I was born. England was out of reach for us .. But this movie - titled in Germany "Junge Dornen"(Young Thorns) - touched me so deeply... I was a tough young teenager in those days and had tears in my eyes. Just as today as an old man ... Why?
I cry my eyes out every time I see this beautiful film. I adore Mr Poitier. I also praise anyone who works as a teacher, they don’t get the respect they deserve in the US.
Yeah, they're helping seven year old girls identify as boys. Great work nowadays. And so many brave teachers are speaking out against this false garbage.
I cry just listening to the song. This movie was probably the best movie ever made that made a statement. I haven’t seen it in decades but now I’m going to have to find it on my movie apps and watch it again. You would think society would have gotten the message of this movie, but they didn’t. What a shame and missed opportunity for a change we all just dismissed.

Brilliant! Not only did I fall in love with this movie and adored Sydney Poitier but this song touched my life in a personal way…in 1968 as I was being wheeled to recovery after giving birth to my first born (a son) this song played on the hospital sound system and gave a new meaning to the words “To Sir With Love”…and it brings back that moment in time whenever I hear it! 💕
But you have...Great to see that you like some others appreciate it. Especially when he rips the letter at the same time the guitar twangs at 2:34 sec mark, is excellent...BRAVO Well Done.

One of Sidney Poitier many fine performances as a Hollywood movie actor and the music theme is just as GOOD.... To me, Sidney Poitier will ALWAYS be a class act...RIP

I don’t recall ever anything bad said about this man while he was alive or after his death . I loved all of his movies .
Listening to this song once again, thinking of my old school days, what a shock I had when I left school, as back in the 70’s there was no one to help you, if you never got all your eduction for one reason or another because life happens. As John Lennon Said, And boy did it happen to me, when my mum went into hospital, my Dad went to pieces, my sister left home to live with her boyfriend all at the same time, I just cried because I had to learn everything my mum did and go to school, So school ended I went to work, as there was no college which I never thought I needed anyway, I ended up wasting my life, Because I have loads of regrets, But have learned to live with them, Because Life Happens 😢But this film really makes me cry because you don’t think you are that bothered about school, But I would go back in a heartbeat ❤

An enormous Anerican Number 1, the best-selling single of 1967 apparently and so emotionally significant to so many people across the globe since, this wonderful song should be Lulu's anthem, rather than the raucous, upbeat Shout!! In my humble opinion, anyway. 3 cheers for Glasgow's favourite daughter, Lulu!
This is the song, I always dedicate to my older sister, the biggest teacher of my life. she passed 2 days ago. I have been playing this song, I am completely broken....don't know how I will keep going without her love, sweet voice, advice, a kind word. My life will so much different without her. Te Amo Mami con todo mi corazon! Te extrano!! This song IS FOR YOU TO HEAVEN!!
An unbeatable combination of unmistakable class and talent being shared by Sidney and Lulu in this heart wrenching and timeless classic that has marked this film as one of the very best,
So grateful for these memories. Fantastic movie, and song with so much feeling. 68 years old and I remember it as if it was yesterday. Definitely a favorite!
My brother took me to see this movie sooo many years ago. My brother is gone now but the memories of him taking me to see it and the wonderful theme of this outstanding film will linger til I'm gone. Many thanks to Mr Portier in this amazing role. He was incredible.
This movie and this song gives me chills everytime and am heartened to see such an exemplary performance from a true gentleman Sidney Poitier and the kids back then..Lulu just adds the icing to the cake with that beautiful song! May Sidney rest in peace! #greatman#greatactor!
I went to a Maggie Bell & Stone the Crows concert in Glasgow many years ago. Lulu was the guest singer, I was totally blown away, she was totally awesome. She was wasted on pop songs, she gave Maggie Bell a real run for her money. She was Fantabulous.
Both e the film and the song were and still are today a fantastic memory of growing up in the greatest time of all, thank you to Lulu and Sydney for your rolls.
My favorite movie as a teenager at the time. My aunt took me to this movie and I fell in love with Sydney Poitier. And Lulu. Was such a beautiful movie. Meant a lot to me. This song was such a hit. And still is. !!
Wow, that made me cry. A lot of memories were invoked. I was 8 when my Mon took us to the theater to see it. It made an impression on us, for sure. Not long after I brought a cat home (as usual) We kept this one. We named him Sir. I loved that cat more than anything. I hadn't heard this song in years, and to see the movie clips is such a great way to start my Saturday. Thank you Sir! or madam .. Sir fit so well, LOL.
The Best movie ever made that shows our troubled youth and one teacher who dared to changed their minds. The student's needed a strong teacher who could guide them through school and out into the real world. In the end the student's gave much admiration for Sir's tough love. Great song by Lulu. (Sydney)

My fav of all movies. The script, the acting, the setting, the music. And after seeing it SO many times I've only just learned what a "barra" is. When he asks Denham on the steps "what's a barra?" I could never makeout the reply. British slang for handcart (barrow) used by a constermonger selling fruit & veges in a market.

Something about this song and the video keeps bringing me back.
This is a true story ,Great song and Great movie of a black Guyanese teacher who change the lives of students in England for the better.
Thank You for the information.
I never knew it was based on a true story?!!
Thank you, no it's a beautiful moment, beautiful time; lost, but remembered very much ! Beautiful time. Thank you for these memories!
My mom loved this movie. She has been gone over 33 years. Listening to this song makes me cry all these years later. I love you mom. Now and always.
Sorry for your loss, my mom passed away 43 years ago in March 1980 I was 12 years old when she passed away.
So grateful for these memories. Fantastic movie, and song with so much feeling. 68 years old and I remember it as if it was yesterday. Definitely a favorite!
In September 2022 this song is still miles and miles better than any of the total crap that passes as "music" nowadays....
In 2023 ...." It's still miles better☺️ than any of the total crap💩 that passes as music .... nowadays 🤨"
shut your boomer ass LMAO
My brother took me to see this movie sooo many years ago. My brother is gone now but the memories of him taking me to see it and the wonderful theme of this outstanding film will linger til I'm gone. Many thanks to Mr Portier in this amazing role. He was incredible.
This movie and this song gives me chills everytime and am heartened to see such an exemplary performance from a true gentleman Sidney Poitier and the kids back then..Lulu just adds the icing to the cake with that beautiful song!
May Sidney rest in peace! #greatman#greatactor!
Wow the most beautiful version I have ever heard. She was amazing
I went to a Maggie Bell & Stone the Crows concert in Glasgow many years ago. Lulu was the guest singer, I was totally blown away, she was totally awesome. She was wasted on pop songs, she gave Maggie Bell a real run for her money. She was Fantabulous.
Brings back good memories of school. I adored my english teacher, which made me try harder. I'm glad he was my english teacher. Great movie and song!
Both e the film and the song were and still are today a fantastic memory of growing up in the greatest time of all, thank you to Lulu and Sydney for your rolls.
Kérlek írd meg a film címét🙂Üdvözlettel Budapestről🙂
Loved this movie and this is a great song by Lulu. Great cast!!!
(Sydney)
I meant to put Sydney's name after Sir. The song is still performed by Lulu.
Sidney Poitier just radiates class. He’s right up there with Cary Grant and George Clooney.
You mean they're right up there with him
Meh, not George Clooney…I would say Gregory Peck instead.
Um bela homenagem aos mestres eha todos que por estupidez sofrem tolo preconceito gosto do artista principal dos outro as Tam bem e do filme
Sidney is better than them.....
Sidney is above all of them….
Im from bath beach bkln n this song my mother loved n shared w me( not to mention movie) n i gta tell all of u it helped me overcome racial bias n 😢racism. Music brings back memories.
I could watch this movie over and over again!
