I echo that sentiment Tony, Gerry Marsden and the Pacemakers were all a wonderful band. And Ferry Cross the Mersey is certainly a genuine sentiment of the pride Gerry and the people of Liverpool displayed toward their beloved city. My grandfather was born in Newcastle and came to the US as a young lad. I always had a great affinity and liking of all the British bands, that being the Beatles, the Animals, and of course Gerry and his Pacemakers. He was a fine man, and a true humanitarian. May he rest in peace.

So good to hear. I lived in Liverpool in 1975. This San Franciscan learned that every word of Gerry's song rang true. I tell my son (I'm 65 and my son is 35), the people in Liverpool had so much heart, kindness and gentleness. You could hear it in the way they spoke. I said I could always hear their hearts in their voices. Beautiful people.

He said he wrote it for his then girlfriend after they split, she loved it, they got back together and were married soon after (about 40 years ago). Great song. I had the privilege of seeing Gerry live many years ago at a concert in Sault Ste. Marie ON CANADA along with otners from the British Invasion. I must state Gerry was in my humble opinion the best performer. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity. Thanks for the music Gerry.

One of the songs that as an American makes me think of the UK and its amazing history. Very patriotic, but not chauvinistic. We all love the place we are from, but respect those who are from different places.

This song is great ,it reminds me of the time I spent in Liverpool as a young Royal Navy sailor in 1944
.Liverpool was my base on HMS Icarus I 03 when chasing U boats in the N Atlantic.Great time in a great city.Long Live Maggie

Gerry Marsden was one of my heroes in the 60s. What a sweet sound he and the Pacemakers came up with.
    God hold you close Gerry.
    Soundtrack of my youth 🎼🖤

Luved this group from the British Invasion & get goose bumps when I hear it just like I do with Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying. RIP Gerry Mardsen. Our generation is fading. 😔

The lyrics, the minor key. Just really haunting.
