New World: Aeternum Review - The Final Verdict

- New World: Aeternum hopes to streamline the main storyline of the game in order to better attract new players, which is especially important since the game is also now out on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, offering full crossplay between all platforms.
However, its central story is still quite uninspired. There is a lot of emphasis on gathering materials and the crafting system in the game. Plenty of players will find New World: Aeternum to be a great way to kill a couple of hours by just cutting down some trees.
Unfortunately, the endgame doesn’t have too much content, and once players have cleared all the dungeons, had their share of PvP, and finished the raid, they might be left wanting more.

WoW did it first and did it way better in 2004. No transmogs so people knew if your gear was shit before inviting you to a raid where you need BiS. No microtransactions. Just pure grinding up until the Chinese gold sellers gained traction. Then they had to add the cash shop to try and stop em

That’s what got me to buy it. So many good memory’s of the days playing RuneScape chatting on AIM with the homies. I only played WoW briefly never had a good enough PC to ever venture into playing PC games. But this game reminds me of RuneScape ALOT with a mix of some Skyrim and a little WoW
The game actually slaps, running around with the boys questing, leveling skills and doing pvp is great fun. The pvp is easily the best in all mmo's hands down

The guy didn't mention the story lines that come after the main scenario. So there is much more than he mentions for the end game. I'd say for the cost this mmo is certainly worth the money in what you get in return. It's easily at least an 8/10.

Turbod through the story to get to lvl 65. End game is so in depth its gorgeous, lore filled, fun.
The best MMO on console. 9/10.

Throne and Liberty is an amazing game but the combat is not totally my thing.
So i am thinking of getting new world. Sadly the character creator is abysmal. And i love the beauty of throne and liberty.

T&L is only a good game if you are going to 100% no life it. Drop rates from world bosses are shite and you get only so many chances if you don't play non stop.

@@McRotten bought new world a few days ago. I feel sad for people who play T&L instead of NW, it's really good! Leveling trade skills feels very rewarding.
We never played New World before. But me and my group managed to gather and play, really fun and nice game. Brightwood story, music and atmosphere is superb!
It's all downhill from there.

People need to stop comparing this newish game to something that been out for many years like WoW and ESO.
This game does have a lackluster end game but I’ve logged more than 60 hours doing all the small side stuff and I’m having a blast. Give it time. That’s the beauty of MMOs.
So many posts and comments on Reddit from people saying “well wow and eso have more content. So more = better”. Kinda easy when your game has been out over a decade. That’s like comparing any game from launch to end of life. Like say old call of duty games when they would release DLC packs. Give it time.

I disagree. Comparisons is what makes competing games try and outdo each other. Expecting newer games to not be compared to WoW and ESO is shortsighted and missing an opportunity.
When I started playing New world somewhat shortly after initial release, I thought it was a quite alright game. Played up to max lvl, dabbled a bit in expedition content, and then decided to go full-time lifeskilling, AKA chopping hella trees and selling the wood. This was decently entertaining for a few weeks, but the ingame market was terribly overflown with other people selling wood, and no one really bought it anymore. So I stopped playing after a while. The main problem for me was that I didn't really resonate with any particular weapon. Spear and bow was alright, but it didn't feel very fulfilling or satisfying to use. The only reason I kept logging on and keeping up with the game, was my hopes of them releasing a kind of double sword / Dagger dual wield weapon. When they announced that their next weapon was going to be a morning star (or flail? I don't know what it is exactly), I decided to stop playing altogether. Combat and lifeskilling had ceased to entertain me.
I grinded to level 54. After that, it got so stale. I'd love to go back.
There are 20 man raids that you forgot to speak about for dungeons that provide some really good high level gear.. it in fact does have what wow has

What he isn't mentioning WOW FF 14 requires 14 a month subscription fee that's on top of buying the game. At least this you just buy the game and if you want extra content you can buy it or purchase a battle pass . That's the reason I refuse to play WOW or final fantasy it's assine to force me to pay 14 a month plus 50 for the game itself. Then WOW makes you buy more content.

FF14 lets you play the base game and first two expansions, roughly 300+ hours of content, completely free. Don't have to buy the game, no monthly payment, free. That would be more content for free than the entirety of this $60 game
Disagree with the mediocre score of this video and several of the comments it made. As someone who never played it before, I'm absolutely loving the game on the PC with an Xbox controller and I'll probably get it for coop on the PS5 around Black Friday. I think so far the story is great. There is just so much to do, I couldn't be happier. Love the combat as well even if I'm used to many more buttons with MMOs. To get all this for just the price of the game and no subscription, I'm a happy camper. Usually agree with this site, but not this time. I give it a 9 out of 10. Maybe if I was jaded like the original PC crowd, it would score lower, but I'm not :-).
Everyone’s first play through is great until it’s not
Very fun game. I slept on it to play Throne and Liberty until i found out throne was p2w. Have to admit I’m enjoying New World more.
Great game. Really enjoying this on Xbox Series X. It feels like a mix between Assassin’s Creed UI and Fable type action gameplay in an MMO world. It’s a fun time and well worth the price of admission.
hey secret level brought me to this game and i’m thinking of purchasing it but i’m worried it may be a bit too hard to jump into if I work during the week what are your thoughts on playing casually

I work a lot and I have fun. Any MMORPG can be played casually. You'll get to the top eventually, it might take longer than people who have all day to play.
One more thing the combat feels like the sneaking attacks from metaphor then goes into turn base but the first part sneak combat is perfect to compare this combat to 😊 I still love it , it’s a pc port I always love and give pc ports a chance
New World had its time in it's first release and server after server was merged with less and less players.
These are some main problems I had with the game:
The economy and trading in the beginning was great, there were multiple market shut downs due to exploits and that ruined trading to a certain extent but it only succeeded because everyone was farming materials to level their crafting skills.
When a majority of the playerbase finishes leveling these skills the flow of items stops and gradually become more and more expensive for newer players.
There is no reason to farm early game dungeons or bosses so as time goes on it will be harder to find groups to do them. Eventually the market turns into overpriced items nobody can afford because farming gold on its own was horrible.
As you accumulate more items, you are limited by stash weight having to constantly micromanage items in the market to get them out of your stash. This also costs gold to list items and becomes expensive the more you do it.
Chest runs were dull and boring to farm every 24 hours to hopefully find an item with high enough quality to increase your gear score for every slot.
things get cheaper, less competition for mats, less players (less demand), and more supply. farming gold does get harder though with less players but they adapt and make farming gold not as necessary. the devs working on the econ do a great job compared to some of the other fields of development

Yeah but the persistent issues from before relaunch and the fact the game is run by awful out of touch devs makes it about a 6
I feel like this review was written by someone who didnt even get to max level and play some of the end game content. The high level PvE content in this game is some of the best I've ever played in any mmo.

It's not a bad game, especially with friends. The visuals are decent even though the LOD should be much further out in 2024, and the sound effects are excellent. I'd give it a 7.5/10 as far as mmorpgs go. The housing and crafting are definitely a plus. The story is as cookie cutter as it comes imo so don't play for the story. It's a laid back mmorpg where you won't ever feel pressured to keep up with the server which is just my cup of tea

gave the game a 2nd try, its a snooze fest. its like the developers didn't learn anything from the 2-3 years they were "fixing" it.
I wouldnt mind giving this a try but I've failed at so many open world games that Im scared to spend the money lol.
Couldnt stand Assasins creed and bought Elden Ring and didnt like the whole die and start from scratch thing the level of frustration was out of this world. I did like Diablo but I found it got extremely repetive and the grind to level up at a certain point just became far to time consuming.
This game looks different tho.

You can just PVE. I like PVP, but my buddy I play with wants us to be PVE, so I've done it to the max level and had fun.

Perfect time to jump in. This game felt so undercooked before this new update tbh. Now it feels more polished.

Every game goes through cycles of highs and lows until it finds the right formula for sticking around. WoW, ESO, etc. NW may or may not last as long. Only time will tell.
Guys what about to switch the characters between servers ? Can we switch between regions too ? From EU to NA server for example. I think i see something to klick in the store maybe for the server switch ? 🤔

First play through is always a lot of fun. After playing from dayone legacy to fresh start game gets old fast!. First play through is 8/10. Second was 3/10

Im on AP server for the ps5 , the towns further away from the main hubs are so dead and I'm about to quit the game for a low population. Dungeon queue takes ages even in peak timing. It isnt fun.

This game is still full of bugs. The current one is the "login blocked: suspicious software or corrupted install detected", which kicks you out of the game. This was a problem in the past and now after the latest update it's back. All files find no problem when you verify them. It's this moronic stupid easy anticheat program that starts up the game and might be missing a file. I want dumb software like this removed from games. This is not the way to catch bots.
Thats the problem with games now. There so focused on making a good story over good mechs n gameplay/endgame

Good grief, whoever is playing in this tutorial did the combat in NW no favors lol, were they playing with one hand? 31k Health, hip firing all the bow shots... Really, wth.
I don't know what it looks like on PC just on Series X and the game looks blurry. The developers need to release an update to fix the blur its terrible.
I had same, both on X and S. Be sure xbox is set to 4k output and HDR is OFF, and set bandwidth to high (no idea why) and do a hard reboot after being logged out for 5-10 minutes. It cleaned up the blur for me, super crisp now. I think this engine struggles with HDR and runs a lower res when its on. Xbox scaler is better than most TVs.
The game trailer looked great .. the game looks awful
Get your month or two of free entertainment, as the numbers plummet like it's hype. And all the PC people realize it's the same game, and the console players find out what that means.

Leveling is great, still lots of bugs, for example right now you can't buy "lost coatings" and they say nothing, Typical of these devs.
this game is never getting good again...i loved this game at launch, kept playing it throughout. Quit about 5 months ago, and it still feels like the same as its original days with boring end game content.
PvP is very good, but my problem with MMORPG PvP is I rather just play a competitive PvP game that is dedicated for PvP than some attempt at making a PvP system with an MMORPG system
To be fair Final Fantasy 14s main plot was awful - it only gets better with the expansions - it's hardly fair to compare base game story to a game with 6 expansions...... especially when the main story of 14 was so abysmal

This is a very LBTQ+ friendly game they even have a trans innkeeper, they are way in the end game in brimstone sands. Lots of people of color and women in prominent roles.
The game really has changed for the better. As you can play it entirely alone.

Throne And Liberty looks next gen while New World looks pre PS4 with character models and textures
Throne and Liberty is F2P and has a free BP that is easy to level and get nice rewards from while New World nickels and dimes for EVERYTHING and is an insulting $60 up front for an outdated ugly game
Throne and Liberty doesn't just give you mounts and pets, you BECOME them and ive already gotten 3 for free by playing
Throne and Liberty allows for 12 skills at a time while New World is 6 and none of them are impressive
Throne and Liberty has best in class in engine cutscenes with very minimal loading screens (none for fast travel) while New World can take up to 30 seconds to load and has some of the worst in game dialogue scenes ive ever seen in a game of the last few years.
Throne and Liberty while looking increible also runs great despite a city full of other players while New World has attrocious performance in city areas and for no reason considering how awful it does look.. im not kidding, my FPS is shockingly great despite how much incredible visuals and effects this game renders at all times.
The choice is clear, New World failed because the devs didnt listen and once again they didn't listen to their existing players and made a horrific product
F2p is a bit stretch when the best gear in the game can out right be bought. Also the crafters, cooking weapon making etc feels bland compared to new world which has a more in depth crafting mining and cooking system. It’s not perfect, for me the best crafting system is ff14 crafting.
