For the 250 hours I've played this game I actually really enjoyed my time. Lots of ridiculous problems at times, but there aren't many games that have ever given me the feeling New World did on release. I absolutely loved it.
These modern MMOs just don't do it for me. I'm glad people are enjoying them because I know there is usually backlash involving major studios and MMO dev. I still can only play LotRO, swgo, Ultima and wow Ascension.
A big thing for me in MMO's is the sound effects. I think NW nails is. From combat to harvesting, the sounds are stunning and satisfying. Im looking forward to the release
The melee sounds could use a bit of a boost imo. It sounds so quiet like small sticks hitting instead of an impact of a full swing from a huge sword. Other than that they all sound great.
One small correction. They changed the musket awhile back. It's no longer hitscan. It's a projectile like the bow but it's smaller and moves quicker. Gotta lead your shots no more hitscan cheese lol

Suggestion: A simple vid where you play from the start, and show the first x amount of hours of gameplay (edited down, of course).
My advice is wear headphones while mining. This MMO has best in class sound design for gathering skills. Swinging your pickaxe or axe at a rock or tree is so satisfying to hear.
honestly if the devs started listening to people it wouldn't have a short coming, but yeah if they continue the trend you are right. need more of a end game loop with pvp and pve

Correction: Archetypes arent just the weapons you start out with, more importantly, you get 3 trade skills set to lvl 50 from the get go and you should definitely pay this some mind, for instance skinning is way easier to level than mining so starting with 50 in skinning doesnt matter as much.
After being a guild leader on ESO in the past, I took a long break from MMO’s but came back on TL as a casual. And what I’ve found is that MMO players are just never happy. Millions are playing numerous MMO’s on the daily, but yet everywhere you look there’s complaining. Even under this video with the console version not even out yet. Both TL and NW are beautiful games that ppl can enjoy for a long time. Cave dwellers just need to get out more imo, it’s ridiculous.
Unfortunately, you can't enjoy NW for a long time because the current devs don't value your time. You can certainly enjoy the hell out of it for a short time though! It's such an amazing game but the shot callers are idiots and don't even play it. They desperately need to be replaced to retain the new player base.
There are very few games that are complete perfection (some come close, like Elden Ring), and until game reaches the absolute perfection, there has to be complaining and it is absolutely necessary that people complain about non perfect games. These multi billion dollar studios need to be delivering absolute perfection, because they have the money to do that and they have no excuses.
For those interested in using some magic, there are elemental gems you can slot into any weapon to convert part of its damage to an element, and that damage will scale with INT or FOC, depending on the element. So you can have a Fire Greatsword that scales a bit with INT for example. It will do a lot less damage than a STR or DEX build, but it's viable.
I was not going to get this game. But after hearing what you said about controller feel i change my mind. I seen gameplay about this game before was never interested. Same. I used to avoid this game like a plague cause it felt severely undercooked. I just couldn't relate to how people resonated with it. But after seeing these updates esp the foundations of movement and combat have been fixed it finally looks ready. They can finally focus on content after this build comes out.

Isn't this dev also making a lord of the rings game? Feels like this could be an amazing foundation for a lotr mmo. As great as lotro is, it feels ancient at this point and hasn't had many modern UX updates.
I think this is a great foundation. I don't mind new world, but I have zero connection to the world. If it was middle earth, I would gladly hang out and just fish for hours.

Great Sword and Bow combo was my favorite! Havent played NW in a couple years now, but I didnt follow any guides and it was one of the best MMO experiences I have had since GW2 launch (I started late and didnt play until a year+ from the disaster of a release)! There are problems with it, 100%. But I spent over 500 hours exploring, doing professions and getting into the mutated dungeons. I wish wars were easier to partake in, as I never got to be a part of one. PvP needs more of an incentive and more game modes, imo. I really hope this game doesnt die an the devs can get it together, cause I think the game has loads of unrealized potential.
Spear and Hatchet is still my favorite combo. Open with a javelin throw, whittle them down with axe throws, and then finish off with a big spear crit. Also tons of AoE and escape abilities. Plus it just REALLY feels good nailing a long-range hatchet throw.
I was completely planning to come back for console bc I already own the DLC but I am just enjoying deadlock too much to start grinding on New World again. Time to give my time to people I can actually trust to make a good game and keep it good.
I skipped T&L global release for this. There is such a charm in New World that I couldn't get rid off, but I stopped playing before The Angry Earth DLC due to my change of schedules at work. I've been trying to find a reason to hop back on not just to admire the scenery, but to actually have a purpose. I'm excited for it.
I'd recommend just enjoying the slow ride and not rushing to max level. A lot of people get burned out quickly because they rush to end game and miss out on a lot of the fun stuff this game has to offer at earlier levels.

This video does make me want to play again, even though I know it's sponsored fluff. Just going over all the weapons brings to mind the fun I had with knocking down enemies with the hammer and getting headshots with the bow. The only problem being, you know, once the honeymoon period was over and the endgame grind began it was kind of a mess. But the journey there really was something else.

Negativity will not get you far in life. I played this game every winter since launch. It has improved massively & was not bad when it came out, just had seriously bad mistakes with economy and such. Played the beta, it is like a whole new game. I agree some of the things you said, but it is still the best MMO in a decade & nothing else is worth playing in the genre unless you are already heavily invested in something older.

Someone tell this man that there is aim bot in the game now, so that really would change how he rates ranged weapons! Unless the drama about the inclusion of aim lock is being changed or scrubbed, I think this is rather important information to include in a combat review!
You mean hardlock? The most basic action rpg/soulslike mechanic that won't allow you to take headshots, trajectory aim and quick turns? It actually sounds detrimental in chaotic large scale pvp or against people who are good at maneuvering like in elden ring pvp.
@@neologismx Skill issue. Elden Ring has a tighter hardlock and yet with skill you can actually maneuver, align and trigger a backstab in PvP. In a large scale scenario in NW you'd be locked on to 1 guy which leaves you vulnerable to others. So why waste the extra input when you can be twitchy and handle multiple people at once? Head shot them all even if you're an absolute god. Possibilities that are hindered when hardlocked.

No hate, I was an invested player on release but I quit because basic things weren't working correctly. 1 - can I use mounts without paying for the DLC? 2 - can I swim? 3- is the economy completely broken still? 4 - are factions and territories balanced or do you still find mono factions servers? 5 - is questing and lvling up tedious as it used to be? 6 - would you pay the full price of the game being a new player today?
1 no 2 probably, it is being added with on 15th 3 on legacy it defintiely is dead 4 you will never be perfectly balanced with faction on any server so you cant find servers with one of the factions dead 5 it is improved a lot 6 yes
The other reply is useless. 1. No, mounts are behind Angry Earth expansion 2. Yes swimming will be added on 15th update 3. If you start on a fresh server it most definitely won't be? Legacy servers had their issues but eventually fixed. 4. That all depends on the server, I'd say they rotate between balanced and mono as people quit/companies leave the server 5. No lvling is far easier, don't need to do those dumb town boards on repeat. I think the main quest line basically gets you there 6. After 2k hours for £50? Absolutely, despite the crap the past few years
Paying for the base game and dealing with dupes and other bugs every patch the expansion is a slap in the face to all the players who beta tested a paid game not worth ever playing again
This is likely an effort to give the game new life which is a good thing I had a lot of fun but update were slow coming. Hopefully they support the game better and listen to feedback.
Really excited for Aternum and console players starting and joining in. Will be fun to create a new character and try out the revamped story and endgame content.

Hey guys. If you turn off the Steam controller support you will find that on PC, New World has native controller support. I have a PC and it plays just the same as if I was playing on my PS5 when the beta was out. Check it out because everyone in the comments above seems to be misinformed.

He's right about not doing meta builds and just have fun. My most favorite "class" was cranking intelligence and using musket and blunder since they both scaled 65%. After end game and adjusting some perks I made it so my utilities kept me above the rest! It's a fun y paly style and no one on my server used that wonky match up besides me
I was actually really excited for this but had no idea how much I would end up loving T&L; now they're going to have to compete for my time where T&L was initially just going to hold me over until this lmao. New World looks pretty great though and I love the Runescapeish nature with its skill systems which while some people hate and call needless grind I've always loved, gives you something meaningful to do when you don't feel like engaging in harder content.

Yeah ignore the meta it's really just for the "Perfect" Gameplay or dungeon runs in the game I usually go SnS/Warhammer for tanking and for dps Musket/Rapier or Blunderbuss/VG, some people just don't like some weapons especially ranged because there are better for dpsing in dungeons consistently , I get it but kinda takes the fun away if they're too serious about the game treating it like work. There are some people who don't care about these but when it happens "range" players miss or die easy so I guess there are also skill issue. My advice is find a grp or inv some friends to play with you for some dungeons it's an MMO so experience wise it's better to play it with friends, have some patience if you meet ppl who doesn't suit your taste, just relax and enjoy the game. FYI the game is pretty addictive so prepare to lose some family bonding time
I remember quitting this once it failed on PC and had literally no endgame or real challenges. Did that change? Also they take forever to release the most common sense weapon daggers...
I just wish the devs actually showed some kind of passion and care for the game... It just seems like this will be another quick cash grab for them before they move onto something else which drives me insane. Yes, way. I played Throne and Liberty and it's super clunky to play. The combat is not smooth AT ALL. I got super frustrated that it behaves opposite of the way I need it to. I ended up uninstalling coz it just wasn't fun for me
I grinded over 150 hours of new world on its initial launch. Heres why I quit playing. The first week was really fun getting to Max level and learning the crafting system. After reaching max level I enlisted into the territory wars, there was 3 factions. I chose purple but the orange faction was the dominant one on the server. They ended up owning every city and the fights weren't even close on the wars. Most of our enlisted weren't even max level yet whilst the other faction had way better players. This made the endgame very frustrating and almost pointless of playing. If they owned the cities you couldn't take out your loot in that city while in another city. The end game felt really bad imo and lost interest very quickly.

I played the open beta on the Asus Rog Ally, and the gamepad controls worked very well. Game ran smooth on their for the most part.

They've had 1 OPR (PVP) map since the game came out, how is that actually possible? New PVE wards every expansion, no practice wars, small dying servers, outfits in the game look like a 12 year old designed them. The list goes on and on.

Negativity will not get you far in life. I played this game every winter since launch. It has improved massively & was not bad when it came out, just had seriously bad mistakes with economy and such. Played the beta, it is like a whole new game. I agree some of the things you said, but it is still the best MMO in a decade & nothing else is worth playing in the genre unless you are already heavily invested in something older.
? pve wards were removed a year ago and servers now hold more than 2x the amount of people compared to launch... do u even know what a cash grab is btw?

Never liked the combat much even on PC it was bad.

Someone tell this man that there is aim bot in the game now, so that really would change how he rates ranged weapons! Unless the drama about the inclusion of aim lock is being changed or scrubbed, I think this is rather important information to include in a combat review!

You mean hardlock? The most basic action rpg/soulslike mechanic that won't allow you to take headshots, trajectory aim and quick turns? It actually sounds detrimental in chaotic large scale pvp or against people who are good at maneuvering like in elden ring pvp.

@@neologismx Skill issue. Elden Ring has a tighter hardlock and yet with skill you can actually maneuver, align and trigger a backstab in PvP. In a large scale scenario in NW you'd be locked on to 1 guy which leaves you vulnerable to others. So why waste the extra input when you can be twitchy and handle multiple people at once? Head shot them all even if you're an absolute god. Possibilities that are hindered when hardlocked.

I argue in all other pvp modes this is a terrible 'addition' to the health of the game.

3. If you start on a fresh server it most definitely won't be? Legacy servers had their issues but eventually fixed.
4. That all depends on the server, I'd say they rotate between balanced and mono as people quit/companies leave the server
5. No lvling is far easier, don't need to do those dumb town boards on repeat. I think the main quest line basically gets you there
6. After 2k hours for £50? Absolutely, despite the crap the past few years
Paying for the base game and dealing with dupes and other bugs every patch the expansion is a slap in the face to all the players who beta tested a paid game not worth ever playing again
This is likely an effort to give the game new life which is a good thing I had a lot of fun but update were slow coming. Hopefully they support the game better and listen to feedback.
Really excited for Aternum and console players starting and joining in. Will be fun to create a new character and try out the revamped story and endgame content.

The musket is not actually hitscan anymore, they changed this some time ago this year iirc. The projectiles travel now.

It has not. There are community controller maps available on Steam, but most felt very clunky.

Hey guys. If you turn off the Steam controller support you will find that on PC, New World has native controller support. I have a PC and it plays just the same as if I was playing on my PS5 when the beta was out. Check it out because everyone in the comments above seems to be misinformed.

He's right about not doing meta builds and just have fun. My most favorite "class" was cranking intelligence and using musket and blunder since they both scaled 65%. After end game and adjusting some perks I made it so my utilities kept me above the rest! It's a fun y paly style and no one on my server used that wonky match up besides me

I was actually really excited for this but had no idea how much I would end up loving T&L; now they're going to have to compete for my time where T&L was initially just going to hold me over until this lmao. New World looks pretty great though and I love the Runescapeish nature with its skill systems which while some people hate and call needless grind I've always loved, gives you something meaningful to do when you don't feel like engaging in harder content.

Yeah ignore the meta it's really just for the "Perfect" Gameplay or dungeon runs in the game I usually go SnS/Warhammer for tanking and for dps Musket/Rapier or Blunderbuss/VG, some people just don't like some weapons especially ranged because there are better for dpsing in dungeons consistently , I get it but kinda takes the fun away if they're too serious about the game treating it like work. There are some people who don't care about these but when it happens "range" players miss or die easy so I guess there are also skill issue.
My advice is find a grp or inv some friends to play with you for some dungeons it's an MMO so experience wise it's better to play it with friends, have some patience if you meet ppl who doesn't suit your taste, just relax and enjoy the game.
FYI the game is pretty addictive so prepare to lose some family bonding time

Any optimisation improvements? The silent killer I think was that it alienated 90% of players that had 20-30 fps during large fights.

Is New World better than throne and liberty?
Yes, way. I played Throne and Liberty and it's super clunky to play. The combat is not smooth AT ALL. I got super frustrated that it behaves opposite of the way I need it to. I ended up uninstalling coz it just wasn't fun for me

I grinded over 150 hours of new world on its initial launch. Heres why I quit playing. The first week was really fun getting to Max level and learning the crafting system. After reaching max level I enlisted into the territory wars, there was 3 factions. I chose purple but the orange faction was the dominant one on the server. They ended up owning every city and the fights weren't even close on the wars. Most of our enlisted weren't even max level yet whilst the other faction had way better players. This made the endgame very frustrating and almost pointless of playing. If they owned the cities you couldn't take out your loot in that city while in another city. The end game felt really bad imo and lost interest very quickly.
