- This video takes the viewer through the process of disassembling a pump, inspecting the seal components fitting the mechanical seal and assembling the pump ready for installation.
I worked as a mechanic in an oil refinery for 10 of my 16 years at the plant. We were working on a pump one time in a propane pumping application. We thought we should add lubrication to the pump seal before we assembled the unit. DON"T DO THAT! The lubricant froze when the propane hit the faces of the seal and the seal would not seal off. Eventually we put the seal together without any lubrication and the pump seal worked perfectly. Lesson learned!

I would advise anyone handling metal objects, regardless of weight and shape, to wear appropriate cut resistant gloves. Eye wear should also be worn in a shop setting. Accidents happen when you think they won't and it's too late to put them on when you're struck with an object or dust.

What size of pump is this?
Can you imagine the ridiculous price attached to that pump? Something you could cast in your backyard with aluminium cans and some scrap copper in an afternoon? I bet it's in the thousands. It drives me nuts the prices of some things. I could literally manufacture a dozen or more pumps for the price of one of these things.
This music is killing me..other whise its a excellent video..But good god I am ready to pull out my paint brush's....this just lowered my heart rate by 30 points I guarantee..LOL

Kim Brewer why did you not point out that the ceramic seal was cracked which you could see form the video. Also you took for granted that the locking ring was put in the proper position the last time it was put on. There is a proper procedure for doing this it should be checked each and every time.

OK did not about the other video I have installed many of these also I like the newer ones that use a zip cord

The key and torquing the nut...besides thesy don't inspect the wear rings...but the general operation sequences are right.
