Bought my first motorcycle 3 1/2 years ago. I’m 6’2” and 210lbs, but I spent that first year riding a 250cc Yamaha across the country twice. Watching RUclips videos, many of those creators were using your parts, lead me to my second motorcycle, the Honda Shadow 600. Between spending that first year on a 250, and the last 2 1/2 years on the Honda Shadow 600, I’m sure you can guess I’ve been told more than a few times I need a bigger motorcycle. I’ve ridden over 40,000 miles in 3 years, with trips on the Honda to Mexico and Alaska. I can assure everyone that the Honda Shadow 600 can handle it all just fine. I’ve never felt uncomfortable on the Shadow. I’ve spent about $800 on tires, but otherwise, oil, filters, spark plugs, brake shoes… probably less than $500 in maintenance. I’ve never broken down, and I’ve been a long way from help on more than a few occasions. It’s 2024, and me and the Honda are still going strong.
You rock ! ., I've got a SR250 Yamaha Exciter , the little Yamaha is a single cylinder and I've ridden it all over my County and nearby Counties . I've just bought a 750 Honda Shadow Spirit and hand bent a 2-1/2 foot Sissy bar for it .
Amazing. Ppl really overlook smaller displacement bikes nor understand its capabilities. I’m on. Ktm 390 right now after riding 750plus cc all my life !
Yesterday, I went out to my garage, looking for something to do. " Hmmmm... I guess I'll work on my Shadow." After careful consideration, I realized there was nothing that needed to be done to it. So, I just went for a ride. 😁
One thing that is an endless task on my 04 is trying to keep the rust/corrosion on the wheels in check, but yeah, otherwise change the fluids and plugs on a regular schedule, and it's a fire-and-forget bike.

My 2002 honda shadow sabre jist got me from northern Alberta down to Kansas City and finished into Northern Maine and then eastern Quebec, over 4000 miles in 2 weeks. Nothing major broke and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Oh, and I was well over 400lbs total weight on that thing.

Thank you for your honest review! I am a true Honda fanatic through experience, and I have owned two Honda Shadows in the past. The only thing I ever done was clean the carbs and batteries as you mentioned. The last Shadow I sold was ONLY to wanting a bigger and more comfortable Honda, that's it. I currently own four extremely fun Honda's!
Rode my 1998 Shadow 750 ACE from Toronto, On- Whistler BC through the rocky mountains, some days I would hit 1000 miles on a stockish (Bars, exhaust only mods) and It handled the trip flawlessly, only wish it had more passing power on the highway.
2:58 - Thank you for this. I high sided mine last season (almost immediately after finishing the bob) and have been putting off the rebuild expecting the worst. Gave me a little hope it salvagable.
I went with a '94 Honda Shadow 1100. I got nothing but good things to say about it. I like that it has a 4-Speed. I am one of those weirdo old school riders who would rather have long gears that I can use the full potential of the powerband. Also less shifting to worry about and I can put more focus on the road, and in my general opinion, 4-Speeds are a lot more fun overall and gives you better overall control in slowing down or speeding up depending on conditions. More throttle, less shifting makes for a fun time and comfort as well.
I stopped riding right after I started back in the 80s so I could raise a family (money was tight). Two years ago I retired and the first thing I did was shop for a Bike. After looking at a few different makes on Marketplace, I found a 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit that has 20200 miles and was reasonably priced. Best purchase I've made in years. I love this machine. I ride all day and aside from Regular Fluid changes, I've never had an issue. This the most dependable motorcycle out of my little group of riding buddies. Great video, by the way.

Now I'm in my late 30's and there's a bit of nagging regret there in the back of my mind. The fascination's starting to come back and I want to learn to ride. I've have been looking into which bike to get, prefferably used so I can save some cash and get some protective gear. Honda Shadows keep catching my eye for the price, look, approachable power and weight. There always seems to be a few available from private owners for $2000-$4000. Just gotta stack dem chips for a few months.
I had a 1989 Shadow 600 with flame paint job. I loved it. Only complaint is the bike has a high center of gravity and like to fall over easily. You can't go wrong when buying a "Hondo". I have a 2023 Honda Grom now. Love it.

I was a Harley fan for many years, until in the late 90es Honda launched the 750 Black Widow. Due to several reasons, it took another 23 years, until finally I managed to buy one. It's a beautiful, rock solid, reliable, brilliant bike. Fun to ride, and easy to handle. I really love it
I picked up an 04 Shadow 750 Aero this year and I flipping love it. Really the only flaw in it is the g****mn oil dipstick, which is unreliable and hard to read. A sight glass would be an infinite improvement. Otherwise it's damn near perfect, especially with an aftermarket exhaust to let it really growl. It won't win many drag races, but otherwise it has plenty of power/torque for real-world riding and even touring, and in exchange for that, you get 56MPH. These bikes deserve so much more respect than they get.
Nice channel! Love my ol 86 VT700, only one down side, a lot of the simple going to need replaced eventually seals, like the clutch pushrod seal, and the frosty the snowman shaped thermostat housing seals ,along with a few others...are pretty much unobtanium these days....glad I replaced mine when I bought the bike about 13 years ago..luckily I ride only, no cages, so they stay wet.
i bought an 87 vt1100cc shadow in july of 88. $3600, 3rd owner, had 620 miles on it when purchased. 1990 i took it to the local dragstrip, it ran 13.65seconds, at 96mph, in 1/4mile, never used 4th gear. 91 i took it racing again, but after a wheelie at the starting line, i put wheelie bars on it. i ran semi pro ET 91, 92, 93, 94, and 95. 2400+ wide open passes during those years. i still have it, and an 89 model, but dont ride it anymore, i ride an hd fatboy daily. i am 6'5, gone from 170 to 240, and i'm now old. lol the shadow was a blast, shaft drive, buck horns, and reliable as the day is long.
bouth my vt 750 c2 this year and i'm really liking it. Changing rear sprocket to 38T from 41 soon and will see how it works out. lots of folks recomend it.
Congratulations! Personally I hate that sprocket change crap. Turns the bike into a pig when taking off. I don't get how people can't handle the minimal vibration of a honda at high speeds. Try riding an old triumph or a rigid harley your kidneys, lumbar discs and teeth will rattle out 😆. To each his own I guess but any time I've had a bike with a goofy sprocket I put it back to stock. Bike takes off quick and rides great. But what do i know. 🤷🏻♂️🍻🍻 cheers mate! And have fun!!!
@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS Thanks. I have it since January and still learning and discovering stuff :D if i will not like it esp. since i'm a little bigger guy :D i willl go back to stock one.

Hey,just subscribe to your channel like what you do, brother. I picked a 07 honda shadow vt600cd back in February, and I'm loving the bike. Your adle comment was an eye-opener for me, which made sense enjoying your channel. You're super funny. I can't wait to see more
I've had an aero since brand new in 2007, 17 years! It's going to be hard to part with it. I love it but i want something with a bit more pep. It's been a stellar bike!
Just had a mechanical failure on my Shadow 600 the fuel pump died. Only 70000km on the clock and the thing just quitted. Bypassed the pump and she works just fine. Even gets all the fuel out from the reserve tank! No reason for that pump but to interrupt my journey....
Thanks for giving me confidence in my 1998 vt1100. I was going for low maitenance and comfortable. My bike is low miles but sat outside a lot so I've had to put some money in it. I call it the Toyota corolla of motorcycles. It's not elegant but very dependable.

I got a 2006 honda shadow a few months ago, when i bought it, it wouldnt go oved 50 mph, so i had someone rejet the carb and clean the carb, tested the fuel pump, changed the fuel filter, and it runs good, but when im in 3rd gear and up, at low idle it runs good, but at mid throttle it sputters.. and it will continue to sputter until i either shift gears, lower the rpm, or go full throttle
I got my '97 shadow 600 in mint condition with 7,500 miles for $2,200. There out there for sure. Just came across it after looking for a long time but patience is key 🤙
you are hilarious! you have a new sub. A friend is selling me one of these 2003 750. His wife didn't want it. I bought a vintage Suzuki GS, but I need something for when I ride with the fellas and get shat upon on the highway on my 450 vinti velo! This video help me decide to get it. Thanks!
Wow...neat video-write up...Ummm what about me with my 84 VT 750 Shadow still pumping strong with the odd oil burning now of course but took er on an extensive Canada to New York State 12 hour days running run in heat.....Gotta love me Shadow!
Rocking my 98 1100 spirit with 65,000km running like a champ! after a recent slow speed dump, in would be wicked if someone made a "dyna styled" crash bar for the shadows ;) ;)'
#8 - Replacing the stock rear 44T sprocket with a 40T or 39T one will make the Shadow 600 highway (130 kp/h cruise speed) capable... right? #9 - All you have to do to get a nice sound out of a Shadow 600 is the holesaw mod and get the baffles/db-killers out
I own a 1984 Honda magna and would like to make it into a bobber... no not a fishing one... I know nothing about wiring or engine work. can you lead me in the right direction on what to do? I would like to do it all myself, but I need guidance. 🤓🚲
Had a vt100. One of the BEST ever had. Even when it had to sit some i knew it would run Like the Yamaha I went to. Wife's suzuki was OK. The HD i have now is kinda a pain but I also don't get to ride like I did when it was the only way to get around.
Yeah, these don't suck. Among my favorites is the VT600, which can be found on the used market for a song. I personally ride the best Suzuki Savage chopper built by the inginuity of man, but will testify to the Honda being the superior machine. * DISCLAIMER: veracity of commenter varies depending on who you ask
I just bought another 750 ace for $700. It runs it's ass off and has been bobbed. It's got new parts and spare parts like starter, tubes and all kinds of cool stuff 😎
Hi TJ!! Love your videos. Can you please help me with what kind of jets the 400 steed has? And if I need to reject with just straight pipes and stock intake? Thanks in advance brother!
I’ve owned many bikes . Styles , sizes , everything from a mini bike to a Valkyrie, To Dyna Harley . The most comfortable bike I’ve ever owned or ridden was a 2004 Aero 750 shadow . A little under powered IMO . I’m 250 pounds 6’1” and wife is a buck 10 . Not so sure any 750 would handle that weight on a grade . Flat ground it was fine but hitting the hills it struggled . A set of crash bars and forward pegs with a mustang seat gave me ample room to stretch my legs . I went from that to a Valkyrie. Now that had power but ,,,,, there was the absence of nimbleness. As a bobber ?? I can totally see the 750 being then perfect platform to cruise around town
I just wish they had kickstarts, modded my rebel to have one awhile back and never worried about changing batteries for 5 years. Had a lot of battery issues in winter prior. You can bump but tough on wet surfaces and always feels like a clown show..
I made a big mistake by trading my 2003 Honda Shadow VT750 with 250K miles on it, for a 2023 Kawasaki Vulcan 900, the 750cc Shadow could hit 110mph with 500 lbs of passenger on it, the 900cc Vulcan can barely hit 85mph with 500 lbs of passenger on it. What's more the Honda will run for 1M+ miles.
Probably previous owner replaced stock sprockets kit on your Vulcan to slower one but with faster acceleration. You can easily replace it back and make 150+ mph. I use to drive the same Vulcan in super busy city and I did the same - replaced sprockets to have faster acceleration instead of high top speed.
Shadows can be got cheap, had a 08 750 that cost me $1500 with under 4k miles. After 5 years I got stupid and traded it for an FJR. Found a 03 VLX for $1,000 in great shape with low miles. Great, fun bikes
Mine lurches and kinda makes a grinding noise when I’m coming out of a stop in 1st gear. Other than that it runs great? Is my clutch slipping? Any suggestions?
Get it up to moderate speed in 3, 4 or 5th gear and get on the throttle. If it revs then starts to accelerate it’s probably time for a clutch plate job. Did mine in about 1.5 hours. Pretty simple.
I love Honda middle weight V twins I have owned an NTV 650 and a Transalp 600 racked up big miles on them now I have a 2003 deauville 650 and a Bros 650 it's just like a Hawk Gt 650 it's a cafe racer out of the box and handles like its on rails. They are extremely reliable and durable. I ran a 1340 evo for 10 years and over 25000 miles it cost a fortune to keep on the road and was rubbish to ride compared to the transalp 600 I also had at the time that I bough as a winter hack for 1100 €. I'm not knock Harleys just telling it as I see it.
I love hondas, i love choppers. Im constantly debating back and forth whether to build a sporty or a shadow... but the shadows always just look a little wrong to me 😅 i hate to say it. Something about the proportions is wrong.
I was wondering what bike to buy I have looked at the kawasaki eliminator for 22024 . But I also have be looking at the honda shadow. What would you suggest?
I need your help! I’m sooo stumped man I’ve replaced almost everything on my 98 honda shadow 750 replaced engine, carbs rebuilt, fuel pump, fuel filter, new spark plugs, has spark on all plugs, still sputtering when I give it throttle please help thank you!!!
hey tj man i got a question and idk if im just being dumb or not, sorry if its a dumb question but i figured i’d ask, my shadow has a problem its a single carb but the slide wont move the throttle cable is connected there’s no slack in the line or anything, it ran fine awhile ago but one day it just wouldn’t move, is this a problem with the vacuum? i’d appreciate if you could get back to me, thanks man
@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMSso found out what was the matter, there was a small tear in the rubber boot for the slide, fixed that and it still wouldn’t start so i ended up bypassing the afp bc i seen in a video that it goes bad easy boom fired up with ease thank you man

91 i took it racing again, but after a wheelie at the starting line, i put wheelie bars on it.
i ran semi pro ET 91, 92, 93, 94, and 95. 2400+ wide open passes during those years.
i still have it, and an 89 model, but dont ride it anymore, i ride an hd fatboy daily.
i am 6'5, gone from 170 to 240, and i'm now old. lol
the shadow was a blast, shaft drive, buck horns, and reliable as the day is long.
I love the entertainment value. Much more fun to watch informative videos that are funny as well.
Thanks for thinking we are funny, we think we are just idiots
Seen a short on FB super glad I found ya . You rock
bouth my vt 750 c2 this year and i'm really liking it.
I grew up riding dirt bikes. I’m 36 and want to get back into riding so I got a 99 750 ACE. Great video. This dude is easy on the eyes. I’d hit it. Big time. Anyway yeah great video .
😂😂
Hey,just subscribe to your channel like what you do, brother. I picked a 07 honda shadow vt600cd back in February, and I'm loving the bike. Your adle comment was an eye-opener for me, which made sense enjoying your channel. You're super funny. I can't wait to see more
Congratulations dude!! Enjoy the ride! And thank you for the comment!! 🙏🏽
I've had an aero since brand new in 2007, 17 years! It's going to be hard to part with it. I love it but i want something with a bit more pep. It's been a stellar bike!
I’ve been persuaded! Once I’m back on my feet I’m getting one to chopperfy!
Just had a mechanical failure on my Shadow 600 the fuel pump died. Only 70000km on the clock and the thing just quitted. Bypassed the pump and she works just fine. Even gets all the fuel out from the reserve tank! No reason for that pump but to interrupt my journey....
for future reference, if it hasn't already been stated, dousche actualyy helps remove skunk funk. Jussayn :) Great Vid!
Thanks for that!
Thanks for giving me confidence in my 1998 vt1100. I was going for low maitenance and comfortable. My bike is low miles but sat outside a lot so I've had to put some money in it. I call it the Toyota corolla of motorcycles. It's not elegant but very dependable.
Glad we could be of help! 🍻
I'm a Virago guy but I like your Honda. It doesn't look like everyone else's Honda 👍
Keep the shiny side up :)
Thanks, you too!
Bro just subscribed checked out the shop and I will picking some stuff up I have a 08 750 shadow sprit thanks for showing just how awesome this bikes are 👍😎
You're the only reason for me to come to visit your country!
You remind me of my little brother,,,,,husky, beer on hand, 5 Harleys, beard black and white like a raccoon and funny as hell….hates Honda until I show him my phantom…,,,, great video keep making them….
Cheers!
Love my VT600!
Best Bike for driving & to work on it.
greeeez from Austria 🇦🇹🤘🏻
I sold my shadow and bought a harley but damn, every time I see a TJ ad or video it makes me wanna buy a 600vlx to chop up
want to
I got a 2006 honda shadow a few months ago, when i bought it, it wouldnt go oved 50 mph, so i had someone rejet the carb and clean the carb, tested the fuel pump, changed the fuel filter, and it runs good, but when im in 3rd gear and up, at low idle it runs good, but at mid throttle it sputters.. and it will continue to sputter until i either shift gears, lower the rpm, or go full throttle
Dang! That suks!
6:38 Damn right, lost count of how many times i used my 98 Shadow 600 to deliver parts to a shop for a harley i used to own.
I've had an '06 750 spirit since 2015. Only had 2k mi. when I got it. Now only has 11k. very comfortable for long rides and dependable.
Excellent bike!!!
Informative, funny, good shit. I'm already chopping after teo weeks, cos theres bugger all else I can do on her except ride and pollish her.
First time. Instant subscribe. Love the video.
Cheers! Thank you for the support!
I got my '97 shadow 600 in mint condition with 7,500 miles for $2,200. There out there for sure. Just came across it after looking for a long time but patience is key 🤙
Indeed
you are hilarious! you have a new sub. A friend is selling me one of these 2003 750. His wife didn't want it. I bought a vintage Suzuki GS, but I need something for when I ride with the fellas and get shat upon on the highway on my 450 vinti velo! This video help me decide to get it. Thanks!
SIIIIIIICK
Wow...neat video-write up...Ummm what about me with my 84 VT 750 Shadow still pumping strong with the odd oil burning now of course but took er on an extensive Canada to New York State 12 hour days running run in heat.....Gotta love me Shadow!
Great point!
had a 2002 shadow spirit 750, loved it
Siiick
this makes me feel so good about buying it as my first bike, i have yet to ride it.
Get on that thang!
@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS as soon as it runs, im hoping next week battery replacement
About to trade a truck for a VT750 bobber. This was really helpful. The bucee's hat is pimp.
Awesome! 🍻
Got my first bike. Shadow 600. Just ordered some parts from you a few days ago just waiting now 😂
Hope you enjoy it!
@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS got the parts bike never ran this smooth worth every dime. Also! Came with a peppermint 😂 got to stay fresh I guess
My first bike was a Honda Magna 750C, god I miss that bike. Shame I crashed. I wish I could have salvaged that V4, it sounded so mean and I loved it.
Rocking my 98 1100 spirit with 65,000km running like a champ! after a recent slow speed dump, in would be wicked if someone made a "dyna styled" crash bar for the shadows ;) ;)'
Love the hand shifter!
Love you
#8 - Replacing the stock rear 44T sprocket with a 40T or 39T one will make the Shadow 600 highway (130 kp/h cruise speed) capable...
SIIIIIICK
Hi TJ!! Love your videos. Can you please help me with what kind of jets the 400 steed has? And if I need to reject with just straight pipes and stock intake? Thanks in advance brother!
Hey! Thanks for the great feedback! We are so sorry but other than our videos we do not offer any tuning advice.
What can you say about using pure copper gasket on shadow 750
I don't understand the question. They work great?
I’m a sucker for a clean shadow man. Looks great and tastefully done. I have a V-Star 650
👍
LOL…
You’re awesome. I want a Shadow
Solid
Ha yeah its hard to beat a honda!
Bought my 07 Shadow Sabre for $1,600. Only had 17k on it!
We agree with you master!!a question velocity stack and back draft exhaust for pilot jet 48 or 50
trick question, that depends on the bike, age, and elevation
@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS thanks
That bike looks sick
Bring it to California
We love you
That bike is in California
Best years and trims for the shadow? I’m looking to buy my first bike soon
Can you put that front end on a Shadow Spirit1100 without modifying the frame?
Hey! We are so sorry but other than our awesome RUclips videos we do not offer any building advice.
👍
I love hondas, i love choppers. Im constantly debating back and forth whether to build a sporty or a shadow... but the shadows always just look a little wrong to me 😅 i hate to say it. Something about the proportions is wrong.
Thank you !
I was wondering what bike to buy I have looked at the kawasaki eliminator for 22024 . But I also have be looking at the honda shadow. What would you suggest?
Buy a car
I need your help! I’m sooo stumped man I’ve replaced almost everything on my 98 honda shadow 750 replaced engine, carbs rebuilt, fuel pump, fuel filter, new spark plugs, has spark on all plugs, still sputtering when I give it throttle please help thank you!!!
I'm sorry man I can't diagnose via comments section, but it sounds like you might need to tube? 🤷🏻♂️
Have you thought about making things for early Goldwings? Gl1000/Gl1100 specifically
maybe in the future. got a lot of other stuff to cover before i get there though
hey tj man i got a question and idk if im just being dumb or not, sorry if its a dumb question but i figured i’d ask, my shadow has a problem its a single carb but the slide wont move the throttle cable is connected there’s no slack in the line or anything, it ran fine awhile ago but one day it just wouldn’t move, is this a problem with the vacuum? i’d appreciate if you could get back to me, thanks man
Pull it apart man. Could just be some dirt in there🤷🏻♂️
@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMSso found out what was the matter, there was a small tear in the rubber boot for the slide, fixed that and it still wouldn’t start so i ended up bypassing the afp bc i seen in a video that it goes bad easy boom fired up with ease thank you man
My dad sent me here watched it all. I just got myself a 1995 honda shadow 600 vlx.
Update got bars
That's awesome! We are sorry but we don't offer any advice on where to purchase parts we don't currently carry. We are always adding new, rad parts to our website so please stay tuned!
I have a 86 700 it was my little girl and mine first one together ❤ I really want some original 80$ crash bars for it and highway sticks I would love to get your expertise
Not sure what your talking about, but right on!
I don't know about the 600 I'm about 230 lb and 6 ft I would definitely take a 750 Honda Shadow I own a Sportster 883 Sportster I know you mentioned it before but what is the best year 750 Honda Shadow to look for
Im 6' and 270. the 600 does fine LOL
Thanks big bro thatvideo on idle being to low helped me oiy traminfauslee ur awesome
Love my 97
Hi did the carbs on my Honda shadow going pretty well again but over the last few days it’s not starting I charged the battery and it’s turning fast enough to start but still no good any idea?
Sorry cant diagnose through comments
I need straight shotgun pipes for my 07 VT1100C2. V&H doesn’t make them anymore. 😞
I own a 2000 vt750. The battery covers from Ali is ugly af and is the only option i can get. Love the work you done with the battery cover. Did you make it yourself? If not, where can i buy one?
theyre comin!
@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS which Im buyin
I paid 50 bucks and a running chainsaw for a 88 shadow VXL 600 today. its missing a tank and seat and was mostly intact besides those thing
good trade
do you sell custom parts for 84 750 shadow and you send tho europe ?
we do not make parts for that model, sorry
I want to build that bike. Which model you start with?
I think you'd want a 600 or the 750 Shadow RS, as those were both chain drive models and l think otherwise most shadows are shaft drive.
@@edwardkeeter762thanks
This is a Vt600 2007.
Have you ever chopped a 2005 shadow 1300. (My bike)
not chopped but done some modifications to.
Old jimmy two times got that 2nd shadow.. calls it shadows shadow. They migjt call it a poor mans harley but thats cus it wont break the bank on repairs😂
I wish you would review the 06 shadow saber 1100
The shadow sabre is a bad ass bike. I would get an other one in a heartbeat
I had an 02 I laid down then replaced it with an 07. These bikes are so comfortable to ride. Both VT1100’s.
Selling my spottster and either getting vlx 600 or vulcan 800.
I'm obviously biased but the 600 is the jam! 😎🍻
