I think Samsung should have continued this lineup they should have made DSLR and mirrorless cameras I don't know why Samsung is not entering into the camera department they could have seamlessly integrated it into the ecosystem of their products
I grew up with film cameras as well and I can guarantee that the #1 reason digital cameras took over had nothing to do with connecting to your computer and had everything to do with being able to immediately see the picture and deciding to delete it (without the waste of polaroid). That one single feature changed the world.
I know most peeps are fine with taking photos on their phones but something about a device made specifically for a purpose just feels right to use my good ol Sony RX100 from years ago still serves its purpose and take wonderful images
The bit around 5:30 with TikTokers calling things digicams because they want to "disconnect" is ironically hilarious. I'm sure they post about disconnecting constantly. Very mindful. Possibly demure, even. It's just stupid considering we finally have devices in our pockets that enable pro-quality production and some people just want to go back to shooting photos on a potato. You want real vintage? Forget the trash 2002 Kodak advanced photo system and get yourself a gatdamn Hasselblad (on a OnePlus).
Excellent work, Ryan - from someone who has been following digicams, and then smartphones as well. We had the Canon point and shoots in our house for cat photos mostly. Partner eventually got a DSLR because we only had Nokia flip phones back then. I eventually had a Nokia N8, 1020 (which I still own) & my 950 XL (donated). From there I jumped to Android after the death of WP and landed on Pixels, I have the 8a currently & I've since bought a used DSLR because I'm a geek like that. Also own an Elph 180 from 2016 that does pretty great in daylight. Pixels are now my go-to because they usually nail the shot on the first try.
On hybrid cameras, it is very clear that the key players (Sony, Canon, Nikon) try not to disturb the habits of pro photographers - their last top dollar clients - who insist on shooting RAW and do their "secret sauce" processing afterwards. But as a casual shooter, my money would go to an APS-C or M43 camera combined with smartphone-like onboard processing power. I love smartphones but ergonomics remain poor for photo (hence the new shutter-like buttons). Maybe there is still a market to be rediscovered for cameras that behave like smartphones but don't pretend to be one
With mobile (ARM) compute as good as it is, I feel like there's so much opportunity for a point and shoot with next-level processing power. But I suppose since 99% of people will just use their phone, it means the market will be small which is a shame. -RTS
I just want good, competitive, dedicated point and shoots again. Their battery lasts forever, and is only used on 1 process. It's great on an outing when I don't want to carry my phone (most of the time)
Canon still mafe those just until a few years ago, and they're pretty good. I uae them for family trips etc. Unfortunately they did discontinue them recently.
one you didn't mention is a hybrid of a different kind, the Motorola Moto Z with modules that included a big camera add-on, unfortunately the camera tech wasn't really good enough but it was a nice idea. It also included a battery in the module to extend the battery life of the phone
I've bought 8 Moto Z line phones on the used market over the past 6 years and I've still haven't considered getting the Hasselblad Mod because I've heard from reviews that the image quality isn't much better than what I already have: a Panasonic Lumix point-and-shoot and a bunch of other phones with great cameras in my collection like the Pixel 5a, Reno 10X Zoom, and Huawei P20 Pro.
As somebody that loves fixed lens cameras with big sensors (Sony R1, Fujifilm X100S, Sigma DP2) the smartphones are my compact cameras of my dreams: instead of compromising in a camera with a slow zoom (one that usually starts in 28 mm eq. focal length and end in 75mm or so) or having just one luminous but fixed focal length you get three prime luminous lenses in a thin body. Camera companies made everything for people to "upgrade" to bigger cameras and cellphone companies gave me what I wanted. If I want the natural look I can shoot raw in my Galaxies.
It would be fantastic if they released a smartphone with a full-frame or aps-c type sensor, interchangeable lenses, a large battery, the newest Android OS, and the newest Snapdragon processor. Additionally, it would have been fantastic if there was a thin prime lens that could fit in any pocket for people who don't want to carry an additional bag for other lenses.😁😁

Yall never buy
Not as easy as it sounds
I think they did try but it didn’t workout remember Sammy will try anything if they can make it them selfs
Sony has the better sensors.
They won't be able to compete with big guys like hasselblads, canon,Sony and etc if they continue this they will just bleed money.

The Xperia 1 IV/V/VI with mechanically continuous zoOM telephoto lenses is the new Galaxy Camera 👌

@AndroidPolice 06:40 actually also Sony's RX100 series has been quite popular, also for vloggers, and it comes at a more accessible price range
Time to put interchangeable lenses in the smartphone.
This reminds me of the Sony QX series. They were a phenomenal product, and I believe Kodak also introduced something similar in recent years.
I remember owning T-Mobile Samsung Memoir and that was the weirdest camera phone ever, because it didn’t have an Android OS.
Ahhh I miss my Samsung K Zoom! Really loved that "phone"... If only dusts couldn't get in the lens easily..
Were?
Cameras are still smartphones, what do you think iphones are? 👀🤔🤨
Ryan means "Camera Smartphones", not "Smartphone Cameras".
Now that's what I call an r/whoooosh 🤭
I miss that time... Really wanted that samsun camera phone.
No one was still carrying around point and shoots in 2016 either.
Don't say never with Samsung because they will prove you wrong.

Still got mine and use it today
Why don't you try a GCam module APK on the Galaxy Camera ? That should get you up to modern processing trends too.
I came to comment on how hot Ryan is. Love you Ryan.
The reason why phones nowadays is boring. Even some Indonesian do modification called "Direct Sensor" for best zoom+bokeh.
i want a galaxy s3 to muk around with
