Your seven tips were the best suggestions I have seen on the internet. I had been looking for something that would give me the confidence to work with Minky. This nailed this Teresa. Thank you so very much!!
Great video. Thank you for all the information. I have been sewing for 60 years . I have college credits for sewing and you taught me something new . It shows we are never too old to learn something new. This new Generation is amazing. Can’t wait to see your next video. Now I am going to make a puffy baby blanket with your help.
This saved me SO much time and seam ripping. Toddler blanket turned out GREAT. Thank you. I ended up pinning 3 times just because it was a large blanket and I had enough pins.
This is great! I sewed one seam, what a mess - I thought I was going to have to do the entire project by hand! I don't have a walking foot and live an hour from the store, but I will be getting one.
These tips are so helpful! I am just about to add a cuddle backing to a child's quilt. Your video and instructions will save me so much trouble! Thank you!
Hi and thanks a lot for sharing your expertise with us. They are very helpful. I’m looking fo reward to seeing your next videos. I love Shannon Fabrics for their great quality and softness. Have a wonderful day!
Full of great tips! I can make knitted & crochet toys, but sewing has always been more difficult for me--but i am DETERMINED to do it this year! Invested in minkie fabric, a walking foot is in the mail! tHANK YOU
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I made a baby blanket with the soft snuggle fabric on one side and the minky on the other side. No problems until I sewed the 4th side. I had too much minky fabric, sewn and took apart three different times. Saw your video and did the double pinning. Wow!!!! That made a huge difference. Sewed it just perfect. Thank you so much for these tips. Guessing my next blanket won't take me hours like the first one.
Thank you so much for all these tips. I'm so glad I saw this before starting my blanket. It seems simple to sew two pieces of fabric together, but there's more to it than meets the eye.
I wish I had watched this video before I started my current project. I'm at the point where I don't even want to work with minky again. I've used minky on baby quilts and a couple of throw size quilts, but this project has many small pieces. It's driving me crazy!
Hi Shannon Fabrics, first I wanted to say your minky material is my absolute favorite! I’m a novice at making double sided minky blankets, and I was wondering is there anything I can do to make the two sides stay together? I was thinking maybe a fabric adhesive but I know this material can not go under a iron. Do you have any tips and tricks for me? 😀
Thanks, Kendra! We recommend topstitching 2-4" from the seam to hold them together and that's it! There is no need to hold the middle together as the fabrics will play well together. If you'd prefer to do something, you can quilt them together, but it isn't necessary.
@@dyane1869 I’m in the middle of a move and have not had a chance to try quilting with minky fabric yet. I plan on doing so with stripes and already have prints picked out …super excited 😊
What size needle do I use for the thick minky? Do I need a stretch 90/14 needle for sewing a blanket? I love using minky for the backs of my quilts but, I’d love to use a mitered edge and cut it 2” larger and put it on the top and stick it down. I hope I’m writing this to where you can understand what I’m talking about. Thanks.
We recommend using a 90/14 Stretch needles whenever you are sewing with Cuddle minky fabrics, whether it is the thinner, smooth Cuddle® 3 or the thicker Luxe Cuddle® fabrics.
What Length are the Clover Pins? Also if wanted to embroider a name & a little llama in the Hoop on regular Cuddle 3 really short pile or also on Cuddle Hide do I still use an Embroidery needle or a different needle? If I added Binding around the edge instead of Mitered edge so i still just sew a straight line when adding the binding or a zigzag stitch because it's a stretch fabric? Thankyou so much all your videos are awesome
The Clover pins that I prefer are 54mm long, a little more than 2 inches. You still use an Embroidery needle when working with Cuddle. You stitch with a straight stitch, just make sure to use a polyester thread.
Can you provide a link to purchase these serrated scissors? I checked out the Famore web site, but no 6" comfort handles. Thank you for your help! Great video!
One more question please help. I'm making burp cloth 8" x 11"with terrycloth on the back & quilting cotton on front with Dimple dot minky/Cuddle Binding. How long is Serpentine stitch for the cuddle binding? The stitch width I used 3.5 like you mentioned Is it inches or mm your mentioning? My machine uses mm & the stitches don't look right they're to small & to close especially if you mess up it takes forever to rip the stitches out. Please help me thanks so much
It depends on your machine, but for a straight stitch I use 3.5mm. When I do a serpentine stitch, I change the stitches and make it narrow and long. You will need to play with your stitch length and width settings to find the one you like on your machine. For me, they are different on all of my machines. Good luck! --teresa
You don't have to, but if you do please make sure to wash it in cool water with no fabric softener and dry on low heat or hang to dry, then fluff. --teresa
No, but after you cut it, you can throw it in the dryer with a damp washcloth for a few minutes and the Cuddle dust will end up in the lint trap. It does shed after the initial shed.
Excellent video! I’m no longer afraid of minky! Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Glad it was helpful!

Happy to find this! I'm just about to use very thick plush for the first time and was a bit intimidated. This is so helpful, thank you!
Tip #3 is a gem - getting rid of the 'cuddle dust' before going to the sewing machine. Amen to that Sister!

Ok. That really helps a lot since I purchase different thicknesses. Love how soft it is. Thanks.
Which way do you cut it?? Along the stretch or no?? This is driving me nuts

They are little scissors from Famore: Comfort Handle Razor Edge 6-inch scissors.

Is a stretch needle the same as a ballpoint needle for knits? Great tutorial! Very helpful!
Thanks for your wonderful tutorials.
Is a ballpoint needle for knits different from a stretch needle?
They are slightly different but a ballpoint is a suitable alternative. -teresa

What seam allowance should I use when piecing minky together? Thx!
We recommend using a 1/2" seam allowance for most Cuddle® minky projects. --teresa

What way does the cuddle 3 nap run off the blot, salvage top down to salvage bottom or the length of yards?
Always parallel to the selvage edge, the length of the fabric.
Informative video (once I got past her saying “K” literally 48 times).
We'll be updating it soon and I promise not to be so nervous :) Thanks for getting through it! -teresa
What did you say the is the brand of PINS?
They are Clover pins. I prefer the ones in the box, but the ones that have the red/pink flower heads are really good, too!
Minky sheds a little, am i supposed to wash the fabric before working with it?
No, but after you cut it, you can throw it in the dryer with a damp washcloth for a few minutes and the Cuddle dust will end up in the lint trap. It does shed after the initial shed.
In Temperance Michigan
What kind of thread and needle do you use If your doing minky and flannel?
I will always default to what the Cuddle needs when mixing substrates, so I'd use polyester thread and a 90/14 Stretch needle. --teresa
Boy is it a shifty material...
