    Great tips! I find working with Minky to be kind of a pain and not my favorite, but the result is so cozy that I keep doing it over and over again 🤣

    I love using Cudddle3 for backing. I still use batting, too!

    What kind of needle would you recommend using vuddle 3 as backing with a cotton pieced top. Mine has many seams 2.5 inch squares (9 patch) stitched to rail blocks. Thanks for the video and all thr other great tips! ❤

    Thank you for the good tips. Do you know where you bought the cuddle with the gray hearts? It is so pretty..

      Missouri Star Quilt Co used to have Cuddle® Embossed Heart, but I am not seeing it anymore, unfortunately. I see some on Etsy though from some smaller shops!

    Since my quilt top is larger than my minky, I need to sew two pieces of minky together; creating one seam horizontally. When sewing the minky together, is it okay to sew and use the selvage edges to create a seam? The selvages are very straight and I' don't believe it will show any different if I were to cut off the selvages. Your opinion?

      That’s a great question! I usually just use the wide minky so I’ve never actually pieced a minky back, but I believe it would work out well!

    Would you spray baste quilt layers if using longarm machine or only on domestic machines?

    • @HomemadeEmilyJane
      @HomemadeEmilyJane  Год назад +1

      No basting is needed for longarm quilting 😁 That’s the main reason I choose longarm quilting for most larger quilts

    Do you know whose sells a queen size batting of the QD Orient Blend? Amazon only sells a twin size.

      Missouri star has Queen size Quilter’s Dream bamboo (which I believe is the same?)

    after spray basting your quilt, do you wash it before you use the quilt or gift the quilt?

      I normally gift them with washing instructions and a few color catchers

    Quick question-I want to piece 9 pieces of minky for my backing. What size seam allowance do you use with minky? Thank you!!

    • @HomemadeEmilyJane
      @HomemadeEmilyJane  8 месяцев назад

      I’d recommend a half inch seam allowance, but you could probably get away with a smaller seam allowance if needed.

    Thank you for all the information. I am attempting to quilt a baby quilt with a walking foot. I am having trouble getting longer stitches. It ends up with baby stitches. Where can I go to find what I am missing.

      A few troubleshooting ideas: have you adjusted the stitch length setting on your machine? Are you sure your feed dogs are raised? I hope you figure it out 🫶🏼

      I'm having the same problem. Had to remove an entire line of stitching. Set stitch length a bit longer, feed dogs up and using walking foot. This video didn't say anything about the actual stitching part. My practice sandwich worked fine, but not on the quilt. Guess I'll try more practice and find another tutorial that actually gives tips for sewing with minky.

      Your quilt might be getting hung up and not moving freely through the feed dogs and walking foot. Make sure it's not caught on the front of your machine or getting bunched up at the back of your table.

    If the batting disintegrates on its own, is it washable as a component of a quilt?

    • @HomemadeEmilyJane
      @HomemadeEmilyJane  Год назад

      Which kind of batting are you referring to? Most will state on the package the maximum space between quilting stitches it needs in order to hold together appropriately. I’ve seen anywhere from about 3” apart to 12” apart depending on the batting and whether or not it has scrim. If you follow the minimum guidelines for your batting, it’s washable and will hold together.
