Shohei once said he was going to join Dodgers when he graduated Highschool but he ended up playing for Japanese professional baseball that resulted in increasing baseball fans in Japan…. His focus has been always passion rather than money. He has made so many choices over money for years and that is one of many reasons he is loved and respected so much by Japanese. Dodgers has been scouting him since 2012 and it was Shohei’s long term dream to join the team since he was little boy.

How many times did he have to put the Angels on his back and it got him nowhere? Now he has the help from 2 future HOFs (Betts, Freeman) and the resources to be competitive every single season. A lot of that money in his contract is deferred to represent that. If the Dodgers address their imperative need for pitching which I guarantee they will, the post-season won't be an issue either as long as they can remain HEALTHY and they're just getting started with free agency. So for those into stats, that's $70 million a season, which is about 8.75 WAR a season, 87.5 WAR for the next 10 years. Also remember that a large portion of his money is deferred, bringing the current present value down. Add to that his off the field value. The contract might be as crazy as it first sounds.

The 70 million per year average should 100% be counted towards the luxury tax.

And he's worth every single penny, too. He's the first two-way baseball player of worth since Babe Ruth. And since the National League has just recently adopted the DH, he can fill that spot when he's not pitching. He's also a great defensive player, but the Dodgers may want to keep him more as a DH, as lately he has been injured. So they'll probably want to make sure their investment is protected.
And he doesn't even have to move out of his house.
And the best part is, the Dodgers beat the Yankees _again!_ 😝

    Three things on this deal:
    1. Ohtani was signing with the Dodgers all along. The only question was the number 2. Ohtani didn't sign with them for any other reason than money. If he just wanted to win, why did he need $700M to sign? 3. His agent did a great job, lying to the other teams, using them only to pump up that price

They come in with a great attitude and a crazy contract comes into play and...... Nothing. I do hope to see Ohatani in a World Series cause one, he definitely deserves it but two, for that kind of money, you better single handedly win the World Series.
