I had this issue this morning and a mechanic told me that I needed to replace the entire steering rack...even though none of the typical symptoms with a busted steering rack was happening. Then he offered to buy the car at pennies since it'll need a lot of expensive work. I tried what you posted and the car is working perfectly.

Same happens with me .. I tried the solution in my lexus 2008 gs and works well .. but next day I got same issue hard and heavy steering wheel but no alarm... but I can solve it by doing the same way in the video...

Bro I got an IS 250 showing a steering wheel sign with an exclamation point next to it... Did you have the same issue? The above steps does not seems to be resolving my issue
I did this step and so far it worked. Has this step ever proven to be a temporary fix for the bad connection at the rack itself? Or does this stepnsolving the problem, put an end to it? Thanks bro! It helped me. Although my car wasn’t losing any power when driving and the P/S light wouldn’t turn on at all, it felt fine driving around. But if I was just to park and turn my wheel, the light would turn on. But now that I did your method, it’s gone! Should I still be concerned though?
No problem! If it comes on again there’s definitely something going on. If it’s not an issue with the steering rack even low power can cause the issue like a bad alternator or battery. Hopefully it doesn’t come back on for you.

So I passed a pool of water and after three days the p/s sign turns on, after reset it goes off but if I park the car for 6-10 hrs it turns on.. but it drives fine, no sound or noise, could it be cus of water on the sockets?

This method 100% works ! But my friend after powering off the vehicle and leaving it off for an hour or so and powering it back on the same issue arrises for me, red steering wheel light with the heaviness to the steering. Should I be concerned? Maybe water has been trapped in the connectors maybe? There was a really bad rain storm in which half my car was nearly submerged!

My daughter has an "06" Lexus is250. Her "check VSC and engine lights" both came on a couple days ago but she says it seems to be running ok even though the lights remain on. Yesterday she started the car and the power steering light came on but it had no power steering. She turned the car off and the restarted it and it was fine. Could this be due to an electric power steering computer, maybe the rack and pinion is bad? Thanks for the video, any tips would be helpful vs going to a dealership.
Your welcome! The VSC light will go on automatically with any check engine light. You would need to get the code pulled to see what it is. Any autozone can scan it for free. You can also reset it yourself and see if it comes back on. Did the P/S light go off when the steering worked again?
@@FlipITGarage Yes, the power steering light stayed off after she restarted the car but the VSC and engine light are still on. She says it seems to be running fine for the time being. I have a rav4 TRD 2020, I’m facing this issue whenever I take it for a long distance drive, specially when the whether gets quite hot. I took it to the maintenance to check it out but the power steering wheel lights error indicator gets off and on in a sudden ways, and that doesn’t affect the steering at all as long as i keep the engine on, but when I have to turn off the engine, then the steering wheel gets completely out of power and gets pretty impossible to turn. So I must always disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes at least then reconnect it again to get the electric power steering warning light off. It is very devastating doing that again and again, I wish that you can help me with this issue if you have any solutions for my weird problem.
Hi first of all thanks for sharing the trick. I ran my car through the flood and from the next day I had the check power steering lights when I started the car. I tried the trick you said and the lights went out. There is absolutely no difference in steering feel than earlier. If I start the car within a while say hour or so the check light doesn't appear but it appears if I start the car after a while. I took the car to diagnosis and error codeC1555 was found. The mechanic said the EPS EPU is the culprit and I showed him the trick and told him that the 4 pin connector in the axle may be loose as you said in your other video and it was a little loose and he fixed it after cleaning with some electronic cleaner. After which the steering alignment error popped up and he erased the error. Now the same issue is repeating, the warning message appears when I turn on the car after a while. Should I be worried or wait and see if the error goes off by itself. To add my battery is good, should I check the alternator since the error appears only when I start the car after a while. Your reply is greatly appreciated.
Your welcome. That’s a pretty detailed explanation and helps. Power can definitely cause the issue as well. You said the battery tested good. You should definitely check the alternator output as well. Best to eliminate the obvious first. If the 4 pin connector is making good contact then that’s not the issue. Is the steering binding when turning and making a binding type noise ?

Can you please explain, If I need to take the car to the mechanic and ask him to start the diagnosis, what should I ask him to start with as I don't want to spend or experiment on things which are not really faulty? I think my car's steering won't perform well if the ECU or steering motor is busted.
I just bought a 08 RX, to me it feels like the steering is way heavier than how a Levis should feel😅 i don't have any error symbols and it didn't make that clung, it just feel heavy. Anything i could do, check or reset see if it is actually something to do with the the power steering?

@@FlipITGarage I went to lexus today and they want 5800 to fix it, they said the rack is shorted out and ALL needs to be replaced, It has power steering still when I do your trick but it just feels really crappy like a old car. Will that connector fix help once my rack is already shorted?
Histly You can try and make sure it is secure. If it’s already to far gone you will need to replace the rack. Dealer quoted me about $6,000 I found one on eBay used for $350 and did it myself. Wasn’t easy took about 2 days on a garage floor. But did it over a year ago no issues. Donor car had 50K on it. Also make sure your car isn’t part of the recall. There was a recall on certain vin numbers and you may be able to get it replaced free at the dealer. Also if your going to pay someone to replace it best to goto a independent shop. You’ll save thousands.

Im having the same issue with my 2007 lexus gs 350. Its very hard to steer but the P/S light is not on. The P/S light never came on. Seems like my car is shorting out because the power will go out for a second causing the power steering not to work. I did try your method and it worked initially but then it started doing the same thing.
@@FlipITGarage turns out it was my battery and my air/fuel ratio sensor. Car was fine after I jump started it. Which lead to the engine light air / fuel discovery..

Hi, it’s pretty simple. You just turn the power on then turn it off then turn it back on. Leave the power on and jerk the steering wheel to the right a few times and the light should go off.

Hi, crossing the battery terminals can cause a lot of damage. But varies from vehicle to vehicle and how long it was hooked up wrong. Have you checked all the relays ? You can swap relays if they are the same part number. To check them. Also you may have burnt out a computer module. What are the exact issues you are having ? And what lights are on ?

I recently picked up a 2006 is250 awd and I started having an issue. First my battery died, hooked it up to a charger, and it didn't hold the charge, so I bought a lexus battery from a dealer. And when the battery was low, my power steering cut off, but it was fine after I replaced the battery 2 days ago. Now I'm running into an issue where my power steering cuts off randomly while driving. I searched it up on forums, and I'm getting multiple explanations on what it could be but no direct fix. As soon as the power steering cuts off, the display reads "Check VSC". For which I imagine is the stability control or traction control? I was thinking it could be my alternator or its belt but apparently its a very common issue and could be a connector or the computer for the power steering or the whole rack itself. Any thoughts on what it could be?
Iluminatiking47 From my experience as far as the power steering going out there’s a smaller 4 pin connector on the rack itself that was designed poorly and loses connection. You many be able to fix it with a zip tie to keep the connection secure. It’s closer to the passenger side and facing forward. That’s what causes these racks to fail. I’ll have a picture of it in my next video. And yes VSC is the stability control. It goes on automatically if the check engine light is triggered.
Iluminatiking47 I would also check to make sure your alternator is running properly. Use a volt meter while the car is running on the terminals and make sure it’s putting off between 13.8 - 14.2V somewhere around there.

I just didn't know where exactly to start, because every one had their own idea of what it could be but you seem to sound the most logical so I will definetly start there. @@FlipITGarage Yeah, I went and picked up a volt meter and checked, it was running at barely 11Volts, so I took it to the shop to get the alternator tested and turns out my alternator was bad. It was so bad that it was overheating and that was the cause of my last battery being burnt out. So I replaced that, and now the car seems to be fine, on my second day of driving it since i got it back, no power steering issues as of yet. So I guess finally fixed the power steering issue. Turns out wasn't as serious as I thought it was 😭😂

Randy Martosoewito Yes. The way I’ve done it in the past is to make sure the steering wheel is centered then disconnect the negative battery terminal. Wait 10 mins. Reconnect the battery. Then wait a few minutes. Start the car. The light might still be flashing. Just go around the block. Should shut off. Let me know how it goes.

Bro my 06 Gs300 been acting funny lately. It was working perfect then one cold morning would not crank I thought it was the starter until I tried to have it replaced but couldn’t the bolts off. So I randomly took the battery off the house charger a week later and i crunk up with no problem then a week later it got cold again now it won’t start up. Could it be my battery or something worse please help this my first car and this is hella confusing lol
@@FlipITGarage yeah only makes one little sound then nothing. This all started by me leaving a plugged into the cigarette lighter port that’s in the arm console. Could this have caused the problem? I’m really trying to keep from buying the wrong parts. My mechanic hooked it up to his machine but everything was fine so I’m guessing starter or alternator

@@FlipITGarage No I'm in the market for this car and a clean one is listed, says power steering works Intermittently and just needs a new torque sensor. It's a very different design from my Hondas.
@@FroztiProductions Steering angle sensor on this vehicle. If your buying it from a dealer and they say that’s all it is why wouldn’t they just fix it ? I’d be cautious, if you need a new electric steering rack it could run in the 1,000s.
Videos pretty old but hopefully I can get some help from u lol anyways. So randomly as I was parked at a restaurant I went to turn on my car and the p/s code popped up and it became hard to steer so I looked up what this p/s was and it popped up ur video I did the trick and it worked fine drove 45 minutes to a gas station turned the car off turned it back on the p/s light came back on and there was no power steering but then did the trick u did with the car agin and it had no p/s light and steering was working perfect will I have to do this every time now or have u figured out a way for it to permanently just drive normal lol the rack seems to be god no leaks no noises maybe a connection or sensor but it’s weird cause it works perfectly fine after I use ur trick if any help please and thank u will be going through some of these comments too lol

Lol very long day lol so when u zip tied that connection was it loose before or was there like no connection at all everything looks good underneath even that little connection it’s secured on there no wiggle room it’s on there but I took the battery off and then put it back on car worked perfectly fine I turned it off and on and didn’t give me the p/s light and it didn’t tense up until I went inside for about 10 minutes and went to try to start the car back up the light is back on and the steering is still stiff so finally I was thinking since it’s working fine but when I do the trick I wonder if it’s a battery problem idk when I do the trick maybe it triggers extra power so I took the battery off headed to auto zone they tested it and it’s a bad battery 0 cells but 100% charged could it maybe be the battery I’m going to find out tmr and get a replacement but anything else other then that
@@christophermartinez6986 The connector for me was secure too. I just made the connection tighter with the zip ties. Because the pins need to be pushed in further. A battery or alternator issue could also cause issues with the steering. It is possible. Since you need a new battery anyways. Might as well try that as well. Hopefully that alone fixes it.

I had the same problem and followed the way you did..p/s light went off but now my steering wheel stays on the right position while I drive even though I drive straight, and check vsc, check vgrs showing on dash along with afs flashing off, my alignment is ok just to be noted. @@FlipITGarageno it was not doing before like that, I got p/s light along with hard steering...then I followed the way you did. P/s went off but all other warning came on like, check vsc, check vgrs, also my steering is on right position now about 30 degrees even if i drive straight.
MV Garage there is a set of three numbers on the module first set is 89650-53020. Do the other two set of numbers must match. I’m looking at a few on eBay want to make sure
Jorge Ramos I’ve put other racks with different modules. So I assume it would be the same thing and work. As long as its the correct part number for your vehicle.

I have a 2009 gs350 , as I was driving my abs and traction control light came on once I got home I turned it off and tried starting again and my car had no power steering and my abs light was still on along with the traction control light, so what I did was disconnect the battery for 10 mins and the lights went away but came back after driving for about a mile . If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it .
@@FlipITGarage The code I pulled up was for the steering angle sensor , so I sent it to get diagnose and it turns out my aftermarket headlights were causing the issues I forgot to mentioned I also had a check headlight message appear on my dashboard but no check engine light.

As long as the connection stays strong it will continue to work. In my opinion they should have made new connectors and replace them for free.

But my friend after powering off the vehicle and leaving it off for an hour or so and powering it back on the same issue arrises for me, red steering wheel light with the heaviness to the steering. Should I be concerned? Maybe water has been trapped in the connectors maybe? There was a really bad rain storm in which half my car was nearly submerged!

My daughter has an "06" Lexus is250. Her "check VSC and engine lights" both came on a couple days ago but she says it seems to be running ok even though the lights remain on. Yesterday she started the car and the power steering light came on but it had no power steering. She turned the car off and the restarted it and it was fine. Could this be due to an electric power steering computer, maybe the rack and pinion is bad? Thanks for the video, any tips would be helpful vs going to a dealership.
Your welcome! The VSC light will go on automatically with any check engine light. You would need to get the code pulled to see what it is. Any autozone can scan it for free. The P/S light coming on with all those other lights may be an indication that the alternator is going bad. Did the P/S light go off when the steering worked again?

I have a rav4 TRD 2020, I’m facing this issue whenever I take it for a long distance drive, specially when the whether gets quite hot. I took it to the maintenance to check it out but the power steering wheel lights error indicator gets off and on in a sudden ways, and that doesn’t affect the steering at all as long as i keep the engine on, but when I have to turn off the engine, then the steering wheel gets completely out of power and gets pretty impossible to turn. So I must always disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes at least then reconnect it again to get the electric power steering warning light off. It is very devastating doing that again and again, I wish that you can help me with this issue if you have any solutions for my weird problem.

Hi first of all thanks for sharing the trick. I ran my car through the flood and from the next day I had the check power steering lights when I started the car. I tried the trick you said and the lights went out. There is absolutely no difference in steering feel than earlier. If I start the car within a while say hour or so the check light doesn't appear but it appears if I start the car after a while. I took the car to diagnosis and error codeC1555 was found. The mechanic said the EPS EPU is the culprit and I showed him the trick and told him that the 4 pin connector in the axle may be loose as you said in your other video and it was a little loose and he fixed it after cleaning with some electronic cleaner. After which the steering alignment error popped up and he erased the error. Now the same issue is repeating, the warning message appears when I turn on the car after a while. Should I be worried or wait and see if the error goes off by itself. To add my battery is good, should I check the alternator since the error appears only when I start the car after a while. Your reply is greatly appreciated.
Your welcome. That’s a pretty detailed explanation and helps. Power can definitely cause the issue as well. You said the battery tested good. You should definitely check the alternator output as well. Best to eliminate the obvious first. If the 4 pin connector is making good contact then that’s not the issue. Is the steering binding when turning and making a binding type noise ?

Can you please explain, If I need to take the car to the mechanic and ask him to start the diagnosis, what should I ask him to start with as I don't want to spend or experiment on things which are not really faulty? I think my car's steering won't perform well if the ECU or steering motor is busted.

Usually not but a weak battery or alternator can make the power steering act up. So definitely worth checking first.

@@FlipITGarage I went to lexus today and they want 5800 to fix it, they said the rack is shorted out and ALL needs to be replaced, It has power steering still when I do your trick but it just feels really crappy like a old car. Will that connector fix help once my rack is already shorted?
Histly You can try and make sure it is secure. If it’s already to far gone you will need to replace the rack. Dealer quoted me about $6,000 I found one on eBay used for $350 and did it myself. Wasn’t easy took about 2 days on a garage floor. But did it over a year ago no issues. Donor car had 50K on it. Also make sure your car isn’t part of the recall. There was a recall on certain vin numbers and you may be able to get it replaced free at the dealer. Also if your going to pay someone to replace it best to goto a independent shop. You’ll save thousands.

Im having the same issue with my 2007 lexus gs 350. Its very hard to steer but the P/S light is not on. The P/S light never came on. Seems like my car is shorting out because the power will go out for a second causing the power steering not to work. I did try your method and it worked initially but then it started doing the same thing.

Hi, it’s pretty simple. You just turn the power on then turn it off then turn it back on. Leave the power on and jerk the steering wheel to the right a few times and the light should go off.

Hello , I hope you can help me , I have Lexuse is220d , I changed battery and I put new one in wrong way -+ and after few sec I noticed and I correct it but since that I have no power steering at all ( steering is too tight) my sat nav , radio , gone- AA came and checked some fuses, he changed two of them but still is same, he said I can’t find what you blow but it’s computer system , my engine is running fine but all errors lights are ON - he said alternator not working and you blow it but I thought even alternator should have fuse - anyway I’m stuck and don’t know what to do - two mechanic came so far with that diagnosis machine but NO CODE .. nothing

Hi, crossing the battery terminals can cause a lot of damage. But varies from vehicle to vehicle and how long it was hooked up wrong. Have you checked all the relays ? You can swap relays if they are the same part number. To check them. Also you may have burnt out a computer module. What are the exact issues you are having ? And what lights are on ?

I recently picked up a 2006 is250 awd and I started having an issue. First my battery died, hooked it up to a charger, and it didn't hold the charge, so I bought a lexus battery from a dealer. And when the battery was low, my power steering cut off, but it was fine after I replaced the battery 2 days ago. Now I'm running into an issue where my power steering cuts off randomly while driving. I searched it up on forums, and I'm getting multiple explanations on what it could be but no direct fix. As soon as the power steering cuts off, the display reads "Check VSC". For which I imagine is the stability control or traction control? I was thinking it could be my alternator or its belt but apparently its a very common issue and could be a connector or the computer for the power steering or the whole rack itself. Any thoughts on what it could be?
Iluminatiking47 From my experience as far as the power steering going out there’s a smaller 4 pin connector on the rack itself that was designed poorly and loses connection. You many be able to fix it with a zip tie to keep the connection secure. It’s closer to the passenger side and facing forward. That’s what causes these racks to fail. I’ll have a picture of it in my next video. And yes VSC is the stability control. It goes on automatically if the check engine light is triggered.
Iluminatiking47 I would also check to make sure your alternator is running properly. Use a volt meter while the car is running on the terminals and make sure it’s putting off between 13.8 - 14.2V somewhere around there.

@@FlipITGarage Yeah, I went and picked up a volt meter and checked, it was running at barely 11Volts, so I took it to the shop to get the alternator tested and turns out my alternator was bad. It was so bad that it was overheating and that was the cause of my last battery being burnt out. So I replaced that, and now the car seems to be fine, on my second day of driving it since i got it back, no power steering issues as of yet. So I guess finally fixed the power steering issue. Turns out wasn't as serious as I thought it was 😭😂

The module doesn’t usually go bad. More than likely the steering rack. Best to get it diagnosed so your not throwing money at it for no reason.

Randy Martosoewito Yes. The way I’ve done it in the past is to make sure the steering wheel is centered then disconnect the negative battery terminal. Wait 10 mins. Reconnect the battery. Then wait a few minutes. Start the car. The light might still be flashing. Just go around the block. Should shut off. Let me know how it goes.

Bro my 06 Gs300 been acting funny lately. It was working perfect then one cold morning would not crank I thought it was the starter until I tried to have it replaced but couldn’t the bolts off. So I randomly took the battery off the house charger a week later and i crunk up with no problem then a week later it got cold again now it won’t start up. Could it be my battery or something worse please help this my first car and this is hella confusing lol
Do you have a check engine light or any error lights ? What does it do when you can’t start it ? Crank or anything? Could be a number of things.

@@FlipITGarage yeah only makes one little sound then nothing. This all started by me leaving a plugged into the cigarette lighter port that’s in the arm console. Could this have caused the problem? I’m really trying to keep from buying the wrong parts. My mechanic hooked it up to his machine but everything was fine so I’m guessing starter or alternator

@@FlipITGarage No I'm in the market for this car and a clean one is listed, says power steering works Intermittently and just needs a new torque sensor. It's a very different design from my Hondas.
@@FroztiProductions Steering angle sensor on this vehicle. If your buying it from a dealer and they say that’s all it is why wouldn’t they just fix it ? I’d be cautious, if you need a new electric steering rack it could run in the 1,000s.
Videos pretty old but hopefully I can get some help from u lol anyways. So randomly as I was parked at a restaurant I went to turn on my car and the p/s code popped up and it became hard to steer so I looked up what this p/s was and it popped up ur video I did the trick and it worked fine drove 45 minutes to a gas station turned the car off turned it back on the p/s light came back on and there was no power steering but then did the trick u did with the car agin and it had no p/s light and steering was working perfect will I have to do this every time now or have u figured out a way for it to permanently just drive normal lol the rack seems to be god no leaks no noises maybe a connection or sensor but it’s weird cause it works perfectly fine after I use ur trick if any help please and thank u will be going through some of these comments too lol

Lol very long day lol so when u zip tied that connection was it loose before or was there like no connection at all everything looks good underneath even that little connection it’s secured on there no wiggle room it’s on there but I took the battery off and then put it back on car worked perfectly fine I turned it off and on and didn’t give me the p/s light and it didn’t tense up until I went inside for about 10 minutes and went to try to start the car back up the light is back on and the steering is still stiff so finally I was thinking since it’s working fine but when I do the trick I wonder if it’s a battery problem idk when I do the trick maybe it triggers extra power so I took the battery off headed to auto zone they tested it and it’s a bad battery 0 cells but 100% charged could it maybe be the battery I’m going to find out tmr and get a replacement but anything else other then that
@@christophermartinez6986 The connector for me was secure too. I just made the connection tighter with the zip ties. Because the pins need to be pushed in further. A battery or alternator issue could also cause issues with the steering. It is possible. Since you need a new battery anyways. Might as well try that as well. Hopefully that alone fixes it.

I had the same problem and followed the way you did..p/s light went off but now my steering wheel stays on the right position while I drive even though I drive straight, and check vsc, check vgrs showing on dash along with afs flashing off, my alignment is ok just to be noted.

@@FlipITGarageno it was not doing before like that, I got p/s light along with hard steering...then I followed the way you did. P/s went off but all other warning came on like, check vsc, check vgrs, also my steering is on right position now about 30 degrees even if i drive straight.

Is it true that is the Power steering module is replaced it needs calibration.
Jorge Ramos rack replacement doesn’t require calibration. I’ve done it before. Plug and play.
MV Garage there is a set of three numbers on the module first set is 89650-53020.
Do the other two set of numbers must match. I’m looking at a few on eBay want to make sure

I have a 2009 gs350 , as I was driving my abs and traction control light came on once I got home I turned it off and tried starting again and my car had no power steering and my abs light was still on along with the traction control light, so what I did was disconnect the battery for 10 mins and the lights went away but came back after driving for about a mile . If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it .

@@FlipITGarage The code I pulled up was for the steering angle sensor , so I sent it to get diagnose and it turns out my aftermarket headlights were causing the issues I forgot to mentioned I also had a check headlight message appear on my dashboard but no check engine light.
