  • This Honda F501 tiller came in burning oil like crazy. The customer just wanted to replace the engine, instead of looking at why it was burning oil. No problem, he supplied the engine as well. Let's see how it goes.
See what the engine problem was and how I fixed it here. (2 part video for that)

Nice re-power, so much cooler when you can keep original controls operating. Nice job figuring all that out, I bet most will just throw the new motor on without a thought to the original operating system.

Thanks Len. I'm happy I could get those working as well. I had to figure out how to tie it in with the oil level sensor on the new engine.

Great job. Love that old patina. Takes time to think thru and adapt.

It was an interesting one. Good machine. It was worth the effort and cost. I think the engine was around $195 CDN

Yep, it's a much older version of a model they still make. The original engine was a Japan made one. I've already uploaded the video on when I took it all apart, diagnosed the problem and fixed it. That was an interesting video, you'd be surprised at what I found was the problem. I just edited the description with links to that 2 part video. That engine is sitting in my shed waiting to be used again.

What are you using to check the tach? I would like to buy a tool that would measure tach like that.
