I am so impressed with your creativity and willingness to see things through. Having a friend to stay with, so to speak, makes the idea of coming over to visit so much better! Yes my friend and that is why I'm finishing off that area. I feel some will come that might not otherwise. And after here a short time they will feel at ease about staying longer. That is the reason I'm finishing it now
On curved radius wall, take foil insulation like they use under roof panels..Cut just one side with razor knife about every 1 to 2 inches..make sure the lines go with he lines of the insulation ,,lwhen you roll it up you will see it has a direction..attach it with glue or any other method and have the uncutface of the insulation facing inward..Hope this isn't too confusing,,was a contractor many years😊
That sounds like the material I had in mind. So you install it using glue? Thank you for the comment. I feel like I'm on the right track more now. It's like 3/8" thick comes in rolls?
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I think he is referring to a thicker product such as Celotex/ Kingspan etc. Which is a rigid foil faced high density closed cell foam of various available thicknesses. It has a much higher "R" value than that thin foil product you are thinking of. That is just a radiant heat deflector and is not a very good " insulator". Rockwall fibre glass insulation is another good option which is a thick soft product that comes in big rolls and easy to cut and shape. It what we use in our lofts in England .
Hi Darrel,..great 👍 to see you back. I love your "vision" on your house and I really like the way it is "transforming" into. The new roof on the outside extension and the surrounding walls are starting to look real nice now. Take care my friend and keep up the great work.
Cool space. If it was me, I'd probably go with a comfy hammock instead of a bed. Light, bright colors with a tropical theme. Like white walls with rainforest mural coming from floor and halfway up. Lots of hanging plants. I'd keep the concrete floor and do a cool but tasteful design and clear coat epoxy it. A couple of upholstered furniture items, like a small loveseat and a couple of small comfy chairs in solid turquoise and yellow with tangerine complementary colored pillows. Oh boy, I have a vision. 😂😂😂🤷🏼♀️
The purposed bedding area is prehaps to enclosed , i think your suggestion about a sofa bed kept central in the room would work better. Well done to you, it's coming along nicely.
Would do a reflective layer in the roof then spray foam insulation for reduced heat build up. You also need dehumidifiers to add comfort. The bamboo sounds like an excellent plan, though it might need frequent replacing if you fail to make sure the heat can escape. The other thing is will it be rodent resistant? May want to treat it to make it repellent to rodents that may otherwise use it. Would put in a translucent glass panel to the front side for light, while retaining privacy. Is there a bathroom inside the house or must use the one around to the outside?
Yeah, I love the vision for the place. Sounds like a good idea. I don’t necessarily like the idea of a sofa bed. I’m a bigger guy so if I was to go there, I would feel not as comfortable in that situation. I like to have more structure underneath mewhile I sleep, but everything else sounds fantastic
Thank you for your comments. I'm a bit on the fence I guess. Most of those who would come I think are near or over 60ish. So a good bed may be better than the table and chair idea
Derrell... you are doing it great.... You already understand much of the Filipino mentality and working it to your best use and opportunity... Over time your place will take its shape and meaning with your dreams and inspiration... Cheers...
I have seen a restaurant in Thailand set up a garden sprinkler/ watering system on their metal roof to help keep it cool. It uses a pump to recirculate the water from a large tank in a continuous cycle. Not sure if the pump is run off solar but that would make sense. Drywall can be curved by cutting a lot of vertical slits in the back of it but using a thinner plywood might be an easier option. The bamboo screening on the external walls will help with the heat gain and looks good when the colour mellows with rope attached top and bottom.
I suppose instead of the bamboo on the walls you could power wash and paint it as well. Maybe have a local artist even add a meural either the whole wall or just different areas
It's been suggested before for the outer walls of the property. But those walls are less than 6'. I like the looks of bamboo walls I've seen at resorts and that's what I was envisioning being 8' high. I'm a corner lot with streets on 3 sides.
Yes. Not actually Airbnb but exact same concept. Only for the subscribers not the general tourists. Not in it for profit but breaking even for the extra expense would be nice. Thanks for the comment my friend
Love the work and happy to see you looking well. Personally I would wait until the build was complete before deciding where to put the furniture as you'll have a better idea of space etc 😊
Hahaha.. I was in there today measuring. A Murphy fold down bed on one side and a fold down table on the other. They couldn't both be down at the same time
I might add windows in the from if it's too dark. It will stay much cooler if the windows are out of the direct sun light. I will be having a door made with glass in it. That's the plan at this point
You have a vision! The concrete so you dont walk in the mud going to the washroom is great. I like the blue. Re the subscriber Air B&B - where is this place? 👍
I am often touched by the love I feel from people I've never met. That's the awesome surprise of having a RUclips channel. That part never occurred to me. It's like giving back a little to the subscribers
I enjoy meting subscribers. I also want to have a safe place where those sitting on the fence can feel comfortable enough to come and see for themselves
Hi Darrell, what a great start, its already looking good, and im sure when finished it will look great, as you have a good vision of what you want it to look like, also a place for your subscribers to rent, to see what province life is all about, what a great idea, looking forward to seeing the finished article, and the trolls who talk about you wearing a hat , its just sheer ignorance on their part, respect 🏴
Vert cool. The vision is coming into frustration. The steel, all metal is going to be a hotbox, even with aircon condensation may build up, then more mold. Your idea for the bamboo outside of the metal is great. Have a great day.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat very cool. Looks great mate. Does not feel like a year ago at all. Just a thought where the fence wall is: How about 2 or 3 rows of glass bricks meeting up with the ceiling to let some extra natural light in? May be difficult though as you've already put the wall frame in on that side. You can get them in varying levels of opaque. The string some curtains along there to block it as needed. Love the bamboo, and yes, it is excellent insulation which is a must especially if you want to keep the cool from the AC in.
Thank you. That's one for the bamboo. I was thinking about glass block in there but it would be kind of a cluster with odd angles. Looks doable facing straight on but from the end you can see the angles and the main idea requires sealing it off from rain moisture etc. I think the light will be good. If not I will probably make a glade block window maybe a few pieces wide from the floor to ceiling in the from facing the street
And as for the hats, as an Aussie who's had multiple melanomas removed (all benign so far), keep wearing it. I'm old enough that when I first joined the navy we spent most of our time on the upper decks shirtless with no sunscreen in the warmer climates.
I'm one of those pale northern types that can get sunburn thinking warm thoughts. One of the first things I learned here is that you to *NOT* eff around with tropical sunshine. It isn't that warm friendly glow you get during early summer in the high latitudes. It's more like the flash from a detonating hydrogen bomb. If you somehow manage to adapt to it, you can probably get a job doing internal repairs on nuclear reactors without shutting them down. I've seen SPF150 sun block for sale here. I have shirts that don't provide that protection level.
Understood my friend and well explained too. My hat also covers my ears and people can't understand why I wear long sleeve shirts. Do you remember where you saw it and how much the 150 was ?
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat It was quite a while back. I bought a bottle but I'm not a big fan of slopping chemical glop on my hide. A few years ago they did a study that discovered the active ingredient in the high PF blocks was a carcinogen worse than the UV exposure. If they still market the crap I wouldn't use it. I wear a wide brim hat to keep my ears from becoming chicharrones.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat 150 would be impossible. How is it possible to have 150 percent protection? I think 100 percent is the solid white zinc some people use on their nose.
@@JohnSmith-ti2kp SPF isn't a percentage, it's a marketing term that stands for Solar Protection Factor. I don't know exactly how it's determined but suspect it's something like the proof number on distilled alcohol. (100 proof has an alcohol content of 50%) The zinc cream would probably have an SPF of 200 if there was a serious attempt to market it.
@@joekahno It is a percentage, SPF 15 offers 15 times the sun protection compared to nothing, so SPF 50 would be 50 times the protection. I read that really only up to 30 is actually possible, but maybe the technology is better now.
Thank you Nigel! Yes I thought the roof going to be re-used was worth including in the video. There are so many nice things we get to do here that make so much sense and improve the life of others around us here. And they cost little to nothing but make such a big difference. There are 3 generations in his house that will no longer have to deal with leaks in the roof.

I love it. Been a fan for over 10 months I think. Can u provide a list of your expenses in remodeling the “rental for subscribers”, please. I’m a 71 yr female and appreciate a man who fulfills his visions.
Thank you Deborah. I will be doing a video on that in about a month or less, I hope on the entire property. From what you can see in the video, labor and materials is around $800.
I love the new metal extension be it mancave or extra bedroom/studio, as only a one bed house more living space or sleeping space always useful. It is coming together just like your first vision of it, great to watch I may add. The fact that the old roof in its entirety went to the worker for his home, was the best point. People of the Philippines struggle due to low income and are not frightened of the extra work, so your job benefited all, just like the shelter you made for the local drivers in the town. Helping the community and becoming a resident who cares about others is such a needed thing nowadays! I would definitely have a double bed or double day bed to use as a sofa too, small kitchen if to be used as an additional bedroom, as water, tea/coffee counter is probably all that is needed. If to be used as an additional bed sitting room for another renter or guest then your kitchen idea works brilliantly. The bathroom would have been my priority, as the roof leaks and doesn't look as inviting as your main house now does and it will be shared by the main house. But OMG, you done an excellent job on it all so far and cannot wait to see more. Archie and Bob love the house and cool tiles to lie on I would imagine, their own little hammock in the shade outside will be perfect to accompany you in your retired relaxation periods.
Hey EPE, nice to see you like living there well enough to really dig-in. Looking good, surely it will be as successful as you want it to be. You've got yourself quite a little work force there. Glad all is well.
Great channel! I like people that find ways to make do with little. And you look really young. I would have thought you were in your fifties so well done mate!
Hi, hope you are well, your making wonderful progress, I enjoy watching your vids, great build going up & perfect plans and ideas, maybe say it’s for friends (subscribers) to stay over, just so you don’t get into trouble for subletting, many thanks for your videos wishing you much good luck 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Thank you Allison!! The idea of renting is only as a vacation rental. I have no intention or interest in any thing beyond that. It is not an investment income idea
Hey Buddy, I love your idea for the guest room. Also the idea of covering the front curve of the wall with bamboo. As an interior designer, I can strongly recommend leaning into that vibe of mixing modern finishes with lots of rustic natural accents like the bamboo to keep it feeling warm. Blue is my favorite color. But I think it's a bit stark against the soft traditional details of the front of the house. I can suggest painting the navy blue the color of Bamboo when it is dried (beige) so it blends in behind the bamboo. A more fun option would be to paint it black for a more shadowed look behind the bamboo. It would still be more modern and would tie into the black on the window trim and metal work. I understand this would not be the best choice for trying to cool the wall however. I'm sure what ever you choose will look great. Also I would strongly vote against a sofa bed. No one wants to sleep on one. Maybe have a murphy bed made up? Perhaps one that has a fold out table top to use when the bed is in the put away position. Two birds one stone, and a real night sleep. 😴 Love the videos!
Love that you think outside the box. My 2 cents...Metal gets hot and is not a good insulator. You are in the tropics so the bamboo would be a very cool look and keep the direct sunlight from heating up the metal. I live in Arizona so I know of what I speak. That metal will be hotter if direct light hits it. Love the vision. Keep up the great work. Love the videos.
They just installed the electric today and Wednesday through Friday will be doing dry wall and building up the height of the wall. That will provide additional insulation on the flat wall areas. Then all I need to do is figure what I will put on the curved walls. I already know the insulation for that
Check out the screw-in ceiling fan / light combos. The ones with big blades are very good. I have one of the "Seen on TV" models in my laundry room and it works excellent. Whisper quiet, moves a lot of air and has a remote.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat It must be lower than that, 8' is the standard height in the US and we have normal ceiling fans in every room. Maybe you are very tall...lol
Your child has learnt how best to walk. Stained akaman wall/ceiling might/would look good, 20 ft wall, 3 plugs should do, tv wall, high/low plug would work just fine, but it's coming together. As it's said, what doesn't happen in a year can happen in a day🎉🎉🎉.
I thought you mentioned bamboo to be against the block wall in past videos That I like. I'm not sure about bamboo for the mancave. Maybe it would look good. But if you decide not to use bamboo for the mancave, I would definitely repaint it with a neutral accent to the white main house. Look forward to next update
I'm already planning for the wall. It's the man cave I'm not sure of. I will line some up against it. But in the video I laid some on the ground to get an idea of how many pieces I would need to cover the walls. That also is how it would look if you can imagine that same look up against the man cave. The insulation could be awesome on the curved areas. I'm just not sure yet
That you my friend. It was expensive and had to be done as one project. So it took a while to save up the money. But it's mostly all paid for now and just needs put together
Yes and I want to get down there and see your place too. When you come you can use the Man Cave. Bring a friend with you too if you like. We miss my friend
Very Interesting, especially how you are doing the outside wall. Hope you keep videoing the progress. The muriatic acid would work well on the tiled bathroom. After using the acid, it would be a good time to touch up any grout. Make sure you seal all the grout afterwards. How long is your lease again? Thought it was only for a couple years. Keep up the great work, Daryl...Jim
I have two years remaining on the first part of the lease and two extensions. It seems a lot for not owning the property. But this is my home for now and my hobby. Many people spend more on their hobbies and rarely even use them. Like a motor home or a boat or example
Yes I was thinking about those fans typically used in bathrooms. Air blowing in at one end from the aircon and exhaust fan at the other end blowing out the hot air
I had a same set up when i was living in a village near Nong Khai, i mean the carport - and i replace two panels with those lightly transparent plastic to add light inside and i did the same on the roof house to add light It was my kitchen
In that area between the roof pannels and the ceiling there will be insulation. But I was thinking if it really needs more light then I would install a floor to ceiling glass block window in the front
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat i also added insulation with rolls self adhesive alluminium cover with insulate material inside - 1 meters by 6 meters and 1 roll cost something like 4$ or 5$ each
I would split the bamboo into half moon so it sits flush and double the amount and use it on the inside it would give it character and act as a decent insulator as well. Great to see you living your dream! keep on truckin

I would be interested in staying for a week or two. Why not use live Bamboo along the property walls? It expands it's range using shallow runners so, to avoid being over run, you would make a shallow concrete barrier, sort of like what I see in the videos. I think it only needs to be like 12" deep. Instant live wall that stays where it should
I like the look it would have as already harvested bamboo and uniform. I'v dealt with live bamboo in San Diego and just not as happy with the look of it. But thank you for the suggestion

Nice job. It is coming along. That will be a nice little space for someone. And a separate entrance is a plus. Best wishes with the project. 😊
Thank you!!
Hi Darrel,..great 👍 to see you back.
I love your "vision" on your house and I really like the way it is "transforming" into.
The new roof on the outside extension and the surrounding walls are starting to look real nice now.
Take care my friend and keep up the great work.
Thanks you so much Floriberto! Thank you for taking the time to say hi!!
@@Ex-Pensive_ExpatAlways welcome my friend.
I like the epoxy concrete floor idea. Thank you !! I would need to find a concrete polisher and haven't seen that here
The purposed bedding area is prehaps to enclosed , i think your suggestion about a sofa bed kept central in the room would work better.
Well done to you, it's coming along nicely.
Thank you James. It is a little small area for mostly a bed. That's not totally unusual here though
The bathroom was in the video at the end. It's next to the back door on the left
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat
So outside-ish...
Half the way through the video the bathroom was enclosed and no longer outside ish. It's closer to the end that becomes obvious I thought
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat
Thank you. Was wondering.
Cheers...
Thank you Dan. I look forward to meeting you some day
I have seen a restaurant in Thailand set up a garden sprinkler/ watering system on their metal roof to help keep it cool.
All great ideas. Yes I forgot about the curving of drywall with the cuts in it. I actually have done that before. Good thought!!
You've got great energy. I couldn't get past the thought of it all 😅 I'm 62
I'll be 70 in December. My health has improved since I came here
I suppose instead of the bamboo on the walls you could power wash and paint it as well.
I think your Air BNB Main Cave idea is a great idea. It will provide extra income and a win win for both sides. You and your visitors. 👍
Yes. My question was a sofa and bed. Or sleeper sofa and table & Chairs. There really isn't enough for both. It's 33 SQM
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat have you thought about one of those tables that fold down from the wall?
Hahaha.. I was in there today measuring. A Murphy fold down bed on one side and a fold down table on the other. They couldn't both be down at the same time
Looks nice, great ideas. I would add windows, maybe one in the front and another on the side above the fence for light and cross ventilation.
It's in Porac Pampanga. Near Angeles City and Clark International airport
Great to see the updates, everything is looking great.😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Nice. What a great way to help others who want to see what living in the province is like.
Thank you Kim. When are you coming??
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat As soon as that room is ready! 😹😹
Is that a promise??
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I want to say yes, but life sometimes gets in the way. So a tentative yes.
Best to come when you feel a combination of comfortable and adventurous
Looking really good, you have a kind heart. Love the idea of the spare room for visitors!
I am often touched by the love I feel from people I've never met. That's the awesome surprise of having a RUclips channel. That part never occurred to me. It's like giving back a little to the subscribers
Now you've done it...
I hope you like 'company' (present commenter included)... 🤣😅😉👍
Thank you for the kind words. Trolls will be trolls. Maybe it's a compliment that that's all they can come up with
Vert cool. The vision is coming into frustration. The steel, all metal is going to be a hotbox, even with aircon condensation may build up, then more mold.
Your idea for the bamboo outside of the metal is great.
Have a great day.
There will be a lot insulation. It hasn't been too hot yet..There will be some ventilation with 5" between the ceiling and the roof panels
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat very cool. I like watching your laid back, intelligent approach to moving to the Philippines using a low maintenance budget and succeeding higher than the “let me show you how” expats. I am following the positive creators and will land after the elections. With assurance of no riots, etc, then by Jan 6, 2025 no riots or drama I can start my retirement journey.
Thanks for the content.
I look forward to meeting you when you start adventure
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat that makes sense on the glass block thing.
And as for the hats, as an Aussie who's had multiple melanomas removed (all benign so far), keep wearing it. I'm old enough that when I first joined the navy we spent most of our time on the upper decks shirtless with no sunscreen in the warmer climates.
That was the way it was then
that is gone be a nice extra place and a great idea for a airbnb looking forward to the result
Only for subscriber lol. But vacation style for you guys who might want to see what the province life is all about
I'm one of those pale northern types that can get sunburn thinking warm thoughts.
Happy to see the old roof went to a good home .place looks great bamboo is my vote island vibe
Man with a plan! Looking great!
Thank you my friend. Do you live in Valencia??

Wow Daryll, It looks amazing now...Good job!👏👏👏 Maybe you can add a bit of pocket window just above the door way and on the kitchen for ventilation so the air flows can just makes the room cooler when you maybe don't use your aircon and or electric fan..
I am considering putting exhaust fans one in and one out on the opposite ends of the main room
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat That's a good Idea too.

I like your design on the man cave.
Thank you my friend. Soon you can come and stay if you like.
The bamboo would be cool just get a good design idea thats all

Thank you for the kind words.
All I can say is wow I keep learning and learning from your Channel thank you bro
Thank you for the comment my friend!!
Wow Thank you so much for the ideas> Thank you for taking so much time to explain it !!
looking very groovy brother ! cannot wait to see the finished product... with any luck, in person ! safe journey

Hello my friend. Are you still in the Philippines
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Yes.
Where?
Brilliant Idea my friend. I love it.
Thank you Garry!!
Thank you for your thoughts. I am thinking of painting the roof white and will also be using a lot of insulation.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat You are welcome. You are doing a great job. Sending you positive mojo my friend. Take care. Videos are awesome.

Can't wait to see the finished project.
They just installed the electric today and Wednesday through Friday will be doing dry wall and building up the height of the wall. That will provide additional insulation on the flat wall areas. Then all I need to do is figure what I will put on the curved walls. I already know the insulation for that
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I kind of like the idea of bamboo.
It's turning out to be the popular opinion

Check out the screw-in ceiling fan / light combos. The ones with big blades are very good. I have one of the "Seen on TV" models in my laundry room and it works excellent. Whisper quiet, moves a lot of air and has a remote.
The problem is the ceiling is not really high enough. It's only 8 ft high
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat It must be lower than that, 8' is the standard height in the US and we have normal ceiling fans in every room. Maybe you are very tall...lol
The ceiling slopes downward. I was limited with the other roof then ended to continue the slope so one end might be closer to 7'
Grate job can't wait for the completion great video
You and me both! I am anxious to get the construction finished and just chill
Thank you Junior. Always nice to see your comments my friend
GREAT Progress ...Lookin good
Thank you Flip!!
Looks good to me keep up the good work. Godbless
Thanks, you too!

Hey Darrel, I like what you’re doing with your place. I’d definitely be interested in it Lyall
When I am finished it will be another video or two. People wanting to come stay to experience the province life will be able to try it from here
Very Interesting, especially how you are doing the outside wall.

Maybe put in an extractor fan or two up high to pull the hot air out just an idea
Yes I was thinking about those fans typically used in bathrooms. Air blowing in at one end from the aircon and exhaust fan at the other end blowing out the hot air
I had a same set up when i was living in a village near Nong Khai, i mean the carport - and i replace two panels with those lightly transparent plastic to add light inside and i did the same on the roof house to add light
It was my kitchen
In that area between the roof pannels and the ceiling there will be insulation. But I was thinking if it really needs more light then I would install a floor to ceiling glass block window in the front
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat i also added insulation with rolls self adhesive alluminium cover with insulate material inside - 1 meters by 6 meters and 1 roll cost something like 4$ or 5$ each
Very nice to know > I will look for it
I would split the bamboo into half moon so it sits flush and double the amount and use it on the inside it would give it character and act as a decent insulator as well. Great to see you living your dream! keep on truckin
Thank you my friend for the encouragement and kind words
Wall mounted fan. Anything to keep the air moving, especially if cooking…

Yes maybe two or three more at the most and those will be soon. Thank you my friend
