  • This is a really important question, most of us that suffer from chronic illness are NOT able to shower and bath that often.

My name is Charlie and I am disabled. I live with chronic illness, I have a severe form of Psoriatic Arthritis and its crap! I am in pain all the time and always battling fatigue. BUT, I will not let it win. I love to learn and to laugh (even though it hurts my arthritic rib cage LOL). You will often see Ollie (she) my black Labrador. She is currently my trainee assistance dog! We are together, literally ALL the time.

OMG! I am actually crying hearing that someone else understands the difficulties and realities of bathing/showering with a chronic disability. Without going into too much detail, I have suffered with ill health for the past 47 years and as you rightly say, for me to shower (bathing is out of the question) is not only hazardous to my health but could also be potentially life threatening to me. As such, I will admit to having a full shower at least once a week but in reality it could actually be once every three weeks. I am currently going through my PIP reassessment but unfortunately the person I had helping me is no longer able to due to her own disability. If anyone out there can help then I would love to hear from you and I would be only too glad to give you more details of my daily struggles x.

"...work understood more than my wife" is possibly the saddest sentence I've ever read. I'm so sorry.
I have one of the motherlode neuro pain disorders and I look perfectly normal. I still look in the mirror, convinced I'll see bone sticking out - we cannot make sense of invisible pain, no matter how long or how severe. And one of the worst things is the effect it's had on my loved ones, but they're the reason I hang on, even though we see each other maybe twice a decade. Pain is the loneliest thing but it's even lonelier in company that doesn't understand. We put so much effort into the facade and home is the one place you should be able to at least drop the act.
I have no idea why I wrote this essay, either. Just....ykwim.

It's great to get any advice about PIP etc. I find it hard to have to rely on others & put on a brave face. I mirror Mica412's dilemma. Being single & not having someone around to prompt & help with showering/bathing, cooking & cleaning etc, is very difficult. I suspect Mica, like myself, has always been very independent & giving up that "freedom" is difficult. My local council do not classify me as disabled, as I don't use a wheelchair. Not that it would help, as I live in a maisonette on the 3rd floor without a lift. Keep up the good work.

I'm waiting for a form from PIP for my 27yr old daughter whom has Neurofibromatosis type 1. She has a very large Tumor growing out from her spinal cord and this affects her circulation, nervous system and leaves her in constant pain.
I've tried TWICE to get her PIP but they aren't awarding her ANY points. Even though she is severely impacted on daily living and mobility.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. Hopefully your videos will help us win this time.

It’s vital that, before you complete the PIP test, you understand that just because you can carry out an activity, that doesn’t mean you are prevented from scoring points for being unable to do it.
You need to be able to complete an activity ‘reliably’ in order for it to apply. According to the guidance, ‘reliably’ means whether you can do so:
    Safely
    To an acceptable standard
    Repeatedly
In a reasonable time period, no more than twice as long as a person without a physical or mental health condition would take to carry out the activity.
So, for example, if you can ‘wash and bathe unaided’ you will not score any points for that activity. But if it takes you hours to do so or it would be dangerous to leave you alone to bathe - for example, because you might have a seizure - then you may score points.
Or if you could walk 20 metres once, but afterwards you would be so exhausted that you could not do so again for hours or you would be unable to carry out other everyday activities after walking 20 metres, then you may count as not being able to do so.

Hi.. I've only just started watching you.. And no,, I didn't notice your hair and no, I didn't notice the back ground.
I've had CRPS for donkeys years and I've been through the process a couple of times. My life is my life and normal to me but what other people would consider as far from ideal, even my consultants. Although I've always went through my interviews with success I've always lived ...and still do , with the fear that one day that might all change - as you probably know.
Anyway. You seem like a hero in the face of adversity and I'd love to have you by my side when my time comes around again. At no cost to you.

I believe PIP should go by what your GP says on what information they have the old DHSS had this system before, but it's the Horror now on the constant reviews and assessments repeating every time to the DWP it's the Battle you need to keep on giving but many genuine suffers don't carry on becuase it's exhausting and causes more problems itself, but we have way to many fakes running around that put this stress on the genuine. i believe the DWP auditors are looking at all the claims and just rejecting, PIP have record amount of people 360,000 claims in 2023, and only accepted like under 10000, PIP is designed to give you independence you pay someone to help you , but it seems we have many people thinking you can claim for pip if you have a condition but that depends how it affects you on a daily basis. we are lucky to have this system that helps but doesn't help with the fakes who siphon from the system, and who the Hell want's to go tribunal that's another killer and now we have a paranoid system wouldn't surprise me PIP gets eliminated and implemented in to another harder system just watch the next couple of years Scotland just pulled out in time

Thankyou for this. Even with my chronic conditions I am in the process of trying to navigate and help my Son with PIP. He has a phone call assessment this week.
It is hereditary and it breaks my heart seeing him suffer knowing I passed this onto him.
It took four years on the old system for me with dla and tribunal in 2010.
Dreading the day when they decide its time for me to move over to PIP.
In the meantime I'm having to find what little energy I have left in me to help my Son.

About 2 1/2 years ago was the last time I had a bath! I have arthritis in multiple joints and I’d managed to get in with a struggle and to sit down in the bath but when I came to getting back out, I found I actually couldn’t get up and I was stuck in the bath! It took over half an hour to get out. I had to empty the bath water, turn around on all fours and literally haul myself out. The bruising was colourful! It was a stressful and scary event and so now I’ll flannel wash top to bottom, whilst sitting on the loo. Using the bath edge and wash basin to aid me up and down. Hmm feet I can just get my legs into the bath, sitting again on the edge and I’ll shower them but it’s not frequently and on a better day..heyho

I love having a bath, so good for my pain, but it takes so much energy to get in and out, and get dry, all things that well people don't even think about.

Hi Charlie, and thank you so much for your brilliant dedication to PIP advice, and your genuine sincerity. I love when your dog blocks your screen, and you talk around her snuffling in front of the camera ☺ I do need to ask your advice on the Mobility section of PIP: my Mobility has been deemed recently been concluded as 0 . The letter I recieved in January this year is full of outright mistruths concerning what I told the Health Proffessional I spoke to on the phone...in July last year. I wonder if you can tell me how the PIP assess Mobility, and without a Doctors report. Sincerely, Rachael 🌷

I have only just stumbled across your channel but unfortunately a lot of what you say highlights the difficulties I have in proving my own case for PIP high rate. You say you should state that you need prompting/assistance/help from your partner or friend when it comes to daily activities. What happens when you live alone, as I do and you don't have anyone to help or prompt you with showering, cooking etc etc? As far as the DWP are concerned as I HAVE to do these things by myself then surely I am ABLE to do these things by myself so it's a case of computer says no! I actually lost my Motability car on this analogy because as far as they were concerned because I could get to hospital appointments myself - even though I explained this was only possible with the use of the Motability car - they deemed me as no longer needing that much help so that was the end of that😰

Lovely dog. Mine won't allow me to below or fed-up. He comes up and demands cuddles. Regarding how the Agency behave, it was no better as DHSS. I was at Uni with two former Staff; both left because they were 'carpeted for helping people too much. In my own case, when refusing grant or loans, the DWP kept expecting me to scrounge from friends. Have you experienced PIP telling applicants that they look too well dressed, to need Benefits? I know someone who has.

Question: when needing assistance, does this need to be every time? What if its only on worst days or when sick with flu etc

    • @spacedoutagain
      @spacedoutagain 19 дней назад +1

Never tell them you have good or bad days, you tell them
'On average I' need' assistance 5 days out of 7, or daily and it does not vary'
Otherwise you will get Zero points as you told them its once in a while.
Needing is diferent from actually getting, you Need some help. You may not be getting it, but you NEED it.

Is there no point if you only have 9 points?

  • @spacedoutagain
    @spacedoutagain 19 дней назад

Wait hang on, the points are not added up that way in one subject, it works like this, if your higher point succeeds the lower point in the tick bar, thats the point you get. Not all of them added up.
    Its abit misleading otherwise.

Is it worth the dispondant and depressing state of mind that these psychopaths put you in just for such a pittance amount of money?! I mean, it really is pitiful?! And if you are expected to be independent ..then do a job where you don't have to pay tax into their system ?!
