    I've got Bipolar 1 and they awarded me 2 points at the appeal tribunal. I even had legal representation from the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund (I was in the RAF for 6 years). They don't take seriously mental health at all. They think once you've got your meds, you're cured. Sorry to be a bit negative, but that's my experience...

    • @Steven-gl4cw
      @Steven-gl4cw 11 месяцев назад

      They never had taken mental health seriously. It was always " can you lift a box". If a illness can't be seen and its diagnosed then firstly that person needs to get a diagnosis to even be heard. Everyone will be fucked under the new system accept for psychotic disorders or people with extensive years of solid evidence. You have to expect to have to go to a tribunal. They are simply saying no no no to save money. Good luck you will need it.

    When I applied for pip, I made sure I had evidence and support .from the get go (it is so essential to have someone there backing you, support worker or your parents/siblings) in terms evidence (make sure...if you have ASD a written document and other historical documents mentioning your long term condition) I have ASD, anxiety and depression. I went through it and expected the whole process to be hell (sigh), turns out it went alright for me, the nurse that assessed me was amazing, she was patient and understanding, I'm guessing she wrote a good report on me based on my strong foundation of evidence and backing from my Dr and family and support I used to receive when I was in school way back (I'm 29M) and yes I kept that school document with me for decades (I never knew it would help me so much).
    In the end DWP sent me a message saying I've been rewarded pip and shall be sent a letter in 2 weeks.

      Believe me when I tell you that all of that evidence goes Otomi th window when they decide to reassess your claim. I have a physical disability and will never get better, but the still tried to take it away from me! Took a tribunal 10 minutes to award it back to me though. It’s improving in Scotland where I will never have to go through a reassessment ever again.

    Pip told me, over the phone, that if nothing has changed I don't really need to do anything (or very little ) with my review form. I had no support with the form anyway. I made a scribbled mess of it (which is indicative of my state of mind) and sent it. Since then, my life has been hell because 1) they received my form in Aug 23 but told me it's still being reviewed. It's now Jan 24 and I've had five months of extra anxiety, followed by anger, round and round, due to the fear of this bloody pip system.
    2). Lots more bad stuff has happened due to my mental health since I returned the form (which they do not know about). One of these things is that I was removed from my gp surgery's list (thrown out) BECAUSE OF MY MENTAL HEALTH. The irony. I'm desperate and last october I got in touch with dignitas. Can't take anymore of this shit. Nobody seems to believe me and yet I get persecuted for my nental health all the time.

      Speaking from experience. Unless you have sufficient evidence with your claim, you don't stand a chance. PIP, is bloody hard to get. Can your brother get a letter from his Doctor to clarify his condition. I have multiple health conditions, including diagnosed depression, I was on DLA indefinite award for years, applied for PIP, and didn't get it. It went to appeal and I won. I was awarded it for 3 years, and have just filled in my Review Form. As Stuart has said, you need a lot of evidence. Good luck.

    • @StuartMcGoo
      @StuartMcGoo  2 года назад +6

      Hi Zafar, it is certainly helpful if you can gather together other evidence. Can your brother put together a daily diary of how his condition affects him? This often helps. Also a letter from someone who supports him, such as yourself, explaining how you have observed how his condition affects him and the support you give could also help. If he has stopped taking medication he should indicate the reason why he has stopped.

      Not being under a treatment plan dwith Secondary Care doesn't mean you don't have a treatment plan. If you are discharged from Secondary Care then you will be managed under Primary Care (your GP) so when it comes to providing evidence you should use medical records (which can be requested from GP) or a GP letter. PIP may contact your GP for information about you as well.

    AT the Newcastle upon Tyne St James Gate PIP assessment office they have a whiteboard in the canteen set out as a league table depicting the leading assessor for DECLINING claims. Some of the worst assessors who often lead the board are those who themselves have a disability their attitude is "If I can work, so can they" According to one assessor there, "We ARE encouraged to decline as many applications as possible EVEN those we can clearly see SHOULD get the award". "This is to see how many bother to pursue their claim further". "What GALLS me the most is that if you state you have a drink and or drug dependency you GET the FULL maximum award AUTOMATICALLY plus a SPECIAL payment to assist them with seeking treatment BUT there is NO follow up to see if this SPECIAL payment is in fact used for the purpose it is issued for" The comments ARE real actual quotes by an assessor

      Get yourself an addiction of Vice. Only has to be on paper, and if they require breathalyzer and/or urine tests, a quick drink beforehand will cover it.
      It’s a game, to which they a) made it and b) play to win. So play the game they’re playing or lose. I can’t believe I said that, as I have genuine issues, which I’m underpaid going by their standards, but I can’t go through all that again. I have a UC50 form to send, it’s not even fully done and we’ll past deadline. I don’t even know what it’s for, or how it affects me, but the original was done by a charity who helped me, and the jobcentre lost it, so I have to do it myself as the therapy I get can’t help, nor can my doctor.
      So I have no one, as I’m on a waiting list for farther, long term help. I am also on methadone, as the doctrine was ‘keep them on it forever, in 2014 when I first went on it. But since have turned to abstinence goal doctrine, which I tried, but struggled with my condition, so went back on, at a lower dose.
      I had a ‘relapse’ in 2014 with an old friend, who developed schizophrenia, and I had money from working with a few months off. So we went crazy. Before that, I went to rehab in 2006, and before that was the last time I had a real habit (using everyday), and I was in my 20’s. So I’ve not had an active addiction for nearly 20 years, yet all the help, especially therapy, is all drug/drink based.
      I need therapy for addiction and bereavement, and loss of my entire business and life. If I didn’t even take a drink, nevermind drugs, during all that, maybe that’s not the core problem. Not leaving the house and my life slipping away in a sea of despair, I think that’s more the issue. But some want me to go to rehab (at 10’s of thousands of pounds) for up to 6 months, then (again, tens, like, 30-40k per year) 2 years in halfway house.
      They just label you, and put you in a box, and no amount of evidence can dissuade them from their opinion. My GP is the only one who ‘gets it’, and my benefit agent is ok, but that’s only cos the fit notes keep rolling in. Wonder what she’ll be like if they stopped. Gotta get to rehab to keep the fit notes coming back in, cos even though there’s help for major depression, you’ve been put in the ‘addict/alcohol’ box, so that’s not for you.
      No wonder the success rate is so poor, as there must be so many receiving the wrong treatments, like me. I can’t be the only one. I’m sick of AA meetings, and talking about how drugs affect my life, cos they don’t, really, not the worst thing affecting me, and hasn’t since 2006 f f s.
      So frustrating, I’m in complete despair, on top of being obviously mentally ill. I just want some help, that when I payed mu taxes and NI, was promised. Nothing more, nothing less.
      Ps I may be bipolar as I get times like this when I have energy, but they’re fleeting, and unpredictable, lasting hours to a few days, at most, rarely. My grandmother was ‘manic depressive’, the old term for bipolar, so that increases the chance, as I take after my mother more, temperamentally- neurotic, agreeable, introvert. We differ on the other traits, however, in the OCEAN model, the most widely used and accepted personality trait model. I’m highly open, average conscientiousness, she’s the opposite.

  • @Really-hx7rl

    Whatever they tell you anyway they are not medically trained most of them and if they are, you can be sure that they are not experienced in the condition you may have. It's like asking a Football ref to ref a Rugby Game.
    They aren't interested in medical evidence only how easy it is to manipulate you into saying what they want you to say.
    Believe me they are good at it! However if you say to them that you are recording the assessment it puts them on the back foot as they know then they are not going to be able to lead you into what they want you to say and they try everything with you to persuade you not to make the recording. Stick to your guns though and be firm about recording it as it is your right to do so . Answer yes or no and never follow with a a...."BUT".
    They arent interested in "BUT" and just ignore them and anything said after! Remember in the world of the DWP the world is just BLACK and WHITE with no shades of gray!

Whilst you may not wish to access NHS services and feel embarrassed of your condition it might be worth considering contacting an organisation like MIND local to you that would be able to offer support and guidance both with your application and with support you may require in future. There is nothing to be ashamed of in asking for help, in fact just by leaving this comment you have shown that you have strength and want to get support to deal with this so I would encourage you to reach out. Rizla, I wholeheartedly agree with everything Stu says. You are not helping yourself by not seeking help - think of it as just speaking with someone who has experience of mental health issues - there are many different types out there and they affect everyone differently. Even if you don’t get PIP you might actually get the help you need to get out and about. By the way I’m speaking from experience as I knew I had a problem but didn’t know why nor what it was for over ten years. I refused to seek help and was considering suicide on a daily basis all those years until one day I’d had enough and decided to bite the bullet. It was difficult but I held it together and eventually made the appointment for someone to come to my house to talk to me. From there the correct help was given and I now better understand what was happening in my head. I have since applied and been awarded PIP but without the various expert diagnoses etc on paper, which I submitted as evidence, I doubt my application would have been successful. I hope you find this useful and I wish you all the best. May I suggest you have a look at the website Benefits and Work and I would recommend becoming a member so you get the info needed to correctly complete the Application Form. Take a few months at least to read over and fully understand the criteria of the form and how to respond to each question.

    If you refused to take ssri 'medications', due to not wanting the zombie deal,weren't able to access mental health facilities due to 2 to 3 year waiting lists and have a degenerative spinal disc issue say with chronic pain ever present leading to suicidal ideation how would PIP factor this conundrum into the mix I'm wondering ? This is my personal situation and l can't even get 'limited-capability for work' status.I tried with PIP but realised they were catering for seriously compromised folks but i got the same,phone assessment,sureal daleky conversation with a DWP operative as with PIP and a rejection at the end.No luck with the (telephone) DWP tribunal.How does starving for a couple of weeks a month aid in trying to strengthen a person back into the workplace l wonder ?
    Standard UC is clearly designed to starve a claimant back to work because they deem there's always some type of work you can do and you're clearly able to....lift hands above the head and dress yourself so crack on seems their MO.

I am not under the psychiatrist anymore ,, i dont have appointments with him anymore but i do have my diagnoses and am still on high levels of medication. I am just worried if i will still be eligible for pip because i am no longer seeing the psychiatrist though his last care plan for me was to up my dosage on the sertraline and advised i do cbt . I didnt do the cbt becasue i have had issues with that before. So i am not in any primary care atm which is worrying for my pip claim. My family help me all the time and that is the help i receive. How am i going to word all of this in the review papers.I still am very unwell alot of the time . Any advice ?? Thanks

    • @StuartMcGoo
      @StuartMcGoo  2 года назад

      In most circumstances, they should give you a copy of your personal information free of charge.
      However, an organisation can charge a reasonable fee to cover their administrative costs - if they think your request is ‘manifestly unfounded or excessive’.
      They can also charge a fee if you ask for further copies of your information following a request.
      If an organisation can charge a fee, the one-month time limit does not begin until they have received the fee.
      The above was taken from the ICO website - they cannot charge a fee for a reasonable subject access request. You can dispute a fee you feel does not meet the criteria with the organisation firstly and then the ICO if not satisifed.

      Hi, if you are filling in a review form I would go in to more detail where you can and get support with filling in the form as it may be that you weren't awarded points you should have been on your first application. If you are sent a review form it is usual for there to be a 6 month period to get the form completed and most services that would support you with this local to you will not have waiting lists that long so you will have plenty of time. Use a copy of your previous form to guide you (or the person supporting you). If you do not have a copy you can request a copy be sent to you by calling the helpline number at the top of your PIP award letter.

      I'm sorry to hear you have been kept waiting for so long. It is difficult for me to say what your chances are based on your medical conditions only. It will very much depend on what is written in the form and your telephone/face-to-face assessment, and even then many people are turned down when they are eligible. If that turns out to be the case and you feel you should have been awarded the benefit you must request Mandatory Reconsideration and then appeal if necessary. @StuartMcGoo  2 года назад

      The time scales are set so that people should get a decision within 3 months of their application. This does not include time for Mandatory Reconsideration or Appeals (appeal dates are set by the Tribunals service and are defined by how many people are lined up for an appeal at any given time, which as rule is a lot). Currently the DWP are reporting longer waiting times due to "high demand" so generally speaking people are not getting a decision within 3 months unless it is a very simple case, often it runs up to 6 months now.
