  • Electronic Counter Measures have been the bane of my runs recently. Here's a funny moment when we started our first Helldivers 2 mission for the night. Enjoy!

This was exactly my experience playing with the stratagem scrambler effect for the first time

It becomes painful when you are in the middle of an intense fight

Its a modifier called electronic countermeasures, it randomizes the stratagems that you call in which is pretty frustrating

I know that feeling, i called a gas-orbital, a minefield AND blew up the turret i called in accidentally all because i quick-played and there's NO ON SCREEN WARNING that any ECM is running after you land.
Glad the devs took that mutator out "for now".
Especially for a game where after making it so the spawns were overlapping and heavy units were spawning in 2-6 at a time every 5-15 seconds and some fo the devs stating "you are meant to use your stratergies to take on tougher foes".
there's like 5 different ways they actively make those non-weapon (and weapons to a lesser extent) feel utterly HORRIBLE to have to rely on. the currently removed ECM/scrambler (random strat when you try and summon something), a flat -1 strat (3 total), DOUBLE call-in timers (that even affects the pelican so it's WAY worse than you think it would be), +50% cooldown timers, "scattering" so your "precision" hits miss and your AoEs have a solid chance of missing and slamming down within instakill range of you or anyone ~30m within the expected zone and at higher difficulties 2 of those can be active SIMULTNEOUSLY.

Honestly you kinda get used to it. AA defenses is the most annoying in my opinion since it severely restricts your options, but the other ones aren't generally that bad. Increased scatter only affects about a third of the attack stratagems and nothing else, so bring precision ordnance (railcannon strike, laser, etc) and focus on more support weapons or turrets.
Increased cooldown is generally most noticable on support weapons, so it actually works best to rely on Eagle stratagems (since their cooldown is very low) and only a few supports if it's a serious issue and you're worried you'll lose your equipment (and even then calling in support weapons is rare outside of dying and not being able to get your stuff back).
Increased call-in time is annoying at first, but that's why laser and railcannon are again great for this because they're practically instant anyway. More turrets and fortifications are great too, if you can call them in early enough they will provide constant pressure rather than potentially missing their target (remember: the autocannon sentry has significantly higher pen and damage than the handheld one). The hardest part is the Pelican extract, and that definitely can be a problem, but in my opinion if you're already able to hold the line sufficiently at high difficulties for 2 minutes, then holding an extra 2 minutes isn't that much of a leap. Just remember you can move around, you don't need to sit in one spot the whole time.
If you're dealing with multiple of these threats then yeah, that can get very challenging, but honestly you just need to practice more when being restricted in your stratagems. It's a war, and the devs have pretty clearly stated they have little want to make it any easier for us. It's hard, and you're never guaranteed to win no matter how good your strats are or how effective your counterplay is (I still die on missions at even low difficulties, it's just a fact of the game, you're going to die)

i think the stratagem sccambler is a lazy way to make it hard. when i first did it i sat there trying 12 times in a row trying to get my pack. n that game i was pretty unlucky mostly getting it after 4-7 tries. i think it should give you it after 3rd try or just come up with a new better one to replace it
