  • This is a video of the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet aim9 sidewinder tutorial and how to preform a stealth kill using the sidewinder.
    also when I say the flares are aluminum that is incorrect I was thinking about the chaffs. the flares are magnesium. hence the burning white fire from flares.

    One thing I forgot to mention guys, you don't HAVE to uncage to fire the sidewinder or get it to track. as long as you have the growl tone that means shes got the target you can just fire her off. I would just uncage for a more reliable track/lock. sometimes if you don't uncage, you fire the missile and you lose the track at that exact second because the target came out of the bore for a second before you fired. so uncage to free the missiles seeker head to track the target for you and this way you will achieve a more reliable launch/Higher Probability of kill.

    2:49 One correction here. Missile approach warning systems are pretty common and can detect IR guided missile launches. Look up AN/AAR-57 and AN/AAR-54 for some example of missile warning systems.

    Great video dude. One thing though: do you think that you'll be upgrading that mic soon? The quality of your content is great, so adding a nice microphone in there would be like the icing on the cake. Thanks and cheers!

      thanks buddy, I got a mic, I can try using it and seeing if it helps, my plan for the channel is to upgrade everything down the road, from the computer itself right up to the mic and the editing software, its just a matter of money. but yes I will try using the mic for the next video and see if it helps the quality at all. thanks for ur post man.

    This is so much more deadly now with the AIM 9x's, HMD and now datalink :D still gotta turn the radar off but if someone else has him painted you still get the SA display. muahahaha.

    Can radar lock helps you lock late variants of aim9? I mean for example when is bandit towards you in a dogfight and aim9s woud be better choice than aim120 or aim7? I think i saw it in some dcs vid… Thanks for the answer sir

  • @Transit21
    @Transit21 6 лет назад +1

    That was very cool. Are the MiG 21 and the F-5E more difficult to detect by more sophisticated aircraft because of their more primitive radar in them? I've watched a lot of videos on both aircraft just slaughtering more modern planes that seemingly are unaware of their presence.

    • @GrowlingSidewinder
      @GrowlingSidewinder  6 лет назад +7

      none none more than likely just poor pilots. Also if they turn off thier radar they can sneak up on you. But their radar isn't the thing ur detecting. Ur picking up radar bounces off the skin or profile of thier aircraft when ur radar beam hits them and it comes back to you. So theoretically the smaller the profile of the plane the harder it would be to detect. But modern radar is so sophisticated that it'll detect even the most miniscule positive spikes. So no the mig21 and f5 don't have any kind of advantage in relation to being more primitive.

    Sorry but your data on countermeasures is wrong. Flares are not made of aluminum. Thant's chaff and is used for radar guided missiles. Flares are made of magnesium. magnesium burns hotter than jet exhaust. Not trying to show you up. You're a damn good pilot. Just pointing out something that you're wrong about.

      ya dude ur 100% right, what i said about the composition was incorrect someone else pointed that out in the early days I posted the video i believe. good catch tho, and thanks for correcting.

    Great tutos on your channel mate! Would you please make one on the amraam as I can't find any on the web please? I am not sure how to know exactly when the 120's radar starts to track on its own and what's the indication on the hud so I could know when I can stop tracking the target with my plane and break off to wether go defensive or track another bandit. Thx 😁

    • @GrowlingSidewinder
      @GrowlingSidewinder  5 лет назад +1

      hi man thanks so much, ok so the amraams will go active whenever they lose lock with the aircraft, the only issue is that their on board radar is obvs not as good as the planes, so if they lose connection with the aircraft from a long range, say 40miles, they will still try to guide to that target on their own with their active radar its just that the probability to kill is massively reduced. the amraam will automatically go pitbull around 11miles (IIRC) and you should TRY to maintain lock until that range from target. (the range to target is displayed on the bottom right of the hud, you should see something like R40miles or something like that and it will count down.

      @@GrowlingSidewinder great thank you! Do you know if they will update the 120's specs so it's more reliable like the real one? I guess there's a lot of unknown on this topic as it's sensible data which is probably not rendered public yet and not to be released soon... Also do you know if at some point Eagle dynamics will change missiles behaviour especially regarding Fox 3s as they should climb on their own and fall on their target not like they are behaving today? thx :)

    • @GrowlingSidewinder
      @GrowlingSidewinder  5 лет назад +1

      I'm not sure if they will ever "update" the aim120Cs cuz a lot of people feel like they're pretty strong missiles as is, I know the Russian side for some guidance upgrades for their R27ER and R77 missiles recently so maybe they are redoing some missiles, its possible the 120C will make that list in the future I dont know. the only thing I know regarding the fox3 thing is that when the f14 is released they are also releasing a newly modeled aim54 pheonix that will behave like the real aim54 did and will climb. so for the other fox3's I have no idea mate.

    I m not understanding yet. Most of plane has (i think) missles warming incoming, so if i shott an amraam or sidwinder, even for 6x clock of the enemy he could notice that i have launched the missle. Anyway an other think i can't understand, if i shot down the radar, i obviuously couldn't be detective by enemy esm radar passive influence acquisition, okay, but if i shot down my radar and enemy is using active radar, i will spotted anyway ( if i m not a stealth fighter). Are you flying on 6 of you enemy? So in that case his radar can't spott you, please let me know that things.

    Why don't you put the radar in STBY, when doing sneak attack?

    • @GrowlingSidewinder
      @GrowlingSidewinder  6 лет назад +3

      R. Invictus I don't believe the standby functionality works correctly yet due to early access. So I turn it off to be 100% sure right now.

  • @isaalghazi9131
    @isaalghazi9131 5 лет назад +1

    Quick question. Why go radar completely off? Why not just go to StandBy?. You're not transmitting in StandBy mode, so it seems a bit superfluous to go to OFF instead of StandBy. As far as I remember, being an Avionics tech..Radars require warmup and time-in processes in RL. It's nice that RCS makes them instant-on, but any Radar I've ever encountered had a time-in period while certain components came on line. Same for IFF or anything else that has a hi-powered RF section in the Ghz range. They use 'Tubes'..actually resonant cavities..to make the high frequencies, and they have to stabilize the voltages and frequencies before you can go to full "ON" mode of operation. It'd be a bit more realistic to not go to OFF, but only to StandBy in this scenario. I love watching your Vids, btw. Hope to get the gear and start flying in DCS soon.

    10:00 So the RWR warning only gives a beep when a missile is released towards the aircraft? So why didn't you leave the radar on until before you fire to continue to have awareness?
    And I also don understand why do you uncage? It still fires and hits its target without. I did not understand this part. Thanks

    • @dylanhemman6753
      @dylanhemman6753 4 года назад +3

      The RWR gives a warning when it detects radar pinging the aircraft, not when a missile is fired. He turns off the radar so the enemy doesn’t get that warning. Also, sidewinders are IR guided, so they don’t require radar to track the target, hence why the enemy doesn’t get an RWR warning when it’s fired.
